Suboxone Lengthy Therapy

Updated

Why are people staying on this drug for so long? I kicked a major heroin addiction with 5 days worth of pills I scored on the street. I felt anxious and weak a couple days after the pills but then was fine.

The time the drug therapy is required can depend upon the length and intensity of the person's addiction.

Some people in drug addictions have trouble finding something eles in there lives that makes them feel happy, or reason to live even. Some can get right of herione and become back into a normal life style again with out much trouble besides the week you descirbed. Others forgot or never knew of a way to live life with happyness iin it. Thats what stops many people form getting off many drugs in my oppinion. I belive if you can show them a diffrent way of living life, hiking, swimming, execersize in general is a great way to do so. Im talking from personal experiance with my own opiate addictions for over 2 years. I beat it with soboxin for the sicks as its said and working out. Now im addicted to working out and walking but hey, its cheap and good for ya. Hope you do well in your trails and journys!

Perhaps becuz what works for one addict who proclaims to have had a major heroin addiction does not work for another. And although you may have kicked and feel fine, there are MANY others who can kick and still crave the drug. Its hard to imagine that someone who had a major heroin addiction is not having thoughts on using again.

But hey, that do I know? I'm just a pill head!

Godspeed.......

The reason, as explained to me by a top specialist here, is that 95% of all people who are placed on suboxone short-term will relapse. Suboxone was truly intended to be a 9 month to 2 yr treatment program. The reason for this is that after kicking opiates, your dopamine levels are way, way below normal.... in fact, you are not naturally producing dopamine as you should. It takes 2 years on subxone to raise the levels of dopamine to NORMAL (non addict) levels.

I have to agree with everyone. I've been on Suboxone for 4 months and I really enjoy life again. I abused drugs on and off for over 10 yrs. Did detoxes, out-patient, residential, all sorts of programs. I even got kicked out of one rehab for using. I was always depressed & suicidal. I even got committed to the Psych. ward because I overdosed and slashed my wrists. Oh, I forgot my marriage ended over all of this, too. After all the treatments that didn't work, I FEEL that i finally found the one to help me. And so far, so good. I enjoy life again, the little things I took for granted. like my friends and family. The hell I put them through, and they still love me, because they see how this drug is helping me with my opiate addiction.
I think Suboxone is a miricale drug for us addicts.

My 30 yr old son was on drugs for about 9 yrs. He has been clean for 3 yrs., with the use of Suboxone.
How long is it safe to use Suboxone? 3 yrs. seems like a very long time.
If he doesn't take it consistently exactly on time, he gets nervous and upset, so he is afraid to even think about getting off Soboxone.

My suboxone is $200 a mo. with rx insurance. Without the insurance it would be $800.

That's what I just did, I brought 4 - 8mg/2mg Suboxone strips, from my drug dealer, while I was coping, believe it or not, for $40.00. I can't start taking them until withdrawal starts, but I'm gonna try 1 strip a day for 4 days, I don't know if that will hold me, so I just text-ed my dealer and told him to save me 4 more strips, I'll buy them later tonight, just to be safe. That way I have 8 - 8mg/2mg strips. I been shooting about 1 to 2 grams of dope a day, so I'm thinking I'll need to take 2 strips the first two days, than drop down to 1 strip a day for a few days and than none a day. I want to stop shooting dope, my life is at rock bottom and I can't handle cold turkey withdrawal.

I agree, personally, I know that I'm in for a major battle against myself, I brought the Suboxone strips to help me detox off heroin the next few days. If I go to a detox, they gonna give me methadone for the 5 days I'm there. Usually, 25mg, 20mg, 15mg, 10mg, 5mg are the daily methadone doses. The first few days of detoxing are the toughest, and the small amount of methadone they give, barely would keep me from leaving. I been through at least 50 Detox's my entire life, about 12 Rehabs, 3 of them were for at least a year, numerous Outpatient programs, 4 Methadone programs, AA, CA, NA, I been fighting my whole life, and honestly, I should be dead. When I went to go buy my dope this morning, I went to my drug dealers crib and on his table, he had a bunch of Suboxone strips laying there, my eyes were like, Boing, I been wanting to quit shooting dope for the last few months and was getting ready to drive 750 miles today, to go to the detox center I always go to. Their aren't any Methadone detox's where I live and I know everyone at the one I was leaving for, and they get me in quick as well. Little does my drug dealer know, he is helping me quit getting high, I know by tomorrow night after he hasn't heard from me, my cell gonna be ringing, I been spending over 1 G a week on heroin with him and you know he is gonna be missing the $$$. I'm leaving my cell in the glove box of my car tonight, shut it off and I'm staying in the house the next few days, while I detox. I need to go see him one last time later, to buy a few more strips, so I have enough and get more dope, I just hope that out of all times that I don't OD tonight, my luck. Be with me peeps and I'll be back at the end of week to let you guys know how I'm doing. Happy Thanksgiving to All.

You should only start with the bare minimal and taper down. Usually 4-8 mg a day for the first few days then taper down. The strips can be cut. They work immediatlu but take 3 days to fully build up in your system. You must be in full withdrawal or it will put you in major withdrawal. If u take too much you will build a tolerance and can become addicted to suboxone. Suboxone withdrawal is worst then heroine if u take too much and don't taper down correctly.

stillnotsure, please google co-pay cards for suboxone, they have them online and you can get your suboxone from any where to 0 to a 45. co-pay at the most it will depend on how much your insurence co-pay is. I get mine for free with this card I printed off line Hope this helps you and other people who need help with the co-pay, but you do have to have insurence to get this co-pay card

I use copay card myself and so I get monthly prescription for free. The card pays up to $50 monthly. Your right, you will need to be on insurance to use this card. I still have to pay cash for sub dr. visits.

good for you, no need to brag about it, people are different, not everyone is as powerful, strong as you are:)

How about now, your post is old, did you manage to avoid another addiction perhaps? you said you had a "major heroin addiction" i really doubt someone like that would talk like that. More like you used for a month and then stopped.

suboxone does not block the effects of clonazapam or any other nerve pill i know from expereince, and you are allowed to take them together, as long as you take them as prescribed.

Suboxone blocks opiates, not benzos (i.e. klonopin, Xanax, valium). In fact, and I'm not advising this....taking Subs and Bezos together way intensifies the effect for the average person.

Suboxone doesn't block klonopin. Just opiates. And some people have to take klonopin for anxiety

thanks for posting...I get pissed when people question how long someone does or doesn't take suboxone...ive been on it over 2 years now, and though I am taking less than I started off with, its definitely psychological with me and feel it brings out a positive change in my social interactions and feels like a necessary med in conjunction with the anti-d's Ive been prescribed...I also see my psychiatrist every 2 weeks...some weeks are good and other weeks I feel like I don't want to see her anymore.
