Prolia Side Effects (Page 34) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
It has been 5 months since my Prolia shot. I am now bed ridden most of the time. Seems my immune system cannot fight off Epstein Barr Virus which hit after I became ill from the Prolia shot. I have been on bed rest for almost 5 months. I have been told more bed rest, fluids and supportive care. The drug companies should be sued for this. The FDA should be more responsive. So what if some people do ok with the shot. It is NOT right for some of us to have these horrific side effects.
To Susan - Post #300 - I have seen ads for Prolia on HLN as recent as today -- so not all advertising has been pulled. It was because of reading all of the posts on this site that I decided not to take Prolia - and have told everyone I know. Wish I could do more -- my heart goes out to all who are now suffering because of this Drug
Wow, thanks for all the info. I was prescribed Boniva and BCBS wouldn't pay for the $100 pill once a month. So I was prescribed Fosomax. Hospital called to schedule me for Prolia?? I said I am supposed to do step therapy, first Fosomax, then Boniva then ..??? This does seem to be rather pushy. How much if my Insurance won't pay, I asked, "$2,500.00 for 6 months" and 10% if covered!! I don't want to take any of it. Exercise, sunshine, Vitamin D and Calcium... maybe that will work?
My doctor is recommending Prolia and is in the process of seeing if my insurance (Medicare) will pay for it. After reading these posts I am reluctant to take the shot. At least with pills you can stop the next day/week/month. But the thought of side effects for 6 months is just too much. Thanks for the posts.
Don't take it, 3 shots and 2 years later i'm still suffering.
i had my first shot of prolia on March 12, 2013. within two weeks i was having extreme pain in back and extremities. the pain comes in waves. sometimes it is extreme and other times it is less extreme. gastrointestinal issues are almost constant. developed kidney stones in left kidney, no medical professional can confirm if this is related to the prolia or not. i will not be having another shot of prolia. i am only 49 years old, and while my osteoporosis score (-3.5) puts me at the 80 year old woman range for bone loss, after the prolia shot i now feel 80. i have never had this kind of pain in my life and i miss my job.
Just spent an hour reading all the messages. I had 2 Prolia shots. After the first one, no serious side effects, just annoying little things that cleared up. After the 2nd Prolia shot in October 2012, the pain started in my upper arms, hands and knees. I can deal with the pain while active but if I sit still or worse, try to sleep, my hands swell into claws and my upper arms feel like the tendons are contracting and I have severe pain trying to move my arms. Dr took lots of blood tests, says everything is fine and MAYBE the Prolia is to blame. Because my TScore went from -3.5 to -2.8 in one year he wants me to have the shot. NO WAY! Nothing I take reduces the pain and I am lucky that I don't have all the other problems that many have reported.
Agree with your opinion & was interested in what you said about being time released so would take longer to get out of system. 15 months after first injection I am still fighting 2 of 4 side effects (cellulitis and UTI) and my cataracts have grown. And yet my internest thinks this has nothing to do with Prolia.
Am having same or had same side effects. Had my 1st injection, 05/02/2013. Trip to ER that nite, pain was so bad. They treated it as a stroke. Had no knowledge of Prolia or side effects. My Dr.'s nurse swore that it could be Prolia. Missed day's work, little better today (05/06/2013). Hope it all over, hope I will not develop all the horrible things others posting on here have had, cannot afford it. Will NOT do it again. Good Luck to you!
Need to correct my post: The Dr.'s nurse swore it was NOT the Prolia when my husband contacted her.
I have seen many post on here with good results or no side effects at least. So tell any and all Medical Professionals to read all forums. Not this many people could be making this up. I was so disappointed that I had no "support" from any of my Dr.'s staff or ER staff. As far as they know at this point I could have died! The Dr.'s office has you stay for 15 or 20 minutes post-injection. Problem was bad pain and other problems did not start until about 45 min. to 1 hour after.
I had my second infusion two days ago. I sleep for a few days--constantly--and then life resumes as if nothing has happened. No other side effects to report. But since I fell 3' last fall and broke my femur completely in half, there is not much I wouldn't tolerate to avoid that level of pain again! I have hollered, yelled, and yelped in pain many times, but never have the screams that came out of me when that femur broke--and when muscles spasmed afterward while I laid on the ground--been uttered by me in my 62 years of life. I am grateful that Prolia injections produce nothing more than mini-hibernations in me and am sorry to hear others experience so much pain and discomfort. Hopefully, they will read my comments and understand that this medication stands between them and pain they cannot begin to imagine.
People keep referring to prolia as an infusion... It is not! It is a sub cutaneous injection, infusion is a very different thing.
4 months after injection, I suddenly developed severe floaters in my right eye. I don't see this in any other responses but know it has happened with fosamax -type of drug (biophosphonates)
Has anyone recovered from the pain after getting the second injection of Prolia? My mom aches all over and it has been 3 months since she had the injection. Do you think that once the Prolia injection leaves her system, she will feel better? We hope that she won't be permanently disabled.
It has been 12 weeks now since my Ist PROLIA injection. I am still suffering from terrible pains in bones and muscles throughout my body. I can't sleep at night due to severe pain in legs, hips, rib cage, etc. For the past week I am experiensing additional side effect, i.e. my breasts tissue became very painful to touch -- it hurts so bad thatI can't wear a bra. I am so tired of coping with the terrible condition that PROLIA has caused for me and hope this will go away with time. In the mean time, the drug company shamelessly keeps advertising PROLIA on TV and I feel so sorry for all other women that would end up in great suffering from taking an injection of this poison.
It has been 3 months since my first injection of PROLIA. Unfortunately, I am still suffering with all kinds of pain in bones, muscles and internal organs throughout my body. It seems to attack different parts randomly and repeatedly with various intensity levels. During these attacks, which seem to intensify at night, I don't get any sleep, tossing and turning in bed, sweating profusely, get chills and, my husband is doing everything he can to help me by lightly massaging painful areas. I hope this poison will wear off in time so I could get my life back to normal. This PROLIA injection made my life miserable for the past 3 months and is the worst experience I've ever had in 65 years of my entire life.
Three months and one week now since my PROLIA shot. I posted several times here describing the various side effects that I am experiencing. A new sideffects developed yesterday, which is not painful but very annoying - a dark spot image is floating in my right eye. I have never had anything like that before. Did anybody else had something like that hapenning to them after PROLIA?
When people experience severe back and bone, muscle and floating pain, rashes all over the body, nausea, dizziness, and other symptoms and may become bedridden for over 4 months, they need to follow common sense. The other dark side of Prolia is the possibility of bone fracture....... Why suffer debilitating side effects to bring on fractures?
If doctors and drug salespeople had to take the injections, they would refuse. If your doctor keeps urging you to continue the injections and you are having reactions, ask yourself what damage is being done that you do not know about? What about your heart, liver, kidneys, etc.? Why would you put yourself through months of side effects when you would never consider taking a prescription that would give you a skin rash? Why would any good medical professional advise you to continue this when he/she would never prescribe a drug that you have a reaction to?
Neurontin is very good for nerve pain. I had the same kind of pain, but it was related to shingles in the roof of my mouth !! I have had 4 outbreaks of shingles, since the Prolia shot ! Any connection??? Lowering the immune system, I do not know.
I had prolia a month ago and thought I had no side effects but 2 days ago I got this floater in my left eye and went to specsavers for an eye test but they did not comment on it. but I have not been able to keep awake for the last 2 weeks and I wonder if it is down to prolia has anyone else experience this
