Where To Purchase Paregoric (Page 17)
UpdatedI've used Paregoric for 15 years and can't find it. Is there anywhere in the U.S. or other countries where this can be purchased?
Paregoric drops (the original) have been used by my 88 year old mother since she was born. Used it for menstrual and regular stomach pain. Now of course it's considered a drug by the "very smart" FDA. You can buy it in the islands (Santo Domingo, Jamaica, etc.) but of course you need to know someone or go there yourself. Here in Miami they sell a papaya enzyme with the same name, but not the same.. Also sold on AMAZON, but not the original. It appears to be "close" but never the same. At last resort, drink an anisette liqueur made in Spain called "Anis del Mono". It is sold in most liquor stores especially in the Hispanic side of town. It is very good and sweet - has been on the market since 1870 - if it doesn't take the pain away it will get you drunk and the pain WILL GO AWAY ! :)
So you're trying to trick your brain by using the Anisette. You're funny, and get drunk too. Good one!
i take Dicyclomine and it seems to help with my cramps and spasms of my colon. I have had Diverticulitis surgery about a year ago and was told that my colon would quit hurting. Wrong.
When I was about 8 years old I had an upset stomach so my grandmother gave me some paragoric it tasted so nasty within a matter of minutes I threw my guts up. It was horrible
any opiod(paragoric) givin to a child can cause respitory deppression leading to death. IChildre unnder10 are especialy vulnerable. The diaphram in children can quickly slow down and stop(no breathing)when given even small doses of any opoid-narcotic! DONT DO IT W\OUT DR. SUPERVISION
"Ouzo" from Greece will do the same thing as Anis del Mono evidently does and it also tastes like Anise and you can find it in almost any liquor store: no need to go to specific parts of town. *One note of caution, even for regular drinkers or even drunks, DON'T drink more than 1 shot the first time you drink Ouzo. Give it a few minutes, or you're very likely to either find yourself on the floor or barfing your guts out. Man, I miss "Greek Islands" restaurant in Chicago! Fantastic food... Opa!!
Saoirse, You've given some really great advice on a wide array of topics that DO come with chronic pain and the meds prescribed in the U.S. and, for me, the hell the FDA puts me through. I can only walk a few horrendously painful steps so I've mainly been confined to a wheel chair for over 15 years and I'm still having to piss in a stupid cup every other month which as long as the so-called "Pain Doctors" in Kentucky will let you without them seeing you again so they bill Medicaid over $300 bucks and ALL of us are treated like addicts and criminals and I'm getting so sick of all this crap that I'm really very close to saying, 'To hell with it all' and stop taking all of my medications. When a human being is so sick and in horrible pain, WHERE is the humanity from any dang doctor? "First, do no harm..." I don't think so! I don't take anything as strong as most of the people putting posts on this forum and I'm still treated like a criminal or a junkie. I take 3 Oxycodone (Percocet) w/ 325 mg. of Ibuprofen, 3 x per day and that's it and it doesn't cut it but I can't take any other type of pain med. other than I.V. Morphine (*NOT Morphine Sulfate!) or Morphine inj's. so, basically, I'm screwed. I have left two doctors because of their inhumanity, only to find that third doctor is just the same. They are Anesthesiologists, Gas-Passers, people, who make tons of money as Anesthesiologists working with surgeons on the days and/or hours they're not at the Pain Clinic and they don't know crap about diagnoses or the myriad of diseases that I endure 24/7. My best suggestion is a whole lot of prayers OR if there's a TRULY GOOD man out there who lives in an island country where Paregoric or CBD Oil & THC Oil is legal and is looking for a great woman: here I am!
I've had a hemicolectomy, i.e. partial removal of small intestine and large intestine, necessitated by (old) radiotherapy damage to bowel. The result was horrendous and unrelenting diarrhoeia. Prescribed by gastroenterologist, I now take Cholestyramine sachets and a spoon of Normacol Granules Natural High Fibre (each 10g contains Sterculia 6.2g) (for bowel regulation the box says). I live in South Africa but guess products with similar ingredients should be available I hope! This pair of meds works for me as long as I eat sensibly and stay off the high fat foods and 'moving' veg etc. Before the op I used to use codeine phosphate 30mg tabs and they were also very helpful.
Been there, done that, got the T-shirt, my heart goes out to those still struggling with the scourge of uncontrollable diarrhoeia.
I read these posts as we are all suffering, with more pain. How does a thing like this happen? Do junkies even know about paregoric? Im so sick and tired of the government in my life. They're all criminals, not us. The world is becoming a bad place and WE have to suffer? Give me a break! Im sorry for the rant but Im down to my quarter of an inch of paregoric and truly scared.
I found some of that in my father-in-law's medicine cabinet after he was deceased, it may be expired. What's in it? Trying to figure out what it was. {edited for privacy}

Where do you get dried poppy pods?
Re: geelow (# 271)
Only thing you have to do is find a store in the United States that sells products from Trinidad. I did 2 weeks ago in the State of Florida. I bought two bottles.
Re: Queen Victoria (# 333)
We bought the last time in May this year. They have to have it overnighted from the supplier, but we always had it the next morning. Thank you. Good luck.
Re: Kimmie (# 337)

Re: Kimmie (# 337)
Hi Kimmie,
My dads been very ill with aggressive uncontrollable diarrhea. Do Drs still prescribe paregoric? My grandmother used to give it to me as a child, it's the only thing that ever really worked. My dad has cancer and is very weak from his diarrhea, Imodium isn't even touching it. He's in Florida . Thanks !- Dawn
