Prolia Side Effects (Page 21) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
The nurse from the office who gave me the prolia called again. Said she spoke to the Dr and when I come for yearly appointment I have to have bone density test. But guess what I am going to my GP , he told me he wants an unbiased facility to give Bone Density. He is the one who said he never would have given me the shot in the first place. If she gives me a hard time then I am switching doctors. She was all big on giving me all the poisons and when I asked her for help she said call your GP. So who am I going to trust. Not her ! Sheri
Hi Poodle. thank you for that blip about the Black Box. Anything I hear that might be closer to the FDA figuring out that Prolia is deadly and it's time to get it off the market makes me happy. I'm just wondering where you saw or heard this? it's still a daily battle for me to deal with all the events that led my dad's doctor to give him this drug. I will NEVER get over it but if it gets pulled off the market it will mean that possibly all of my screaming to Amgen and the FDA might have had just an inkling in helping get it removed. I sent a Medwatch report again yesterday. They ask that we only send 1 report but I don't care. I bark at them every couple of weeks. Thanks for letting us know where you saw the BlackBox info. Have a Happy Day.
Kitty! Oh yes!I started with my local representative, not their department so they referred me to the next level of govt. I called the governor's office, they said their department couldn't help either so I emailed the congress person that the governor's office told me would handle things like this. I didn't get a response, that was Debbie Stabenow's office, so I called her office. The secretary took all of my information and my concern and she said she would pass it on but she DID tell me I would not hear a response!!!!!!! Not until a bill would be passed. My concern was that it be made mandatory that all doctors and health care providers be made to check and document their findings of patients when they are prescribing harsh drugs such as Prolia. AND that it be mandatory that the doctors report any and all side effects that any drug is causing to any one of their patients. I also got the # for 2 different offices from the FDA who they told me would handle concerns like I had. I called those offices and it was like falling on deaf ears! Now all I can do is continue to tell every person I know in our small community. Luckily, I mentioned it in time to one of my neighbors who goes to the same doctor's office that my dad had gone to. (He died a year ago. Please read my previous posts). She's 54 years old and mentioned to me that her doctor wanted her to get "some" injection every 6 months "so she didn't get osteoporosis". I asked if it was Prolia. she said "yes". I told her about my dad and told her it would be good to do some research before taking it. After researching it on her own, she told me she will never take Prolia. Now she goes to a specialist 2 hours away as far as being doctored for osteoporosis and takes other treatment than Prolia. I don't know what that is but at least she is fine at this point. Don't worry, I'm spreading the word the best i can.
I think something - though my Primary is still in hot denial. I see a endocrinologis tomorrow morning. A bit worried - he has a reputation for attitude. I need to get everything read tonight - I was looking at a list of old symptoms after two weeks post shot. I still am suffering from nerves in neck, and had to pay over $1000 out of pocket for the Radiofrequency Ablation to kill the nerves in neck, will not know how long that lasts and I still am having flares of the bursitis in hip- but not as horrible as in the beginning when I couldn't walk, then couldn't walk for a long time without aid. I still used a cane occasionally. Someone has to listen who can do something!!! I know not everyone has side effects, but some of us have them so seriously our quality of life is pretty much down to bed and bathroom off and on. If the doctors won't believe us the manufacturers sure won't, even if they are on their side effects list. Maybe some class action lawsuits would be the answer. I don't know.
Yes, and that is what I am going to say if my Dr. tells me I shouldn't stopped it, I am going to say you take it and get back, but I really can't stand the sight of her so I am going to go to another Dr. in practice.
To all that are or have been taking Prolia. Prolia will make your Vit D be low and your calcium will be sky high. It has been a year since my last shot and I am still having issues with that awful medicine. Also the excema and rash on my arms and legs are beginning to get better. I purchased some Aveena Body wash with the Coillidal Oatmeal in it and this is what I take a bath with. Then I put on Eurecin lSkin Calming lotion and it is helping a lot. My doctor told me yesterday that my Calcium level is almost back to normal and my Vit D is ok. Beware of anything they tell you does not effect your body. They told me for a solid year that Prolia would not cause any of these, but when I talked to the company that makes it they said it was very possible. Bad drug and should be taken off the market.
Took my first shot one week ago. Feel like I've been poisoned. Will not take another.
I had my Prolia 3 months ago. Prior to Prolia I took 2 months of oral Biophisponate first that cause severe acid reflux and bone/muscle pain- side effects were very uncomfortable. Drs encouraged me to do Prolia. Finally insyrance covered injections. I had stopped oral biophispunates for 2 months before taking Prolia- I have GI issues continuing. I have facial itching. I itch all over my body which changes. I have severe vaginal and rectal itching. I have deep bone and muscle pain and aching which moves around. I have had an uncontrolled cough for 8 weeks and now Just had a probable DX of copd. My mouth breaks out in sores. My scalp itches. I sweat at night. I am fatigued severely. I have a weird sensation of balance loss that feels visual when I move my head. My ears ring and buzz. My legs and feet cramp. My left rib cage hurts when I lay in my side. I am retaining water. I have had sinus infection. I have more headaches. My blood pressure has risen. My teeth feel weird. I feel increasingly anxious, I had rapid weight gain, from 115/18 to 125+ and increased 2 dress sizes in my back and in my jeans. My thighs look dimply and pitted- not like usual. I have had sores on my face. My body (small scratches/cuts) heal much more slowly. I am not feeling well at all. I have worsened insomnia. When I do fall asleep, itching, cramps or pain/aches wake me up. I am exhausted. I am so frustrated with myself for going along with this Prolia protocol. These last months have been a blurt of symptoms, pain, discomfort, doctor appointments , more medications and "things" going wrong. My immune system is overloaded. I am having some kind of adverse reaction to the Prolia. My family doctor said I should not take the next dose as side effects would likely be worse. My endocrinologist makes me feel as though I am overreacting to accepting my DX of Osteoperosis which is not true. I push myself to life my life each day. I do not look like myself. I do not feel like myself.
Thank you to others for Sharing their story, it helps to know I am not the only one reacting to this Prolia injection.
Thanks - accupuncturist helped me through the worst, when I could barely walk, will investigate for the incessant ringing!! I don't know why I didn't think of him.
Carlene~so far nothing with Prolia is permanent except death and you are not going there. You can get rid of the ringing in your ears with acupuncture or hypnotherapy. They both work well for this. In the 5th month you should feel pretty normal and at the 6th month be well again. It doesn't work that way for many of our members but you, not them, so go get the ears done and you will be fine if that is your only complaint. Also be sure to report it to the FDA. Be well~Pood
Wait it out & NEVER have another shot!
do not accept a shot of Prolia you end up with a rash all over your body and your veins swell up and your back hurts its affecting your bones and all over your system.that drug should be remove off the list its a killer
After my 1st injection I realized I had sore lumps in my groin area. I was mis-diagnosed with a sports injury. After my second injection all the lymph nodes in my body became swollen. After a biopsy, I was diagnosed with stage 4 small lymphocytic lymphoma and started chemo. I strongly feel that the Prolia caused the cancer and my friend who is cancer researcher agrees!
I had no reaction to the first two Prolia injections. The third, which I received on Tuesday, resulted in terrible constipation. A laxative relieved that, but I now have dreadful diarrhea. I had to sit up in the bathroom for 5 hours, the other night. I was so tired! The diarrhea stopped, then returned in just over 24 hours. I am 81 and dread thinking the next six precious months of life are going to be ruined by diarrhea.
My caregivers had never experienced anyone who had side effects. I was told to take it after a fall broke my pelvis in two places and my spine in two places. My bones are "turning to dust." I reacted to Fosamax and Miacalcin, and 6 months of daily Forteo injections resulted in decreased bone mass. I now use a walker. I guess this is the end of livable life for me.
Don't believe that Prolia is just like any other bone medication. It is bad and
will mess your entire system. I am still having trouble from Prolia and I have been
off of it for almost 2 years. It is a nasty drug.
Your doctor and pharm are VERY stupid. If the drug effect last for 6 months and is given every six months or so there is NO way it is out of your system in 2 weeks.. you don't have to be a scientist to understand that. LOL
Pood, first of all, I have some Biotene but it only gives me some relief. I do see a oral surgeon on Thursday who specializes in dry mouth among other ailments. She 's expensive but supposed to be very good. Saw the rheumalogist today. She was very encouraging, suggested I stop the Prolia which I have. Feels, at the moment with the blood work my GP sent, and after examining me that it is not a rheumatologic condition. However she is doing more extensive testing and I go back in 2 weeks. In the meantime she has given me a cortiZone shot in both shoulders. She did say it could take up to 2 days for a full effect. I hope it works.she also said that diagnostic ultrasounds, as you get older, are not always conclusive as tendons do thin and can be prone to tears. I should continue the physio as the exercises strengthen the muscles that support the shoulder. Saw my dentist yesterday as my front tooth with the temporary crown was achy and sore. I was convinced I was going to lose the tooth and was panicky.it was the gums causing the problem as they were stressed from all the work that had been done and he gave me something to massage them and stimulate blood supply to help with the healing. He said he would never allow North Toronto ladies to walk around without a front tooth!!! Made me laugh.
Wow, I'm exhausted from all of this. Maybe I just have SAD. The weather here today is brutal....freezing rain, awful. Give me snow any day . I'm a Quebecer and I'm used to lots of it!
Thanks everyone for all the info and support. We should plan a I Hate Prolia March! But somewhere where the weather is nice. Toronto is beautiful and fun in the spring and hey, your American dollar goes a long way!!
I haven't posted for a while as I'm overwhelmed with everything that's going on in my body after the 3rd shot. Infection in front tooth( was not warned that you should take particular care of mouth besides brushing!) , bursitis, indigestion, virus in mouth( they think!) I've been on antiviral but reacted to it. Finally had a cortizone shot and even though it helped, I had a reaction, flushing and now unbelievable itching in arms and legs. Just had more blood work done and my white count is high? I'm constantly tired and now I'm worried sick hat I'll never get over all of this. On top of it all my sister has been diagnosed with a mass on her intestine and will be getting surgery this week. I'm so depressed right now and feel so hopeless that I'll never return to the active happy person that I was. My doctor is setting aside 1/2 hour tomorrow( a day she isn't usually in the office) to go over everything I'm dealing with and hopefully help me with the anxiety and panic I now have.
Those of you contemplating taking this drug .....DON'T!!!
It may work for some but don't risk the chance that it won't for you!
I have lost 7 teeth and gained 20 pounds since taking Prolia 15 months ago. No more Prolia for me.
so sorry - - I know what dentistry costs now - crowns, etc....exhorbitant, unbelievebly high priced. Not to mention the exhaustion of running back and forth - - and just having work done, takes so much out of an already depleted system.
