Going to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?

Thanks!

Tis is for Birdie. I too have the bathroom issues. Been on it now for 4 months. I settled on 30mg. Usually almost everyday my bowels are a mixed bag of signals. Sometimes bowels are normal and the next thing I know it's like diarreha. Cramps are not usually too bad with it. I can deal with it but just hope that my body will adjust sooner than later. As far as the social part of my anxiety, I still don't mesh well in social situations. But it seems to be working pretty well on all my other anxeity and panic issues.

This is very strange to have GI tract troubles as you describe. I don't know your age, but, you may have another GI disorder that has cropped up, maybe IBS, or other kinds of colon inflammatory disorders. If you are 50 or older, a colonscopy is very appropriate to see what maybe going on.
I would not suffer in this way, and I would suggest a gastroenterologist should be seen for a consult.
One way or the other, I hope you can find relief and peace with a positive improvement in the mental conditions.
I am personally now very satisfied with 30 mg of Viibryd.
Good luck!

Just an update, I am now on 30mgs, Ive been on vii now for 4 or 5 weeks, migraines are the same, still have them constantly, when I take the vii in the am with food I'm sick to my stomach for about 2 to 3 hours. My depression and anxiety are somewhat better, I still have zero energy...I thought I was starting to feel better but it only lasted a few days:(. I'm giving it a few more weeks, but after 2 months if I'm not feeling a lot better, unfortunately I will go off it and start over again.

Birdie, I had terrible stomach problems beginning within the first hour of taking my first dose of viibryd. It lasted for a month and slowly got better. Its a side effect of the medication . My mom also tried viibryd , but had to stop because of the constant diarrhea and stomach pain . Good luck with it

Hey Joe,
Thanks for the imput, but it is definately from the Viibryd. Never had issues until I started taking this Med. They do say tha ssris are absorbed thru your intestines.I’m reading more and more comments detailing lower GI issues (cramps, diarrhea, bloating, etc.), feeling spacey, sluggishness, fatigue, and headache. Remember, Viibryd directly influences serotonin and is a 5-HT1A receptor partial agonist. Some 80% of our serotonin supply is located in the gut, where it’s used to regulate intestinal movements. 5-HT1A receptor agonists decrease blood pressure and heart rate. I don’t believe these symptoms will be permanent for most, but given the action of the med it’s gonna’ take some getting used to.

I take Viibryd with Imodium AD. No more diarreah. Has anyone else tried to take an OTC anti-diarreah medication?

So I guess people are experiencing different types of gastrointestinal problems. If Immodium does not work, maybe there are other issues going on. I have been on Viibryd for one month and no longer have any side effects at all. But everyone is different.

Thank you for all of your comments on the gastro issue. I have also found that Bella Donna (prescribed for IBS) can be helpful with this, as it stops the spasms in the bowel. I am still having issues but I have hope that it will eventually go away!

Perhaps asking your doctor for a prescription of Dicyclomine, aka Bentyl, which can calm down GI tract pains or cramps.

Dicyclomine is used to treat the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. Dicyclomine is in a class of medications called anticholinergics. It relieves muscle spasms in the gastrointestinal tract by blocking the activity of a certain natural substance in the body.

Again, I am no doctor, but, just been exposed to a lot of stuff over the years about medicine.

Thanks everyone. I will go the immodium route tomorrow. It should help. If not then ask the dr for some of what Joe was referring to.

Hi everyone... My story is alil different. I had a botched hysterectomy 4 1/2 years ago. Several surgeries and I'm still not healed. (the one surgery that could help me could also kill me) so I've been frustrated for over 2 years. My health is going down heal bout every 3-6 months... So I aske to b put on lexapro. And takend off of it and put in the the mental ward for a few hours.

I started taking the viibryd, right after I was hit hard with a kidney stone. (I couldnt walk for 3 months) (cuz the stone and not being fully repaired) but as I approached the 11th day... I started to feel better. No my psy dr says this may have all been caused by the lexapro... I never had anxiety, unstable mood swings, voices nothing. But now I have anxiety the fear of talking to others, I can't handle stress like I use too( b4 viibryd)

I too have gotten the shocks, vivid dreams so real... Paralysis even. Didn't last long. Feelings of needles in my chest. I cannt pull all night-ers cuz the meds give me brain zaps. But I can say the migraines, back pain, and pain from my surgery have gone from a 10 plus to 1-7 on some days... Wich is amazing for me. I'm getting better with the anxiety... But it's still there. I've be in the medical field for a long time and my specialty is depression... Yet i can't understand my own.

I know the feelings of depression are real and hurt like pain no one can explain. Normally everyone comes to me for medical advice... Even my own family physician. Because I lived with and cared for people with depression. Not just living with them but understanding their feelings pain and will to want to fight and still not being able too.... Sometimes I feel like I know too much about depression and that doesn't help me with my own...any advice??... Just reading some of the post make me feel better to know I'm not alone. Thanks for posting.

First, I feel bad for what has happened to you. It appears you are coping at your best capacity which is something that has to be given credit for.
Perhaps it is harder on someone that has been emeshed in depression with others. Your mind absorbed so much, and then, it gets filled up with the personal issues and pains. So, it is understandable how this is affecting you to this degree.
I once took Lexapro for about 1 1/2 years. I found it gave me 50% improvement. I was overall disappointed with it. The advertising and such gave me high hopes. My psyche doctor said it was a great drug and pumped me up with confidence. Yet, I was left still with lackluster results. I choose to stop using it and go it alone with just sorting out life issues and fighting back with exercise and diet and doing things that are pleasurable.
I had a relapse about 2-3 years later, and wound up then going on Viibyrd last May. The same doctor as before now told me there was a better, newer drug that ought to perform better. He was right. For me, age 63, it has been like 80-90% effective, at 30 mg. If necessary, I could go to 40, but for now, I am satisfied.
I learned that we have to find satisfaction ultimately and accept the good and bad.
Your pain should be treated by specialists in pain relief and control. Often an SSRI drug will be used by pain doctors along with other ones, that is, a battery of drugs to fight back the troubles.
In your case, maybe more than Viibyrd has to be given as an adjunct drug. Sometimes a related mental health med of some sort is added to the mix. That can make a huge difference.
I don't know if you are a spiritual person or not, but, if so, that can be a great aid in finding solace and confidence and relief by putting your faith into the hands of someone higher that cares and will help.
It is important to keep talking about your problems and issues, whether with family or friends. The more you can talk out the hurt and feelings the more benefit typically. For some this can make a huge difference if they go the extra mile and talk out everything and then receive support back. It is important to identify the deeper issues that are apart of the complex of depression, so that they can be released and liberated from your inner privacy.
Writing a journal or typing things into a computer folder on a plan of action to do constructive things can be helpful. Your write down your feelings and troubles and put them into order of importance and think of a plan to deal with them and find solutions. It is like going to a class and taking notes. So, you write notes about your self and what you can do to find answers and solutions.
I could go on and on, because obviously this is complex. But, I do like this drug, and it works for so many. Yet, we know in some cases it requires more at times. In closing this is the time where people that came to you for help now need to help you back. What comes around comes around. They need to pay it back forward to you. I hope you are going to get better and well. Take care.

Folks - after much pondering, I have decided to stop taking the Viibryd. For the past 2 weeks I have been moody, negative, anxious, and had stomach issues. Not to mention, insurance doesn't cover this stupid drug! The cost for me is $164 a month, which I can't afford. I'm tired of this! I am going to go back on Celexa.

How long were you on the Viibryd? What doesage did you get up to?

Yes, for people without insurance and unable to afford, it is usually just best to go with one of the SSRIs that are out of patent protection and now generic. I know many that are on cheap prozac still and doing good with it.

Good luck on the switch.

I have been on it just over a month, 20 mg of Viibryd, from Celexa 40mg. Just more trouble than it's worth!

I wish I could, but Viibryd is the only anti-depressant that I have ever taken that does not trigger my panic attacks. Maybe after I have stabled out, I can give Lexapro a try again.
