Prolia Side Effects Ongoing (Page 2)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I had my infusion Mar 4 2015. I have experienced severe stomach pains, leg pains that wake me up at night, a horrible dry cough, near migraine type headaches, very severe weakness, trouble walking, constipation, had to have dental work that I usually have great teeth, some trouble sleeping. My rheumatologist did nothing to try to help me with the symptoms but my primary doctor gave me medication that help with the stomach pains, take Excedrin for Migraines and enteric aspirin for back and body, and other meds to try and find some comfort. I'm somewhat better than the few weeks after the infusion but still have a lot of problems. Hopefully this doesn't last for 6 months.

Laura (# 177) --

I began by talking about the drug Prolia which caused me to develop a tumor made of bone over my right eye socket. Since then my rheumy tells me there are sufficient cases documented to investigate Prolia for creating boney tumors on the lower palate. But...this discussion (here) has gone on for a few years and somewhere in the chain someone asked about relief for osteo pain including joint pain and inflammation. I said that my friends and I found great relief for those pains from a natural product: hyaluronic acid.

Are you talking about a natural product or Prolia?

Re: Lavettah (# 164) Expand Referenced Message

If the dentist cannot save all of your teeth, you can get a few implants for dentures to attach. That saves your bone in your mouth. Implants are expensive but all dental work is. With Prolia, it's impossible to take good enough care of teeth. I lost two teeth and it was spreading until it ran into a titanium implant and it stopped the Prolia from destroying the remainder. I'm far from the only one here that had roots eaten up by Prolia. One shot was more than sufficient. I'm just glad I survived it. Lost 68 pounds in 3 months. Had everything of everything. Now, years later, certain problems still pop up now and then and it has permanently ruined my hair and nails. It will get better but don't expect a miracle. In the 6th month many things will settle down and others don't. We all have differing bad experiences with Prolia. If you are in the US, you may want to write your problems down and send a letter to your Senators. They have more 'say' with the FDA than our words. Be well~

Thx Daisy. I order the 'pureclinica' product. It's 300mg. This is our last hope to get this pain under control.

It's non-RX. I like the Hydraplenish brand or NOW brand. The capsules are 100 mg. I take 2 a day. I can't begin to tell you all the thanks I have received from folks I have recommended it to. It's all natural... our bodies contain it. It brings moisture into the joints, tissues and skin. It actually helps IBS, too.

I had my first injection of Prolia and probably my last, especially after reading all of this. Now I’m scared. Hopefully everything will be okay. I’m sorry for everyone who has all of these problems.

The Hyaluronic acid you are on....Is that a prescription or is that a supplement? My wife is in such pain, opoids, CBD oils, nothing works...and now nausea and regular vomiting from the use of the meds. Thank you

Re: teddt (# 168) Expand Referenced Message

I understand from my rheumy that there may be a suit against the manufacturers. Info being gathered now. It will focus on the many victims who have developed tumors made of bone and located under the tongue on lower palate. My tumor (because it is over my eye and bridge of my nose will not be included as it is in "the wrong place" to present a unified claim.) But I don't care about that...just get these bone meds off the market. I had two Prolia infusions in 2014 and still have extreme tenderness in the bone tumor it created over my eye —whenever I take any calcium supplements the tenderness returns. The greatest relief I have found comes from hyaluronic acid. I take 400 mg a day and have seen a market benefit.

Re: Wise up janie (# 19) Expand Referenced Message

Hi I wish I had read this blog a year ago. I started Prolia 2/2017. No noticable side effects. Second in Aug. I have been battling inflammations since Oct. First blepharitis both eyes very bad and infection was spreading fast. Never had this before. On antibiotic twice for this and went to quick care 2X, my MD, my eye dr and then an opthalmalogist. Finally got better. Mid Dec. I had infection in right jaw and that was heading down my throat. Another round of antibiotic. After another round, and a tooth extracted last Monday, the infection has returned with a vengenance. On antibiotic again!

The oral surgeon told me that the Prolia interfers with the healing and the antibiotic. So I now have high mgs with this one. Had not taken antibiotics for years. My daughter is a nurse and asked why I was suddenly getting inflammations? I didn't relate to Prolia until seeing the oral surgeon. Plus he was concerned if my jaw bone would have a problem. Fortunately, it didn't. Thanks for letting me vent. I feel betrayed by this drug and information I didn't have to make an informed decision. I thought I had done my research although it was hard to find out much about this drug. I have an appt with the specialist that gave it to me this week.

I am 58 years old and started taking Prolia 3 years ago (6 shots). My oncologist recommended I take Prolia due to my low bone density results and he told me about the few side effects and read the literature and felt they were small risks compared to my bone density. I started getting severe chest pain that permeated through to my back every 6 months. Initially I thought I was having a heart attack and went to emergency. I had a series of heart tests and I was told I have a strong heart. I had a gastroscopy, a Dida scan and all clear. Even though I told doctors I was on Prolia no one associated the drug to my pain and neither did I initially. Nor did I relate the numbness and cramps in my feet to Prolia. I just thought it was all part of the aging process. I had my last shot one month ago and once again I got severe chest pain and started looking up side effects. I was shocked by what I read. I can't wait until the drug is out of my system.

It's been 6 months now from my wife's first Prolia shot. The inflammation at the Ankles, Knees, Neck and Face are finally subsiding. She's still has the loss of taste and smell. Through our research, (no thanks to any Dr.). We found the issue with taste related to a drop in Zinc. For the last month, she is taking 5K UI of liquid Vitamin D. Also 100 UI of zinc, and and product called Jarrow Formulas, Bone-up. 4 of those a day. Her ability to walk without the cane is amazing, also, pain is almost gone on the ankles, knees, shoulders and rib area. The Capillary bleeding in the forearms is subsiding as well. We've managed to halt the loss of weight (35#) since the shot. Forcing her to eat. We will never take that shot and are researching a local attorney to sue Amgen. As she has a compromised immune system, and they never warned us, the side effects could be worse with that condition.

Hi...I am so glad your wife has you to love and support her through all of this... you are amazing! Thank you for what you do...I took oral osteo rxs for 3 or 4 months. They too made me sick with too much acid reflux and just overall poor health. I was told Prolia would be better tolerated by my body... hmmmmm... that didn't quite work out for me... I have the chest tightness, inflamed jibs, headache, rashes, mouth sores, loose and weak muscles, bone and muscle pain, uti, bleeding kidney, gluten intolerance, diarrhea, rapid weight gain, Sogreyns syndrome... hair loss and bad nails... and more... all the best to you both...

Daisy, that's outrageous! It shouldn't matter the location, it should matter that you have it all.

As I'm reading the posts, trying to stay updated. My eyes are burning from unshed tears. This is horrific for all of us.

Hugs,
Nikki

Re: Lavettah (# 164) Expand Referenced Message

Yes on the Doctors. When I bring it up, they really tried at first to shut me down, but then I blew up on one of them...They only listen to the drug sales people and they do NOT do their research. They sit in seminars and listen to the drug companies and not their patients. We are fed up with all of them.

Re: Lavettah (# 153) Expand Referenced Message

I took this prolia shot on 2-19-2016. After about 3-4 days I started having pain in my legs across my hips, in my legs that ran up my spine, in hands, arms, shoulders. Affected my mouth, had sores in my mouth inside and out. Teeth were sore to touch, tooth loss, had 2 root canals within 6 weeks. Had abscess form on jaw bones. Still having trouble with teeth. Knots popped out on elbows, every joint hurt. Stomach sickness. Threw up for 2 days, went to the doctor & had a bad kidney infection, bleeding under the skin, headaches affected my left ear, sores pop out on arms, some bleed, weight gain, losing my hair, my balance was off so bad I fell and stuck a potato digger into my leg 6” went to wound clinic for 6 weeks...My balance is still off so bad some days I hold onto cabinets to get around in the kitchen and lean on the wall to get around the other rooms. I may have to lose all bottom teeth, lost so much bone & will need implants to hold dentures. My insurance wont pay. So the dentist is trying to save my teeth by doing a root canal to see if it will help tighten and hold my teeth. I was in good health prior to this & just had a checkup where my dr. said I can’t find anything wrong with you. Then I took the prolia shot and it nearly killed me. Still having some of the side effects. If this is ever brought to court, count me in, this needs to be stopped. What was bad also was that no doctor would talk to me about it. They refused to say this prolia shot could be at fault.

Re: Poodle (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Poodle, I may look into the law firm you spoke about. I don't think my infections that won't go away, high cholesterol, hair loss, and the eczema will qualify as being bad enough, but I think letting them know won't hurt either. I'm also in Texas.

My rheumatologist said I was just one of those people who can't take any of the osteoporosis drugs. Fibromyalgia people are prone to being sensitive to meds so I'm not totally surprised.

I know the Prolia has aggravated most of my other chronic issues and from the posts I've read on here I'm not the only one.

Someone mentioned Celiac and I can't remember who. Just an FYI of information here on it:

I have gluten intolerance, not Celiac as I was given the genetic evaluation. There is a difference between the two even though the treatment is the same as well as the symptoms. Celiac is a genetic disease and you must have both of the genetic markers. There is also a bowel cancer that people with Celiac can get. Having only 1 of the markers plus all the symptoms, I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance. I'm surprised I don't have more nausea, stomach pain constipation/diarrhea/gas-bloating issues from the Prolia than I do with my numerous gut issues.

I hope you are finding ways to eradicate this garbage from your body as that's what I'm about to investigate.

Hugs and be well!

Re: teddt (# 161) Expand Referenced Message

I never had pain, the tenderness and the growth of bone on my eye socket began two months after the first shot. It accelerated with weeks of the second shot. It got real tender after taking another bone med and at that point I have refused all bone meds. I was on Boniva IV for 3.5 years when I turned gently and fractured my spine in 5 places. No Bone meds for me...pain or no pain.
