I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

I have had severe reactions to Boniva and Actonel (as well as other drugs). I've avoided taking prescription drugs, but, like you, my doc says these bad side effects "just don't happen". Maybe they aren't common, but going from healthy to disabled because of a drug that may or may not help... it just isn't worth the risk.

I developed severe back pains after my first shot of Prolia. I told my GP and he was horrified. He said he has just given Prolia to another of his patients and the patient developed severe back pains too.
My GP agrees that I should not have another shot of this drug and will be phoning this other patient to tell him that it is the Prolia that has caused the back pains and apologise to him.
I am just so thankful that my GP is so sympathetic to this. And I am lucky that I have a strong immune system and have no other adverse effects. I am going to continue with weight bearing exercise to keep my bones strong.

I have had 3 prolia shots over a period of one and a half years. A month and a half after my third shot I started having pain in my right leg and found out I had a stress facture in my femoral neck. I had done nothing at out of the ordinary to cause a stress fracture. The doctor that perscriped prolia said prolia was not the cause but the orthopedic doctor said it was because the stress fracture that I had is seen in athelets and I had done nothing athletic. I was on crutches for 8 weeks and then it took about that long to get to where I didn't limp. Now my other leg is having pain in it and I am afraid that I could develop a stress fracture it that leg now. My husband and I enjoy walking and hiking but I can't do that any more since long walks and hikes make my leg hurt worse. It has been 7 months since my last shot and the pain won't go away. How long will the pain last---will it ever go away??? Prolia is a dangerous drug and it should be taken of the market. If someone has had similar stress fractues and continual pain in their leg let me know if the pain will eventually go away.

I have had 3 Prolia injections. I have crohn's and Ulcerative colitis. These diseases were treated by so many rounds of high steroid dosages, one of the highest, being 140mg per day for 3 months. Of course there were many other different "treatments" that didn't work either. But, little did I know that the massive amounts of steroids would cause bone density loss.........therefore, after several oral treatments to treat my bone problems, with various adverse reactions, my Dr. decided on Prolia. I have never felt so bad in my life........as if dealing with my daily bowels issues wasn't enough. My back especially, is aching constantly and well as shoulders, legs, etc. Dr. laughingly said it was GROWING PAINS..... I am a 48year old female, diagnosed with my bowel disorders at 22. REALLY. To top all this off, I had shingles about 7 years ago. Since I had the prolia injections, I have had the shingles 4 more times. I have it now and I just occurred to me to research the chances of the Prolia injection possibly being the cause of so many outbreaks. The first time I had shingles, I thought you could only get it once.........Haha..another joke on me!!! I wonder is there any drug that has benefits outweighing the side effects???????

It is sad to see all of the sufferings and pain caused by Prolia and still some doctors are convinced that if is the best med in the market. I want to tell everyone that we must be our own advocate and that knowledege is power.

My husband had this injection on February 10, 2014. He was advised by his Dr. To take this medicine due to osteoporosis caused by prolonged use of steroids for his asthma and copd. I was concerned because I've read the side effects and what it can cause plus my husband had already had major abdominal surgery in the past. To make a long story short he was admitted into the February 11, 2014 and had to have abdominal surgery again...I told them at the hospital it began with that injection because he was fine and then boom... Of course the have denied this...

Prolia was only tested on approx 7,800 people for three years. Half received Prolia the other half non active ingred. in Prolia. Both group reported bone and muscle pain. Amgen did no long term follow up on side effects. The side effects don't magically go away in 6 months. It seems like we are coming up on the three year mark that this drug has been admin to the public. Also seems like people are experiencing more side effects the more they take this drug. Average bone growth in three years spine 8.8% hips 6.4% . Call Amgen health to report problems. Then report to FDA

I am allergic to boniva and other osteo meds.. so doctor talked me into a Prolia shot..said it was a wonder shot and I wouldnt have the issues I was having from the oral meds. I knew better, but i finally said ok. As luck would have it, I am one of the 9 percent who is allergic to the Prolia shot. It has been over six months since I had it and I am still suffering from eczema and hives that started a week after the shot. I have had to get different medicines to help with itching; also taking "oatmeal" baths, and buying lots of special bathing products an moisturizers. Hopefully, this leaves my body soon. Listen to yourself when in doubt about a shot.

I have had two Prolia injections and was due for the third on June 11th. I did not have this treatment because I found out how this drug works. I also suffered side effects such as very severe constipation, burning and pain in hhips and back, rashes on both arms and numerous others.

Prolia works by stopping the body's own bone remodeling process. No new bone is formed and the old bone cells stay in situ, giving an increase in bone density. This results in a higher risk of fracture due to the old denser brittle bones.

In my opinion Prolia should be further investigated or removed from the market altogether!

Please tell me if there are any legal advances after so much time. My sister is in Canada and going through the hell so many have described. Is there no legal action yet?

If you have read what I have said as well as other people on this forum, you will stay well away from Prolia.

This drug increases bone density, but with old bone cells making a fracture more likely.

Good luck whatever you decide!

Hey Anonymous,
I can only assume by your questioning and the fact that we're talking that you too have had much suffering in your life as well. I'm terribly sorry for your pain, as I would not wish the circumstances which bring us together here upon anyone, much less someone as nice as yourself...
I've honestly no idea from whence to derive truthful answered as opposed to those given us by others with their purposefully misleading and/or deceitful answers, told to us mostly by those who need to recoup the research and development dollars spent to first create, then "insure" the pharmaceuticals are approved by the FDA. I have lost all trust, confidence and respect for these who deny the most obvious side effects, claiming them "impossible" until the empirical evidence and medical testing is so undeniable that they fold and confess "off the record" only to have the conversation heard and verified by many...
It's a dishonest world, our Dr's have been every bit as ill informed and misled as we patients, however if we speak out with the slight piece of truth we've become privileged to, we are discounted as lunatics and personally, my credibility and integrity were called into question. It was at that point I became so incensed and angered by the denials I found a medical professional willing to hear me and act. This led to the entire staff at the Oncology Center becoming aware of my personal side effects and adding the most unbearable of them to their own in house documentation as well as their Patient Information Sheets handed to each and every prospective Prolia patient for their own concideration prior to the actual injection.
The side effect of most great importance to me of all I had was the nearly immediate loss of my wits. Within days of the injection, I had begun to lose focus and concentration abilities. Approximately 10 days after, the confusion that set in was so intense I could not finish a sentence if in fact I was even able to get the thought verbalized before it was forgotten. I was however more than aware of what was happening to me and it was even more pronounced in the looks of fear, sadness and pity I received from my Bride of 25yrs and my family, as they watched in horror the once intelligent, highly educated writer/author I am simply fade into nothingness. No longer able to answer even the most simple of questions, the frustration was most disconcerting and frightening, as I did not know at that time if this debilitation was to be temporary or if I were to be permanently only a shadow of my prior self.
I'm grateful to God the side effect was temporary for the most part when after nine weeks I was once again able to cognitively function. The side effect had been fading slowly however I've never before known the Hellish confines of a mind nearly completely lost, taking all I am with it.
It's been nearly five months now since the injection. I still have what my wife and I have come to call "Brain Days", though we were never given an explanation other than dehydration as a possible cause for this incredulous issue. These " Brain Days" are rather few and far between now, perhaps twice to three times per week I'm at a loss for clear thinking. Dehydration I assure you has never been, nor is it now an issue though the electrolytes in Gatorade were a help in overcoming the longer periods of complete confusion. These days I might even have a partial "Brain Day" with the confusion not setting in until mid-afternoon. For this I am also grateful.
Unfortunately, the only bone growth to be found is in the form of multiple and severe stenosis within my spinal canal, now placing great internal pressure on the spinal cord from C-3 through C-7, an area that had not been effected by the Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis prior to August according to the most recent imaging. The films from August clearly show what had not been in just May, again, prior to the late June injection. I sought out bone growth and that is precisely what I got. Perhaps I wasn't specific enough with exactly where we'd wanted it. The bone density tests still show my hips at only 27% ...
This is where our need for an impractical sense of humor is supposed to save us from depression. Fortunately, my sense of humor and my faith remain in tact.
Although you and I don't know each other, I will indeed be keeping you in my prayers. It would appear my prayers for others have done far more good than my prayers for myself so it is to that end I have committed myself.

My oncologist prescribed Prolia and told me to watch for side effects. I had the shot on Dec. 31st 2013 and didn't seem to have any side effects. But by July when I was due again my jaw hurt. It didn't hurt bad and I still don't know if it was from the Prolia, but I suspect it was. I would never take another shot of it nor would I recommend it to anyone else. I saw my dentist in August and he didn't see any connection to the drug?? he recommended I use hot and cold packs and if it doesn't stop the pain he would have me wear something in my mouth at night and see if that helps. I've not contacted him again, I'm just hoping it goes away.

True, the jaw pain is typical. I had it and eventually it turned into ONJ. I don't know about your case, but any use of Fosamax, Reclast and Prolia are very detrimental to the health.
I wish God's blessings. Avoid these medications at all cost if possible.

DP girl: Sent a letter to FDA last year. Just sent another letter to FDA on updates. I can only hope that if enough of us report the FDA will review this drug.

Thank you for your response. I wish you the best and hope you are on the road to recovery.

My wife began taking by injection Prolia Dec. 5, 2014. Doctor gave us a sales pitch promoting Prolia and it's wonderful benefits. We asked him what the side effects might be. He said that the only thing my wife might experience would be discomfort-swelling-rash at the site of inj. He completely down-played any other side effects (did not tell us of any other side effects).

My wife is experiencing a great deal of pain in the sides of her legs, hips and across her mid-lower back. She is also, experiencing terrible explosive diarrhea. She now has headaches at least twice a week. She is now experiencing a bone grating sound in her jaw.
We just recently went online to see what the side effects were---we were shocked beyond words. Among all the possible side effects this drug has, it also, is listed as a cancer therapy drug. One source stated that person should not be vaccinated while on this drug---the drug effects the immune system.

I am actually afraid for my wife's health right now. I simply do not know how all this is going to turn out.
