Going to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?

Thanks!

This is my second month of taking Viibryd. I went straight from Lexapro to Viibryd with no weaning etc. I felt fine until about 2 weeks ago, then I had a total meltdown. These last few days have been spent pondering how to get rid of myself in the easiest possible way. My dr gave me Xanax and I am now to see a PSY, but I've never felt do uttterly black before. I've taken everything. Lexapro, paxil, prozac, effexor, wellbutrin, pristiq....blah blah blah. I'm just plain out tired from feeling crazy. I hate everything and I am so sad & angry. Like I said this has only been happening for about 2 weeks. It's like something inside me broke and I can't find the leak. I just want it to stop.

Hey all, I am at work, so can't type much today. I am feeling pretty great! Have had some strange dreams...ect..NOT bad though like sleep drugs do to me...lol.. I do seem to wake up too...but I immediately just go back to sleep and start dreaming again..I dan live with that..I think...Wonder if stopping the Wellbutrin would work for me laura. I have gone off and on it a thousand times. I don't do the taper thing...lol..might try it. It usually doesn't hit me that I am off it til about two weeks out. It would be great to only take One dep med along with my other meds. Go back to the doc Friday. Everyone keep your heads up and hope all of you that are having problems start feeling better. Will check back later! :)

I know exactly how you feel Shannon. Was there something that triggered your sadness or did it just pop up? For me, there are endless thoughts that cause overwhelming sadness and anxiety. My doc won't prescribe Xanax, but gave me klonopin. About the only time i'm at peace is when I sleep. Sorry for your setback. You're not alone.

The reason I asked about the Wellbutrin was because I thought that maybe the V would work by itself. I have been taking it for a long time on and off...mainly on. I just go off it cause I would rather not take meds...course when i do...like I said a couple of weeks out...everyone is telling me to take my meds...lol... I started taking it years ago, with lexapro. I for some reason just was crying and upset and nothing would work. Went to a great Christian doctor and explained to him what I was going through...course there were a lot of things going on in my life...seems that is the usual...lol.. I have been taking it since then..on and off...like I said. Didn't like the lex so I took myself off it. Just been on Wellbutrin for many years...except the xanax..that is for panic attacks while driving...I wish I could just drive like I used to!!! I want to take off on the highway and just go...but I stick to regular streets for the most part. Am hoping the V helps with that too..that is why I was wondering if the Wellbutrin could be causing more anxiety and maybe just the V would be good.

Shannon...sure hope you get to feeling better!! Prayers are with you!!
Other than that...this is so far a great med for me... :)

I just got put on viibryd after my last med, pamelor, made me tachychardic. The pamelor worked with topamax to cover both migraines and gad, so when I got on the viibryd and started having daily headaches, red flags galore! Neurologist said to talk to shrink, shrink said wait another week to see how I feel.

I just started the 20mg dose a couple days ago, the side effects are wearing off it seems but it's been a trip. I've had nausea, headaches, abdominal cramping, vision issues, etc. I haven't had this much trouble with one of these drugs since I tried to get on cymbalta.

If anyone is having headaches or eye pain, I think it has something to do with muscle tightness. I started taking a low dose of baclofen, a muscle relaxer, at night before bed and that seems to clear up the head pain.

Chuck- Glad to see you're hanging in there! I hope my psy has a coupon for this stuff. I know my insurance company is going to birth kittens when I go to get my refill. I'll probably hit my dr up for another sample pack just in case they decide they want to do some lengthy preapproval process before filling it.

ls- Wellbutrin isn't good for folks with GAD or issues with anxiety...trust me on this one. I was on Wellbutrin and zanax when I had my meltdown and ended up in the hospital. If you can wean off of it, I'd give it a shot. I'm doing the same thing. I'd forgotten to take it for a few days and I noticed that I wasn't as edgy or irritable, also, I think Wellbutrin contributes to anger issues- it seems like it's harder to handle anything when I'm on it. I may not be crying and trying to slit my wrists with a soup spoon, but I'd almost take that over feeling hostile and paranoid anyday. I've cut my 300's in half, and I can honestly tell a real difference in my mood. I'm generally much, much happier and more level.

Shannon- HUGS!! I know what you mean. I had a few really down days last week, so I know what you mean. I get bad enough at times that I'm making bets with the milk in the fridge on which of us will be around by it's expiration date. Just take it one day at a time and try to remember that you're not alone, we're all in this together.

JHess- I made a post about the topamax that I was on. I found out that I was getting the generic after several days of feeling horrible with terrible headaches, which I'd never had before. I stopped it, and no more headaches. I was also on the viibryd though, so if you've been on the generic and it's been working, and now it's not, it could be that the two drugs together just don't work well. I get more benefit from the viibryd than I did the topamax, so I chose to stay on V.

UPDATE-

I had an absolutely horrible week last week- it had nothing to do with Viibryd, but there was a very upsetting family issue that I had to deal with. I was a mess, but folks, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be....this is good stuff. Let me put it this way, the same issue came up a few years ago, when I tried to kill myself, and this time, while I was upset, I was able to deal with my feelings and not turn them inward in a self destructive way. I was more rational, and collected, and calm....I was able to see the situation for what it is, something that wasn't my fault, and think through things without becoming overwhelmed. This is a big first for me, and now that I've been through something as tough as last week was without falling apart, I'm feeling much more confident in my ability to deal with crisis without losing my mind.

Side effects- I'm not having many, aside from some blurred vision, although I really need to go get some new glasses anyway. No more headaches, and my hair loss is slowing down. I've started taking supplements, and I feel much better. No doubt that the topamax was the cause of the hair loss. I haven't been sleeping very soundly, but I doubt it's the medication. I've been able to get out and go to the gym, and eat healthy, not craving carbs...these have all been big issues with other antidepressants. Overall, I'm really feeling good about this one. I'm going to work on coming off the wellbutrin completely over the next week, I know it's just a crutch and I'd rather not take it. I know it contributes to my anxiety, and I think V is strong enough to work without it. Of course, if it doesn't, I can always start taking it again, so there's no reason not to try. Worst case- I have to go back on it....best case- I never have to take it again.

I appreciate everyone's continuing efforts to update on their progress. It's great to know that I'm not the only lab rat taking this stuff! Plus, seeing how most of us are feeling good, I'm glad the improvement doesn't seem to be all in my head, so to speak! Have a great week folks!

Hey, everyone! Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but it's been hectic around here. Today was the first day of school and getting everything ready was quite a task. Now that I have only my 4yo around during the day, I think I can post on a more regular basis.

OMG! I cannot believe the thing about the generic Topamax and hair loss! I had no idea, never would have associated the two. My hair has been falling out for I don't know how long now and I have been on the generic Topamax ever since it became available. (I was on the name brand at first too.) I ran out about a month ago and haven't been taking it (I think my mail-order Rx got lost) and lately I've noticed that my thick mane is coming back. I haven't had any trouble with headaches without it, so I think I'm just gonna ditch it. One less pill = happier Tiger. LOL Come to think of it, when I started the name brand, I lost 30 pounds without even trying and had no problem keeping it off. Now I'm OVERweight and cannot get a pound to budge. I've always had a great metabolism and I haven't changed a thing in my lifestyle. I wonder if those two are connected and if a month or so of the name-brand would have the weight loss effect again. Could be worth a try and I would gladly pay for it if my insurance company got its panties in a wad. Of course I think my dr could specify "no substitution" on the script and they would have to just suck it up. Light bulb moment... = )

I'm gonna have to check out the thyroid madness website too. I had all my levels checked recently - due to the hair loss, unexplained weight gain, family history, etc. - and all my numbers were fine.

As for the Viibryd, I think it's really working well! I've been on the 40mg for 4 days now and no side effects, other than I'm hungry again and it's mainly for sweets...which sucks when I'm dealing with this weight thing. I cannot win. *sigh* LOL I actually LOVE my husband again - in June, I met with two divorce attys - and OMG...not only am I not avoiding sex with him, I'm "instigating" it! Wow! I'm feeling much more level-headed, too. Husband was drunk tonight and made a comment which could have set off a major argument, but I ignored it and it went away. That felt good!

I did have some anxiety in the beginning, but that seems to have leveled off. Back to minimal Xanax. And it is definitely helping my Vyvanse last longer, thank God. I think I'm on the verge of a good combination here. I haven't cried in at least two weeks. = )

Oh yeah. I too wonder if my insurance company is going to throw a fit when I get my first fill. Thanks for the tip about the free coupon. I think I'll ask for another sample pack too. I have to go by the doc's office for my new Vyvanse script anyway. (It is SUCH a pain in the ass having to go pick up a handwritten Rx every time I need to fill that. The "users and abusers" out there that make this necessary really chap my cheeks! Sudafed, anyone?)

See y'all again soon.

ls - I'm curious. Do you live in a large city? Just wondering about your driving issues. I know when I lived in New Orleans, I would get serious panic attacks when stuck in rush hour traffic.

OMG CT, I think we're living the same life. I think Viibryd should have a new slogan:

Viibryd....making it easier to deal with your sh*t.

or

Viibryd...I'll take the medication so you don't have to.

CT- I noticed that too, with the weight thing. When I was on Topamax before, not the generic, I dropped weight like it was nothing. I seriously wasn't hungry, didn't think about food, and had to remind myself to eat. This time, with the generic, I felt nothing like that. The bad thing is, they've been trying to get the FDA to approve it for obese patients as weight loss drug. It was used off-label like that for years. I hope they haven't managed that, because the generic is absolutely not the name brand.

Thanks again Chuck for the heads up about the coupon. I called my psy yesterday and she's going to have the rep bring a few into the office, so I should be set for a free month. From what she told me though, it's only on your first Rx, so if you're trying to track one down, make sure you don't pick up your first Rx until you have it in hand.

Has anyone noticed any hot flashes, or something of the sort? Last night, while I was cooking, I became terribly flushed and hot, very red in the face and even sweating. This has never happened to me before and I'm in my early 30's, so I doubt it's hormonal. I was also a little dizzy and out of it. In general, I've noticed that my normally ice cold hands and feet are consistently warm, which is really different for me. I'm wondering if maybe the Viibryd is upping my BP a bit, maybe when I'm on my feet too much?

I haven't taken my meds this morning and boy can I feel a difference. I'm going to take them and crawl back in bed until my body and mind decide I should wake up.

Laura, I talked to the doc about the Wellbutrin and she said to give V another month and then give it a shot...see what happens. It has really been a lifesaving drug for me, but it would be nice to only take the V!!...

CT, My driving problem started a few years ago..just little by little it got worse, to the point I just could hardly get anywhere. I could drive around on regular roads, but big HW's and/or anything over about 40mph, had become a very big deal. I know how some of it started, and why I am scared of certain things, but that feeling of panic with shock waves going through your body and dizziness is really weird!!! The xanax sure helped a whole lot...at least I could drive halfway normal...still on back roads. The Viibryd right now is amazing. I drove the speed limit (65mph) a couple of towns over for the first time this weekend. Every time I felt a little panic, it seemed to subside. I hope this continues!!! Maybe I will be able to drive on a real HW someday soon!!..

OK, this is weird. I picked up my first Viibryd Rx this weekend - WITH free coupon, tyvm! - and when I got home I realized that they were 20mg to be taken once daily. I wonder if my dr made a goof. Would you actually go to the max for two weeks, then titrate DOWN? Forgot to e-mail him about that this afternoon. Very crappy, hectic day. My 8yo has Asperger's (we think) and he had a meltdown at school this morning and continued to wig out throughout the day. Tonight he refused to do his (really easy) homework and for some reason, he spit at his Dad. As you can imagine and rightfully so to an extent, this turned into a major ordeal, although I think my husband took it a little too far. *DISCLAIMER: In no way did he physically harm this child.* My son fell asleep - or so it appears - curled up in the fetal position. Now I feel like a mean, evil b****, like all this is my fault, and I just want to scoop my "poor child" up and rock him all night.
Laura, that's wild. I have had some nonhormonal hot flashes from time to time. (My OB/GYN took out all my plumbing years ago.) I didn't even realize that I no longer have what my husband calls "ice cube hands"! It's GOT to be blood pressure-related, since I'm on a stim and Viibryd.

I have tried just about every anti depressant that has come out over the years including Welbutron, prozac. zoloft.celexa, lexapro, you name it Ive tried it and had really given up on any one antidepressant to work for me. I suffered with clinical depression brought on by a divorce that caught me by surprise, I finnally went to a pshyciatric Dr, and explained my delima and frustration with the sexual side effects of the others, He gave me a 30 day supply of Viibryd (sample) and I am on day 21 only side effects early on was a bit of diaria but that was short lived. So far so good. no other side effects to mention. I think maybe this will finally be the medice that works for me. Still think I need to get through the cycle of the 40 ml to be sure. Mood seems to be better but still feel a bit depressed, however, not constant. Definitely beginning to make some strides compared to day 1

Well, after three weeks on 40Mg, my anxiety was off the charts. Went to see Dr and he said it was too much Serotonin. Also diagnosed me as bipolar 2...always down, never up. Cut me back to 20Mg Viibryd and 5Mg Abilify. That seems to have done the trick. Anxiety is much better now. Anyone else experiencing similar anxiety caused by a serotonin imbalance?

My problems have gotten sooo much better. I am driving better than I have in years!! I have read that some people have had more anxiety on it though. I stopped taking my Well a couple of days ago just to see how that goes. So far, so good...will see after a couple of weeks. Glad you are feeling better Chuck. This just seems to effect people differently. I am really relaxed and feel great so far!!! Scared to say that...lol... My dreams are weird, but I sleep, though I do wake up during the night.

Hi there,

I don't mean to intrude on your discussion, but I have several small bleeding ulcers (I am currently on Protonix for that) and I started taking Viibryd about 3 weeks ago for major depressive disorder. Has anyone else had any issues with Viibryd and GI disorders? I noticed today that my ulcers are bleeding again...not to be gross or anything. I am going to my GI doc tomorrow..just wanted to know if anyone else had the same issues. Thanks!

BBC,

Viibryd is known for some people having major GI issues when taking it...usually it goes away in a few weeks. Even on the side effects of the med, these issues are described. I haven't had any of those problems, thank the Lord!! But the answer is yes. Chipur forum and the depression forum have many posts that you can read up on. Hope you get to feeling better!!

Laura,

Had to go back on my Well. Gosh, I was waking up with my heart pounding for about a week, and I was really nervous during the day. Took my Well. Saturday and I finally calmed down... I am doing so much better with my anxiety and driving issues....hopefully I will become normal one day...lol

This may be a duplicate (king of) post. I posted earlier, but I have noticed you can't talk about other places to get info in these emails.

BBC,
Yes V is known for GI problems...I haven't had those thank the Lord! Read the side effects. There are many people that are having those problems, but they are clearing up as they go.

Laura,

Had to go back on W...gee...I got so nervous when I went off it...Feeling much better!!

Thanks for your response Laura. I called my doc and she told me to stop Viibryd and she is going to put me on something else. It's really a shame cause Viibryd was really working great! I haven't felt this good mentally in a long time. Back to the drawing board, I guess.

Thanks again,

B

BBC, I have been having some pretty bad acid reflux lately but I can't say whether or not it's because of the V. I've never had any kind of stomach problems like that - other than during my two pregnancies and it cleared up immediately after my two little darlings (lol) quit beating up my g/i system - but so far it's not bad enough to give up the good effects of the V, so I guess I will wait it out for a while longer.

Also, the decrease in dosage WAS a mistake...don't know whose, but I'm taking two of the 20mg tablets until my 40 mg tablets come in the mail. Now I'm REALLY glad that first 30 days was free. = )

Still doing really well. I even have a job offer on the table! Bad part is, I think I'm going to turn it down because the pay is not good enough to put my 4yo in day care and the job itself looks really damn boring. I have another possibility in the works, working 3 evenings a week and graveyards on the weekends at the charity hospital here. PERFECT hours for me, shift differential pay is great, and very little paid child care needed! Please send out good thoughts for me. I REALLY need something good to happen for me. It's been a very long time since something went MY way.
Love to you all.

Thanks for responding, Tiger. I am going to my GI doc this morning, as I don't really think think my GI meds are working all that great. My doctor did say to pay her a visit this upcoming week and she'll put me on something else.

I hope you get the job you want! I don't have kids, but I know that childcare is expensive!
