Going to start it tomorrow. Anyone else taking it, and if so, how do you like it?

Thanks!

I just started VIIBRYD this morning....I was on Zyprexa (the mother of all weight gain drugs) for 6 weeks and gained 12 pounds! I'm hoping VIIBRYD will help w/depression and not pack on the pounds. I'm reading some very interesting comments from you guys that you're actually gaining weight and feeling lethargic; exactly the opposite of what my therapist told me would happen so I'm a little concerned. Guess I'll wait and see. Good luck to all of you!

I just started taking Viibryd on last night after meeting with my counselor on Tuesday and she suggesting I see my GYN to have my hormones evaluated before starting any therapy. I have tried Zoloft, after having my second child and took myself off medication believing I didn't require any. I next tried Lexapro after starting school with severe anxiety attacks and stopped as I thought it was not working. The last ditch effort was last year when I started school again and was going through a tough spot in marriage. I was placed on Effexor XR. Initially it worked well but then it just stopped after taking it for three months. This has been a 13 year roller coaster ride for me and I have dealt pretty much with issues as I do everything else just walk through it until I come to my final destination, but now my cup has runneth over and I really need to stop fooling myself that I don't have a problem which has been given a Dx of Major Depression. I hope this drug works because I have seen a lot of negative comments. As I said I started taking the medication last night and had a 30 minute bout of diarrhea afterwards. I already deal with diarrhea after each meal since my gallbladder was removed now it has intensified. I can get through that. I got up this morning about the same time as usual and didn't have any sleep disturbance on last night. I have found that it has not allowed me to lay back in bed as usual. Do that is a definite plus for me. Feel a little upbeat and motivated today. i don't know if it's the medicine beginning to work or me wanting it to work. I am on the starter pack and hoping transition will be smooth. Thanks to everyone for the information whether a good or bad experience. All information is useful during a transition period and starting a new medicine is hard enough. Hope everyone is feeling better...

Rabia, I feel sorry for your patients. And the fact that you are learning about a drug from a depression forum says a lot about your follow up training when a new drug comes out. I can only hope you don't laugh at your patients when they come to you with the horrible side effects they suffer. People come here for support not to be laughed at. Take your judgements elsewhere.

I agree with you Opinions to yourself. This so called psychiatrist must not be very good in his role in providing people with the encouragement they need. Then to look on a forum for information is horrible. I feel sorry for your patients and even sorrier for you Rabia.

Weight gain and joint pain. Otherwise, it does help with depression.

I've been on the starter pack and today is my first day on the 40mg. I haven't really had any bad side effects at all other than some loose stools. I posted earlier when I was I was on day four and will continue to post. I feel better as far as the depression but my social anxiety doesn't seem much better. Has anyone else been prescribed this drug for social anxiety? Or what drug did work for you?

Thanks for all the support.

My first week, I woke up up around 4 am every morning. I think its because I was hungry because by the time I got up around 7 or 8, my stomach was completely empty. The empty stomach used to be with feelings of nausea and lots of burping the last week I was on Citalopram. I don't know if waking up at 4 with a funny feeling stomach was the Viibryd or me after quitting Citalopram. However, I stopped waking up at that time for a few days until last night. I woke up at 3 and my heart felt a bit fast..restless mind as well. Good luck to you

When you drank, were you effected the next day? Or were you effected 2 days later as well? I woke up this morning, nauseous for the first time on Viibryd, and threw up the breakfast I ate. I drank 2nights ago. I've only been on it for 2 weeks and am on the 20mg dosage. I have not had any side effects except lots of burping and gas in my stomach yesterday and the throwing up this morning. These were effects I had daily when I was trying to get off of Citalopram. Glad to know that when you stopped drinking, it got better.

I'm doing pretty well stepping down 10mgs every week. I'm down to 10 now and I think I will just stay here for awhile.

What happened with your experience with muscle and joint pain? I have been taking this drug (40 mg.) for over six months and have had pretty severe pain in my elbow and wrist and hips starting about a month ago. I want to taper off.

Thank you everyone for these comments...so very helpful and informative. I came to this forum today because I have been suffering from extremely severe insomnia. I absolutely cannot fall asleep until 1-3 hours, even after taking Xanax. I take Somnote in combination with Xanax for sleep and eventually it knocks me out but I have to keep taking more and more to get to sleep. Long, long story...I am bipolar II. I was basically put into a med coma but my last careless doctor who didn't know what to do with me and therefore increased ALL my meds at once. So I was completely exhausted and drowsy from the nine meds I was on and decided to take myself off some of them, one including Viibryd. I actually seemed fine at first but started feeling depressed and unmotivated. I got so depressed that all I wanted to do was sleep and lay in bed. Even as a bipolar II person, I have rarely felt like that. I knew something was wrong, so I went back on it about two weeks ago. Since then my mood has improved and I do feel better but I absolutely cannot sleep. I am also feeling severe joint and muscle pain as some folks have mentioned. At first I thought it was just from when I did yoga, but the yoga is helping, not hurting. I am seeing a different doctor now but he is very mean and not helpful at all. I told him I was anxious and depressed, and he told me to "grow up." Completely abusive. I have to wait until the 9th to see a new doc and I pray to God that something is going to change because I am miserable. I tried to take half a 40mg pill but still I am tired. I take it at night and I can't sleep then I am drowsy all day long. I take it during the day and I am still drowsy. I can't win either way. I am so frustrated. I have taken just about everything else out there, old and new. And I really do mean everything. Viibryd works for me but it makes me unstable because I am always irritable because I am so tired all the time. I can barely function. Has anyone else had these experiences? I want to get off of it but I also do not want to lay in bed and sleep all day. :( I wish you all the best and really appreciate all the feedback I have received today so thank you and take care everyone.

If I am not mistaken Viibryd should not prescribed for bi-polar.
Today, due to on gong joint pain, I decided to take half of the 40mg. I took it later than usual, around 4:00 pm, so that it is in my system while I sleep. (I had sleep paralysis when I forgot to take one pill a few months ago.)
I, too, cannot sleep when a take the whole 40 mg. I toss around all night. I have had insomnia for most of my adult life, but Viibryd makes it worse.
Initially, I was doing so well and felt so much better, when I was not yet up to the 40mg dose. I think that it may be too much for people.

I began taking Viibryd 8 weeks ago. I worked my way up to 40 mg. Doctor gave me free samples for month 1 and free samples for month 2. I noticed about 2 weeks ago that my hair was looking strange. Went to hairdreser and she told me my hair was frizzing up and breaking off 2 to 3 centimeters from the root all through my scalp where new growth should be occurring. My hair looks normal. My scalp looks completely fuzzy. I am not pulling out strands of hair or appearing to lose it..it's dying at the root instead. I got curious and searched the Internet and landed here. I wanted to share my story for those of you losing your hair....you're not wrong. Something in this drug is causing it. I've had long beautiful hair for a long long time...until Viibryd. And I was appreciating the effects of the drug...until I saw my fuzzy hair arrive about 2 weeks ago. Now I want off of it and am being cautioned to wean off....not go cold turkey. Going cold turkey with this medication can cause seizures. If you quit....do it the smart way. If it's working for you...guard your hair!!

I'm down to 10mgs and I'm going to try to go off completely. Does anyone know if I should go down further before stopping? Maybe it's just because I'm among people posting about problems but it seems like there are a lot of them with this drug. I never had such problems with Lexapro -- although I have gained the dreaded 15 lbs after 15 years. Maybe it will fall off if I get off all these SSRIs.

I have been on vii for a month and the side effects got worse this past week. Face started to go numb and vomiting. Dr. told me to wean off it by taking it every other day. I was only on 5mg. He said to do it for two weeks. But the days I take it I feel horrible compared to the days I am off it. Do you think I could go off it cold turkey since it is such a low dose?

Been on Viibryd for only 10 days. Doctor gave me the 1 month starter pack. I can't sleep at all. I lay awake all night, even with some sleep aids. Took a 10 mg ambien and it helped me get 4 hours but this is ridiculous. I noticed some hair loss as well. This was such a short time to take this med, it's not working for me. I think I need to stop it and try something else. I have never had depression before but I have a ton of stressors in my life (new job, relocating, pregnant wife, away from family - all at once). Doc gave it to me and said it wasn't addictive and I could stop taking it easily. Well, after reading all the comments here that doesn't seem to be the case. Wow, talk about misinformation. Better stop it now. Funny too because my doc was hesitate to give me Xanax because it can be additive yet I wasn't taking it daily and it help ease my mind and sleep. Ambien doesn't work that well for me. This insomnia is brutal. Good luck to others if its working but if I can't sleep now there is no way I'm taking 20 or 40 of this.

Hey Infinise.... I hate to give medication advice but I'm weaning myself off of this drug and my sleeping ability is far far worse....but I'm convinced that on it it was horrific. I'd easily fall asleep...then 2 hours later wake up..and be WIDE AWAKE for hours.....then be at work the next day falling asleep. It really messed me all up on the sleeping part. Additionally my hair is not falling out..it is breaking off at the new growth. IE spiraly and like straw...I have baby hairs growing out that are growing out weak and damaged. That's a bit scary. Good luck to all. If a medication is working...great I'm all for it for those that it works for.
