Prolia Side Effects (Page 58) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
Re: Maritere (# 2227)
I am so very sorry that this has happened to you. This company has a great deal of power and influence. My relatives in Europe tell me that this drug is commonly used there.
Anyway, I have found relief in an anti inflammatory diet. The plan I have used is from a book called INFLAMMATION NATION by Chilton. About 6 weeks ago I switched to this plan and have begun to feel better, after a very long cycle. I have developed enough strength to do light exercise again (chair exercises, chair yoga), a walking indoors from a DVD, etc. I have lost 6 of the 17 pounds I gained, my rashes and intense itching are gone also. I too had begun to show my age, and now people can't believe that I am on the verge (tomorrow) of 70. I am thinking positively that my good health will continue.
Be well.

I'm so sorry to hear of your experience with Prolia. I, too, am Canadian, and can relate to your frustration. The doctor who prescribed the Prolia for me also, when I told her my many reactions, said that she'd never had a patient develop side effects.( I might add that she's a gynocoligist ....not a bone specialist) As my side effects didn't really manifest themselves until shortly after the 3rd injection, it took a friend of mine to suggest it might be the Prolia! I think as Canadians we sometimes are too polite and don't want to make waves! Not me, I called Amgen, spoke to one of the drug specialists who also said he'd heard of no others with complaints! I sent a report to Canada Health in Ottawa and got a phone call asking me for a list of all my side effects. As for your eyes, I never associated a problem I have had after I had laser treatment for glaucoma . The day after I developed severe stabbing pain in my eye. So bad that the only relief was to keep it covered so I couldn't blink. After seeing several ophthalmologists I ended up at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto where I was diagnosed with severe dry eye syndrome and was prescribed Restasis. Very expensive and I do get stinging in the eye but it eventually helped. Whether this will help your situation, I don't know. As my immune system was compromised as was yours and others using Prolia, I lost a front tooth, developed muscle and bone pain to the point that I developed a rotator cuff tear for which I'm receiving cortizone injections and physio on a weekly basis!$$$
Then there are mouth sores......I could go on .i have had a couple of doctors and an oral surgeon agree that it was Prolia that probably is the culprit. I find that reading the side effects that others are experiencing most helpful because it validates what I am dealing with and also, at times, helps me realize that some things I hadn't attributed to Prolia, in fact, are because of this awful drug. It's been a little over a year since my last injection and the cycles are slowly dissipating. I wear a flipper for my missing front tooth and hopefully will be getting an implant soon! You appear to be a very pro- active person who is advocating for your health and I hope that sooner rather than later you'll be back to your former self. I'm very dissapointed in the medical field for not showing more compassion and understanding of their patients complaints. It seem that many of them are on the side of big pharma!!

Re: JenjiOz (# 2255)
Is there any color related to your cloudiness or is it just plain cloudiness? Have you been in now to have a look at the lens of the eye or eyes that this occurred in? Cataracts are known to be caused by Prolia and with me it seemed to happen really quickly rather than the normal slowly. It was almost like one day not there and the next there which is pretty much medically impossible but Prolia sure does the impossible with BAD side effects. It would be worth a look by your optometrist as s/he can shine in your eye and see the lens. If I remember well, eye is dilated for this so make sure you have a ride home and dark glasses or hide your face under a heavy scarf so the sun cannot get into your eyes. Please let us know what the results are. Be well~
Re: JenjiOz (# 2255)
I understand about lethargy, weakness. For me it came in cycles. The last one lasted 6 months.
Today is one year since my last shot. I seem to be getting stronger and resuming activities
I don't know if I will ever fully recover, only time will tell.
Re: Marion (# 2254)
Here I can see more. Pain in the thigh bone should be checked immediately by X-ray or MRI. Prolia causes the femur (thigh bone) to break in two for no apparent reason. Also jaw pain - could possibly be if you got any injection of Prolia in your arm. There is a muscle that leads on up to the jaw area. It lasted about 6 years and is finally gone now. At first I thought I was getting ONJ so had my dentist look at it and he said all is fine. However, on the other side Prolia did eat up the roots to two large molars in the back and I felt no pain with that. If you are on blood thinner then you cannot have Evista which is a good one but not all of us can have it and the other is one made by Merck. You have to sit straight up for approximately two hours after taking the pill every day. They have been sued so many times and have millions stashed in a fund for suits against them. Did your Dr. try any of the bis's on you like Reclast or Boniva. They both come with problems and don't work for all but have less bad side effects than Prolia. Our Doctors need to realize that Prolia is the 'last ditch effort' when ALL of the other drugs have FAILED. It seems now they want to bring out Prolia first which was never Amgen's intention nor that of the FDA. Reclast just gave me a severe headache and some nausea for a year and I was not worth a darn and it did zero for my bones. At least I didn't suffer for longer than a year and I could have done it faster with Boniva because it only lasts 6 months, not a full year.
Re: Poodle (# 2261)
The drug company told me that they have no dental complaints from Prolia and I know that is not true. I would love to sue them and get this poison off of the market but they have big money and I don’t know of any attorney that would take them on.
Re: JenjiOz (# 2249)
I just reread your post. I could be mine. In spite of being on an anti-inflammatory diet, my weight kept creeping up. My body was clearly inflamed. Finally, it was my Derm. who listened. He ordered blood work which showed elevate CRP, proof of inflammation. I reviewed natural remedies and found recommendations for Adrenal Fatigue. I am making progress in reducing my symptoms, and have lost 10 pounds. My digestion is better, and less itching and fatigue. My joints are, I think permanently enlarged, but less swollen and painful. Since the diet was restrictive, I returned to Weight Watchers. At this point, whatever will be will be. No more meds, not even for the Cholesterol that also became elevated.
Re: JenjiOz (# 2249)
I should add, my side effects also began 3 months after my first shot; and then stupidly took another shot. You are not alone. Why I kick myself is that I am well acquainted with Dr. Fishman and his Yoga study. I think if I still lived in New York I would have gone straight to him, but I didn't.
Re: Linda (# 2266)
This drug should not be on the market. Every has gone wrong and dental.
I have had 3 rounds of Pamidronate infusions which have allowed me to get out of a wheelchair and able to walk again for short distances. They now wish me to change to the Prolia inj., but I have been reading about dreadful side effects so don't know what to do. Anyone tried both?
Re: Marion (# 2280)
I just saw the FDA's list of complaints from the victims of Prolia. 56 or 59 women in the USA got DVT's from Prolia. Now, start counting how many that would be since Prolia has been released worldwide. It is nice to see government reporting it but it should give them the information needed that this drug should not be on the market. Now you know exactly whom to blame and you can tell your Doctor. DVT's can easily be lethal! Be well~
Re: Giralda (# 2288)
This drug is nothing but toxin. I won't take it if it was the only hope, but you will suffer more. It has been just a year since my mom had one shot and she still suffers because of it.
Re: Terri (# 81)
I had Prolia shots, have had a number of dizzy spells and have had four really falls, resulting in bad injuries. As with you fortunately I was not driving. Prolia is a horrible drug and should only used for bone cancer patients, as it was originally for. I also have really bad aches which I never had before taking Prolia. I wish I had researched it before ever taking a shower. Afraid I will never be the same.
Re: Forever Bummed (# 2295)
I agree with you. It was a horrible drug for me and I am very angry that my doctor prescribed it to me without telling me the horrible side effects. Prolia is horrible. I have reported it a number of times to the FDA, for what good that may do!! Sorry about your Dad.
Re: Gloria (# 2296)
Prolia is horrible! I have had 3 injections. Never again!
I have had 3 Prolia injections and am thinking about stopping them. I’ve read that you need to be on this drug for 10 years before stopping or else you have a high chance of fractures. Does anyone have better information?
Re: Sara (# 2305)
I ddn't know about quitting prolia causes fractures!! I'll ask my Dr. I have had 3 injections thus far and due for another in May. I am done! I will never get another one!!
Re: Sara (# 2305)
If you stop, the dead bone cells from Prolia will quit forming bone density. The problem is that the density is made of dead cells so they don’t continue to grow. Then dead bone Cell density was not worth the side effects for me. I am glad I stopped taking it. I have modified my life style and try to live a bone healthy life.
Re: Marilyn (# 2306)
Yes, please ask your doctor, and in the meantime Google "Prolia rebound effect". It means that we can actually become worse off than before starting on Prolia! It's important to know this before deciding what to do next.
