I would like to know if I can take Suboxone for 3 or 4 days to wean off my heroin addiction? I don't want to replace one habit for another. Will I be alright?

I was currently using H for 3 weeks... i'm an addict and I relapsed. About three years ago I went to rehab..NO LUCK. Today will be my first day with no subs. I did the short taper I started 4 days ago. I'm feeling FINE!! I also got me enough Xanax to last me for 2 weeks to help. I have withdrawaled from heroin quite a few times...STUPID ME!! But let me tell you Any benzo will help if you have NOTHING else to help the wd from opiates!!!

hi big ken, I am a heroin addict i inject in my groin have been on it for 3 years and i cold turkeyed last year for 5 months and relapsed!!! so i have been using again since august last year and i have bought 7 8mg suboxone tabs and i have immodium tabs and ltyrosine tabs to do a detox with i have read and read and read so much on suboxone and found varied messages . i sat here this morning eyeing up the suboxone tab and decided id try it tommorow morning as i am wary of starting it but please please tell me what you say is true and i can have a miracle detox and b ok ??? please reply thanks x

A "miracle " detox??? Not to be rude but I lol'd loudly at that one. No addict miraculously becomes addiction free. I've been clean for 6 months and still consider myself very much an addict.

But back to your question I am only vaguely familiar with suboxone only being used for detoxification since it is a maintenance drug. You need some training on coping strategies to avoid relapse and breaking that addiction mentality. I would imagine you spend quite a bit of money maintaining your heroin habit so maybe you could make the subs you have now last several days until you get in to a suboxone doctor. Check with several one's before deciding since it can be costly and make sure to check at your town or county's local mental health facility since they usually have low cost suboxone and addiction treatment options at no cost or based on your income.

If you're serious about getting clean then take all that effort you apply into procuring dope every day into getting clean and you'd be able to do it.

dude be careful with suboxone...all you need is like 2-3 strips(pills)..let me explain why..

1)Suboxone is 100 times stronger than smack

2)It can be ADDICTING (so please use it to get off and not to substitute one habit for another)

3)If you take it for more than a week you will get suboxone withdrawals (which last 7-14 days) trust me i know what im talking about dont take this as a joke you will suffer...

A lot of people i know who took subs for too long actually went through "suboxone withdrawal" which took a very long to go away due to a VERY LONG HALF-LIFE...most of them went back to H because instead of suffering for 2 weeks from suboxone withdrawal they could just suffer for 3-5 days coming of H cold turkey.

NOW HOW TO TAKE IT

WAIT UNTIL YOU ACTUALLY START FEELING SICK BEFORE TAKING SUBOXONE!!!

1)12-24 hours after your last dose of H.

2)Take 1st strip of Suboxone and cut it in 2pcs.(1 half in the morning....another half at night) DONT TAKE THE WHOLE THING 8mg is too much!!! DONT LISTEN TO WHAT DOCS ARE SAYING, THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY!!!

3)Next day..take your 2nd strip and cut it into 4 pieces..this should last you 2 DAYS...1 pc in the AM 1 in the pm.

4)After you finished your 2nd strip...3rd strip should be cut into 6 pieces, and that should last you 3 days..same pattern as last 2 strips you took (1 in the am and 1 in the pm)

5)After you finished your 3 strips you should be feeling ok..little to no dope sickness...

PLEASE GIVE THIS A SHOT..ITS WORTH IT BELIEVE ME.

I started using heroin when I was 20 years old. I am now 50 and I have used off and on. I went to rehab 3 years ago, and relapsed with a year. The rehab put me on suboxone, first 4 and then 8. I keep going back to heroin. It has destroyed my health and mentally I can't take it. I want to get back on suboxone. I get so sick every time I get back on it. Am I not waiting long enough off of heroin before I start the suboxone, or what. I am so sick of this. I have done this my whole adult life. I want to stop it all. What should I do to get through the heroin withdrawals? I may have started the suboxone too soon. I am sicker than a dog. Puking, and hot sweats, cold sweats and I cannot sleep at all. What can I do to feel better?

Umm suboxone is used to detox only in some situations you CAN just take it for five days to get clran the ppl take it for longer periods of Time BC it fights cravings

Hey this is my first or I should say newest detox from heroin period....I took my last bag at night that way I knew I would atleast sleep a lot of the night away, then once I woke up I waited until about dinner time, that's when I took a quarter of a sub, then another quarter soon after. I added benzos (klipins) in the mix and its really helping. I'm not 100%, but its day 5 and I'm actually getting up in the morning after sleep! I say don't wait until you're super sick to take that first dose, but make sure you did start to feel the craving..... and WATER WATER WATER!!!!! HELPS!!!! good luck, you can do it : )

This reply is totally correct.Im a drug counselor and this was the original protocol.Suboxone was meant to be a short detox.You also can take take 4mg in the AM then 4mg at night for the first day the reason is that if you take 8mg on the first day it could put you in withdraw due to the Naloxone.The second day take 8mg then the third day take 8mg then you are done you will have a blood level in your system for the forth and fifth day .Suboxone has what they call a half life.Belive me this way or the other guys post are the most Effective ways to use Suboxone to detox from Herion. Good luck and push through it you deserve to be happy and clean.

I have been on Heroin for about year, using about a gram a day. I have three Suboxone strips. I have two shots of heroin left. Just took one not to long ago. What is the best way to take my suboxone's to go through the least withdrawals as possible. Please reply, I want off of this drug it's hell on earth.

start with a half a strip and see how that feels after about an hour. (make sure you waited the 24 hours before you take it!) If you do take it too early and have a participated withdraw, don't panic it only lasts about 30 minutes.

Each sub lasts about 24 hours so if you feel good after a half strip wait 24 hours before taking the other half. Then every 24 hours cut the dose in half again. you will feel absolutely no withdraws and you probably wont develop an addiction to the subs.

I have a half a strip and 1 1/3 pill of subutex Im hoping will work for me. I have 3 days to conquer this beast. It is hell. its a demon inside you and it needs to be defeated! Good Luck!

do you have to wait to be in withdraw before taking them my friend is trying to get off oxycodone its extremely serious he is highly addicted please help!!!!!!!

Yes you must be in withdrawal to take suboxone if you don't you will be in horrible pain and it will make you withdrawal five time worse if you take it too soon

Marie, I am not sure Michael answered your question, he provided his own experience with Suboxone. Your question is, "Can you ween yourself off of opiates by utilizing suboxone for a couple days" and as Jon stated, YES YOU CAN!! What Michael is talking about is purely suboxone maintenance, a program in which you continue to use suboxone not just through withdrawls, but as a mean to get your life on track by taking it everyday to curb cravings and prevent you from getting high. Now what you are asking is completely different. From what I understand you would like to take suboxone in order to get through the initial withdrawal symptoms, which as Jon already stated from personal experience is completely doable (which is what I am currently doing as well). Now the trick is staying clean after you are no longer taking the suboxone after day 4 or 5, which is the tricky part. Yes suboxone maintenance (taking suboxone for a long period of time) does help you get your life back on track, but if you think you can stay off of the opiates after that 5th day once your suboxone is gone, do it!! Michael failed to mention of F***ing difficult it is to quit suboxone, even after a couple months, unless you VERY slowly ween off, which between doctors visits and medication can be very expensive, however you cannot put a price on a clean and healthy life, so if that is what you need, by all means do it. I am weening off of heroin by use of suboxone and then I am going to rehab and going to white knuckle the rest of the acute withdrawals there. Good Luck to you! I can tell you using suboxone for the first 3/4 days to get past withdrawals, then going cold turkey so to speak is the best way to do it. Why? Well I had a 600-800 a day habit and did it. Honesty when you go cold turkey its the withdrawal symptoms, pounding headaches and runs, that make you use again, after that its really all mental, so if you don't want to feel like that again and are adamant you want out you'll get past the mental demons. Withdraw symptoms are the worst and personally the reason why is transgress. So if you can understand that and don't want to depend on a substitute, do it you won't look back. Anyway good luck to you all, asking about it is the first step, the second is doing it. Just inquiring shows you are sick of it and want help, if you need anymore advice or help don't be afraid to seek and ask, there are a lot of people out there willing to assist non judgementally. Ps to all the people who categorize all heroin users as thieves and stealers and that your alway off your face and can't manage anything. Research further or open your eyes. I was a detective in Victoria, I paid for my habit and didn't use my position in a very high heroin dealing inner Melbourne suburb. I hid it for 3 years and inadvertently was found out and came clean. I was a high achiever at work and had a position of authority and power. I did not ever abuse this, just myself. I'd like to blame a very bad time in my life and it helped to numb things so I could keep a brave face and march on, but that's a cheap excuse for not being honest and asking for help. Everyone has a choice, the only issue I have is with victoria police who wiped their hands and gave me no help after 15 years of hard work and a very clean record.

I am an addict, I am 25 years old now. Have been using heroin off and on since I have been 15 years old. I have got off H many times using only few subs. It works. To start off wait 24 hours since you've last done dope. Then take half a strip. See how you feel in 2 hours. If you still feel bad take another little slice under your tounge. I usually use about 4 subs to do this. Over a period between 3-5 days. Then I feel great and happy I am off H. I am actually doing this right now again. Sadly :/ I'm on my 3 day. But this time I could never be more serious to stay off the H. It really is a shifty thing to have to rely on in order to function regularly. GOOD LUCK GUYS! IT CAN BE DONE. I PROMISE YOU IT CAN BE DONE
