Why Was I Taken Off Of Soma For My Pain?
UpdatedI've decided at my next Dr. appt to ask for my Soma back. I have a certain bone disease, and the only thing that helped the awful pain from it was Soma. I'm tired of being in pain & if the Soma is the only thing that helps, then why deny me the Soma that are completely legal? Enough is enough!!! If he denies to re-prescribe it, then put me back on Oxycontin 80mg a day. Does anyone know why so many people I know can't get their Soma either??
The US government is making it very difficult for Drs to prescribe all pain medication. Drs also don't want to be part of any kind of DEA investigation if the DEA wants to delve deeper. The DEA has all access to pharmacy records and can randomly investigate.
It's not the DEA that's behind my losing my Soma. My Dr. still prescribes a lot of Oxycodone to a lot of people who don't even need it!!!, But I can't have my Soma back. It's complete BS .... After being prescribed Soma for 17 years!!!
@jac, were you required to submit to any lab tests to check for this or any other medications in your body? If so, did the levels not come back as expected?
@Roy, I am on a lot of meds & have lab work & urine cultures every 3 months. Every med that I'm taking shows up in these tests because I take all my meds. This Dr. just took a friend of mine off of her Soma, but she's only on that one med! I don't understand after 17 years, all of a sudden I'm hearing that all Drs. are taking any & all of their patients off of Soma. The question remains as WHY???
The DEA is taking Drs. rights away from them to prescribe any pain meds for people who are REALLY in pain & need their meds. WHY??? Because of all the heroin overdoses. The DEA is WRONG for doing this, they have no right to be basing the heroin od's to the pain meds that the Drs. are no longer allowed to prescribe because of this. The DEA needs to give our Drs. back the right to prescribe pain meds for their patients. It's a DAMN shame we have to live in pain because the DEA is wrong for doing this to our Drs.Who's with me???
Hmmm, well I tried searching on the FDA site to see if there have been any recalls or advisories for doctors to cut back on prescribing it like they have done with other medications this year... and couldn't find anything. Did the Dr at least tell you why they were stopping the medication? May I ask what other pain drugs you are prescribed at the moment? If you mentioned you were taking Oxycodone, maybe they think that's all you should be on right now.
Ruy, thank you for asking & responding. I'm subjected to lab tests & urine culteres & NEVER has either one shown that I'm not taking my meds'. My Dr. told me that these street drug makers are making some kind of "Cocktail " with Soma & Xanax. An elderly friend of mine was given a choice between his Xanax or Oxycodone, which of course he chose his Oxys. WTF?????
Gina, the DEA needs to be investigated by someone higher up because they're killingpeople who need their pain meds, even people losing their xanax after being on them for years.Excuse me if anyone takes offense to this, but all this crap didn't start until TRUMP became president...Why don't we all move to Russia?? LOL
jac, A lot of people have died from combining Soma, Xanax and certain other medications with opiates. Maybe your doctor thinks your Oxycontin 80 mg is too much to combine with Soma. Soma is a muscle relaxer. Your doctor does not have to prescribe you any medication.
If someone needs Xanax, they need to see a psychiatrist.
I've been having severe panic attacks since I was 5. Both parents were prescribed xanax, & my Sister takes Ativan.
I was also on it, they said it can stop your heart!!! They just shut down my P.M. Dr. in Hamilton, Ohio and now It takes anywhere from 6 week's to 3 months to even get into one and I did go to one that WOULD NOT EVEN TALK TO ME, REFUSED TO TREAT ME AND WALKED OUT OF THE ROOM JUST AS SOON AS I TOLD HIM THE MED'S I WAS ON! AND HAVE BEEN ON FOR YEAR'S!!! I ABUSE NOTHING, I HAVE CHRONIC PANCREATITIS, NEED TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT, HAVE BONE SPURS IN MY SHOULDER AND A CYST, MAJOR NERVE DAMAGE IN MY ARM, AND I CAN NOT FIND A DOCTOR. Some one else that is in the same situation went to a P.M. Dr. and was told you don't treat pain with pain med's!!! I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE PEOPLE THAT TRULY NEED PAIN MEDICATION, THAT HAVE NEVER ABUSED ANYTHING IN THEIR LIFE ARE GOING TO DO ESPECIALLY HERE IN HAMILTON, OHIO. CINCINNATI PAIN MANAGEMENT IS CLOSED!!! GOOD LUCK TO ANY ONE AND EVERY ONE LOOKING, IF ANYONE CAN HELP US, PLEASE DO SO!!!! THANK YOU.

The Perfect Storm: Opioid Risks and 'The Holy Trinity'-

My doc took me off in October, last year. No explanation. Had no problem writing a script for hydrocodone, tho. Unsolicited advice: For your bone disease, look into magnesium oil- sublingually, vitamin C, vitamin D, and zinc.

"If someone needs Xanax, they need to see a psychiatrist."
Ouch, isn't the going rate like $500 now to see one? I know the local Pain guy also charges $500 and he is the only psychiatrist in town too. I still think the family doctor is your most economical provider of all around medical care
Re: EDDY (# 14)
A Pain Management Doctor is not the same as a Psychiatrist. The cost of seeing a doctor varies greatly depending on where you live and if you have insurance or are self pay.
When it comes prescribing opiates for chronic pain along with drugs like Xanax for anxiety. Most doctors won't prescribe them together due to the high number of overdoses in patients being prescribed both medications.
Re: BL (# 15)
I must disagree in my area. The local Pain Center is run by a Psychiatrist, he does not take Insurance and he does charge $500 for the initial visit
Re: EDDY (# 16)
He probably has Pain Management as a subspecialty. Psychiatrists primarily treat mental health issues.
Re: BL (# 17)
I know that, he is the only one in town for both specialities. I wanted to see him for an SSDI application and have great insurance, he doesn't take insurance, therefore the $500 came up. Even the County wanted $500 for a 15 minute appointment
Because it potentiates opiates and benzodiazepines. So when you're taking Somas and let's say oxy it makes the oxy and the Soma seem stronger. Soma also breaks down as a pro drug known as Milltown or mebromate which was taken off the market in the 70s because as barbituate effects
Re: jac (# 2)
You sound like me, it happened on the first of nov 2017. The n.p, I've been seeing was new to me and didn't feel comfortable prescribing soma because she said it was dangerous. I said you've got to be kidding, I've been taking soma for about 20 years, off and on after a bus accident and back surgery. I got severe back spasms down my side and leg. It's god awful and soma is all that helps, having thoughts of suicide. I can't do this pain every day, so i got desperate and took a couple of old pain pills, something to help me sleep. Well, I didn't think about my n.p. appt. in the morning, and U/A. Oh well, now after 20 years, first time, and you took away the soma, all this crap has happened. With the reactions on the phone, looking for another doctor makes me feel like some dumba** kid. I just turned 60, in Northern Va. If anyone knows a nice doc, let me know. I'm disabled in a w/c. Thanks.

Because they metabolize into something, forget what, but it's an old narcotic if I'm not mistaken. So docs are of course getting flack. I know a couple people in same situation. Looks like the bs opioid epidemic (give me a f*# n break) is successful in creating misery & probably causing it to snowball in a different demographic. I know I did what I had to do, & it was successful in my being able to tolerate physical therapy which I fully believe is the most helpful for musculoskeletal disorders and injury, a good therapist is a must and your own full participation. When the docs tried wielding their power, I had no use for the bullcrap so took care of it my way. I used the meds as opposed to abusing & am pretty much on the path to wellness again. I don't need the meds anymore, other than OTC some days
Re: EDDY (# 22)
In order to be eligible for SSDI and Medicare you must have at least 20 work credits for 5 out of the past 10 years prior to your Established Onset Date. An adjudicator or ALJ decides your Established Onset Date. It may or may not be the same as your Alleged Onset Date.
You got the minimum 40 work credits over a life time required for Social Security Retirement mixed up with the minimum 20 credits in the past 10 years for SSDI.
Re: EDDY (# 28)
You can post nonsense until you are blue in the fingers and face. Unless LAWS are changed (and NOT on just a State level) then you have squat. When this case reaches the SCOTUS it will make ALL marijuana sales illegal (except for a few medical uses and then that will not mean smoking marijuana.) What will you do then? When BY LAW all retail marijuana shops are closed down? You had better get to Congress and change the law because that is what you are going to have to do. I could care less what they do in Canada. THAT is their business. We still have the Supremacy Clause in the United States Constitution. Look it up because you are oblivious to what it says. BTW, just SAYING something does not make it so. You are in such a state of denial on this issue. Good luck because you are going to need it. Just because obamler told the DEA to stand down and not enforce the law does not mean that it will stay that way.
Re: W john (# 27)
Soon Canada will be legalizing it as well. In Nevada you can pay someone for sex legally; for a time you could only gamble there. 30 States have medical marijuana programs and many have total legalization like we do here in the Golden State. Cannabis is better than pills, try some today!
Re: EDDY (# 26)
You are so wrong. States CANNOT “do anything they want”. For those same people who understand what the Supremacy Clause in the United States Constitution is we know better. While all of these dope-fiend houses voted in could be shut down overnight the present administration is allowing a Court case to go through the Federal Courts where the law will be upheld. Who will you blame then? You can’t make up your own rules as you go.
Re: w john (# 23)
Sure States can do what they have done with legal and medical Marijuana. Why you sound like Jeff Sessions, I'd like to see that little Pencil of a Man change anything, he can't? That reminds me need to go to the dispensary soon!
Steve (# 22) --
Miltown was a 70's medicine, in fact Soma breaks down into the active ingredients of Miltown in the Liver. That is why you can't easily obtain either one
Try Miltown 400mg. They are just like Soma. Meprobamate. That’s the name of it.
Re: jac (# 8)
YOU are full of ...baloney. This "pain med" issue started under the obamler regime. This has been an ongoing issue and to blame any one party is just insane. In Florida in 2010 the State was known as a "pill mill State". The obamler regime's DEA came in and started closing them down and the State legislature passed numerous laws to get the situation under control. It is the liberal hate groups that are suing the manufacturers and pharmacies in an effort to stop the production of pain meds from being manufactured and sold. They are filing numerous frivolous legal suits that they know are unwinnable but they figure they can cause the manufacturers and pharmacies to spend millions in defending them and when the Court orders the filers of these frivolous legal suits to pay damages and attorney's fees they just go bankrupt and pay nothing. The result is many manufacturers and pharmacies will have just gotten out of the business altogether. This problem has NOTHING to do with the present administration of President Trump. If he was so "anti drug" he would close down all of these illegal marijuana shops that were established illegally. NO STATE can just vote in anything that they like as the Supremacy Clause in the United States Constitution prevents any State from enacting or passing any law that is in violation of Federal law.
Hi BL, no I've given up on that but if I was to win there would have been a 60% offset due to my Retirement pension. Medically I'm cool, just reporting what was available in my remote area when I needed help. I then got hit by a Semi Truck so the amount I might have got from SSDI wasn't as important anymore. Plus you have to have 40 Credits in the last 10 years to even qualify for SSDI which I didn't!
