I was prescribed 15mg temazepam capsules in August 2008 to help me sleep. I still have some from 2008; it is now the year 2016. Is it safe to take or has it expired? ## This medication does not become dangerous once expired, but it does lose effectiveness over time. After this many years, they are most likely useless and you should dispose of them. The FDA warns that such a medication carries the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability. My psych prescribed me Temazepam 15 mg. He also has me on Lexapro 20 mg & Zanax up to 4mg per day. My fiance went to pick up the rx for me and the pharmacist gave a huge lecture on how I should not be taking Temazepam and Xanax. I initially dismissed that info, feeling that my dr would not have prescribed if there was a concern. However, I read all the blah blah on it causing "sleep driving" and all that stuff, which freaks me out so I didn't take the medication. Does anyone know how common those side effects are? Should I even be concerned? **Additional Info: My benzo tolerance is relatively high due to years of anxiety meds. I also take Norco & Ritalin. Any thoughts or experiences are appreciated. My script has been filled with some round 7-5mg zopiclone. I know they're bad, or at least I think they are. They have BL on them. People I know have taken them and say they work, but these guys would drink petrol if it worked. Just wondering if you've heard of them? ## Where did they get these from? Online or from the UK? I obtained some Zopiclone and they are usually oval shaped and white in colour, 7.5mg but these are round and off white coloured with a large Z on one side of the pill and a score mark on the other, has anyone had anything similar? I tried the pill identifier online and it came up with something for headaches called Zomig. I have been diagnosed with DSPS. Not sure if that is the correct diagnosis; Basically I can fall asleep just fine, at any hour. I can adjust my sleep schedule as needed, BUT when I did a sleep study the specialist noticed that my brain waves were significantly more active than they should have been in deep REM sleep. IE: The doctor told me "my brain was waking up" 5-6 times an hour, despite the fact that I was sleeping through the night and getting into deep REM. I was prescribed Temazepam and that seemed to help a lot as i can FALL asleep i'm just not getting quality sleep because my brain wont stop. I've been on lunesta for 10 years straight. I have to take at least half of a 3 mg pill every night or no sleep. If there are any side effects, I am not aware of them. We got a 90 day Rx from our mail order pharmacy of Teva 74, the round pills. We usually get the oblong Zolpidem pills. I have had almost every kind of sedative-hypnotics prescribed to me (Including Doriden, Noludar, Seconal, and Placidyl). Placidyl has a funny, fruit-like odor and taste to it.It was an effective hypnotic for sleep and I didn't wake up with a headache or a "hangover". Placidyl took effect in about 15 minutes and lasted all night long. It not only acted as a hypnotic, but as a sedative too. Eli Lilly&Co. ceased distribution of this drug in the late 1990's. ## If it was discontinued, there isn't much you can do about it. Are you currently trying anything else? Can I still take Temazepam that expired 9 years ago? ## It doesn't become dangerous, once expired, but it will most likely have lost some of its efficacy. Even when a medication is stored in the original, factory sealed packaging, it still expires in 4 to 5 years, and if it has been opened, and placed in a prescription bottle dispensed by your pharmacy, then its expiration date is a year from when it was dispensed. Harvard Health has some great information available on expiration dates. The way the medication has been stored in the intervening years can also play a role, exposure to heat, light, air, and moisture all aid in degradation. Does anyone know how effective ProSom is compared to Z-Hypnotics as a sleep aid? ## I thought the only benzo capable of GABAA a1 agonism was restoril. Is this also true of doral? The easiest way to target this receptor is with ethanol. there must be something better.

I have received some liquid filled capsules that look fluorescent yellow or very light green. I am promised they are temazepam by Pfizer but I've never ever seen see through capsules. I have a rule where I will not take anything I am not 100% certain of. Can anyone please tell me if there is a see through temazepam gel cap that fits this description ? I've trawled the internet images but the one I find are not see through. I don't want to throw away good stuff but rather that than be a possible fatality. My physician prescribed every benzo drug imaginable (Ambien, Lunesta, sp?) and they were ineffective for my occasional insomnia, at best. He gave me a prescription for Seconal to use as needed. When I tried to fill it you would have thought the Rx said "Opiates" or "LSD". The younger pharmacists had not a clue as to what it was, and the older ones acted like they had seen a ghost. Anyway, I finally found the medication via my home delivery pharmacy and when I need it, I take it and it works. No wiped out memory, no sleepwalking, so groggy aftermath.
