I have had almost every kind of sedative-hypnotics prescribed to me (Including Doriden, Noludar, Seconal, and Placidyl). Placidyl has a funny, fruit-like odor and taste to it.It was an effective hypnotic for sleep and I didn't wake up with a headache or a "hangover". Placidyl took effect in about 15 minutes and lasted all night long. It not only acted as a hypnotic, but as a sedative too. Eli Lilly&Co. ceased distribution of this drug in the late 1990's. ## If it was discontinued, there isn't much you can do about it. Are you currently trying anything else? Have you tried any of the Benzodiazepine class of medications, such as Xanax? ## Placidyl was one of the most effective sleep aids ever made. Abbott was the company that discontinued it in 1999. If you took on...

Can I still take Temazepam that expired 9 years ago? ## It doesn't become dangerous, once expired, but it will most likely have lost some of its efficacy. Even when a medication is stored in the original, factory sealed packaging, it still expires in 4 to 5 years, and if it has been opened, and placed in a prescription bottle dispensed by your pharmacy, then its expiration date is a year from when it was dispensed. Harvard Health has some great information available on expiration dates. The way the medication has been stored in the intervening years can also play a role, exposure to heat, light, air, and moisture all aid in degradation. It would be best to dispose of it, and see your doctor for a new prescription, if one is needed. Ref: Temazapam Information Is there anything else I...

found round white pill that is double scored with no markings ## Did you find out what this is? I have the same pill ## I also was on the hunt to figure out what these small, white, double scored pills with no imprint on the other side were. I dug around for a good half hour and apparently they are 3mg melatonin. ## So I did some digging for a good half hour to figure these out as I also have the same small, white, round, double scored pills with no imprint on the other side. Does anyone know how effective ProSom is compared to Z-Hypnotics as a sleep aid? ## I thought the only benzo capable of GABAA a1 agonism was restoril. Is this also true of doral? The easiest way to target this receptor is with ethanol. there must be something better.

I am currently taking 30mg of restoril capsules each night and would like to know if I can get a non-prescription medication to replace it? ## Hello, Kay! How are you? No, there is nothing similar available over the counter. As listed by FDA, Restoril contains the active ingredient Temazepam, which is a benzodiazepine that's most commonly used to treat insomnia. It carries the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability. What other medications have you tried? ## Valerian root and melatonin.

I have received some liquid filled capsules that look fluorescent yellow or very light green. I am promised they are temazepam by Pfizer but I've never ever seen see through capsules. I have a rule where I will not take anything I am not 100% certain of. Can anyone please tell me if there is a see through temazepam gel cap that fits this description ? I've trawled the internet images but the one I find are not see through. I don't want to throw away good stuff but rather that than be a possible fatality. I also have some pink and deep, round and pink tablets that are scored on one side but with no markings. I'm told they are alprazolam 4mg. Apparently they turn blue in liquid. They are at least double or treble the depth of a normal pill. The guy says that are C10 alpraz...

My physician prescribed every benzo drug imaginable (Ambien, Lunesta, sp?) and they were ineffective for my occasional insomnia, at best. He gave me a prescription for Seconal to use as needed. When I tried to fill it you would have thought the Rx said "Opiates" or "LSD". The younger pharmacists had not a clue as to what it was, and the older ones acted like they had seen a ghost. Anyway, I finally found the medication via my home delivery pharmacy and when I need it, I take it and it works. No wiped out memory, no sleepwalking, so groggy aftermath. Any drug when taken in excess or with other drugs can be dangerous...this includes simple OTC drugs, Tylenol, aspirin etc. This drug has been so vilified. I know that there is another use for the drug (in Oregon), however thi...

My dentist gave me either halcion or haldol to pull all my teeth out, they only gave me two of the tiniest pills 1 hour before I went in the dentist chair. I was not completely normal again for over 24 hrs. My question is, which medication do you believe it was that they gave me? The haldol or halcion? And how could 2 lil pills completely knock me out to where I felt no pain nor do I remember anything about the pulling of my teeth and was out for an additional 24hrs after the procedure? ## Hello, Kelliekell! How are you? It was most likely Halcion, it contains the active ingredient Triazolam and is also often used to treat severe cases of insomnia. It is a benzodiazepine and very potent, which explains how it affected you. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, i...

I've been prescribed to take Carb/Levo for restless leg syndrome. Does anyone have experience using it for this purpose and what were results? ## I don't know how old your question is, but my mother has taken it for at least 10 years with no side effects. It provides her great relief. Once in awhile it won't be effective enough, but she gets by on those nights. ## I've been taking carb/levo for restless leg syndrome for a couple years. I started taking one tablet, 10 mg.- 100 mg and about a year later took 1 1/2 tablets. Now I'm down to 1/2 tablet as the higher dosage created restlessness an hour after I took it ... and lasted an hour before i could relax enuf to go to sleep. Taking Lupin zolpidem ER round blue..works great. Pharmacy now has Sandoz zolpidem ER round pink. Both 12.5. Totally ineffective. Have gone back and forth before due to what pharmacy gets. The Sandoz is useless. Anyone else noticed this? ## Hello, Jay! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you've had. Alternatively, I took the Sandoz brand and it worked great for me and I didn't do well with the Lupin. It can just vary from person to person. We are all different. The only real way to avoid this is by asking your doctor if they can prescribe it as 'brand medically necessary', or whatever the equivalent is in your state. According to the FDA, this medication may cause side effects that could include nausea, dizziness, hallucinations, funny taste in mouth, sleep...

Zolvest comes in a blister pack of 10. They are generic for Ambien. They work better than any other Zolpidem generic I tried. Has anyone tried this medication and if so do you know who the manufacturer is? Also, how did it affect you? Lastly, I was sent this other garbage called Zolfresh and it works nothing like the Zolpidem I've taken for years. The only thing close is Zolvest. I am so PO'ed. I was promised that this Zolfresh was a good brand and was just like the other, but the only thing it does is make me feel like I've taken NyQuil in heavy doses that make me feel heavy and lethargic but don't put me under. I will run out tomorrow, so now I'm in trouble and will be withdrawing for however long it takes. So now I'm up without a paddle. This really sucks! Has...

Hi, anyone tried expired ambien or a drug similar to zolpidem (z-drug), especially if it's been years since it's expiration date, and what was the effect? Is it still as good as it used to be? I have seen studies showing that some drugs practically never expire. One study found 50 year old barbiturates that still had over 100% potency left! Another study looked at ambien for NASA space station, it found that 2 year expired ambien still had about 101% of potency left. If it's true that ambien is similar to barbiturates in this regard, in theory, it should still be near 100% potent even 50 years past it's manufacturing date provided it's stored in optimal conditions. But I would like to hear your experiences about it. ## I have a script that is 3 years old and as I sto...

Hi friends. I’m prescribed 10mg of Ambien nightly. While in Mexico I decided to fill my prescription as not to have to rely on my Dr so much and to have extras when needed. For instance when I forget to get my US script filled in time or run out of refills and still need my Ambien to sleep. I got them at Farmacia Guadalajara in PV. The packages were closed and sealed. They are Stilnox 10mg. They’re white, oblong, and are imprinted with Stilnox on one side and scored once to break in half on the other side. They were pricey. $150 or so for 30 pills. They had us show identification, etc. I just need to know if these are a good brand? My main question is, if anyone else has taken Stilnox 10mg from Mexico, are my markings correct? Help! I don't want to take them if they coul...

My pain Dr. has okayed it for me to take Ambien (Zolpidem) at night. I take Oxycodone during the day only. He said I do need a primary care Dr. to prescribe the Ambien. Is it okay to take both of these within the same 24 hour period? ## Yes I did for awhile. I liked restoril better but they wouldn’t let me take a benzo sleeping pill with oxy. ## You can take them both, if your doctor(s) approve. However, the FDA does warn that doing so may worsen the severity of some of the usual side effects, which may include nausea, sedation, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, and disorientation. Ref: Zolpidem and Oxycodone Information. Zolpidem has also been known to cause sleep actions, and next day hangover-like effects. Is there anything else I can help with?

I use this 10 mg (TEVA 74) generic Ambien. Empty bottle, but 2 in pill box so I verified ID. I always cut it because 5 mg almost always does the sleepy job. Often take quarter pill, then an another 1/4 pill if still awake 1/2 hr later. Cutting pills (if not specially coated) can save money as higher dose pills can cost little more than lower dose pills. ## Hello, Night Owl and thank you for the informative post. Yes, it is safe to cut or break most regular release medications, unless you are specifically instructed not to do so by your doctor or pharmacist, so this method could save someone money in the long run. he took last night 60mg restoril only supposed to take 30mg. He also took 20mg zyprexa only supposed to take 5mg, He is also didnt take klonopin since he toook way too much last week and he was having brain zaps ears ringing and in a fog he felt paralyzed he fell down and dizzy. could that be from klonpin withdrawl or too much medications. he also takes 20mgnadolol and 50mg vistaril ## If he isn't taking them as prescribed, then it is difficult to say which one may have caused the symptoms he experienced, it could be due to withdrawal, or suddenly jumping to a higher dose of the others. Why is he taking them like this? He really needs to take them as prescribed, no more, no less. The Klonopin can be very dangerous, if someone is taking too much of it, then suddenly stops.
