Prolia Side Effects (Page 9) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
I have been diagnosed officially with ONJ - Drug Induced. And my doctors are reporting it to the FDA. I think this is the first step.
I had my first and last Prolia injection early January. I am ( still trying to be) an active 57yr old who after 2 weeks of getting the injection am experiencing terrible leg, feet, hip, groin, and now jaw pain with occasional dizziness. This injection is making my life miserable. I researched Prolia prior to my injection, but was told at my doctor that it is very unlikely to have side effects. Are the doctor clueless?I see nothing positive online from anyone. This injection should not be on the market
I am glad to hear that your had no side effects.
I had my first Prolia injection in July 2014. About 10 days l later I experienced quite severe joint and muscle pain. Since I have moderate arthritis I did not connect the pain to the Prolia. Mr family Dr. put me on a steriod which took care of it.
On January 20, 2015 I had my second Prolia injection. On Feb. 1 I noticed a rash on my legs and elbows. It was quite large and developed white pus centers. No pain or itching connected to the rash. Weird, right?
Feb 3rd, could not get out of bed. Severe, terrible joint and muscle pain. Stiffness so bad I needed assistance to walk.. To complicate things further, I was on vacation and out of the country. I was able to email my Dr. and he arranged for Prednesone to be called to a CVS in Spain. It helped a lot.Today is Feb 14. I am still having some hip pain, although bearable.
Those of you that have no side effects, wonderful. For those of us that have side effects they can be life threatening. I have been told that, for me anyway, the side effects will get worse if I continue treatment.
Had my 6th Prolia injection yesterday and have experienced first side effects. Have terrible itching going on initially in groin area and also arms, fingers and face. Very diasappointed as have tried many drugs prior to using Prolia, without success. My last bone density test indicated improvement for me. I will not take Prolia again so need to look for an alternative drug.
To deal with the horrible side effects of Prolia after my Fifth shot, excuse me, I thought I had taken Four, I used prednisone which gave me terrible mood swings. I am now through with that and I listen to free meditation tapes on my iPad. I do not know what else to do.i drink lots of water hoping somehow the Prolia will wash out. Doctors who prescribe the drug are just interested in bone growth and it does do that But really detrimental to the rest of the body. Sometimes the smell of food makes me ill. For months I was not able to lay my head on a pillow because my scalp felt like it was attacked by pins and needles. The doctors of course say they never heard that before and I say you are hearing it now. Stay strong and be thankful for the short time in between when we feel somewhat better. No time to be an atheist we need lots of prayer
Hi Victoria. I was hoping to hear from you again. You were on my mind all day today at work. I am copying and pasting my comment for you (it was #583 at least from what I see). Are you planning to report to the FDA? Good for you if you are planning to. They need to hear from as many of us as possible. Yes, my dad started losing weight within the first 2 weeks after the infusion and has continued to lose up to this day. I hope you can see all the rest of my comments on this site as well to see all he's had happen. I think I have read every comment on here that have been posted by all the people. One day I hope I will find the right professional to listen to me. I've tried to explain dad's situation to so many doctors and they have all sloughed me off so far.
If you go to fda.gov then on the very first page, on the left hand side under Recalls and alerts, click on Medwatch/Safety Alerts (in blue), on the next page you will see a reddish/orange box that says "Report a Problem", click that and on the right side you'll see Consumer/Patient in a blue box. Once you click that it should say "About Problem" and just follow down and fill in any information that you wish. I didn't list all meds taken or any of that. I basically gave them all the side effects and poor health my dad has been in since the inj., lack of prescribing doctor knowledge, lack of ER doctor knowledge at all, etc. Please let me know if I can help further. I hope this helps.
My dad passed away On Saturday. His true decline started In August 2014, 2 days after his first Prolia injection(read all previous posts). None of his side effects were ever monitored by his doctor, and we have no idea what his bones look like being 8 months after the lethal drug (I would like to know but was told a bone scan would not be feasible at this point) so I will always wonder since he had so much "bone pain" during his last weeks and it got worse each day. His hip and leg bones including shin bones, knees hurt so bad he could barely stand it and required much morphine (he was on Hospice care at home) to try to control the bone pain. I hope you will all continue to tell people about this awful drug and I wish all of you well. I hope one day there will be a lawsuit or some act that will get this drug off the market. Deep in my mind I know that won't happen as once these drugs are on the market, I think its almost impossible to get them off the market. I pray for all of you who are having problems after Prolia.
I wish I had read this site before I had taken my first shot of Prolia. If you haven't taken that 1st shot don't. There are too many side effects.
I just wrote to the FDA to ask them to please take Prolia off the market. This is a living Hell. I wonder if taking out my blood and having someone else's T-cells put in mine would help. It would have to be done numerous times since Prolia deletes our immune system which is basically T-cells.
I received a PROLIA shot about 2 1/2 years ago and as the nurse was getting ready to inject me she said this may cause joint pain, and I said "Wait, I have FIBROMYALGIA" she injected me anyway saying oh, this won't make it that bad. Well, let me tell you,,the first 6 months were hell, as I was in bed most of the time sick with Upper Respiratory symptoms. My fibromyalgia is so much worse that I have to quit work and take a lot of very strong pain meds. I have particular pain in my knees and hips. My body stiffens up after sitting only 30-45 minutes. I am 60 y/o and most days I feel 100.
Sorry to be negative, but I had my one and only shot on August 11, 2011. It will be 4 years on the 11. No change in anything. DONT TAKE IT. It changed me all over. Am now nursing a stress fracture. Have had problems with bones, teeth, muscles, skin, body temperature. I have tried to dismiss it but it is hard to do. Was really active but not anymore just do what I feel like
doing. Pray for strength.
Anne~
Sleeplessness is a side effect of the prolia. I would ask your doctor for something. I take Alprazolam. It's for anxiety and it helps me sleep about 6 hours. I was sleeping 2-3 so it was a vast improvement. We need sleep to get through this so I would ask for something until you can sleep on your own. I would also ask for something that you can't get hooked on. Alprazolam is very inexpensive and I don't wake groggy. I had my shot on 08/03/15 and without taking something, I'm lucky to sleep 3 hours a night. I am also on steroids for the pain and they also cause sleeplessness. Everything we take has a side effect of some sort so the less you can get by with the better. BUT you need sleep to heal.
If you are still taking Prolia, get off of it. It causes itching, rashes can be as many
as 3 different kinds. Acid Reflux, muscle aches and dental problems. They will
try to convince you that you are being helped but it is just not true. I cannot
begin to tell you that I am just now starting to feel a little relieved since my
last shot in Feb 2015. I am never, never taking another shot of that medicine
because even the Amgen company that makes it, says that they are still getting
complaints about Prolia and by the way they are still running trial test on this
stupid stuff. It is a racket and doctors are making a killing off Prolia. I am finished and never intend to go back on it. You can take my word for it I have researched
and searched and have found a lot of complaints about Prolia. Not one person has
been successful taking Prolia. Most of the people that I found out last week
have developed basal cell carcinoma, which I have found a place on my chest
and it is that and I plan to have it removed in two weeks. It has already been
tested and that is what it came back as so that is another important reason that
I am not taking this anymore. It needs to be outlawed and removed from the
medicines for bones.
Hi all~I was just playing on the net and found various legal firms that are looking for Prolia victims. Most of them seem to be on the broken thigh bone but not all of them -- some just state if you had any bad problems with Prolia or Xgeva, call us. Those that are still in misery may want to make a call. The manufacturer of a previous bone enhancement drug got sued and lost so perhaps it's past Amgen's time to get sued and lose. If I were not well from it, I would have called. Your decision to make~Pood
Hello Moms and welcome~True, many Doctors are recommending Prolia. Then after all our side effects start up, they have no idea what to do for us. Prolia has to be taken every 6 months for 10 years to truly be effective according to the manufacturer, Amgen. I had a broken back and 4 breaks in my hips. It was much more preferable than Prolia. Prolia does make bone but it is brittle bone so what have you gained by taking Prolia? Search the net well before you take that first injection because there is no way on this Earth to get it out of your body. Prolia is really a 'chemotherapy' drug and you most probably will have all the problems people have with chemo. Your immune system will not be working well. Look on Amgen's own site at the side effects from their clinical trials. Do you want that? The FDA in the US is continually updating cautionary info for our Docs to read about Prolia as if they really read about more and more problems we are having with Prolia. Please tell your Doc you pass and would prefer something else. There are also other internet sites that list the side effects in great detail. My Dr. pushed me into it for which she greatly apologized and told me I have every reason to HATE her. Get all dental work done first. Get dental clearance. Make sure you have a pre-injection blood test to test your calcium level. Read the Dear Patient letter. Be informed. We have numerous threads on Prolia. Read all of them~Pood
So, Moms, Your post is from Saturday. Does that indicate you had the injection or are going to have it next week if you are in North America? There are easily 1000 people on different threads of MedsChat that write how badly we feel and need help which doesn't come and you decide to go with the poison Prolia. Care to tell us your reasoning? We would really like to know. This is not counting Forums in Australia where they are just as unhappy and suffering like we are in North America. You believe the FDA has nothing better to do than put more cautions on Prolia? The next injection for me will be over by dead body. You will have no needed surgeries because you won't have much of an immune system nor can you go to your dentist. You cannot even have a flu or pneumonia vaccine. You can only go to the specialists for ONJ and teeth problems. If you think for one second your Doctor is going to help you when the pain and problems of Prolia set in, forgidaboudit. What about lawyers looking for Prolia victims do you fail to understand?
Hi all, I haven't posted since December. It seems that after a full year my symptoms have subsided. I am now free of the blisters the stiffness and pain. I don't know if anything is going on inside of me. I guess I'll know more when I have my bone density test in April. I had my last Prolia injection January 20th 2015. This horrible drug has stolen a year of my life.
Whenever I have gotten my blood pressure taken it is good, I wear support stockings and even had my protruding varicose veins taken out because Dr. thought my swollen ankles were from poor circulation in legs. That was over a year ago. After second shot my ankles blew up again, it was then that I realized everything was first shot. Unfortunately, I didn't realize after first shot all my issues were from that and like an idiot I took another one. Thank goodness I went to a new GP who told me DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG. Now hopefully not too late I learned my lesson. I am not taking anything. I will get my flu shot and that is it. I have been through cancer, chemo and radiation and at least they had an end, this seems to be no end in sight. It is very depressing to not feel well everyday for so long.
I forgot to mention earlier when I joined this site that when I stopped Prolia my calcium level was 10.5 and my primary physician took me off of all calcium that I was taking, my calcium level is coming down slowly but not where he wants it to be this of course is in addition to the eczema on legs and red bumps on arms and itching all the time. Acid reflux started when I went on Prolia. I have been treating that and it is improving in addition to sore muscles and bones. It is a disaster what this medicine can do to you and no one should ever take it.
I have been off Prolia for 10 months no side effects while taking injections, however I now am having upper leg muscle pain in both legs I have no back issues and have never had these issues before, I know they say this is possible side effect when taking but no one seems to have withdrawal issues after stopping I am trying to find other women with after effects. I really believe my problem is from this drug
