Will Oxycontin Be Changed Back To Original Formula (Page 18)

is Oxycontin going back to their old formula? OC instead of OP.
Ok, I have taken what you said about living each day the best you can Michelle. It's great advice that has been given to me before and is so true, so thanks. I've had to quit my job as well and I miss it a lot. I am not a naive person either, and am certainly no delicate wall flower that's for sure. In my profession I've been spat on, kicked, punched and been called pretty much every bad name that exits, and its all been due to some form of drug abuse. Its the Jekyll and Hyde syndrome. I have nothing against this medication, but I do think it should be reserved for severe cases only. The only reason people are able to abuse it is because somewhere somehow somebody has lied to their doctor or whoever to be able to get it in the first place. It's got to start somewhere. I hope you understand where I'm coming from. It's actually nice to be able to converse with someone who is a legit user and able to offer explanations that are real first hand experiences. All I know is that this brain tumour has rocked my world and not in the good way. (Gotta keep some form of mild humour) My colleagues who I have known forever have still been offering great support and palliative care team are wonderful, however, sometimes I still feel very isolated. Like I have already said, it's been an eye opener to have been on this forum and I sincerely wish you all the best as you have with me.
Really Dox.....I thought you were giving valuable information, not here to have a go at people. This forum is here to help anyone who needs it, for information, to converse with others in same position or to vent. It doesn't matter if your a patient or a carer, hopefully it helps those who need it. I know you have information that there wont be a generic, but I believe John D has information, from those who are responsible for medication registration & the PBS, we will see what happens in Dec. There's no reason to get nasty because someone disagrees with you, this should be a place where we help each other not tell people to suck it up when they are looking to help their loved ones. Katherine, don't feel sorry for me don't need anyones pity, everyone has problems to overcome. If theres one thing I've learnt from being sick, its to take the joy from what you have & don't dwell on what you don't. I cant train horses anymore or work full time, but I work when i can & i volunteer with my dog helping sick/disabled kids. If i wasn't sick i never would have done that & it gives me so much in return. I hope everyone is able to push themselves each day, & find the things that make them happy.
Dox. sounds to me like you don't have much time for anyone who doesn't take some form of narcotic. Every post on this site is in some form of a whine. The only difference about my whinging is that it has come from a different angle to yours and everyone else's. So suck it up Dox!
Suck it up you don't know much about narcotic opioid medication don't matter howuch they up the dose he will get used to it and tolerate it and won't be like a zombie change the medication for your husband and stop whinging in here and Targin for the life of me I don't know why they would put a cancer patient on that it is oxycodone/naloxone and naloxone is a full opioid antagonist it is used to ring people out of overdoses and was designed mainly for people that were thought of as drug seekers and people under the age of 25 Targin will not help pain and has only been trialed on smaller doses it will put someone who is on high doses of OxyCodone or any other opiate into withdrawals when the pill kicks in so just swap the medication to a better and tolerable one as the old OxyContin slow release is not going to be released in generic form I have spoken with apotex sandoz alphapharm aspen and none of them are coming out with generic OxyContin slow release formula good luck with your pain people! My pain is under control now brilliant pain medication I have swapped long acting again still taking 20mg oxynorm 2 to 3 times a day for breakthrough pain but everything is perfect now and the new long acting tablets I'm on none of you have mentioned on here all I can say is goodluck people #feeling great my new long acting medication is better than OxyContin ever was and is way better than MS Contin
Hey Katherine, I know what your talking about, with your loved ones having pain relief for palliative care. The difference in that & chronic pain is vast, as for palliative purposes the dose is increased over a short period of time & the effects are very strong. When these types of drugs are taken for chronic pain the dosage increase is slight & your body is used to the medication. I was diagnosed 16yrs ago & im 46 now. If you met me you wouldnt have any idea i take oxycontin, i dont feel any effects such as drowsiness & dont know what it feels like to be high. The only effect i have is it dulls the pain, which is a big part of why i find it the best option for me, besides being allergic to most other pain medications. I havnt had an increase in dose for about 4yrs & i only increase it when i really have to & my pain specialist thinks i need to. I dont like having to rely on medication of any kind, & i tried everything possible before i gave in to my doctors advise to go onto a narcotic pain reliever, I would hardly ever take a panadol before this. When you are faced with excruciating pain at 30yrs old & no way of fixing it, you have to make a major decision of how to treat it. I love life & do everything i can to live it to the fullest, but after years of no diagnoses, multiple surgeries trying to diagnose it, a hysterectomy which left me unable to have more kids (i have a daughter), being told i have infections & given antibiotics i didnt need & waking up(if i got to sleep) with pain increasing everyday & no end in sight, I was at the point i considered ending it all. That was where i got to before i decided to take it, im grateful theres these types of medications, because i wouldnt have been able to cope with the pain & im able to have a bit of a life because of them. Before i got sick i trained & rode racehorses, ive had heaps of bad injuries from falls & kicks & have a high pain tolerence which i never had more than a panadeine forte for but the type of pain i have now is a whole other beast so i really had no choice but the pain meds. I hope this helps you to understand the difference between palliative & chronic pain treatment & use of oxycontin & the way it effects people. Best wishes to you & your family Katherine i hope things get better for you.
Michelle, thanks for a reply. I made a mistake with his dosage. My husband is on 40mg twice daily and has just been given Oxynorm 10 mg today whenever he needs to take it through out the day or night. (He started on 20mg of Targin but as mentioned, it wasn't tolerated well.) A couple of words in my post were not what I wrote as well. When I was referring to the junkies you mentioned I actually said they need to be "weeded out" I never said they needed to be "done away with" that's just cruel. No person should be "done away with" I guess my main problem with these meds and there uses are the long term use and tolerance build up which has been explained by our palliative care nurse. Eventually he will be on so much and such a high dose he'll be non functioning from the drug dose not the tumour!! I just can't believe some people have been on this crap for 10yrs and more. How do you function properly? I'm only going on what I have witnessed in the past with family members and my husband having to take this stuff, and surely you have witnessed it with your friends breast cancer. From everything I've seen they are not themselves when taking it. I know how they were before they had to take it and I just saw there personality disappear when they started to take it. I was asking "where did they go?" It was explained to me by my mum in my uncles case it was the medication, but the palliative care doc has explained to me in my husbands case it could be a bit of both the drugs and having a brain that is not firing properly. All I know is that I am to young for this shyte. (I would HOPE 42 is to young!) Anyways, thanks for your words of kindness, I'm dealing with way to much and way to many feelings at this stage. I'm glad I stumbled on this forum, its been an eye opener that's for sure. Here's hoping one day they can come up with something that works as well as a narcotic, and still keep peoples minds and personalities stable. Goodbye and good luck.
Yes it does sck terribly that they are not bringing the old formula back I can feel the difference in my stomach and all the side effects the OxyContin reformulated op tablets were causing me have gone since swapping to morphine aka MS Contin take it the same as i did the OxyContin 2 times a day I'm about to have 30 to 40 mg of oxycodone instant release 20mg of oxynorm and 2 to 4 endone now for some breakthrough pain I am so happy they haven't stuffed with the formulas on the instant release oxycodone tablets I have spoken to a few generic pharmaceutical manufactures apotex sandoz ect and they will not be making any of the old version OxyContin slow release I can not find any evidence at all supporting the guy who is saying thy are coming back they simply are not I wish they were as I would swap back to them from MS Contin only If the formula was the same as they were in the beginning and that's not going to happen
Katherine, Im so sorry your husband is terminal, its a terrible thing watching someone you love dying in front of you, & are unable to do anything to stop it. I recently lost one of my closest friends to an aggressive breast cancer & I miss her a lot. Your right about not being able to know what someone is going through unless you've been in that situation. Ive been educating myself about the new oxy formula, & one doctor I found talking about it in the US, believes it affects those on long term high dosage the most. With opioid medication your tolerance builds up over time, & the dosage has to increase now & again, to give adequate pain relief. He found that in some people the tablet doesn't metabolise completely & therefore the person doesn't get the complete dosage. The other big problem found, is people developing stomach problems, I for one don't need anymore health issues to deal with so Im concerned about that. So with what this doctor researched I think its not noticeable to those with a lower tolerance, even though though may not get the complete dose they are getting enough to keep the pain in check. I hate having to take these meds but if I don't I have no quality of life. I will eventually die from E.C. (the disease I have) its contained in my bladder for now, but once it starts to spread it will kill of my vital organs. I try to make everyday count, even the ones when I cant get out of bed because of the pain, as you know life is short & each day we're alive is a wonderful gift. Good luck to you Katherine, I know its hard on you, but try to focus on the incredible life, you & your husband have had together & remember him as he was when healthy & strong.
Michelle. That must have been horrific for you being stabbed for your months supply of Opiate meds. You must be a very strong person to have got through that on top of your debilitating condition (although don't know what that is) My husband has a brain tumour and was put on Targin, however this medication caused bowel trouble. He was then changed to Oxycontin and he is only taking 20mg twice day. He started on the old formulation and has now switched to new formula without any problems at all. (I guess he's just lucky) Anyway, he may not be on it for much longer unfortunately because the tumour has reccured and there is not much more they can do for him. And this is where I start getting confused, a terminal patient is never denied pain medication and it always seems to work for them (I have lost 3 uncles to different types of cancer) but people with cronic non life threatening conditions that require opiate pain meds have so much trouble with them. I hope I never have to see another person on this evil medication. I was feeling sorry for myself, but after reading your posts, I feel sorry for you. But hey, if something works then you should not be denied it nor should you knock it back. Do whatever you can to keep yourself sane and most of all "pain free" as for the junkies you were talking about, they need to be done away with because a lot of people can obviously fake being in a great deal of pain. I can't even begin to imagine what your going through with your condition as well as getting your pain meds right, as you couldn't begin to imagine what I'm seeing with a terminally ill husband on pain meds. Very sad.
thanx John D that helps me a lot! I was going to have my dosage increased when I next got my script, my doctor has had a permit for me for 3 months but I didnt want to use it if I could get through without it. After info that a generic wouldnt happen I saw no choice but now i will keep at my current dose till dec & hope once on the previous formula will be fine again. Its not easy, im really having a tough time of it but can see light at the end of the tunnel now. In looking for info I came across a site where junkies were discussing exactly how to abuse the new formula, absolutely disgusting & to be honest you would have to be so stupid to do what they were talking about, & as I read it I found they were finding the info on how to tamper with it from the manufactures site!!!! They have the results of what happens when various methods are used etc........ why would they do that???? Ive learnt a great deal about corporate greed throughout this, & find the disregard for the people who are hurt by all this sickening. I really hope Purdue & Mundipharma lose a great deal of money once the generic is in stores. I hope we are all able to get the pain relief needed soon & to anyone on here that is abusing oxycontin I really hope you get the help you need, these are horrible medications, that those who genuinely need them hate having to take usually. Life is a wonderful gift, dont waste it taking drugs that ruin so many of the good things in it. If you take drugs to forget bad things that have happened, there are better ways of dealing with your problems. If you have no physical illness or injury your very lucky, make the most of it because one day you might not have the option
Michelle you will see Generics come December. It is a bit longer than we all wanted however PBS could not do their thing in the short amount of time they had (July 23rd - August 1st). Also there was a slight supply issue. I know Dox is saying otherwise and sounds like it is from info presented to him via local pharmacy/doctor.
All I can tell you is I have spent a lot of time looking into this matter, speaking with each pharmaceutical company (that is registered), The suppliers that are the in between of the pharmacies and the Pharma companies. Also e-mails back and forth with the media outlets that have reported on the generic approval. Had phone conversations with PBS and TGA. Lastly a letter to and from the assistant minister of health Fiona Nash.
From all that the conclusion is right this very second there is a green light for December having a generic form of Oxycodone slow release. (Not reformulated).
Michelle you are not alone. This new product ("Tamper resistant") is criminal. It is worst for your body and not as effective. Junkies are still using these intravenously and from what I understand, now prefer them as they are cheaper on the street. 5 Months down 3 to go :P Best wishes.
Thanx Dox, Im not going into details about doses & that on here but Im on a very high dose. I have an extremely rare disease which has no cure & beyond pain relief no real treatment. I was diagnosed 16yrs ago & have been on OC for around 13yrs. I refused to take narcotic pain relief for a long time, I tried everything possible, nerve blocks, internal acupuncture, all sorts of natrapath treatments etc. I eventually had to give in to my doctors advice & take the meds. I cant take Tramadol, Morphine, MS Contin & others because of allergic reactions (seizures, anaphalactic shock, hives) My pain spec who I saw last week, has given me a permit to up my dose (I really dont want to) or admit me into hospital & try changing to fentaynol (Im not doing that!) Targin is no good because the trials were all done on lower doses & wouldnt be able to equal my current dosage. Ive had ketamin treatments to give me a 'holiday' as my specislist says from the pain, but I cant stand the hallucinations (I have them when awake, not just the wacky dreams) My GP is an addictions specialist who treats thousands of people addicted to allanner of drugs & alchohol, so Im in very good hands with a doctor who is an expert on narcotic medications. Ive also had him as a doctor since I was about 11, when he was just out of med school so with all that & his knowledge of my disease Im lucky in that respect. Oxycontin is really the best choice for me as it works & I dont have an allergy to it, I just need it to work the way it was before. I had been stable on my current dose for about 4yrs & not even taking break through meds, now Im up & down like a yo yo with the pain & its ruling my life once again. I loved that the med was tamper proof, I had someone watch me get my prescription & follow me. I had my daughter with me, this was years ago, & he pulled a knife, stabbed me & stole a months supply of my medication. Im all for anything that will prevent that sort of thing, but not at the expense of the medication working properly. Anyway ive garbled on enough, time to suck it up & get on with it. Ill have to accept the increase of dose & hope that works cause i dont have another option, I just hope there isnt sny damage to my stomache or bowell etc. i had a bowell onstruction last year & dont want to go through that again. I read posts on another conversation here of people in the US & there are many with stomach damage & many bringing legal suits against Purdue, the company is well aware of the problems its causing but that hasnt changed anything. Good luck people.
To BL: Chronic pain won't kill you? On the old formula I went to work every day, and felt like a normal human being (no drug high going on there). Within a week of being on the new OP formula, I could no longer get out of bed, again. I was in bed 24/7 before the OC, out of bed and working with the OC, and returned to bed in constant pain with the OP. I have been in bed a few yrs now. Chronic pain has destroyed my whole body; I am in kidney failure now & waiting to die. Again, chronic pain won't kill you? WOW! (That's the dumbed down way of saying: "Boy are you stupid!"
There will be no old ones coming out in Australia at all only OxyContin reformulated is out and that is all that is going to be out they are not changing it back and also no generics either mundipharma/Purdue are the only ones with the patent face it the OxyContin are not coming back and we have moved onto better pain meds now since the junkie drug addict scum bags ruined the original OxyContin controlled release tablets so they made so called unabusable ones that don't control pain at all and are useless
My chem says there definitely coming out And some pharmacist are stocking already but they already ran out of the 500.000 boxes that were sent
Hi Michelle I have no problem helping you out at all trying to get you in track again I suffer with cronic severe pain In my back due to wedge fractures my discs have been ruptured and a lot of other things in my back are completely ruined after the operation I had after being hit by a car I'm lucky to be still able to walk I was doing really great on the old OxyContin with oc on win side if the tablet and the mg on the other eg oc 80 I was on 40mg of OxyContin daily and 2 x oxynorm instant release oxycodone capsules being the same active ingredient as OxyContin for breakthrough/rescue pain relief I was on 120mg all up and it was greatly controlling my pain then without any warning I went to get my monthly script filled and the packaging was different and the blister packs inside looks weird they were OxyContin reformulated I took the first one and it did not do anything for my pain a panadiene forte is what it felt like I had taken an they are weak the little relief it did provide kicked in hours later and then left quickly also I started to feel really horrible bad anxiety dizziness ect they are horrible also they started keeping me awake for ages at night I couldn't relax because I was at 9 pain level the new ones suck I told My dr and pain mgmt drs and thy just kept increasing the dose of OxyContin I told them I didn't want that at all! It's the junkies fault who cares if those junkies abuse them and die good ridens to them they are just ruining the medications that work great for people but since changing to 100mg MS Contin morphine 2x a day and still take 2x 20mg oxynorm a day i am getting perfect pain relief! So why can you not take morphine Michelle ? I can also give you some names and info about some other alternatives of different opiates in the same class as oxy and morphine so you can finally change to something else and get pain relief I know opiate very well I am a legitimate user and never ever abuse my pills at all hope to hear back from you soon Michelle
Doc, thanx for the info, it sux a whole lot though. Im sick if being the one who suffers because of greed (pharmaceutical companies & junkies) neither give a damn about the patients who are affected. Of course Mundipharma pretend its all about the junkies abusing it, but its all about them having the patent & getting more money without any competition. The fact that the patients the medication is for are having problems with it, doesnt matter at all to them. I wish I could change to MS Contin but Im allergic to it. As for the carcigens added to the New Formula, terrific, we wouldnt want the poor junkies overdosing, never mind the patients the medication was designed for, who cares about them -woo hoo big win for Mundipharma & Purdue, laughing all the way to the bank. Im bawling like a baby for the first time in years, Im the most positive person you will ever get but I feel like Ive just been punched in the guts over & over again. Thank you for sending back to years ago, where my pain was so out of control, id spend most days double up on the couch unable to do anything. I refused to tale tjese medications for a long time, it took a lot of persuasion from my GP & Pain Specialist to try it. After different meds failing & seizures from Tramadol & other reactions from different meds, I tried Oxycontin, Ive been able to have a life since then. I cant do the things I loved before like riding & training horses but I can work part time & set up a charity. Im struggling with it now, not having the good days where my pain would be a 4-5 im lucky to get down to an 8. Thanx to those who provided information on this subject, I wish everyone the best of luck in the future.
There will be not be bringing the old OxyContin back we are stuck with the OxyContin op I have spoken to my dr my pain specialist and my pharmacist I also have the exact drs version of the mims that thy use to prescribe in there office and the only OxyContin that's available now is the OxyContin op and there will not be brininging back the old ones at all and there will be no generic OxyContin by sandoz apotex or anyone Purdue has the patent and that is it the pill will continue to be ineffective on pain relief also they have added 2 carcinogens to the new OxyContin reformulated my drs and pain specialist have changed me from OxyContin to 100 mg of MS Contin 2 times a day 12 hours apart and 2 instant release 20mg oxynorm capsules that is oxycodone in them anyhow since the change my pain is greatly controlled and I can feel the difference between the old and new OxyContin as I compared it with the 40mg OxyContin old ones and new ones I have compared the new ones to the old and they are useless junkies and druggos will always find away to abuse the medications ect they don't care what they put up there arms me I take these medications for chronic pain and I dislike the junkies who ruined a great pain medication by abusing and selling the stuff
John D. My chemist hasnt heard anymore, they will ask reps when they call in. I have the best team anyone could ask for between my GP, Pain Spec & Chemist, they will do anything to help me. {edited for privacy}. Will post here if i find anymore out. Cheers.
Thanks Michelle. Let me know what you find out. I have read the August report of PBS listings and 100% no new generic Oxycodones. The only real hope is if a brand is selling as a non pbs item. Would be expensive but as you know more effective. My pharmacist would not ask the question to the suppliers I don't think. Maybe yours will?
