Reducing Desiccated Thyroid Before A Surgery

I am scheduled for a surgery next week, a surgery unrelated to my thyroid. I have read somewhere the dosage of desiccated thyroid should be temporarily reduced in times of stress. Can anyone advise me of exactly how this should be done?

Hi 63roses,

With any prescription medication, it is usually advised that one speak with a doctor before making any changes to the dosage.

If you aren't able to see your doctor I would just be sure to tell your surgeon (and nurses) that you are taking the desiccated thyroid medication, before your surgery. There is a chance you may need to stop using the medication for a short amount of time. I imagine that your surgeon will be able to give you some instructions if need be.

Does anyone else have information to add regarding this topic?
