Hello doctor I'm 28 years old in my 13th week of 1st pregnancy. My doc has advised me to take gestin 5 mg tablets thrice a day. I was taking hcg5000 injections before twice a week. I just wanted to know the reason for high dose of gestin and any side effects I should expect. And just borderline thyroid. Rest I'm healthy. ## Hi, Aditi! How are you? Gestin contains a synthetic form of the hormone progesterone, which is vital to a healthy pregnancy and being able to carry a baby to full term. Thus, your doctor is just trying to ensure that you have enough of it to carry the baby for the full 9 months. Side effects may include nausea, headache, mood swings and irritability. Is there anything else I can help with? Are there any other questions or concerns? ## hai, I am having pregnan...

Hi, I am a 36 yr old female. I started noticing hair loss and brain fog about 2 years ago. I finally had my thyroid tested and Dr said it was on low end of normal so prescribed 25 levothyroxine. No change in symptoms so increased to 50 things seemed to become more stable. Then retested about a month ago and increased me to 75. Have been feeling really weird in my head, like my head is floating/just off, hard to describe plus hair loss got worse. Dr said to go back to 50. My question is...is there something natural I can take instead of prescription drugs. I feel like my symptoms are not that horrible that I want to be on meds forever but there is so much confusing info/products out there its hard to know what is safe. Don't have any issues with energy or weight. I exercise daily. ##...

Hi, Im 15 and have been taking Levothyroxine 50mcg for over 3 years. When my doctor first old me that my thyroid was not working properly he said that it was overactive, he said something about it being at either 5 or 500. I'm not really sure. I do know that levithyroxine is for underactive thyroid though so I assume he meant I had an underactive and not overactive. I have several aunts that are on levothyroxine for underactive thyroid glands. I was told when I first started the medicine that I would lose weight when my thyroif began working properly. I have only gained weight since than. My doctor didn't really tell me how to take the medicine or what to take with it or really anything about it. The only thing he said was to take it in the morning before school. He has only che...

I am scheduled for a surgery next week, a surgery unrelated to my thyroid. I have read somewhere the dosage of desiccated thyroid should be temporarily reduced in times of stress. Can anyone advise me of exactly how this should be done? ## Hi 63roses, With any prescription medication, it is usually advised that one speak with a doctor before making any changes to the dosage. If you aren't able to see your doctor I would just be sure to tell your surgeon (and nurses) that you are taking the desiccated thyroid medication, before your surgery. There is a chance you may need to stop using the medication for a short amount of time. I imagine that your surgeon will be able to give you some instructions if need be. Does anyone else have information to add regarding this topic?

Going on the 50 wasn't too bad,,just mild anxiety. Then on 75mcg, I started to feel fluttery around my heart, and a bit panicky.I wrote my doctor and told her I wouldn;t continue on the two alterating. I would jut be able to take the 50mcg,as I was going out of the country on a tripand needed to feel peaceful. So , on my own, I took the 50mcg for about three weeks....still had constant uneasy, jittery feeling,,,so I went off all;;on my own.three weeks ago. Still fee a bit jittery, and 'fluttery' like butterflies in the stomach. How long will these symptoms last? Am I in withdrawl from withdrawing too fast? I plan to see my doctor soon ## It's difficult to say, but yes that could be it. The changing of doses kind of had your hormones wavering, then you stopped taking it, wh...

So I am at my wits end here. Last year I was diagnosed hypothyroid after my TSH was at 3.4 and was instantly put on 50 mcg of levothyroxine. Ever since around that time, I had crazy bouts of vertigo and dizziness, hot flashes, heart palpitations, high blood pressure (never had that before), terrible migraines calves are cramping and I have had pretty much ever test done known to man. MRI with contrast was normal, Echo was normal, Holter monitor was normal, ENT VNG test was normal, chest xray normal, various of blood tests done (most showing how unstable my TSH numbers are)now I am having a tilt table test done because they think its due to Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia!!! why has Sandoz currently experiencing a "production" problem with their levothyroxine. Afer Levoxyl was taken away (I had taken this for twenty years and could not take Synthroid) the Sandoz worked perfectly. What is going on? ## Hi, Kat! Sorry about the problem that you're having getting your medication. However, no actual reason for the shortages have been provided. The companies aren't actually required to state that information. Learn more Levothyroxine details here. I sincerely wish I had more information for you, but I am not finding any details. I had 2 different pills. A white one and a pink one. I think I got them mixed up. Was suppose to take two 25mcg per day til gone. Then just one 50mcg per day. Please tell me which is which. Thank you. ## Hi, Granny! How are you? I'm sorry, but I can't tell you anything about them from just the colors, because they don't actually mean anything. Can you please post back with the markings on the tablets in question? If so, I can look them up for you to check the dosages. ## This one is pink with an M on one side and L 4 on the other. I have been on Levothyroxine for about 11 years with no problems until I was diagnosed with dry eyes about 4 years ago. I was complaining of an ache in my right eye and was given the dry eye diagnosis. As the ache continued to get worse, I finally pressed Kaiser to give me an MRI (a total of 3 now), and they found nothing to cause the ache. Finally did some research, found the eye-Levothyroxine connection and have taken myself off the med & replaced it with appropriate herbs. I feel much better, but would like to know how long the Levothyroxine will remain in my system. ## Hi, Patricia! I have celiac disease and my endo doc recently switched me from Levoxyl to Synthroid. I have read that Synthroid is not guaranteed to be gluten free. Anyone have the answer? ## They both contain the active ingredient Levothyroxine, so you really haven't been switched from one medication to another, your doctor just used a different name brand for it. As to whether or not it is gluten free, that's going to depend on which one you receive from your pharmacy. Do you know if they usually give you the name brand or a generic?
