I would like to know if I can take Suboxone for 3 or 4 days to wean off my heroin addiction? I don't want to replace one habit for another. Will I be alright?

YES U CAN I been on h yr an a half was on percs vikes before this for 5yrs- my husband is a 4 yr h user thafs how I started he hid his addiction saying he uses only pills for almost 3 yrs we was married then truth came out and found myself 'curios' why the hell the h was controlling him so much then BAM I found out.
Well to tbe point he's in rehab right now since 9 days and I got myself some subs 4 8mg strips I am 3 days not using h and feel fine no physical wd just alwaya on my mind to use but I won't do it.
Here's some help for u guys out tnere really wanting to stop mu hubby told me this the other day when I talmed to him on ph.
Don't say you will never use agajn, just say 'i won't use today' then when u wake up tommorrow take ur sub asap and say 'i feel ok and I won't use today' remember u can use tomorrow but just don't do it today.
Also you will think of the h for sure but this tjought only last a couple mins, tell youself 'no I'm going to wait 20 mins and think about what would happen'
So you can call ur connect and u know u can get some h u know 'one more time before I quit' fix u done told urself the last shot was the 'last' didn't u? Once u do it again its only a very sjirt time till u got to do more h it won't ever be ur last time unless u say 'i won't use it today' and do it for u- I habe two sons a family who doesnot know even now I used h so long tbry think its pills even now they know I take subs abd yes my husband knew we would use together everyday both being sure the other never had to face wd or become sick from h. But now we are getting clean and I am 3 days clean husban comes home in three days.
Hay guys I won't use h today don't know bout never but I know I won't today.
God bless and I know u can do it I am with tne subs only 4 of them to get past tne physical wd.

Hi Marie,

I am going to share my experience, not my opinion as some seem to do. I had a long term, Camden NJ dope habit of roughly 8 bags a day on average. Heres how I got clean with suboxone: I weaned myself down to about three bags a day, then I had two 8mg subs. The hardest part was weaning down, becaus I obviously wasnt feeling the dope too much. I was just barely keeping myself from being sick.

Once I got down to three bags a day for three days, I did 4mg of subs roughly 10 hours after my last dose of dope. Yes, I intentionally precipitated withdrawal. I've done that so many times that I cant count. My logic is that Id rather get the sickness all at once for an hour or so than sit for a full day feeling semi creepy. Everytime that I induce PW, I inject and am sick within 15 seconds. But it only lasts me for about 45 minutes, then I start to feel better and am fully well within 1.5 hours. Enough so that I have an appetite to eat.

Because IVd subs has a shorter activity than sublingual or snorting, I will do another 1-2 mg withing 6-8 hours. The reason for the difference in bioavailability of IVd subs vs. sublingual is essentially because the chemical actually enters the blood stream through the mouth or nasal passages slowly over a period of time.

In any event, in my first 24 hours after taking the subs, I have ingested 6mgs. I wait about 16 hours to snort another 2mg, then wait 24 hours to take 1-2mg every 24 hours. The last time I kicked this way, it took me a total of five days. After that, I had a script for Ultram (tramadol) which I started taking 500mg per day in 250mg doses. Ultram is easy to get prescribed, but be careful, because doses over 400mg can increase the risk of seizures.

I'm not going to say that by detoxing by this method feels great. But is is definitely a whole lot better than my usual 7-12 day kick. My withdrawals are really long becsuse of nearly 25 years of heroin abuse. I can say that this way DOES make it managable where I'm able to work and function.

The Ultram is not a narcotic, but it does act on one of the three primary opiate receptors (mu, delta and kappa). In this action, it is about half as strong as codeine and will definitely help you get through the last legs of detox as the subs leave ypur system. The Ultrams also act as a mild SNRI anti depressant and they REALLY helped me with the depression that always kicks in when detoxing.

If youre not able to get Ultrams, get Immodium. At Walmart you can get a Equate bramd bottle of 72 for about five bucks. It too is an opiate but does not cross the blood brain barrier. I've used 30-50mg per day (yes... Thats 50-100 2mg pills) - it will not make you any more constipated than you were on the dope and will help get you through the last legs of your detox.

Again, this is MY experience which I've done numerous times. Sometimes not weaning down on the dope and sometimes with no Ultram. But I have NEVER needed more than 2 - 8mg subs over 4-6 days. Currently, I have not been dopesick for nearly four months. I've "chipped" a few times, only using for no more than 24 hours and have managed to keep from having any kind of habit.

I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck getting clean. I assure you, having a heroin habit for decades REALLY sucks!

Hi fordsallie,
Please explain further on waiting to take subboxin 24 hours after doing H? I really want to stop H, 3 years ago I had to have spine surgery and had a metal plate put into my spine. I was on oxi for a long time. About a year and a half ago I started doing H every time I ran out of Oxi. Now I am doing H more and more, I am taking about 10 bags a day, sniffing not shooting. I am so tired of living this life, sometimes I wish I was dead. So about 5 months ago I tried taking subbox to help my withdrawals, I was so afraid to feel pain that I took the subbox about 6 hours after I did H, and the withdrawals were bad. So you think I haVe to wait until I start feeling withdrawals before taking subboxin? Please help, thank you so much.

Yes def. Have to wait until you start feeling withdrawls I think I would wait at least 15-16 hours or just to be sure 24 hours. Hope you do it... it is horrible but you can do it and you will be free of it! Just accept your gonna feel like crap for a couple days...

Make sure you wait or you will feel worse. The suboxone include noloxne and although sub will kick some Heroin and other drugs off brain receptor it provides activity to the receptor but not near the level of Heroin. So initially between that and nolxone sp? You could feel worse if anxious and take too early med might not work in your favor but rather intensify withdrawl wait til you are 100% sure u t in moderate to severe withdrawl.... then take sub......it will make itv easier but my experience was 2 days before feeling settled a bit. Mental s*** makes u thinku r f***ed but after that initial span of mild Symptoms that can be delt with things get better quick they will work

ok first I'd like to state this is my experience only....I was doing anywhere from 8 to 10 bags a day...I had been using for three months full blown from about week two into use...I've struggled with heroin addiction in the past ended up goin to jail then to state prison for 7 yes...I was released in Nov.. by Feb was working a great job back in school got an apt and added percs to my life why?!?! I thought I could control it...lol...wrong...I then switched to heroin fast forward to 3 days ago...I've been miserable...I loved being free of the addiction...I turned back out of sheer stupidity....long story short..I got 2 8 mg sub's...I wanted more but it was all I could get my hands on...I put it in my head that my last use was just that...I had already weaned myself down to 4 bags just enuf to get around ....I waited 12 hrs then took my first 2 mg....like I said this is MY experience....if u don't wait long enough thru research I've learned u can put urself into anticipated WD and its much worse...but 12 hrs worked for me...I took 2 mg every 6 hrs just to keep me functioning....I'm at the end of 72 hrs now subs gone and I feel functionable ...I'm not 100% but I'm ok....the mental fear of WD enhances the already bad experience... so I really stayed focused...watched movies...played cards...took my dog out...just stayed focused...believe me when I tell you I have been through HELL in withdrawal before...this was nothin g short of amazing to me...to the point I was questioning if I had been doing heroin at all...addict mentality kicked in...the sub's made a HUGE difference!!! for me...again research..goal of sobriety....support system even if its an online group which I used BC I was living a double life....quit now...its a horrible monkey to carry...good luck

Sorry if I'm too late to help you, but this will help others who find this in an internet search. Imodium - generic name is loperamide - will help enormously. It's anti diarrheal but it's technically a narcotic. It's otc because it doesn't produce a high. Taken in large enough doses, it can ease many other wd symptoms. Do your research. IMPORTANT : stay hydrated with water and take stool softener as needed. You CAN get so constipated from this that it becomes a serious medical problem. Impacted feces. Can cause real damage inside. If you stay hydrated - and I mean HYDRATED - and take a ss, and take only the amount of loperamide you need you should be fine. Peace and good luck!

I have been taking heroin for about 6 months now. At first it would only take a tiny piece to feel its effects. Now I'm up to about two packs a day. I really want to stop. I just don't want to feel the withdraws. I have a 8 month old daughter an that makes the withdrawals that much worse because I have no help with her so I can't just lay around. Can someone please give me you're best advice on how I can get through this with barely any withdrawals plz

@Bill H. (Post 42),

Thanks you have the only message that actually gives real and good information. I've been looking for the best way to go about precipitated WD for the last hour or two so I dont have to sit around all day and deal with that nonsense. I've been using for the last 2 1/2 years. For the first year I didn't have a problem.

After the first year for like 3 months after that I started taking more because I got hurt at work so I didn't want to deal with it all week so I would randomly take some. Like a dumba** -_-

After that I got really hurt not just some nonsense back sprain I fell while I was working and fell 13 feet straight onto by lower back and I literally had to crawl across the transit yard a half a mile to my car and when I got home I got into my bed and did not move from it for a week. Needless to say I was in a excruciating amount to pain and I was taking 1-2 bricks every other day.

The last few months I've wanted to cut down so I stopped doing 2 bricks a day and now I'm down to 1 brick every other day and I'm just sick of doing this anymore. I don't wanna waste my money on it. I'm going to eventually have to go to a rehab I think in July because of idrc for a dui that I was completely sober for and blew a .01 in the breathalyzer so they drug tested me and found a tiny amount of marijuana in it but that's a whole other story. Anyway I just got this surface pro 3 and it has one note so now I can write down the time of each bag I do so I can make sure I'm actually waiting longer to do each bag so I can actually cut down. But thanks again you posted exactly what I was trying to find.

Hi,
I really need help. I have two babies so it's impossible to be ill. I had my last dose of heroin about 1pm today. I had less than normal. I have some Suboxone. How do I use the suboxone to come of the heroin with as little withdrawals as possible. I'm looking to get clean , not substitute. Please help x

Noooo. You have to be in total withdrawals from your heroin addiction for it to work. Although, you will probably be feeling the full effect of the suboxone within a day or so.
WARNING: DO NOT TAKE YOUR SUBOXONE AND ANY TYPE OF NARCOTIC AT THE SAME TIME. IF YOU DO, IT WILL TRIGGER WITHDRAWALS SOOO INTENSE
YOU ONLY THINK YOU'VE HAD WITHDRAWALS BEFORE. HUH.
THE OLD ADDAGE IS TRUE: ALCOHOL DETOX CAN KILL YOU UNLESS YOU'RE UNDER A DR'S CARE.
OPIOID DETOX WON'T KILL YOU. BUT IT WILL MAKE YOU WISH YOU WERE DEAD........

I love what u wrote. Everything u said was so true. I'm starting to withdraw rite now & I have a few subs that I'm gonna detox myself with. I hate this heroin so bad. I had 9 years clean before I relapsed last year because of a separation with my girlfriend. God bless all addicts out there cause there's alot of ppl that don't understand heroin addiction. start drinking about eight hours since your last fix. try to kill as much time as possible, then take your sub.

Me and my girlfriend have came off heroin after a year. I bought a couple subs (9 of them) and tapered myself down. I was on the subs for 6 days before I ran out. But I felt fine. Now I'm 4 days off the subs and I feel like s***. How am I possibly still sick 10 days later?

Ive been clean for over a year and i relapsed yesterday... Can i take subs right away so i dont relapse again even tho i dont get withdrawls from dope as a preventative measure?

I do what I call my rapid detox, I get six subs and taper myself off of dope with them and then have no problem staying clean for awhile afterwards minus the craving every once in awhile (usually I relapse by choice, longest I've stayed clean is 2 years but then life turned to s*** so I got back on dope) but anyways, I'm on 6 8mg subs, take a full one days 1,2,3 then half of one for days ",4,5,6,7," then quarter of one for days 8,9,10,11,and then boom! None after that....no sub withdrawal, no dope withdrawal, nothing. Given, it takes some mental strength to resist temptation once done with the subs, but this method eliminates all physical discomfort from the getting sober process....picking you up out of addiction and dropping you off feeling fresh and positive on the other side. Now, I had a friend use this method and he said about 2days after stopping subs his joints ached a bit (I attributed this to his body still re-regulating the dopamine/serotonin production) but he started taking naproxen (Aleve) every 4 hrs afterwards and it stopped hurting. Also, I would recommend getting a few 20/30mg adderalls for the transition cause it will help you find something to do with your time which will be the key to staying clean. I hope this helps!!!
