Smz Tmp DS 800 160 was prescribed along with steroids to treat a mold infection I had in my sinuses. Had great difficulty with digestion during the 15 days prescribed, and had to take over the counter medicine to alleviate severe heartburn, and ice cream for stomach discomfort. After completion of prescription 5 months ago and to date, have been left with a condition of Lactose Intolerance (never experienced before) and one or two days a month of severe fatigue and some joint pain. DOCTOR RECOMMENDED ME TAKE 1 PILL EVERY 12 HOURS. Pregnancy category C means that it isn't known whether or not there is any risk to the baby, because studies haven't been done and they haven't been able to gather enough real world information on it. I have a deep skin infection in my lower leg on the back. I,m wonderind if taking this medicine will help with the infection. I woke up this morning with a skin rash on my arms, stomach, and thighs. So far I have taken 5 sulfamethoxazole tmp ds tablets. One pill twice a day. I know rash is a side effect. I have one pill remaining, is it ok to take the last pill ## Not being your doctor, I cannot tell you if it is ok to take the pill(s) or not. However my opinion is if this is your last pill, you should finish taking it as prescribed by your doctor; unless the side effects become more severe or if your complication has been taken care of already by the medication. Based on your description of the rash it sounds like it is severe, but it is really up to you if you feel the need to contact your doctor for advice. Again, your decision should probably be based on whether or not the side effects are too much for you...

i just started taking depo shot along with sulfamethoxazole and now i cant tell which one is giving me hypersensitivity to light,the slightest hint of sun makes me.break out in instant hives...i was told to decide which one to go off of to find out the cause..:( ive already broken out with skin rashes on the loestrin pill and infections with nuvaring.i always get uti so i hope its the bc over my sulfamethoxazole. ## If it were me, I would look at the antibiotic as being the most likely culprit. I was prescribed this medication by my dermatologist for a skin disorder that he originally thought was pityrosporum folliculitis. I've been prescribed a few different medications that seemed reasonable (by internet standard) but this seems to be a little off. Is this a common medication used to cure this type of skin disorder? i have bought unrinary infection test strips and i used two of them. they both turned out positive for UTI ## Hi Nikki, Based on my research, the combination of sulfamethoxazole 800mg + trimethoprim 160mg can be used to treat urinary tract infections. The usual adult dose for a urinary tract infection is: 1 tablet orally every 12 hours for 10 to 14 days. However I'd still recommend discussing this with your doctor first, in order to confirm whether or not these instructions are also appropriate for your individual needs. can using Sulfamethoxazole Tmp Ds Tablet cause a black tongue? I can't find this as side effect for this medication online ## Yes, it could happen when you are taking this, or any other antibiotic. The black tongue is usually just caused by a yeast fungus overgrowth, so it's just like getting oral thrush from the antibiotic, this is just a bit of a different form.
