Timing For Lisinopril To Take Effect

How long does it take for a low dose of lisinopril to start lowering blood pressure?
doctor increased my dosage of my Lisinopril from 20mg to 30mg. I haven't noticed any change yet. I started taking the new dosage a week ago and I still have the symptoms as when I was taking the 20mg. I was feeling very tired, dizzy and major anxiety and my bp was very high. My doctor thought my bp was causing my symptoms
Re: Robbie (# 16)
How long does it take for a full affect? I take the 10 mg of lisinopril
Re: Carol (# 2)
I had a doctor tell me the same thing. I looked this up because mine is spiking extra high this month so I was glad to find your question. I add a little to my dose. I only take 2.5 normally but tonight I am starting with 5 mg. My dr said I can add some of need be.
Re: Suki (# 4)
I just started taking a 5mg last night, after dinner. Why change the time? It seems like night time, would be when the medication is most effective. My blood pressure was 126/66 the next morning. I also work out on a regular basis.
Re: Paul (# 26)
Oh, no I actually meant blood sugar, I was drawing a comparison to people who don't feel well with a normal blood sugar after running high for a while. Anyway, my blood pressure has not actually been lowered by the lisinopril, so they added now 3 other drugs. I feel much better, but they are checking out some possible causes of secondary hypertension.
Re: Willy (# 14)
Chances are the diabetes is the reason for the extremities feeling cold. Diabetes unfortunately causes vascular problems and she is probably getting less than optimal blood flow to her hands and feet. The blood pressure is a little on the low side but not too low. Many people have natural blood pressures about the same.
Re: Sarah (# 25)
Tx for your input.
I presume you mean blood PRESSURE (not “sugar”)...
I would be very interested to see how things work out for you after 8 weeks. Like I said below, I gave up after 2 weeks because I really couldn’t take the “brian fog” that accompanied the meds. You said you experience that too so it will be good to know if your body (and brain!) acclimatizes to it after that time...
Please post an update then!
Re: Paul (# 18)
This sounds a lot like people who feel bad when their blood sugar is lowered to a normal range, I am experiencing the same, but planning to tough it out for 8 weeks as suggested. By then, my body should be used to normal pressure again.
Re: Willy (# 15)
Yes, and I read a study somewhere it is renoprotective unrelated to bp, and at low doses. I was on 2.5 mg for almost 10 years before I had to have the dose upped for bp issues.
Re: Jenn (# 6)
I think 180 is considered a hypertensive crisis, you should definitely call your doctor. I have taken lisinopril for years though and I think this is individual whether it will work for you.
My blood pressure today when I went to the doctor was 160/116. I started looking on the internet for what is considered normal. Freaked the **** out of me. My arm is still slightly numb from the time they took my blood pressure earlier today and my pinky on that arm feels numb as well. The doctor was very direct at saying it was imperative I pick up the prescription today and begin taking it today. And just my luck, CVS's prescription system went down nationwide all day up until 4 pm so my doctor had to resend it. It was finally ready at 10:30 PM and I just took my first dose. Hope it works as quick as everyone is saying because I cannot remember a time I was that shaken after going to the doctor. I think it was definitely his sense of urgency. He said he would send a script for a qty. of 90 for mail order as well as my other typical medication but he said he was sending this specific prescription to the pharmacy right away. After looking at what normal BP is I freaked out even more!
Re: Sean (# 7)
I also just started on it today my Bp was 178/98 I took a 10mg tablet at 11:30 am and now 6 hours later my Bp was 141/91
Re: Willy (# 15)
Yes lisinipril is used to protect the kidneys maybe have doc lower the dose I know this is an older post hope all is well
Can I take another lisinopril 5mg if the first dose is not working very well for my high blood pressure?
Update:
I continued for two weeks at the half dose (just 2.5mg) and my blood pressure stayed within the desirable range of between 115/74 to 120/80. However for me the side effects of feeling in a "stupor", having slow thought processes, delayed reactions etc. just became too much. I stopped taking it and now, while my BP is back up to what was "my normal" of around 135/85, I feel a LOT better.
I will try to work harder on the whole diet and exercise thing and may try a (prescription) diuretic as I hear they've been around longest and have less side effects, but I'm done with Lisinopril..
I would say Extremely Fast - just a matter of hours...
My BP was just above the "marginal" range (where it had been for as long as I remember - at least the last 20 years..).At a general check up I had a new doc who didn't like some of the readings I had at her office (153/103) and asked me to monitor at home over 3 weeks. Most of these "at home" readings were in the 82-92 / 120-136 ranges. - what I consider "normal" for me (and taken with a new "Omron" arm cuff type machine). Still she recommended I try to get it down further and prescribed Lisinopril saying I could come off it if it didn't work out. I said I'd give it a try..
I just started last night It was 5MG - apparently a very low dose, even for my 200lb weight. For 2 hours before I went to bed I didn't feel any different. Off to bed I went. Some noise woke me about 5 hours later. As I turned in the bed I felt like my limbs had weights attached to them and very "woozy". I fell back to sleep but the next morning I woke up feeling completely "out of it" - wobbly, almost like a drunk feeling and almost bumping into door frames etc. My brain also seemed to be working in slow motion..
I took my BP and it was 106/74!!! (down from 133/92 the same time the day before)
I'd NEVER seen it that low and it worried me that such a small dose could "work" that quick and be that potent. (especially having read somewhere that it could take weeks to make a noticeable difference..)
The rest of the day it gradually crept up and I felt more "normal. It leveled off at 118/78, where it is now, almost 24hrs later...
I'm halving my dose for tonight..
I don't know if mine was a typical reaction or not, but if Lisinopril is new to you I'd approach with caution and ask about starting on an even smaller dose than I did.
I just started on 10mg. Was 172/94 but fears rate was 112. I told the dr she had me freaked out about my BP being high. They put me on a low does. 3rd day in and I was 125/84 with HR of 74. So it seems to be working. I had no idea my BP was high. No headaches. No blurry vision. Etc. I feel better, prob just knowing my BP has dropped closer to "normal" as a 39 year old man.
I forgot to say that when the Doctor prescribed Lisinopril to my wife He said it was to protect her Kidneys and not because She had high blood pressure, It was most for her Diabetic condition. It is true that Lisinopril can be used for this Kidney protection?
My wife is taking lisinopril 10 mg for several years and now she is felling cold frequently , I measured the blood pressure and is 110/60. I touched the fingers and toes and are cold. She is diabetic 2 taken Janumet 50/1000. I think lisinopril is lowering the blood pressure to much
150/77? That's more anxiety than high bp. The 77 is optimal. were you nervous when they took it? Seems like the 150 would come down on it's own. Fast heart rate would raise the systolic
