Viibryd Reviews (Page 30)
UpdatedGoing to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?
Thanks!
Birdie, I am right with you, after 6 weeks on viibrid I was praying it would work. Went to 30mg last week my body is killing me, my migraines are brutal and I cant leave my house. The thought of starting over for the 50th time has me so depressed but I just cant live like this:(
Another reminder that anti-depressants are not a cure-all. They are there to stabilize, but you must do the homework in other areas of your life to find that balance. Joe, I love the advice you continue to give. Being on Viibryd has given me my get-up-and-go back, but at the same time has highlighted and underlined other issues I need to take care of.
One is my sleep issues, which I've had for many years. I thought depression was to blame for them, but Viibryd has helped my waking life, so I know that the sleep issues need a sleep study to validate the other problems stemming there, and that quality of sleep will ultimately compliment the Viibryd when addressed. I am sure I have sleep apnea.
I also have found that after initially exercising and then stopping, that exercise has a huge boon in conjunction with the Viibryd and my emotional/physical well being. Exercising even 20 minutes a day greatly boosts the Vii effects and wellness.
Getting enough sleep is paramount to my function, espeically with the crap quality I have on some days.
Journaling and deep breathing help stabilize my moods.
I am still seeing a counselor, and she is helping to steer me back on track to what works.
If I can say one thing, is that I need a combination of things to keep my life in sync, so keep in mind folks, that you probably do too.
Cheers!
Kay
Donna.
I am so sorry that the Viibryd is not working for you. It is so weird how we all react differently to different meds. So far Viibryd has been a life saver for me. I also understand the frustration of "starting" I have been dealing with this crap for 23 years. But I was determined that I would never give up. I live in the DC area and have access to some of the best therapist & doctors in the country. It took me a very long time, but I finally found the best group of specialists that anyone could ask for.
Don't give up. Search for the people that are going to help you. They are out there. I promise.
I wish you all the luck in the world. If I can ever be of any help, please let me know.
Love & prayers,
Denise (aerofan)
Hello Kay: I have had 3 sleep studies, and each one came back as borderline whether I should or should not use a CPAP machine at night to sleep. I have had lousy insomnia for 20 years, and I found out 10 years ago about having mild sleep apnea.
I went for the machine, and it has been 70% better than before, which is a good result.
Sleep apnea is a problem where a breathing interruption happens, where O2 in the brain reduces, so that a "walk up" happens. That is enough to interrupt sleep, so that returning to sleep can be an issue again. Read up on Google. Also, with sleep apnea, it can cause other complications to the heart, lungs, body chemistry issues.
Good luck on progress.
Denise thank you so much for your kind words, I am the same way I have been dealing with this for 30 years. I live in the Boston, MA area and have been trying to find the best Drs. out there, I believe honestly between my depression, anxiety & migraines I have probably been on at least 100 different meds. I have no life and I'm only in my fortys, until I find the right combination for all three issues I exsist I don't live a normal life. But I refuse to give up, so back to the Drs. again this week to talk about changing the Viibrid, and praying something works. Thank you again (hugs) I wish we could exchange emails but I don't think you can on here. Anyways I'm happy it is working for your, I know my med is out there somewhere.Take care:)
I have read some articles lately that there may be actually a gene that kicks in to create depressions so that drugs may not work too much. There is a great amount of research being done on this issue if some people kick in and maintain a depression because of a gene.
As an idea, see if you can find a doctor in Boston that is involved with the following therapy program.
NeuroStar TMS Therapy is a new, noninvasive treatment option for patients with depression who have not achieved satisfactory results from previous antidepressant treatment. TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) uses magnetic field stimulation to treat the symptoms of depression and has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Good luck
Anyone having horrible diarrhea associated with taking Viibryd?
Yes try anti diarreah med like immodium
This post from Barbie has been a miracle for me today! Thank you Barbie! FYI, I have been on Viibryd for almost a year and a half. I was diagnosed with major depression and adult ADHD and was given the starter pack of Viibryd along with Adderall XR. The first 10-12 months, I felt like a new person, full of energy, hope and I was enjoying life again. I did have all the typical side effects at first. The body shocks were intense, in fact, they were so bad at times that I would ask my husband if he felt it! The scariest; however, were the times when I experienced sleep paralysis. If you haven't experienced this - pray you don't! My body would be "asleep" but somehow my subconscious was wide awake but I could not move or talk! I would desperately try to speak - nothing. I would get scared and start to panic and I desperately try to touch my husband to wake him. I remember screaming in my mind "help me", "help me"! God, that was so scary! And the dreams, whoa! Detailed, vivid dreams that seemed so real. I still remember many parts of those dreams. I did get over the paralysis and haven't had a vivid dream in a few months, but things went really downhill beginning this April. I live in the South, have asthma, and started developing severe breathing problems and fatigue so bad that I would literally get winded just walking to the bathroom. I called my pulmonary doc who said it was a bad allergy season and to start Symbicort. Ok. Did that. Breathing problems and severe fatigue continued but then I started noticing bad heartburn. I also noticed that when the heartburn (acid reflux?) started, I had intense pain all over my lower back. I just turned 45 so I thought something physical might be wrong. I have spent the last few months going from doc to doc, having all these tests done with no abnormal results. I have had to INSIST on tests because I KNOW I'm having problems. Not 1 time has any doc once considered that the Viibryd may be the source of my problems! Plus, on top of all the health problems, my depression is back. Not even Adderall helps me with energy or focus. I'm in a state of feeling numb, like nothing matters and I don't care or get excited/hopeful anymore. This site has been a blessing for me!!! I feel like I've found a significant piece to a massive puzzle that I've been trying to put together all alone. Thanks to everyone of you who took time to post your experiences to help others. I hope my post helps someone too.
I have had horrible, unstoppable diarrhea from viibryd. I quit taking it on Monday. In order to stop this damage I was told I could only have clear liquids for 24hrs. Then the next 24 hrs I could only have soft foods. I cannot have any beef or chicken for three days as well. This drug is not worth all the pain and suffering that the side effects cause.
I was having diarrhea every day from it also, but usually in the morning. Sometimes thru the day too. I finally took some anti diarrheal medicine after following some advice I read on this web site. Only took the med for 3 nights with my viibryd that I take after I eat dinner. So far no more diarrhea and its been 5 days. I feel pretty good now. Taking 30 mg nightly.
Thanks Lori, Glad I was helpful for you. I had a friend who was on a Vitamin D supplement that her Dr.had told her to take along with osteoporsis medicine.. After a while on it she started getting sick. Every month around the same time and it would last for 2 weeks or so. Pains in joints and bad head aches etc. Went to see some specialists to find out what was wrong with her. Had scans done as well. No one put 2 & 2 together. They couldn't help her. So she struggled for several months. Then one day she figured it out on her own that she was over dosing the vitamin D and osteo medicine combo. She stopped taking it and everything went right back to normal. Now she is fine. All meds are not good for everyone.
Supplements are in fact like medicine in many ways, and also we cannot vouch for the efficiacy and contamination or overdosing problems. I know many people that take loads of supplements. I am weary of that. They can cause such things as a toxic liver that has to process things and maybe act as a diuretic. Some can pass into the brain and who knows the chemistry effect. I always say that people really need to be super informed and study up on all supplements. Read books by well known doctors. See a holistic or homeopathic doctor. It is rather daunting. If you go to Whole Foods and look over the spectrum of what they sell, you really have to know what is good and necessary and contra-indicated. In fact, something could be good, but not the right dosage even. We all have different body weights and that is a factor on dosages.
When I hear of people having prolonged diarrhea, and it is not a germ or virus, then, you have to look at all foods and supplements and rx drugs. Maybe it can be Viebryd, but maybe and most likely it is something else ingested.
Sometimes taking over the counter is okay, but, it does not let you know what is actually the cause as it masks the true cause.
Anyway, just ideas for people to mull over and consider in their own case.
Zaw and Barbie - I stopped taking the 20mg Viibryd for the same stomach issue. I stopped it cold turkey and went back to my 20mg Celexa and felt better immediately. I am not sure why that side effect didn't go away after a month but it was too inconvenient with me traveling for work. It was embarassing not to mention painful and uncomfortable! I understand we can also take Immodium but you can only do that so long. I don't think its good to have to "plug up" the body week after week, either. I was taking bella donna for IBS episodes, but that is also a habit forming med. Anyway, I just wanted to report that I felt a ton better quitting Viibryd and going back to Celexa.
Anything that irritates the stomach repeatedly the way that viibryd does CANNOT be good for you . I think that this drug will cause lawsuits in the future .
Are you sure its Viibryd you have been on for a year and a half? It was only approved this year. Were you getting it illegally?

Hi...I am the one that started this post and have been taking it since July 2011 as you can see. It had been on the market since April I think...so whoever said a year and a half is pretty close....

This is from the FDA, so unless you were taking it in another country, then you were taking it before it was approved by the FDA in the United States. Very uncommon for doctors to perscribed such a serious drug without FDA approval. "Vilazodone Viibryd) was approved by the FDA for use in the United States to treat major depressive disorder in January 21, 2011".
We are constantly seeing Attorney Firms on TV wanting to sue about for every drug being introduced, including some old time ones. Often their beef is lack of warnings, or something wrong with understating amounts of rare complications. We see the advertisements on TV, but they don't release often the end results in the media of such legal cases.
I would say to everybody her that if you are feeling abnormal symptoms, you should report this to the manufacture and to the FDA. It is only by complaints from the public are these matters then investigated for responses by the maker and/or FDA. Then, the attorneys go after the markers too. That is the American way.

OH wow....I didn't know it was available in Jan. 2011. I thought it was around March or April. I started in July, 2011. So it has been a year and about 2 months for me.
