Going to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?

Thanks!

Weaning off of Viibryd. I had bad diahhrea when I first got on it. I had disturbing dreams and was extremely irritable.

Right now my hips ache and my back hurts real bad, especially the right side when I take a deep breath. I'm not sure if it is related. Hopefully I will be seeing my doctor today to find out.

Off of the Viibryd. Weaned off myself. Arm pain is getting better and hip pain is gone. Thank goodness. It really helped me get through a bad bout of depression, but having severe pain everyday, all day, was getting to me.

I had a horrible time with transitioning between Effexor and Viibryd, but once the levels were higher with the Viibryd I have been feeling significantly better. I've been at full dose for about 10 after building up for 10 days before. I had the nausea, vomiting, tingling, etc. I hope you can talk with your doc in the morning.

I am on day 12 of Viibryd starter pack. I am having a hard time. First night vomiting and terrible nausea. I also had trouble sleeping and would wake up twice a night having to urinate, which is new. Then after a few days I had awful heart burn. Today I feel very irritable and anxious, also like I am in a cloud. I want to stop Viibryd but wonder if I can just stop or taper down. Dr. not available to answer.

Hi Linda,
I just started 10mg today (after coming down from 40 and 20). Believe I am going to get off completely, sadly. It is not worth the physical pain.
And, Bronwyn, I just looked up 5HT1A receptor agonists. Now it makes sense that Vii would cause this kind of mind confusion as Psilocybin is also in the class!
Again, scary stuff.

I have tried alot of antidepressants over the years and after reading about Viibryd I was looking forward to taking it as I've never found one that really works for more than several months. It did help with motivation and energy after only a week...but...Wow!!! I have never had an antidepressant do me this way. I have had no stomach issues or headaches. About half way through the starter pack (20 mg) the first side effect was this "brain zap" or this weird buzzing in my head, especially when dozing off to sleep. I would jump and wake up and then I would see things moving in my periferal vision that werent there. Even the pattern on my sofa was moving. There is no sleep when this is going on and it would happen about twice a week and last several hours. I also have this pain in the right side of my neck...like I slept on it wrong that started after being on 40mg for about 50 days. Then there are the dreams...They started while on the starter pack...OMGosh! These dreams are so vivid that when I would wake up I didnt know if it had really happened or not. Crazy science fiction stuff or a visit from a dead loved one. I would have memories during the day of stuff I had done in a dream the night before and would have to seriously make myself remember that it was from a dream. And mind numbing evil demonic night terrors where I wake up screaming!!! I even had one manic episode (manic for me) where I couldnt sleep all night and ended up crying and rocking for about 3 hours trying to convince myself that I wasnt insane. I was on it for 3 months and quit cold turkey 5 days ago. I really couldnt stand it anymore. Ive got to have some sleep. Im still having the vivid dreams when I can sleep but they arent as bad at this point. And I am having really bad mood swings since quiting but I know it will go away. I know Im not suppose to stop this way but it was that or go stark raving mad. I will be calling my dr when his office opens in 2 hours. Hoping he will be able to help me sleep. I feel like Ive been awake for a week. I know this medicine can help some people but it wasnt for me. Just sharing my experience in hopes that it may help in some way for someone else.

Hi dawnzig, I am on 10 mg. now. Arm pain is pretty bad. It is inflamed and sore to the touch. Really hasn't gotten better since lowering the dose.

Correct me if im wrong but i read somewhere that the side effects of 5HT1A receptor agonists can sometimes cause cognitive and memory problems to certain people

I'm having intensely scary memory problems with Vii now (month 5? 6?). Can't remember things from second-to-second (twice now I couldn't recall my own address!). Don't comprehend things (i.e., numbers, problem-solving). WAY worse than when I had my very first depressive episode 20yrs ago, or during all sorts of crazy meds....

Oh, and my far vision is becoming blurry, rapidly. Never was an issue (I wear readers for seeing *near*). I'm talking 10 feet away to far in the distance, words/sights are totally blurred/double-vision. Not good.

In addition to the sometimes-horrific joint pain (which hasn't lessened since the Dr. lowered the dose from 40 to 20mg a month ago), I doubt I'll be on this much longer. :(

Sorry that amyison is having so many problems... I have the sweet cravings, but actually lost a few lbs. But, I also had several vicious mood episodes (violent, hostile) where I've actually felt 'out of control'--not sure if it's the Vii, more like something this drug's not helping with b/c this is what I was like when unmedicated. (Although, I could be wrong...)

Btw, I'm BPII.

But, hey, on the bright side, at least I'm not laying in bed all day; I'm up and semi-productive, that is, if you don't count the hostility, teariness, pain and sweet cravings.

At this rate, none of this'll matter b/c I'll be blind and won't remember anyway, right?! ;-
Scary shizzit what these drugs do....

Viibryd really shouldn't be prescribed for people with bipolar disorder. I was on Celexa for two years. Added Wellbutrin , was on it for 2 weeks and felt like I could crawl out of my skin. Ditched that, and the Celexa was making me two fatigued and drowzy. So I ditched that too for Viibryd. Upon my rapid transition from 40mg of Celexa to 40mg of Viibryd, I actually went into a hypomanic episode for 3 days at just 10mg. It dropped off and I had an mild depressive episode. It was the first time my mood actual cycled like that in my life so rapidly. After I moved up to the 20mg of, I started feeling a little confused and hazy and not really remembering the conversations I was having or where i was for seconds at a time. It sounds really scary, but it's not as frightening as it sounds. I'm now taking 40mg, and I'm proof that a med with a rough startup can be super effective. The only side effect I have is some occasional diarrhea here and there, but nothing serious. Despite the fact that Viibryd is a 5HT1A receptor partial agonist which should deliver an anxiolytic effect, its pretty stimulating at 40mg.

amyison

I keep reading all these people that are BP are on Viibryd. I really don't understand why a doc would do that. From what I read, you aren't suppose to take it if you are BP and on BP meds.

Sorry you had such a bad experience!!

Update:

Arm/joint pain still here, even at lowered dose, some days better than others but still very painful.

Am now getting the blurry vision at a distance. Had needed glasses for seeing up close but am distressed at the rapid decline in seeing far.

Wondering if anyone's gone off/lowered Vii and had improvements in any/all of the side effects?

Thanks Dawnzig and Notdoneyet for the feedback. I'm feeling significantly better today, although I didn't sleep much last night. If the improvements don't continue in a good fashion, I'll ask my doc about the Prozac supplement.

Best to you both.

Agree with notdoneyet, coming off EFX was one of the worst periods in my life, too.

"Pushing" oneself to come off it on one's own is a bad idea.

Additionally, my doc had recommended the Proz for my w/d, too (I choose not to b/c I'd had bad experiences on it before so didn't want to add to my EFX misery). She said it does help the withdrawals.

And thanks, notdoneyet, for confirming the whole 'ball' thing, too. I was going down by 3 balls every 3-4 days depending on the reaction, then, when at the 10-ball mark, by 1 every other day. It was brutal!

But the relief I feel now on Vii (& lamictal) is at least 75% better--with relatively few side effects ('cept for joint pain & occasional loose stools).

Keep hangin' in there everyone!

I am just starting the viibryd also but I wanted to let you know that the horrible headaches and hot flashes are definitely party of the many withdrawal effects of the EFX. Coming off of EFX was the worst year of my life and I wanted to let you know that when people say that you literally have to count the balls to come off of it, it's true.I had to lower my dose by no more than 5 balls a well and I still thought I would die.I want to save you the misery and beg you too go straight to your Dr. and insist at least a months worth of Prozac. It will get rid of the discontinuation effects and you can stop taking it cold turkey whenever you want with no ill effects at all because it has such a long half-life. Please look it up and don't give up on the viibryd yet because it is highly likely that all of your problems are from the EFX. Sorry about my punctuation and capitalization I'm texting this.

Thanks for the info. The pins and needles sensations seem a little better today, but hard to say because I've had an awful headache, vomiting and fever all day. A year ago I had very similar symtoms; had stopped the Efx on my own for several days. Ended up in the ER with a worst headache ever and it was the flu. Now with the same symptoms and similar situation, it has me second guessing what's what. I need to take my dose of Vii now, but don't want to throw up. Haven't taken anything for the headache with the same worry.

I know I have to come off the Efx at some point and so I'm going to try and push through this weekend. Really can't miss much more work unless my doctor puts me out on med. leave and I'd rather not do that. My mood has lightened some in the past couple of days.

Hope you continue to progress well.

I hated it. I was on it for two months and was so sick to my stomach and having dry heaves. I got off it and the side affects have been going on over two weeks. No appeitite, tremors, dry heaves. Lost 20 lbs. Stay off it.

OMG, Margay, I came off Eff XR and got on Vii, too!

And I experienced all those things you did: the "tingling/itching sensations in hands, legs and feet;" and "headache, nausea and hot flashes"--EXACTLY what I went through! (Including the paralyzing depression/ inability to function.) I thought I was going thru early menopause, lol!

It was worst during the final 3 months of the 8-month process. Man, what a horrific med! I was so sensitive to it that I had dose down by single milligrams by reducing the # of little 'balls' inside the capsules, b/c it made me so sick.... SO glad to finally be off it!

My experience differs from yours, however, in that my doc started me on another med called "lamictal" to counter the depressive symptoms when I was down to the final 'balls' (i.e, 1 every other day for the final week), THEN started me on the Vii starter pack exactly a month later.

However, I still had the residual Eff sickness during that time... so it wouldn't be surprising that yours hasn't subsided yet. I got much better by the time I started Vii, so it took at about a month for me...

What hasn't changed with the Vii alone is the severe mood swings/ irritabiity and extreme teariness that developed coming off Eff--so my doc is still playing w/lamictal dosing for that.

The good news is that Vii has helped tremendously with my overall mood and energy (at least 2/3 of the tiime); I hope it helps for you, too, and that the Eff sickness goes away soon--hang in there! :)
