Seroquel For Insomnia (Page 3)

Updated

I have been taking Seroquel for a year now for insomnia. Anybody else take Seroquel for this? I have looked around and it doesn't even seem that Seroquel is normally given to someone for this.

I was recently prescribed seroquel 12.5 mg-50mg at night for sleep.
I tried Trazadone 25mg-250mg and was only able to get 3 hours of solid sleep and had no side effects.
I have tried the Seroquel for 2 nights now and I was able to sleep 6hours solid; not sure about side effects; it feels like I'm really hungry but not sure if its a side effect. It's harder to fall asleep but once asleep it's solid.
I really do wish the trazadone kept me asleep longer as it put me to sleep quick and I felt no side effects at all. Increasing the dose only gave side effects but did not prolong the sleep cycle so 50mg was enough.

So fR with Seroquel I'm at 12.mg and will try for a week then see how I feel (increase to 25mg or stop and go back to trazadone)

Update. I've read all the reviews and I am concerned about gaining weight. I've only been taking seriquel 12.5mg at night for sleep for a few days now and I've been starving; I keep eating, can't get full and wasn't sure if it was hormones or the medication as it's only been a few days..
I'm going to stop taking it and see what happens to my appetite. I'd rather take the Trazadone and sleep good for 3-4hrs and have no side effects then what I've been feeling. I've also been super sluggish, tired and feel weird..

Ambien should be called the new date rape drug. I suffer insomnia and tried ambien. Luckily my bf was home with me that night bc he woke up at 3 am to me making breakfast and chocolate coke (putting news quick in diet coke) and out of my mind. He's a medic and knew the side effects so he put me back to bed. When he tried to put me back to bed I got hyper sexual. Like to where he knew I was really out of it. Anyone remember tiger woods talking of taking ambien and having a crazy libido? (Tiger boning?). Very dangerous drug. I'm a nurse and work ER. When working night shift and notice the completely out of it I know ambien is involved.

For insomnia (ptsd/add/bi-polar related) I tried: Mirtazapine (7.5-60mg), Tramadol (50-250mg), Melatonine (0.1-10mg), Valerian root, 50-900 mg, oxazepam (20-80mg), etizolam (0.1-1 mg) untll i finally got in touch with Seroquel. Seroquel or Quetiapine, dosage ranging from 12.5/50 mg, makes me go to sleep ALWAYS. Its the strongest anti-histamine out there and a very effective sleepaid!

I have the same situation with sometimes taking the med yet my insomnia lasts all night long. I have been doing something different which has provided a better sleep pattern for me. I crush the generic seroquel and mix it with like pudding and it works much quicker. I noticed the seroquel I was being given has a thick coat which makes it harder for our bodies to digest. Try it, I am sure it will work for you. Let me know. my email is {edited for privacy}. Hope you can get a better nights sleep.

Yes doctors prescribe seroquel for sleep, take 1hour before you go to bed. They also suggest no blue light (TV, iPod, phone, tablet, etc)

The blue light from these devises can also make it difficult to fall and stay asleep.

Taking it 1 hour before bed, allows the med to work through your body and you wind down. They say take it at the same time every night and this should provide a good nights sleep.

Hi I read your post about seroquel helping your son sleep but may be increasing his seizures,i was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 14 and am now 44 and i take 500mg of seorquel a night and i really only have seizures now just when i am about to fall into sleep? Strange that i caught your comment and now i am wondering if there is a connection between the pills and my seizures.

Let me make your weight loss easier. At the fitness club I went to, I was told that results are magnified by 4 if you exercise in water b/c of the resistance. 1/2 hr walking in pool is equal to 2 hrs on treadmill. My mom did not raise any dumb kids - I was in the water! Lost 201 lbs in 14 mos. Had gastric bypass BUT it only works if you exercise. Hit the pool babe!

I have read a lot of posts on Seroquel xr.My dr has moved me up tp 150 a night. Nothing yet. Its been months.I have had trouble sleeping for about 8- 9 years. I am now 44. I have tried other meds, herbs, and so on.No prob with my weight. I was thinking of maybe adding 50mg more. If that helps then I would tell my dr. Other wise we have talked about sleep tests. I have had one and they gave me a cpap. That does not help I wake up with a suffocating feeling. Had machine tested they say it works fine. Well we will see where this all goes.

I have been a night RN in an ICU for 3 decades. I retired and even before never could slepp much. I started out on benadryl, rozerem, then moved up to restoril, xanax, ambien, dalmane, even halcion. If it didn't work in 30" it wasn't and usually wouldn't. I at one time was taking 10 25mg benadryl, and 2 1 mg xanax, and even after working 16 hours, could not sleep more than 3-4 hours at best. Point is I finally was told about seraquel, and take one third to a half of a 300mg, and have for 5 months, and sleep like a baby, like never in my life. My mood is better, I feel calmer and mostly due to being rested, so this drug has come through when no other would. The side effects are actually all positive and beneficial. SO whatever people want to think, but it works for me like nothing else!

I have been going back and forth to the doctor for a month for being light-headed. They said it was dehydration. Went back they said it was uti and bronchitis. I still was light-headed, went back and they said high blood pressure and they put me on lisinopril. Couple of weeks went by and still lightheaded, went back to the hospital and they said it was a sinus infection. Still to this day I am still lightheaded and to add to the problem, I can't sleep. After about 2-3 hrs, I am awake for the rest of the day or nite. Can anyone please provide some insight.............

Insomnia first comes without notice. If it is not understood by the patient, slowly it will become chronic, lot of the patients don't understand it's causes or its problems, if it is not properly treated in time or proper drugs or not taken, it will be transformed to psyzophrenia and if proper treatment is still not taken, it will develop hallosinations, both audible and visible, if immediate treatment is not still taken, the patient will become mad man and the society will call the patient as mad person. Quitipin-100 is the best drug at night, should be used life long, it is without side affects. Chronic Insomnia is not curable permanently.

I was prescribed Seroquel for bi-polar disorder but NEVER for insomnia. I had to stop taking ir because I had awful dreams and would fall unexpectedly. Every psychiatrist I saw through my insurance provider tried to push Seroquel on me for one reason or another...I dont like the side effects. Also, even though it would initially make me sleepy after several days the drowsiness would dissipate.
