Prolia Side Effects (Page 35) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
It is four months since my single PROLIA shot in May 2013. I posted several times thrugh this discussion describing the various painfull side effects that I continue experiencing throughout my body, perhaps with a slightly less intensity as time goes by. It has been 3 weeks now that I have developed another side effect, which is not really painful but very annoying and irritating - a dark spot image continually floating in my right eye. I hope it will dissapear with time as I have never had anything like that before PROLIA.
After 2 injections of Prolia I found I couldn't walk; had 3 stress fractures of right hip. Dr. didn't believe it was caused by drug & gave me a 3rd injection. Two months after that an x-ray showed I had stress fracture of right side of pelvis. That was a year ago and I finally feel "almost normal" but still find long walks impossible.
My mother who is 84 and has undiagnosed osteoporosis since she was in her late 30's has had many treatments for the condition. This summer she was given Prolia 'as a last resort' by her consultant rheumatologist at a major London hospital. Since taking the injection here legs have been swollen, red, and in the evenings she has 'biting' pains or cramps in the legs. Like many other comments the consultant has stated ' it is nothing to do with Prolia, see your GP'. She had previously had 24-months of Forsteo daily injections, very beneficial with no side effects but the promised for long term benefits of reduced bone density loss proved misplaced. As her son we cannot wait for Prolia to wear off, she is not taking it again.
It has been 1 year and 3 months since I had the prolia shot that adversely impacted my health. I have been hospitalized 3 times. My immune system is compromised. the pain, dizziness, itching and nausea made my life miserable. The side effects took a toll on me. Did it improve my bone density? I have had 4 stress fractures in my left foot and ankle...just from walking. For doctors who insist we take the Prolia shot, they should be required to take at least 3-4 shots before recommending it. All pharmaceutical salespeople should also be required to do the same. The FDA folks should also be required to do the same. Prolia would be taken off the market immediately.
I am so sorry for all of you who have to suffer because of corrupted systems.
i had the prolia injection in June. 10 days later I had terrible pain in my chest. My left arm tingled. The doctor said she thought it was rection to the prolia injection. Since then, I have a horrible time sleeping. Can't sleep more than an hour at night. Blurred vision, headahes.
i HAVE BEEN WORRIED ABOUT THIS FOR YEARS NOW. wAS ON BISPHOSPHANATES FOR 40 YRS, 3 DOSES OF reclast, 1 OF prolias. rEALLY NOT ABLE TO TAKE ANYMORE PILLS, DO NOT WANT prolia EVER AGAIN, SO i GUESS i HAVE TO HAVE reclast AGAIN IN aPRIL, NOT TOO HAPPY ABOUT THAT EITHER. mY tmj IS STARTING TO CLICK & POP EVERY DAY, NEVER DID EVEN AFTER THAT SURGERY IN 1987, NOW AM HAVING ALL KINDS OF PAINS i NEVER HAD BEFORE ANY OF THIS STUFF !
Yes Reggie I have had continuous eye pain, itching changes in vision. My proliA injection was last May and still have major side effects from it. I am not taking any more
I had my first PROLIA shot last May and since suffered greatly from many side effects, This poison definitely stays in your body for longer than 6 month. To this day I have a floater in my eye and can't sleep well at night because of aching bones and muscles throughout the body, especially bad in my legs.
I will never again take PROLIA shot!!!!
Thanks Susan this my 2nd & I'm in bed 2full days, pain all over, eyes killing me vision gone bad, jaw so sore and gums! Iv had enough of this prolia! X

My calcium defo envy is v low, hence the pain, it is v slightly eased after increase of 2000mg per day of calcium & a dairy diet for last week! I hope u will b ok too, I pray for u also, please keep in touch, I've to have scan before Nxt treatment but won't b prolia! My hair falling out too! But thankfully not bald patches! Gx
Hi lala I'm just out of bed but no energy cos not sleeping, I'm worn out, hair stop thinning now, Nxt prolia July but different one been given instead of it, I'm fed up with this feeling, 47yrs. & feel 80!!! How r u? Hope u well xxx
I've had every treatment available in the past 20 yrs., but when it came to prolia I decided not to take a chance because of all the reviews I had read. When I told my rheumatologist what I had decided, he respected my decision and suggested that I give my body a rest of all treatments for a year. I had read about the benefits of taking a break from treatments in my research so I was comfortable with that decision. I am taking calcium only and will have a bone density in a year. Good luck everyone and pray for healthy recoveries.
Have you gals tried Forteo, a two year treatment, whereby you give yourself a daily injection. Forteo was the treatment that gave me the best results. Draw back, you can only use it for two year in a lifetime.
Interesting question? Don't know answer. Please share anyone with information
Not that I am aware of , as of yet . I will de dead before it happens . Documenting everything for my family, if anything happens in next year, that i have left to rid this poison from my body . I think Vioxx was on the market at least 10 yrs before they pulled it for causing heart attacks .
Sorry for the problems you're having. After issues I have recently I was wondering if you have calcium levels in the 10's. I am a nurse and never paid attention to it as my pcp never said anything about it. Turns out I have parathyroid hyperplasia. Many of your symptoms are common with it. Adults have calcium levels in the 9's not in the 10's. good luck and hope things improve.
I've been on nearly all the osteoporosis meds: Fosamax, Actonel, Forteo, Reclast and Prolia, in that order. Most of them have improved my bone density, including Prolia. But the Prolia side effects were terrible (I reported them in an earlier comment in this forum) and I'm telling everyone I know not to take it. This drug is being prescribed because the medical profession doesn't have enough experience with it. We are the guinea pigs.
In my case, the side effects built up over the course of 4 Prolia injections. It took 6 months AFTER the final 6 months of treatment for the symptoms to recede. I'm thankful to be healthy again.
I urge all of you to call the FDA to report your side effects with this drug. Prolia was originally rejected by the FDA for osteoporosis treatment. In 2012 the FDA rejected "expanded use" of this drug for other conditions because of its risks. So the FDA is on record as being leery of this drug. We need to do our part to let the FDA know that its approval for osteoporosis should be reversed. Who knows if there will be a class action suit, and that would take years. The FDA needs to hear from us now.
I too want to know. Premerin seems to be banned since an old study indicated hormones caused increased cancer. However, the latest thinking is that this doesnt affect those who have had a early hysterectomy. I had a total hysterectomy in my early 40's. My doc advised me to stay on low-dose Premerin .025 daily for the rest of my life and not to let any physician talk me into using a combination estrogen/progesterin pill, since that is what was causing an increase in the cancer risks. My doc died,, and getting Premerin became impossible. No doc would do it. A specialist recently told me that some researchers are reconsidering the use of the hormone since the current osteo meds have fallen from grace - especially for those who had early menopause. We have been mislead. All these meds were advertised as "cures". Forteo is the newest experimental drug, the first to claim to "build" new bone, vs. "stop the shedding of old bone". Thicker bones doesn't mean "stronger" bones, and unfortunately, for Forteo, in some cases of early testing with mice(?) the bone wont stop growing when drug is stopped.....hence - bone cancer. Ugh. I am speechless to recognize how we are experimented on, how information is so hard to find. I was on Miacalcin for 10 years when suddenly studies said to "stop". Throughout those 10 years my osteoporosis kept getting worse with each scan. Then I was tested for Vitamin D. I had almost zero! Now I am on Rx for it and it is normal. Bottom line is I feel, if I had continued on the premerin,, had adequate vit D, and C, and exercised properly, I wouldnt be in this state. I am 75 years old,, have terrible IBS, had double bowel obstruction 10 yrs ago, just last month had my 3rd hospitalization for diverticulitis, and/or adhesions) my osteo is so severe they fear spinal collapse. However I do not have any pain in my back, my spine, my hips, my legs. I guess I cant see the logic of taking a drug like Prolia if there is a risk of such terrible side effects as described on this forum.
I had a single injection of PROLIA 10 months ago and this poison still remains in my body. I am still suffering badly of side effects which I never had before the injection, i. e. pain in my bones and muscles, skin inflammation, hair loss and a floater in my eye. I hope this poison didn't permanently damaged my immune system and will wear off eventually. What a disappointment!!!!
I had only 1 injection but the side effects have been great. My mouth still is seriously bothering me. I am afraid of necrosis. I had lost two teeth and my dentist is seriously concerned. Pain in my left thigh is impacting my walking. Sometimes, I can't barely eat chicken or even any kind of steak as I worry that I would loose more teeth or any dental work. Now I need an implant. My rheumatologist stopped the prolia after my last visit to my dentist. I am only on calcium, vitamjn D and exercise. I also been able to loose weight. But my thyroid has been uncontrolled and therefore has been weak. I insist on not taking Prolia. I will be calling the FDA and the pharmaceutical company to report this poison. For your information, I have Crest, Raynauds and Osteoporosis. Good luck to everyone! Remember that we are our best advocate for our health! Research every medication you are prescribed before taking anything.
