Seroquel And Weight Gain (Page 5)
UpdatedIs anyone else experiencing weight gain from seroquel? I still work out the same as always, and eat the same way, but I have gained over 20 pounds since i started seroquel 2 months ago. I dont want to stop taking it becasue i finally found a drug that helps, but this is an unacceptable side effect to me, anyone have any tips for dealing with this?
I have been on the 12.5 seroquel for about a month now and no weight gain. I did loose five pounds because i cut out sugar totally and my appetite is as always.
I really think that the dosage has to do with this drug. Since i am bi-polar and tend to have problems with sleep and anxiety attacks and mania a anti-depressant is out of the question. I am on 900 mg of lithium to control the mood swings but it is a low dose and to save my kidneys and liver in the future my doc suggested a little seroquel to help the lithium work. It is and since I haven't gained a pound so far I am hoping for the best.
It seems we are all just different when it comes to this drug.
Be well
I have been on seroquel for over two years. I started with 300 mg and it worked wonders for me. But within six months I had gained 40 lbs even with regular exercise and not changing my pretty healthy diet. I talked to my doctor and she really encouraged me to minimize carbs and focus on portion sizes.
If I'm not strictly dieting, I'm gaining weight. My weight can never just stay the same. Its very frustrating. But after really cutting my portions and carbs, I've lost about 20 lbs.
Out of all the diets I've tried, low carb seems to be the ticket. My doc recommended south beach diet, stating that many patients on seroquel do well on it. Good luck!
I get that..I think I must snore like a bull moose! My nose gets so stopped up..and nothing helps! My husband has started to sleep upstairs! Not only that..I went from a size 10 to a size 18 in less than a year. I am on disabiltiy, and seroquel is awesome for me in that respect, I have actually gone back to college (mostly online) and have an Associates degree now I have started to plateau and am losing a bit at a time..it's the only drug that has really worked for me..I am so hooked on this drug, one day without and I have HUGE issues..(600mg a day) Any ideas on another good mix would be great, but actually, I take Pristiq, Wellbrutrin, The Seroquel, and a small dose of Respridol, and Campral. I am 44 and wish I was in better health.
visteril does not work for everybody...Benadryl makes me wide awake....
i cannot imagine you taking adderall and seraqual from the same Dr...adderall is the reason I'm on seraqual.
thank you i gained 27lbs first month now about 100. cannot seem to loose will note your protein info
that made me laugh. that you take it and then pass out. my dr put me on 200 mgs in teh morning i went back to bed after getting up at eight am and then went back to bed at nine thirty. i woke up at two and went back to bed around four pm then i slept till eight. and i have gained four pounds so far in two weeks. i was on lihtium and gained 80 lbs in seven months. so i am not going to stay on this if i keep gaining weight.
i think it will get worse. i was on lihtium and after losing 168 lbs on wieght watchers for two years my doc put me on lithium and i gained it all back. now after a week of seraquel at one hundred for three days and now two hundred for the rest of treatment i have gained four pounds. so i have been on it for four days. and four pounds. if i keep gaining weight i am going off the drug as it won't get better. you will just baloon up and keep gaining weight,
I been on sequel for over 5 years and never has issues with weigh gain. I am a weight loss surgery participant so this might be the reason why?
hi i feel your pain i started seroquel 600mg back in october last year, i was 55kgs and underweight and then suddenly since jan 14 i have put on 15kgs in about 3wks, i feel disgusted with myself and my weight and cannot figure how to get rid it, i feel like a piece of jelly and thew fact i piles kgs on in a few days has freaked me out, i have a belly that i have never had in my life and i'm pretty mortified with it all. Seroquel is bad for making you also crave sugar but try to stop eating stuff with sugar the weight gain is no different
I also gained alot of weight on it. 85 pounds in 4 months for me i was on 400 mlgs now i take only 50 mlgs because its very hard to get off of plus my psychiatrist Put me on Topamax and I've lost 70 pounds in 4 months. Plus it still helps.

I have gained weight while on Seroquel. After I take it I feel like I'm starving. I lowered my dose and went on a diet.
Before starting seroquel xr 400 mgI was a 00 I didn't diet exercise eat healthy nothing and still stayed small. Within the first year of being on seroquel I gained and went to a size 16. I hate all the weight I gained especially knowing I didn't have to do anything to stay small before. But I also know without this medication I would be unstable. But I'm finally fed up with the weight for the last 6 years that I am changing my eating habits in the last 2 months I don't eat at night I'm walking daily and Ive recently given up soda and with all this I have lost 30 pounds so far. My doctor warned me about the weight gain when I started but I need this med so yes weight gain will continue at least for me it did but I'm finding out that it's also possible to lose weight while taking the medication too just try something different and find what works for u like I did.
I don't have the option to lower my dose we have tried but my biggest weight gain was eating habits I am starving on the meds but I been fighting the feelings, walking and giving up soda and I have lost 30 lbs in 2 months
I went from size 00 to size 16 from this med i have decided to change eating I haven't eaten at night in 2 months bc I take the pill at night and I wake up starving but I try to ignore it now and I am walking daily and given up soda so far in 2 months lost 30 pounds it can be done I have so much more to go but I'm determined
Seroquel pm and cymbalta am. recently prescribed topamax 50 mg at bedtime. been on seroquel one yr. Gained 60 lbs.topamax suppose to help me lose. I eat at night and dont even realize it. can anyone relate.
have been taking 100 mg of Seroquel for 4 months now. And I've gained about 25 lbs! But its got to be because it gives me a ravenous appetite and I take it at night and then uncontrollably gorge on carbs!! I flushed them down the toilet today. I'd rather stay awake all night until I can naturally sleep again then turn into a huge cow!
