## how much sulfur is in sulfameth/trimethoprim? ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is a generic for the antibiotic Bactrim, which is used to treat various types of infections. And in regards to this question, there really isn't sulfur in it, per se… what it really means is that this is a sulfa based drug, or it's derived from it... and the amount of sulfa based material in it is equivalent to the amount of Sulfamethoxazole that's in it. Learn more Bactrim details here. To put it a little more simply for future readers, if you have a sensitivity to sulfa or are allergic to it, then you should not take this antibiotic as there is a very high likelihood that you will also have a bad reaction to it. Are there any questions or comments?

I have an abscess tooth will this medication work for this or is it used for a abscess tooth? Sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 tabs ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic, it's a generic for Bactrim, so it may help with the infection that causes an abscess, but that will only be a temporary fix. When you have an abscessed tooth, there has to be an underlying cause, such as a cavity and this will not fix that, so you will still need to see a dentist, or it will just eventually return. And since this a sulfa based antibiotic, which you can learn more Bactrim usage details on here, it may cause some side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. It can also cause an allergic reaction in some people, which may manifest as a fever, hives and d...

Was prescribed sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 for infection in thumb. Was to take it for 10 days but on 8 day developed an itchy rash - should I continue to take it. I am not allergic to any medications. Can I take benadryl to help? ## No, once you get the itchy rash from this it means that most likely you are allergic to it and things will only get worse if you continue taking it and there is the risk of your developing much more dangerous reactions. Learn more Bactrim details here. Benadryl may help in the meantime, until it starts to clear up, if it's safe for you to take it. But you also need to contact your doctor and let them know, they may wish to prescribe an alternative antibiotic. Learn more Benadryl details here. I've been taking this drug 2x a day, since 6/1/2011. It was prescribed to treat an infection,of the prostate or lower organ, not sure. Since starting on med, I initially realized a change in how I felt. Glands in my neck shoulders and,up through my head felt sore. I felt giddy or antsy! My fist night on taking drug, I felt uneasy and, only slept a few hours! Next, I felt chills and then started experiencing serious intermitent acheing pain, mostly in my left arm and deltoid muscle shoulder! Since starting on the med, I've had episodes of heavy sleep, chills, waking up in the morning bed clothes soaked, T-shirt and pillow from a fever or chills!I've got about another few days of pills before I use them up! Taken sulfameth trimethoprim 800/160 tabs started 3 days ago went to ER my hands & arms small bumps as if a insect bite had some sting. While there they gave me a shot of Bactrim DS 800/160. And taken the pill form. My question why am I still itching? And I take Rx on time ## What did the ER doctor say caused the bumps and itching? Bactrim is an antibiotic and it is commonly used to prevent or treat infections. However, if the bumps, stinging and itching were caused by an allergic reaction to something, then this will not treat that. In addition, it can cause a non-allergic skin rash as a side effect. ## I just came from the Dr regarding the Sulfameth. .took it 3 days ago and i got all these tiny bumps all over me!! my skin got blotchy.. I asked pharmacist he said its nothing to wor...

Is there an interaction between sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 tabs and methotrexate 25mg/ml inj, 2ml mdv ## My findings state that there are potentially unsafe interactions between these two drugs. Quoted below are the precautions you should be aware of: "Ask your doctor before using methotrexate and sulfamethoxazole. This can increase the methotrexate levels in your body. This can cause pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness, mouth sores, nausea, vomiting, black or bloody stools, and urinating less than usual or not at all. If you take both medications together, tell your doctor if you have any of these symptoms. You may need a dose adjustment or special test to safely take both medications. Alternative antibiotic therapy, if available, is generally recommended. It...

I cant get to the dentist as have hpspital appointment tomorrow. I have some trimethoprim left from a urinary inection last year, can I use these til the Thursday or Friday when I can go to the dentist. Or should I just wait..worried it will get worse. ## Actually, it isn't likely to help, because Trimethoprim has a very small number of bacteria that it is effective at treating and they are not usually the ones that cause such dental infections. I have cold for last one week, and it's getting worth. I have mussle ach, throat pain, and a little fever. Does Sulfameth Trimethoprim work for such symptons? ## Hi AJ, Sorry to say, but Antibiotics in general will not work for colds, flu, and other viral infections. For such symptoms I would suggest looking into more natural alternatives, such as: Raw Honey + Tea - for throat pain/inflammation Lavender Essential Oil - for any muscle aches Plenty of water + Fruits & Veggies - for the fever Many fruits and Vegetables have natural healing properties that can help get your body's temp back to normal in very little time at all (if this is all you're eating for the most part). I also believe the therapeutic properties of honey, tea, and lavender will be of great benefit. I ho...

I'm having constritures of my tendons in ankles is this normal. Felt like tendon was as tight as rubberband and going to break for like ten mins. First the left outside ankle then the rt. outside ankle began. ## No, that is not normal and could be the sign of a potentially dangerous reaction to this medication. Learn more Bactrim details here. You should contact your doctor immediately to get an alternative antibiotic. This is a sulfa based drug and it can cause odd reactions in some people that take it. Hi there. I've been taking 200mg Trimethoprim for 9 months once a day and was lucky enopugh to have no side effects. Recently my dosage has increased to one tablet twice a day, usally the morning and evening so that males 400mg? Since then I've been feeling dizzy. Is that a common side effect? My leaflet that came with the medication just talks about skin rashes.... ## Yes, you can pretty much count on the possibility of dizziness being a side effect of virtually any medication. It's just the nature of them, because you are basically adding a chemical to your body to fix a problem. Learn more Trimethoprim details here. It should wear off after a few weeks pass and your body adjusts to the medication. Has it improved any?

can you take sulfameth/th/trimethoprim 800 160 with meloxicam 7.5.. I am taking it for a sinus infection and cough, but my costachondritis has flared up and wanted to take meloxicam ## My findings state that there are in fact interactions between these two drugs. Posted below are the precautions you should be aware of: "Coadministration with inhibitors of CYP450 2C9 may theoretically increase the plasma concentration (potency) of meloxicam. The clinical significance is unknown. The potential for an interaction should be considered during concomitant use." Based on the info above, I would recommend talking to your doctor before going through with taking the meloxicam, just to play it safe. I hope this info helps. Can the rash show up days after taking this Medicine and how long will it take to go away. ## Yes, it certainly can. I've experienced it myself. Mine showed up 9 days into a 10 day course and it lasted for about 2 weeks. Learn more Bactrim details here. Once you get the rash with this antibiotic, you should stop taking it and you should make sure that your doctor and pharmacy lists it among you allergies, because there is a very high chance of experiencing more severe reactions in the future if you were to take it again. This antibiotic is very bad for causing such problems very late into the course of treatment. How bad is the rash?

Can you use this medicine for a sinus infection where you are bringing up green phlegm? ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim, the active ingredients in Bactrim, is an antibiotic that can be used to treat many types of infections. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, skin rash and diarrhea. Learn more: However, if this is medication that you had left over, because you didn't finish it all to treat some other infection that it was prescribed for, you should know that it is never a good idea to do that. It creates the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. A partial prescription of left over medications is probably not going to be enough to provide you with a full course of the antibiotic for this infection. Thus, you should really see a doctor. trying to find if echinacea and goldenseal can be taken with sulfameth trimethoprim+ ## Unfortunately, since Echinacea and Goldenseal are both natural herbal products, they actually haven't been tested for possible interactions with prescription medications And to be honest, if it were me, I wouldn't combine anything else with the Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim, just to be extra cautious. As a sulfa based antibiotic, it's very well known to cause odd side effects in people, even if they aren't allergic to it, so I'd be very hesitant to take it with any medications that aren't life sustaining/necessary. I have many of the side effects of Sulfameth Trimethoprim. Muscle aches, loss of appetite, dizziness, nausea.
