Suboxone And Soma
Updated18 Replies
Yes.
I would not suggest doing so without your doctor's approval, but yes, narcotics and muscle relaxants are often prescribed together, to help control pain that one doesn't touch.
Suboxone contains the active ingredient Buprenorphine, it is used to help people with drug addiction and to treat some cases od severe pain.
Soma contains the active ingredient Carisoprodol, it is a muscle relaxant.
Taking the two, together, my aggravate the side effects, which can include: nausea, drowsiness, constipation and dizziness.
You can read more about them here:

Did you have any other questions?
Yes, Im rxed both Flexeril, soma, and 16mg Suboxone EDay and Im told by my pharmacist and doc. to use either the flexreril or soma, not both w/ my daily dose of suboxone. I have 0 size effects except for Euphoria, and the suboxone and soma 350mg seem to work very well together! The flexeril produces similar effects but no Euphoria just pain and relief from feening over OC and H which w/ the help of these meds for lower back pain and Opioid abuse, I've been clean and sober almost 4yrs! 20mg's subs dwn to 16mg's and was dwn to 4mgs at one time but did no good as I could still use oxycodone and H and feel the effects. almost like I took nothing at all so doc. uped me to 8mgs, didn't cut it, so finally ended up w/ a strong 16mg 2 strip dose. works on pain a little alone, but I take potentiators such as Vistaril 50mg bid and Phenergan 25mg tid all as needed for added effects, and also Vistaril is good 4 anxiety and now there finding it works on pain receptors and is also just a strong anti-histamine but now there finding other properties not previously known about! This is a plus right there! Anyways Good luck everyone, and may we all b pain free!
No offense..but the last thing you are is clean or sober...only way to achieve that is 0 substances..I'm on subs too and it just another drug..
What some people don't understand is the no being sober means your using prescribed drugs,it's if you abuse the meds then you are not clean and sober,if your state of mind is dirt then so are you .so if you are doing right by your meds then clean and sober it it's congratulations and keep up the good work
I'm glad you said that some people want to say it's just another drug and if you say that then you really don't know what your talking about because subutex and suboxone is totally different from taking a pain pill not the same filling at all it just keeps you from going through the withdraws but does not make you feel the same and you still struggle with wanting to take pills so going on the subs is a step in the right direction and if you are not able to see that then maybe it's because your not doing like your supposed to be doing so don't down others because you can't take it correctly and get clean so you feel the need to try and bring others down to your sad and need to take a look at your life before judging others :-)
No offense, but that concept you hold is both scientifically outdated and generally incorrect. For decades society perceived addiction as either all or nothing at all; sobriety was, literally, the absence of all substances from one's own body: this belief, often pushed through 12-STEP Groups such as "NA" or "AA." This, however, is far from the legitimate truth.
Today, thanks to vast quantities of scientific research, countless evaluations performed, and endless studies regarding the disease of "Addiction," Science, Psychology, and Medicine have since disproven, both consistently and undeniably, that the entire generalized perspective of: "Suboxone is just a drug replacing another drug, thus leaving the addict unclean" is simply not true. This point of view regarding "Addiction" was, merely a long held perspective, rooted merely in "black and white" thinking; a mentality which is, in and of itself, is both naïve and lacking truthfulness.
That being said, in order to be considered "CLEAN," one must ONLY be taking DOCTOR PRESCRIBED MEDICATIONS AS PRESCRIBED FOR LEGITIMATE PURPOSES. Additionally, being on SUBOXONE for MAINTENANCE THERAPY for addiction issues, ALSO AS PRESCRIBED AND MONITORED BY A LEGITIMATE, LISCENCED DOCTOR, IS IN FACT BEING SCIENTIFICALLY "CLEAN."
HOWEVER, that being said, if you ABUSE your PRESCRIBED Meds (I.e: TAKING MORE THAN your PRESCRIBED DOSAGE, and/or INGESTING them NOT as SPECIFICALLY PRESCRIBED BY YOUR DOCTOR), THEN, IN THAT CASE, one is, in fact, NOT CLEAN.
Your disposition regarding "Sobriety' is simply too plain and broad without any depth to it.
Scientific definition and Substance Abuse Doctors nearly ALL agree that one is truly "SOBER and CLEAN" if they are taking LEGITIMATELY PRESCRIBED MEDICATIONS FROM LEGITIMATE LICENSED PHYSICIANS EXACTLY AS THEY ARE PRESCRIBED, IN THE EXACT DOSAGES AS PRESCRIBED, AND TAKEN IN THE CORRECT MANNER AS PRESCRIBED."
Regards and God Bless.

Many years ago, I was given many prescriptions for a broken back and neck. As the neck is inoperable, I was, at the time, taking 8 40mg oxycontin a day, with assorted other narcotics for breakthrough pain.
I was strung out, but still doing what the doctor ordered....when I read about Suboxone, I was intrigued. I had been tired of the same old same old for many years. I decided to give it a try.....It has been over 7 years, and suboxone has saved me. Suboxone is a GREAT pain reliver, but without the constant taking of pills to feel normal. No more chasing the dragon....I am in my 60's, and cannot imagine going back to oxycontin....Thank you Suboxone...
Thank you so much for that I have been off pain meds for almost a year now thanks to Suboxone and my wife and I have battled with that question whether I was just replacing one thing for another but you seem to know what you're talking about would love to chat with you more
Exactly. Taking perscriptions according to your doctors planned regiment is not 'USING'. Using and having an issue means that you specifically do not follow doctors orders for how you take the medicine/how much etc. That is addiction. Taking things as the bottles and RXs say, that is NOT addiction.
I still don't understand. You can take the exact dose exactly how the doctor prescribes and you can still be addicted to that medicine whether it's Suboxone or Oxycontin if you were to not have it you would go through withdrawal symptoms therefore I believe that you are addicted. It's a scientific fact that no matter what pill you put in your body your brain is going to quit producing a certain chemical and therefore you have to get that chemical through a pill form into me you can be addicted even if you take it as prescribed with no exceptions please respond
Re: ktyount666 (# 4)
That's right man replacing one for the other I take 2 strips a day and if I go without for more than three days I get mild withdrawals so no one can say it is the best alternative it's just a temporary one.
Re: Verwon (# 2)
My question is... I'm on Butrans patch 10 mcg. Can I also take Soma with the patch? I can't seem to find an answer!
Re: B (# 11)
I take Prozac and if I stop I will have withdrawals. Does that make me an addict? Yes, I am addicted to the med and there are many more examples like this. But it does not mean that I am not sober. Not drinking means I’m sober. Not shooting up means I’m sober. Working a program (not necessarily a 12 step one) means I’m sober. Taking my muscle relaxers and other prescribed meds AS PRESCRIBED means I’m sober. Suboxone is a legal prescribed medication and if it keeps you from shooting heroin as it did for me, there’s nothing at all wrong with it. In fact it can be a miracle drug for a lot of people who want to get off of opiates.
Re: ktyount666 (# 4)
Iam on suboxen also and I would much rather be on that , than sticking a needle in my arm not knowing what I was shooting up. Ugh this gets on my last nerve unless you experienced it don’t talk about it period point blank
Re: TheHighCounsellor (# 7)
Amen!! Thank you for adding this wonderful and helpful piece of information. I just wish people understood how huge it is for us to be able to say we are clean and sober although taking suboxone. Ive always just said im in recovery bc of people feeling that we are not clean bc we still take suboxone. I have no one who celebrates my sobriety bc they don't understand why I have to take a medication to not abuse medications.
Re: Chris420 (# 3)
So is Suboxune and soma like taking pain pill --- narco and soma? Is it the same feeling
Re: TheHighCounsellor (# 7)
Ritalin and Soma give me the greatest effects. I can't keep my eyes open but I still have the Ritalin feeling, only stronger. Weird I know but it works.
