Viibryd Reviews (Page 24)
UpdatedGoing to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?
Thanks!
I have been on Wellbutrin 150 and Cymbalta 90 for about 2 years. Worked great for awhile, then I noticed a slight decline that got gradually worse toward the end of the first year. Doc reevaluated, told me to wait it out, went back this past spring, still the same, encourage to "wait it out' since I had so much life crap going on (always do :/), finally this summer put my foot down and told him it is Not working. Staying on Wellbutrin 150, starting Viibryd. Did 60 on Cym for 5 days, just a few brain zaps, then went to 30 and bonnnngggg I am so weirded out. Brain zaps, head echoes, tired, just not good. I am on day 3 of 30 Cymbalta. Doc told me to taper down a week on each dose but my daughter is going to have surgery soon and I don't want to detoxify in the hospital when I need to support her. So I decided to start my 10 dose of the Viibryd today along with the 30 Cymbalta pill. So far I am just still really weirded out from the detox of Cymbalta. Weird dreams, tired but trouble sleeping. *sigh* I need to get a sleep study done but I don't have an overnight sitter. Anyhoo, I am also on a med for thyroid. I don't see a p-doc, just a general and then a psychologist. I love my psych, she is great! I took my pills with a nice big fat/carb/high protein breakfast, took a shower (that was weird) and now am just reading the forums and listening to a wood burning fireplace on youtube. That is relaxing. Hard for me to do anything when I move I get zapped. So chiling for now. I don't work outside the home, both of my kids have special needs and I am single.
I suppose I would take a stab at this tough situation you are in. From my experience, it can be a 30 day process to ween off of a long term SSRI usage. Now that you are taking a new SSRI, it is how to say how the two in combination maybe affecting you. It gets to the point where a psychiatrist is really in the best situation to advise you on what you need to do. Maybe you can do in for just one psychiatrist doctor consult just to talk about the meds and get them straightened out to your satisfaction. Also, for sleep, it would normally not be a big deal to give you some sleep med temporarily to help you through the weening process. Your doctor is moving you over to a new updated popular SSRI, which may bring you improvements you are looking for.
I've been on viibryd for almost a year . I take 40 mg once daily. I want to wean myself off of it , but Im so afraid. My doc told me that I can lower my dosage from 40 to 20.the morning after the twenty mg dose was a nightmare. I felt like I was in a dream, very tried , very bad . I thought I was gonna die, so I took a forty that night. It took a few days to feel "normal" again . I want off of this drug, but I can't handle the withdrawal. I've had withdrawal from cymbalta, paxil, zoloft... But nothing like this drug. I need advice plz
Joe, I've asked my general doc for a referral to a Pdoc and he said I don't need one. He said that I've been able to maintain my depression so he isn't worried, just to keep him apprised. He is a bit slow on the uptake when responding to me. I am very sensitive to meds so I know when my body is doing okay and when not. After resting this morning until about noon I was able to get a few things done, then the zaps were bad again so I have been on the couch watching movies with my kids. I am okay sitting/laying down, just feel thick headed and ready to zap if I move. I am positive the Viibryd 10 helped significantly with the lower withdrawal I am feeling this afternoon, so I will continue the next 2 days on the one pill of 30 Cymbalta and one pill of 10 Viibryd. I have help both days so am hoping this chills out. I can't take sleeping pills because I need to be able to wake up if my daughter chokes during the night, so that was a good idea but not feasible for me. Thanks for the insight. I see my psychologist tomorrow and she is very helpful keeping an eye on me. Steph, I would try to taper more slowly, can you try to go down to 30 instead of 20?
I see better the issue. However, if money is no factor, pick a psychiatrist yourself for a basic consult and say you want to know how to handle this whole process of switching and getting on the right dose. Maybe your psychologist doctor can give you a referral. It just seems to me that you need more help than your own GP doctor and you need peace of mind during this transition.
But, we do know the Viibryd dosage is valid and common, and the whole issue is switching the right way. Some people will have troubles getting off of any SSRI.
I went off Paxil and Lexapro at different time, and I did not notice any ill effects. I did it slow over 20-30 days, cutting pills less and less over time.
In some cases, some people just have a tough and long time to ween and recover to a normal state.
I hope this helps and you can find good solutions.
You got to be brave and cut back slowly, by cutting down the pills into smaller ones, and then, consume maybe more cut downs during the course of a day. So, maybe you take 5-10 mg 3-4 times a day, spread it out, small little pieces, and see how your body adjusts to the cut backs in that way.
I have never had a personal issue going off of Paxel and Lexapro in the past. I don't know how Viibyrd will affect me since it is a new one for me since May. I may be on Viibyrd for 1-2 years and then see where I stand with going off of it.
In my case, my problem is long term GAD and PTSD combined that have created heart palpitations and nervous troubles and insomnia. Hence, that is why I am on Viibryd to deal with those underlying disorders. My heart palpitations ended with Viibryd, which is a great relief to get rid of that.
Best of luck that you can reduce successfully and have good return to normalcy of your brain chemistry.
I wanted to update again, had a rough night sleeping (waking up every hour) but the quality of sleep was better, and I went to bed early. Up at 6am but okay because even with the waking up, it still amounted to about 7 hours (good for me!) My psychologist visit was very productive. After not going for 3 months and falling back into depression hell, we have new goals and I likened her help to a 3 legged stool - I need her help (for accountability of my progress), the medication, along with physical/spiritual home remedies to keep me stable. Will be doing daily journeling, started a mild exercise regime this morning again (short walk and stretching), made myself change clothes and freshen up. It was very very good that I started the 10mg Viibryd pill yesterday with the 30 mg Cymbalta taper, as today the zaps are still frequent but down to a "strong pulse" quality that i can deal with. I am realizing I am having body aches but I think alot of that is being out of shape and sleeping on my couch, and coming off the Cymbalta is aggravating that. I know Cymbalta is also prescribed independently for people for body aches so it could be that was masked for awhile. Focusing on one day at a time, but not having any foreseeable side affects from Viibryd so far. If anything, it's been fantastic in helping the tapering of Cymbalta. This morning I ate a half carton of large curd cottage cheese with the Viibryd pill. Feeling very optimistic. My only other goal for the day, other than caring for my kids, is to get my college stuff submitted. Anything else is gravy! Hope others are doing well! Joe, I am on a fixed income, doing online college full time, a teen son that does online homeschool (he is borderline Aspergers) and a daughter in Kindergarten with high special needs, so I cannot work outside the home. I also don't have a vehicle. I forgot to ask my counselor about a referral to a Pdoc but will try to remember in 2 weeks when I see her again. Thanks for the suggestion!
Sweet city! I have no willpower over them with Vybyrd. And, just for the record, I just called in my refill for the above and my doctor's nurse said to stop taking it. No explanation til' next week. Damn....I was less depressed than ever!
Wellbutrin was the best antidepressant I have ever experienced. Sadly, it is contraindicated with the other medicine I am on but if you can, take it, too. It is wonderful.
Hello Kay. Well, it sounds like some progress, but, obviously it is a difficult progress. As time goes by, it all ought to work out as it is suppose to.
One thing I learned is that these medications do work differently from person to person. Some of it has to do with why is the psyche disorder in existance.
In my case, genetically I inherited an anxiety gene of some sort so that I have had GAD for much of my life. Then, on top of that I had a near death experience that created a Post Tram. Stress Disorder, PTSD, that ultimately pushed to the need for some benzos and SSRIs. My current life is not really that stress full. It is just the hereditary issue with a bad prior life incident, where now in my senior years I found that I needed to have another round of SSRI. So, in my case, Viibyrd is working well and I am happy with it.
I have a great amount of background in psychological affairs and heatlh care, and interacting with psychologists and psychiatrists in my career. But, I am not an actual licensed doctor in that regard, but, nevertheless very well understanding the whole subject and the medications.
In your case, you are on the right track to find self help improvements that are well listed on the internet. There are many things of a natural way to deal with psyche issues. All of them should be tried to one degree or another as they do work.
Make sure you also get vacation time, even it is very short and economical and modest. Everybody has to have a vacation.
Anyway, I hope you can improve and control and cope, and so I wish you the best.
What do you guys mean when you say you are zapped?
Just started Viibryd day 6 at 10mg, went off cold turkey 40 mgs of Prozac, and 50 mgs of Amitriptilene (spelled wrong)..I have been in hell..I'm lightheaded and feeling very aggitated, I kind of feel like I'm crawling out of my skin..But this is the worst part and my main question..I average 4 to 5 migraines a week and can usually get rid of them within 3 to 5 hours..I now have a migraine morning noon and night, has any one else while taking Viibryd, has your migraines increased...Thanks!!
went back to 40 mg of viibryd for 2 weeks after taking 30 mg for a month. Last 3 nights of 40 mg I had really bad nightmares that I could not handle. So now I am back on 30 mg and doing well. I was on Zyban (wellbutrin) to quit smoking back in 2002 and stopped after 5 days because I felt like a zombie and could not think straight or function well at my job. In 2007 I went on Chantix to quit smoking and after a month only took the morning pill because of the bizarre dreams from it. BTW I did quit smoking with the help of the chantix for over 5 years now. Now these dreams from the viibryd were really not just bizarre but total horrible nightmares. Now I am good and happy again.DYIND
susie - zapped, to me, means an electrical shock feeling in my head, as if I could feel the synapses firing at random intervals so strong it feels like a physical electric shock - not pleasant. I also get "pulses", like zaps only muted, but just as annoying when I get 4-5 in rapid succession. I liken the feeling to when you slip down a flight of stairs 3-4 at a time suddenly but then right yourself. You get a rush of adrenaline and experience the 'thump thump thump' of missing the stairs in quick succession, and get that after shock of "whoa!" That is what pulses are like to me, with an electrical zap quality to it.
donna- Donna, I've never had migraines so I can't answer your question :(
barbie- barbie, I also quit tobacco with chantix 10 years ago and am still smoke free. Congrats on your quit! I also had to really cut down the chantix dose, not from dreams although mine were vivid, but from bad anxiety but a low dose still worked for me.
I am on 150 mg buproprion once daily and that works great for me in conjunction with another depression med. I am totally off of the Cymbalta now, it is day 2 totally off and TERRIBLE but I am hoping it subsides now that I am upping my Viibryd to 15mg from 10. I have 2 more days at 15 mg of the Viibryd then will up myself to 20. I am upping in 5 mg doses so i can evaluate how I am doing. The 40 might be too much for me as well. Time will tell. Okay, pulses are bugging me going to rest now. Take care all and best of luck!
MY NAME IS AL MY DOC GAVE V FOR PAXIL WHITCH I WAS ON FOREVER AND I THOUGHT, OK, WHY NOT, GOOD FOR A SHORT TIME. THEN I HAD A LITTLE SET BACK AND HE SAID TAKE 40. OF COURSE I ONLY TOOK 30 TOTAL. REALLY MESSED ME UP. VERY WOUND UP IN CAR, YELLING AT PEOPLE, BUT WORST THING I COULD NOT REMEBER ANYTHING!!! LOST MY CAR FOR 2 HRS IN A MALL! ANY BODY ELSE HAVE THAT PROBLEM? I REALIZE THIS HAS OLD ENTEIES, SO PLEASE EMAIL ME AL xxxxx@xxx {edited for privacy} IF ANYONE HAS SOME OF SAME PROBLEMS!
All, I went on Vii because i was experiencing severe menopause issues, i am 53 and was fatigued, had insomnia, hot flashes and seemed like i was always getting sick! i started with 10 mg, then went to 20 mg, and i seemed good there. my hot flashes went away, slept well, but i began to gain alittle. then my doc raised me to 40 mg, that's when i started to have a few of those horrid nightmares (sleep paralysis, where you can't move but you know you have to, very scary). After two weeks of being on 40 mg, i felt like my overall health wasn't as good as on 20mg, so i dropped back. I occasionally got hot flashes, but was fine otherwise, the DOWNSIDE, I have gained 10 pounds and i CANNOT get it off. I was overweight when i was in 9th grade and have been a size 8 for a long time, i am now a size 12/14 and I can't take it any longer. i tried to wean myself off of it, taking 10 mg a day for 4 days, then 10 mg every other day. i now have a headcold again. So has anyone gotten sick trying to come off vii? i called my doctor and said that maybe i tried coming off of it too quickly, going back to having drainage in my throat and a stuffed up nose seemed way too coincidental with weaning off vii. So i am going to try being on 20 again, going to 15 mg for a week or two, then 10 mg for a week or two and 5 mg? Does anyone else have advice on the best way to wean off of this (i will determine if i can) and whether they get back the same symptoms they had when they decided they needed to go on it! I can't stand the weight gain, if i have to stay on it, what has anyone done to lose weight???????????????
My dr. said he wanted me on this to lose weight. it only took me 9 days to figure out that i was not taking this drug. I am trying to come off of cymbalta, all i can say is listen to your body and come off slowly. I am doing that with cymbalta. The vii made me hungry, manic, bad dreams, sweat and hot and i am not in menopause. I think personally, that this drug it too new, too many side effects are out there that we do not know about. i bet when you get off of it you will start to drop the pounds.
There is definitely a pattern of similar issues with Vii vs other SSRIs. For me, Vii has worked nicely, with 30 mg and really minimal side effect that went away.
All SSRIs can create appetite and over eating as a result, especially if mood improves. It is a major reason people go off of them if they put on weight. It can be battle to control weight, yet, it has to be done somehow to win that battle.
One thing for me is that I used to exercise a lot more before going on this drug, but, I have felt less interested and motivated to break a sweat. I am also more ambivalent towards sex libido, yet, it is hard to say if the Vii is a factor since that can be a complicated story anyway for other reasons.
As for the memopause issues, that is a new one on me where a SSRI directly affects that, but maybe so if hormones are not being made due to changed chemistry of the brain.
I do recommend that people go very slow on stopping, with cutting the pills down smaller and smaller and take 3-4 weeks to go down to zero.
I know that I have to be on a SSRI for my kind of genetic predisposition and PTSD incident that rattled me really bad. I may need to be on this to 2014 at least or something like it. Thankfully, I can well tolerate this rx, but I can see many cannot do so.
So, this drug seems not meant for everybody.
Hello all, I am new to this discussion but wanted to offer my experience so far on Viibryd. I suffer from general anxiety disorder and depression. I have tried Paxil, Zoloft and Celexa (Celexa was the best, however it pooped out on me after 2 1/2 years). I am on my 3rd day of transitioning from 40 mg Celexa to 10 mg of Viibryd. Basically I started off with half the dose of Celexa (20 mg) in the morning, and then take the 10 mg of V with lunch or dinner. I have taken it with food each time. I don't feel any different, and barely any side effects. Light headaches in the evenings, more "movement" in the bathroom area but nothing uncomfortable. I have no appetite so I am not eating very much (which is fine with me as I don't want to gain weight). I haven't had any dizziness or stomach cramps as others report. I was slightly nauseas this morning, but everything makes me nauseas so I honestly don't know if it was the V or not. One more thing - I am a social drinker and I had a few of Mike's Hard Lemonades last night, as I was curious if I would have any bad side effects from alcohol, but other then a headache I was fine. I will continue to keep you posted on this...it's only the 3rd day so I realize that isn't enough time to assess. Thank you for all the information - it really helped me make my decision on if I should take this drug or not.
Hi there - I wanted to say that I have had more headaches on Viibryd then with the other medicines. I have migraines as well and this drug seems to exacerbate the headaches, however I'm able to get rid of them with regular aspirin. Sorry you are suffering from that, but I am told they will go away with time. I'm on the 10mg of V and on day 3. Have gotten a headache every day since I started.
