Prolia Side Effects (Page 36) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
I have only recently started following this thread, having had three Prolia injections. You mentioned hair loss, has it regrown or are you still having this problem. I had not previously related my hair loss to the injection. Having read a lot of these comments am now convinced it probably was related. Also note a couple of other things, a couple of episodes of back pain, a couple of incidents of the sharp pain in the area of one ear, plus a UTI - all of which others have mentioned. Now having to rethink ongoing treatments,
Buddah, could you please tell us about your experience with PROLIA: How many shots did you get? Did you have any sideffects? What benefits did you get, if any? My experience with PROLIA is an absolute tragedy. I had a single injection of PROLIA 11 months ago and this poison still remains in my body. I am still suffering badly of side effects which I never had before the injection, i. e. pain in my bones and muscles, skin inflammation, hair loss and a floater in my eye. I hope this poison didn't permanently damaged my immune system and will wear off eventually.
Did you drink 2 to 3 glasses of water BEFORE the injection. I was told that drinking the water helps prevent side effects and my doc has had no patients with side effects if they drank the water.
Side effects? My doc has recommended I take this drug but after reading all the postings here I'm afraid to start. I took Actonel and Fosomax for years which didn't improve my osteoporosis. Of course, the doc says that none of his patients have complained of any adverse side effects. Not sure what to do. My osteoporosis keeps getting worse year by year. I exercise, am thin and eat healthy.
I am due for my third shot of Prolia and am probably not going to have it.
I have developed severe constipation, red rashes on my arms, anxiety, pain and burning while urinating, night sweats and many other unpleasant effects. I believe that this drug has a cumulative effect so that the more shots you have the more likely you are to develop side effects.
I also found out that Prolia causes the body to stop making bone, therefore causing old bone to become denser but more brittle, increasing the likelihood of a fracture!
No doubt your increase in bone mass is great, but is it as good as it seems? The bone mass increase is no doubt due to older brittle bone, which is how Prolia works - it strengthens old bone and stops the production of new bone cells.
I have had 3 injections, I never will have another one. Took me a while to realize what it was doing to me. It has been 8 months since the last one and I am finally back to almost being healthy. Sleeping better, less back pain, hair healthy, no more rashes on arms and legs. Had to constant dental work....9 crowns. That was when I finally realized it was probably the drug. I have gone to my dentist every 6 months for 40 years with no major dental work . Then after 2nd shot had to have 4 crowns. After 3rd shot 5 crowns. Since stopping. No crowns. I had just had my 6 month dental when I got first shot. Had no dental problems. I now have energy and no flu like symptoms. Never never would I recommend this treatment. My Doctor talked me into the 3rd shot thinking my symptoms were not connected to the shot from all he had read. This time he looked at it closer and is reporting my adverse reactions. Of course no 4th shot.
I am suffering great confusion after only four days. I'm now on day 7 and it has worsened substantially. I'm hoping to find some way of countering this disconcerting and quite disturbing effect as my body, so long being dysfunctional, has left me only the use of my cognitive skills that are now apparently slipping away from me in rapid order. Anyone?
Yes, yes, both the primary care physician and oncologist who administered the injection, as well as the manufacturer but I hey had me sounding as if I were not right in the head to begin with. No return calls yet from the Dr's, just awaiting those...
And Anni - Prolia seems to NOT allow for new bone to be created. Thusly, your density may improve but it's all on old bone which in many cases gets more brittle by the day. I think the density tests show a false picture of what is really happening to our bones.
Check out FDA Prolia label update: As of June 2014 Sections Modified Warnings and Precautions
Musculoskeletal pain In post-marketing, experience, severe and occasionally incapacitating bone, joint and / or muscle pain has been reported in patients taking Prolia. The time of on set of symptoms varied from one day to several months after starting Prolia. Consider discontinuing use if severe symptoms develop.

Best to all
Please tell me where you received the information of "Drug increases bone density, but with old bone cells"? Just wondering. Thank you
Guys - I do not remember where I read this. It was something about attaching to old bone cells which improves the density but the problem was that it also attaches to new bone cells, thus inhibiting their natural growth. I would double check that with my Doc and do my own research. I will try to find this info again. A lot of sights are trying to sell their products; I don't believe that was the case here. Hope this helps. I am new to this (recently diagnosed) so trying to read everything I can get my hands on and often find conflicting info which only serves to confuse the issue. If anyone has new or differing info I'm all ears.
Tina , not sure if oxygen chamber available in your area but my dentist told me this is only way to reverse effects of prolia . Its been 10 months since my second injection and I am just now starting to feel like myself again . Thank God horrible mouth pain is gone and I still have my teeth . Good Luck !
Thank you so much. I will mention this to my dentist tomorrow.
I am so sorry for you and your Dad. My mother with dementia was given an inj. 1 month ago and hasn't been well since. Pain in bones and muscles, nausea and vomiting but the worst of all is her rapid increasing confusion. All medical professionals involved deny that Prolia could have caused any of this despite the fact that these are known and listed side effects. Although my mother did have moderate dementia before the injection she has declined rapidly. She can barely walk now as well. I can only hope that she will make it until this drug is out of her system.
I agree with you. I have necrotis of the jaw and if you open my mouth you can see exposed bones. And I don' t know how this is going to end. I have been diagnosed officially diagnosed with ONJ drug induced and this drug is Fosamax and Prolia. My body aches. Continue. I have better days than others. It is very sad.
Sorry about your wife, but you are right in saying it's POISON !!! I don't know if a hyperbaric chamber will help any of her problems she's having. Did a doctor suggest this to you ? If so, it's quite interesting ! I would not take PROLIA ever again, but I have to consider taking RECLAST again, as it has been 4 years since I have used any med for osteoporosis. And I'm shrinking inheight and have broken all my ribs and bones in my toes & feet. So i hope RECLAST doesn't do any damage to me, b/c that is a cancer drug, but given in smaller doses to us.
Indeed. I'm terribly sorry to hear of your Bride's suffering. I watch as my wife tries to help me along after my issues with Prolia, I can see the frustrated pity on her face in her inability to help. I wish you and your wife all my best and may God bless you both, always...
Hi Benny: Sent one letter to FDA. Will send another letter soon. Please post and let us know if Amgen has returned your phone calls.
