Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

Patricia. Happy you didn't have any ill effects like the majority who post on here. and how much did your bones improve? Thanks for any info. Will you take more infusions? Amgen is saying it might take 10 years for improvement.

WOW! Patricia. That is down right amazing. You are a rare person indeed and, in the end, I hope it is everything they tell you it will be. When are you going in for a bone density scan so you will know how much has been deposited? Stay well~Pood

Victoria~how much calcium is that per day? I did not understand what you wrote. Each pill has that much in it or all three of them in a day do. Please explain. Thank you~Pood

Poodle, what it says on the container is that the calcium is 550 (as MCHC) 550mg I don't know what the MCHC means. I do that add'l calcium each day1200 mg. but this OSAplex was recommended by a friend who said it helped her and she does everything natural. It has helped me. Like I said,, I had the one shot of Priolia in June2014 with side eff. so I stopped, then started this product in and my last BD had a little better results. I don't know if it was wishful thinking on my part but I am happy so I continue to take it.Maybe it's the other ingredient that are in it also. I copied everything as it is written on the container.

Poodle, I just started on medicare so I don't know how they work as fare as bone density test. I had one done last July before medicare. If medicare allows one I will see if I can have one this Jule as well. If I can I will keep everyone updated as well.

Have there been any studies done on "after effects" when stopping Prolia? I was on it for 3 years with no side effects, however, My last inject was 1/15 and I did not get the June injection. In last fall I started have upper leg muscle issues (which are suppose to be possible side effects when taking. Are there any studies of withdrawal or issues when stopping Prolia?

Hi Nancy! Thank you for posting your experience on here. I have no idea about the "after studies" but maybe someone else on this site can answer that. I AM curious however why you didn't get the June infusion and am also curious as to how your bone scan is Now compared to Before the infusions. Did you see a lot of improvement, any improvement? thanks for any info.

It is true that the bone built up from Prolia starts to go away immediately after stopping Prolia and it is not healthy bone, it's brittle bone. That's one reason I've not even bothered to ask for a scan. Amgen says a person has to take it for 10 years and apparently that is one of the reasons for their on-going 10 year clinical trial. On a new commercial on TV last night, it was all about bad side effects and "Prolia builds your bones with only two injections a year". They have all the new FDA info in the commercial now. You can keep it healthy yourself by taking the correct amount of supplements and do light weight bearing exercises. You can have Salmon-Calcitonin as it is a nasal spray. Docs like to say it doesn't work but I know for 100% sure it does. Have you tried Reclast or Boniva? They are injections too. Reclast is once/year and Boniva is more often. Prolia is supposed to be reserved for the people for whom all other drugs failed. It is true one has to take a 'holiday' while on the latter two. If you read Amgen's material very carefully, I'm sure you will find out about the bone reversal problem when quitting it. Be well~Pood

Oh my... I just got my first injection of Prolia on Monday the 18th. I googled side effects because I've been constipated ever since the injection, plus a bloated feeling and anxiety already. I tried on a pair of jeans that have always fit me and they are now tight in the waist. I am 54 and a small person and was diagnosed with Osteopenia after I fell and broke a wrist, my numbers from the bone scan were not terrible...maybe a 2.2-2.4 in the hip area. Now I feel I have made a mistake accepting to take this drug. What scares me also is I have hair loss to begin with and what else am I going to see since it's only been 5 days? Well it's too late to do anything now but treat the side effects. :(

Treva~Prolia is a drug that is only supposed to be used on people for whom none of the other medications worked. It is for severe osteoporosis, not osteopenia. I am so very sorry your MD made a mistake and put you on this horrible poison. Hopefully, you will be luckier than most and not have all the horrible side effects. The hair loss seems to last far beyond the 6 months of Prolia. You will notice on the side effects it says: unexplained weight loss or gain.
Please keep posting so we can give you some suggestions for your Doctor as they seem to not understand Prolia at all. Just know you need to be very careful now as your immune system is not working well. Stay away from people as much as possible. We can always alcohol our hands but there are lots or 'bugs' in the air we can catch. Go to Amgen's website and read all the possible side effects. When you get something, call them and the FDA if in the USA. We have successfully gotten more info on the labeling of Prolia by contacting the FDA. Hopefully, we can get it off the market. Be well~Pood

Poodle, thank you for your reply. After I read some of the comments, i knew my dr had made a mistake! I can just hope and pray that I don't have too many more side effects from this and will not be continuing the program. I made the mistake of never taking vitamins or supplements in my life although I have always exercized and taken care of myself. I just believe I broke my wrist badly because of the circumstances of my fall. I should have never agreed to be on a drug, let alone this one.

Treva~it's too late now so make your Dr. stand accountable for every side effect you get. It's not a matter of taking supplements before. If one eats correctly they could be unnecessary until we get to a certain age. Now you have to have 1200mg of Calcium twice per day with each having 1000IU's of Vit. D and add in 1500 mg of Magnesium per week. Prolia LOVES Calcium and the human body really cannot store it except in our muscles so that's why there are so many aches and pains with Prolia. The more you can keep it from attacking your body the better. You could also ask for a IV of plasma to help your blood with the Prolia. It's quite expensive so don't know if your insurance would cover it. Don't be overly surprised if you get referred out to a cardiologist and a psychiatrist too. Obviously you know Doctors do not understand this drug very much at all.

I am totally unable to tell you how sorry I feel for you with this huge mistake. Stay well~Pood

poodle, I hear what your saying about the other ingredients in OSAPlex. And thank you for the info. So far it has worked for me, it might be "mind over matter" but so far I'm ok with it. I'll continue to keep you updated.

I took Prolia injections for 3 years with no side effects and increase density, however, I wanted to take a break after 3 instead of 5 since no long terms studies. I am now having upper leg cramping and not sure if it is withdrawal of the drug from my system. Can't find any info for after effects

Nancy~you are the second now to complain of after effects from stopping Prolia. I have searched every nook and cranny of the net trying to find some info on this problem but there is nothing there. You will find the other lady a few pages back. Hopefully, your body will return to normal soon and just because you have not taken the next injection does not mean in the least that you don't have Prolia in your body -- just not as much. Be well~Pood

It depends on the side effects one is having -- some people here are 3 years out and can barely walk. It seems to be very individualized. I was the typical person - 5 mos. and got a lot better and by six it was pretty much gone. I still have the muscle problem from where it was injected that goes up to my mouth. Now that we are having better weather I can go and get it dry needled to break it all up. Dr. refuses to take me off of sleep meds until I have finished 11 months. His view is better to be safe than sorry. There are arrows on these pages so you can read previous posts. You may want to go back to the beginning of 2015 and start reading and that will get you up to now. I would certainly call and ask Amgen why am I having side effects from your drug after I stopped it. They ran a 10 year study so someone may admit to something. If you get no help from Amgen, report it to the FDA if you are in the USA.
