Taking Subutex And Percocet Together (Page 19) (Top voted first)

My doctor just put me on subutex along with percocet. I've been on percocet for yrs for severe and chronic migraines. He told me to take the subutex and if it doesn't work to take a percocet. I usually take 15 mg percocet at a time. I've read some stuff online that worries me. Some people say if you take percs with subutex you'll go into withdrawals. I went through severe withdrawals with fioricet months ago and I don't want to go through that hell again. I took my first subutex about an hour ago and I still have a migraine so I want to take a perc now. Can I do that or will I get sick?

That's not entirely true and that's how I've lost a few friends. When they relapsed they tried to take their usual dose which was entirely too much.

I never said it wasn't a blocked it's self and I have done what u said to-do plenty tines every reacts different. Back to simple science do one or the other. And u get sick take more and watch the withdrawal go away fast. I've lived it pal

I've been reading all these posts and don't quite understand everything. I am prescribed 30 mg oxy 3 x day. I have addiction issues basically cause I've been on these meds for 7 years. Because I tend to take too many, my bf took my script when he went out of town and only left my prescribed dose. Well of course I ran out, but I have an 8 mg bupe. If I take a tiny piece of it will I get deathly I'll?

Also wanted to say I just had a nerve block Thursday so I feel worse than normal. AND I wish I didn't have to take meds because I know I'm using recreationally as well ad medically at this point. None of that matters, just nice being able to post to people who understand.

DEEK: I've not only lived it (30+ year opioid addict as well as med student/researcher), I've researched it and have had my fellow addiction specialists laugh at it. As for the rest of your response, maybe you could re-write it and actually make it coherent this time, because I have no idea what any of that means. As far as your previous post, I sincerely hope no one on here takes your bad advice.

You can't go into withdrawals from taking opiates with subutex. It just isn't possible, these people must be confused. You will get sick from suboxone if you take opiates with it, not subutex..Because suboxone has naloxone in it which pushes all of the opiates out of your brain receptors and subutex doesn't.

Oxymorphone is also called Opana and they are very hard to get. Doctors don't like prescribing them because they are extremely strong and abused. The effects are also very short acting. Buprenorphine isn't strong in a way that makes you feel high.

Your receptors can't physically hold more than 24 mg of Buprenorphine at a time so you are wasting your meds if you are taking more than three 8mg a day. Just thought I should let you know.

Kkh.. I'm just saying you must be confused.. maybe you were taking suboxone instead of subutex. I have been on high doses of both subutex and suboxone for years and have never experienced withdrawal from the subutex.. jeez don't get mad because someone disagrees with you.

Hello i'm new to the forum. I had back surgeries that required oxycodone and i have been taking 2 5/325 pills 2 to 3x a day, for about 4 years. When i hear about others addiction i think i'm not taking much but i can tell it has affected my personality and i want to be healthy again. I don't feel high on them but it does help my pain. I also got diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago and had to have a bi-lateral mastectomy. Before that i caught c-diff (antibiotic resistant bacteria) and i was sick for a year with that. On top of it my partner had cancer at the same time and he died a year ago. Just before he died my little brother OD'd, he was 40. I've lived like a hermit for the past several years. I hardly leave my apt and just function. I have a 9 year old son and i'm sure i can be better for him if i get off ALL of the meds. I also take xanax .5mg to sleep at night and i've been on that for 10 years. When i got diagnosed with cancer my oncologist put me on 450 mg of wellbutrin so i'm still taking that too.

I just found this forum and thought maybe it might help to discuss it. I only have 2 percocets left and the last time i took them was yesterday morning (took 2 5/325). I do have subs and i tried that for the first time yesterday 8mg under tongue but i guess i still had too much percocet in my body and i threw up all day long. I feel better today though i'm still in bed. I'm afraid to take another sub because i got so sick and i'm thinking i should just go cold turkey from here. I realize i have another problem with the xanax but one thing at a time. Any advice?

seen your post and even tho its almost a month old I wanted to reply and give any good advice that I could. you need to quit taking the percocet atleast 3 days before starting your suboxzones or it will prolly make u sick. I have been on suboxzones for 4 yrs and they have changed my life so much. I actually have a life now. I had a very bad opiate addiction for several yrs. but you can also become dependent on the suboxzones too so take the good with the bad I guess. hope this helps. and good luck!!

I have had a similar situation where I have long-term prescription use not as much as you have been on they're not to cause drastic withdrawals if I just stop taking the medication. I recommend waiting a couple days until the first signs of withdrawal 1st signs start to kick in like runny nose, the shakes restless leg syndrome and bubble gut that's when you start taking subs right before you get nauseous this way you know you're not too bad but have a good feeling that it's out of your system trust me you'll know it'll feel like a truck hit you it will feel like you have the flu in your skin crawls right when that feeling comes that's when you take the subs and only take a small amout at first like a quarter or a half see how you feel Within half hour to an hour if symptoms don't subside take the other half. First time I took Subs I took the whole sublingual film underneath my tongue and it made me sicker than a dog I took too much sub to start off start off slow and then work up and then cut up the rest of the strip take it and quarters than 8 and 16 throughout throughout a week or two once a day twice a day weaning off and you'll be good as new, just don't look back

MARIE: You wouldn't need to stop the Percocets 3 days before starting Bupe. 24-36 hours would be sufficient. Methadone is really the only opioid that would require 3 days, since it takes for-freaking-ever to get out of your system.

From my own personal experience I used to b a full blown opiate user until I hut rock bottom and decided I was done with the pain pills so I got on suboxone and then was later switched to subutex after getting pregnant and while breast feeding. I have personally mixed both myself and not had the god awful effects of with drawls vs the nightmare I had after taking suboxone too soon after pain pills so I could definitely tell a difference. I honestly tho think every individual is different and some may be bothered by it when others aren't. I agree tho about I don't see the point in taking a pain pill right after you have taken subutex or suboxone since the whole purpose of those 2 are to keep u from wanting to do the pain pills. But everyone is different so my only advice would be not to listen to what others think, feel or have experienced because that don't mean u will have the sane effects.

SWEETPEA: I imagine you were probably on a fairly low dose of Bupe. It seems to be the higher doses, where people have a problem. The higher the dose, and the sooner they were taken together, the worse it is. By higher I mean anything over 16 mgs. 2, 4, 8 mgs, you will probably be ok. When I went through it, I had taken an 8, then another 8, then a half of one and BOOM.... I was on 24mgs or so at the time, which is fairly high. Either way, be GLAD you didn't experience it, it's not fun! I had no IDEA what withdrawals were!

Yeah, I think because you had taken 8mgs of Subutex and only 30 mgs of Oxy, you were ok. Trust me, over 16 mgs of Subutex combined with almost a half gram of H, NOT OKAY!! :)

Sorry, but I'm sticking with Subutex pills still filling opiate receptors, even without the Naloxone! I just went through it! A site by the name of "helpmegetoffdrugs" has a good article on "tapering off Buprenorphine".... Interesting that their chart shows PET Scans of brains where at 16 mg., most people's brains are ALREADY filled up with Buprenorphine. (The blue-colored part). So the 24 mg. & 32 mg. are likely wasted on most folks. This article does not really differentiate between the strips and the pills, although to me, it sounds like they are referring to the Subutex pills. But it does give an excellent way to taper off of them without going into sub w/d. If you start getting sick, you can go a little back up, exactly like they say to do, and your tolerance will not increase. Hope this helps!
