I am also on oxycontin, i have an extremely rare, extremely painful disease that has no real treatment available beyond controlling the pain. Ive had allergic reactions to many pain medications including morphine & tramadol from which i had seizures. Im only 44yrs & have had this for about 14yrs. Its taken a long time to get to a place where the pain is controlled enough for me to have a bit of a life. Ive been on a stable dose of oc for the last 3-4 yrs & doing well. They have now been replaced with the new op & i understand it still has the same dose of pain relief in it but it doesnt work as the previous formulation did. Im happy it cant be abused by the wrong people, but for me & by what ive seen from other posts im not the only person, its not fair. I lost my whole life when i became sick, everything i did, my work, my horses, even having intercourse without being in agony- all gone....i had that one thing that helped me do some volunteer work & go to the occasional outing but now thats gone too. Im back to no sleep, way to much pain to be able to move, little knowing anything else. Whats the point of this....to save junkies from using one drug..they will just go back to whatever they took before. You have achieved nothing more than hurting the ppl the medication was made to help in the first case.

The release formula detailed in Purdue's info is, in fact, the blood levels over 24 hours which are reached TAKING ONE TAB EVERY 12 HOURS....

Well what you wrote was reassuring. But Purdues webpage explained that the release mechanism on the new formula released over a 24 hour period rather than the orginal 12 hours making it dosing at less per hour. I know how worried I was with everyone complaining that the new formula took hours to kick in. I was relieved when at same dose it helped relieve my pain in the same time it did with old formula.

Guest - What I write IS true. I've read the literature, which includes blood level studies conducted by independent labs, not by Purdue. The OP formula and the OC formula both release oxycodone in the same amounts and over the same time intervals. I know all about binders and fillers; had an awful time recently with a generic version of Klonopin that simply didn't work. However, when I read the independent lab studies I saw that OP and OC are the same. And, I take OxyContin via rx myself There's no difference at all - except that friends no longer ask me if they can have some....

Sub..how I wish what you wrote was true. But even Purdue stated that the old formula released 18% to 23% of ones dose. I can not remember the % of ones dose Purdue stated the new formula released but I DO REMEMBER it was stated that the release was much much lower than the old formula. Also the new fillers are such that their release is absolutely dependant on the health of ones digestive system. Your going to think what you will as I am finding americans don't care for truth these days. They are far more comfortable with lies and deceptions.

No matter what is said in the course of this thread, the FDA mandated that Purdue PROVE via lab tests that OP formulation reached blood levels and was released at the same rate as OC formulation. The real deal is that what most people dislike is that you can't abuse an OP.

I know this is an old post I'm responding to, but the new OxyContin is made differently than when it was first put on the market.
It too was time released, but now with this new ingredient it DOES NOT DISOLVE like it first did.
These people know what they r talking about. You don't.
But thank for trying to help.

Yea them being 80s U would think U could feel the affects or at least take care of pain. I can't feel any benifits I can't even. Tell I've taking anything Some times I may take a double cause I messed up. U know what still no affects someone going to die from trying to get relief. Do they really care? Not. The DEA needs a legal suit against them, who the f*** they think they R they need to stay out of Doctor/ patient relations there not f***ing Doctors. And the pharmist needs to do there job & fill the scripts They think there Gods of drugs or something we all need to pull together & sue the Bastards & get our right back & be treated like human beings. They treat us like a piece of shot let me know if. I. Got brothers. Out there who have the same beliefs. Man I hope so Big Ben out !!

spyz.. I think what is happening is your digestive system is metabolizing the op's too quickly.
Thanks to the new formula(I am being sarcastic) the op's will work ONLY if your digestive system
digest them properly..otherwise they go right through ones body intact.

I just got put on these pills and my pain management doctor started flipping out because i had no metabolites in my urine. I told her i took my last one 2 days ago and she said i should be discharged because i have no metabolites in my urine. Now i so presoak them in ginger ale just long enough to start the swelling of the gooey polymer. I then cutit off with my teeth and put the remaining pill u der my tongue like a suboxone. It gets absorbed slow.y into my bloodstream, there is no stomache upset or flatulence and there is pain relief. Since I took it orally i am still obeying prescribing directions. Am i filling my lungs or arteries with that goo and is that why i dont jave metabolites in my jrine?

After being cut off the original Oxycontin through the Canadian Government for a year, the first Oxycontin 40mg I took, I knew it wasn't even remotely close to the old formula. These new one's don't last near as long, nor do they help with the pain as well as the original Oxycontin 40mg back in 2011 (I think that was the date our government put an end to them) and came out with oxyneo. Neither one works for pain as good as the original ones.

Yes there is no outter shell there same coating as the original.. The best bet for everyone is to get a time release and a lot of oxycodone 30 g still won't stack up to the old oc nothing stacks up to them.. dilodid is another option but I've herd people say they don't get relief from them niether..

There will not be any generic versions of OxyContin that are similar to the original "OC" formulation - The FDA has re-classified the original OxyContin OC and considers that it was discontinued by Purdue for "safety reasons". The FDA has stated it will reject any generic versions of OxyContin that are easily abused. The have to have some deterrent to keep them from being abused. So far, only Purdue has come up with an abuse-proof version of time-released oxycodone - and the technology of their formulation that prevents this is patented. So, likely a long wait for any kind of generic version of OxyContin, and when/if one does hit the market, it won't be like OxyContin OC.

You are so very right. It is not H and I wish they would stop making that comparison in all the tv news shows and documentaries. Its been a while since your post and I still hear them saying this. It is an opiate derivative like many others and that is its only similarity to H. I am sick of making sacrifices because someone else lacks self control or breaks the law. Its like gun laws.....the laws usually only hurt the legitimate end user not the criminal. They have already figured out how to defeat this new formula before it was the predominant product on the market. And while reading about the guy whose sister was addicted.....I can only say that she had to use it illegally in order to have the problem she did so making the new formula is not going to prevent new addicts. I also saw a show where the opium producers in the middle east have close to a 3 year stockpile. Even if we stomped out every poppy field it would take 3 years to eliminate opium from being supplied. And that doesn't include the legally grown poppy fields that are used for medical production.

I feel for you. I have been taking the new formula for 2 years and have suffered badly from GI issues. I had a colonscophy and endoscopy done recently and have learned my small bowel and esphagas are damaged. I can often feel each and every oxycontin make their way down my entire digestive system. It feels like a very hot heat..not a burning so much as a hot scalding. That can not be good for anyone!

Purdue has done something to the OP formula recently; I can tell. The side effects that I am getting from my last 2 OP scripts are about 10 times worse than they already were, & they were pretty bad to begin with. I have been suffering from the switch from OC to OP since the beginning.... inadequate pain relief, terrible GI symptoms, & overwhelming fatigue. Now however, all the symptoms I just mentioned are much worse plus, I am now experiencing terrible withdrawal symptoms with my usual dose, a side effect that I never had before. My doc refuses to change scripts, & I don't know what to do. He knows I have legitimate reasons for pain meds & I'm not an abuser, but that's just how he is. He treats all his patients the same, across the board & never makes pain med changes. I live in a rural area, with no other nearby docs, so that's not an option either. I had a life with the OC Oxycontin. I went back to work & was doing extremely well. I am now completely incapacitated again because of the switch to OPs, that don't compare at all to the effectiveness of the OCs. I can't work & can barely get up from bed. One day, I found a single OC tab that had been misplaced in my med cabinet; it must have fallen behind other items some time ago. That day I used the OC instead of the OP, and I had the best day (health wise), than I've had in yrs. When I woke up the next morning, I cried brokenheartedly, when I realized I would never have a day like the day before again. It is horrific to know that Purdue cares more about drug abusers, then people who greatly benefited from the OC formula. Purdue gave pain patients a medication that gave them back a quality of life, only to snatch it away because of drug abusers. Drug abusers should NEVER be a reason to take quality of life away from legitimate pain patients. And, I do not know what Purdue has done to the OPs recently. It is VERY obvious to me that they did someting AGAIN. Has anyone else noticed a HUGE difference in the already useless OPs recently? I didn't think the OPs could get any worse than they already are, but it appears that they have. So, have others noticed too?

I read the thing about the FDA wanting all pains meds to be tamper resistant now (In response to Purdue's original patent expiring and another company wanting to make a generic).
However Purdue and Actavis(joining with Watson) made an agreement that they could make a generic oxycontin. The generic may be available as soon as January 1st,2014. I think the FDA still needs to approve it.
I sure hope that the generic will be more like the original Oxycontin.
I’ve been in so much pain since Purdue created the OP. I’ve been in a quandary about talking with my doctor and changing meds…because Oxycontin had worked so well for me since 1996. I’;ll probably try to stick it out and try to wait for the generic…i pray it will actually be released-and work!
I really don’t think it could be coincidence that so many pain patients would say that the OP doesn’t work, plus makes their stomach hurt if it wash;’t true. It certainly is true for me.
