Prolia Side Effects (Page 20) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
The effects of Prolia, fat around waist and constipation, linger long after 6 months of no drug.
Rrdulworth! My dad went through these exact things that you're going through but after just one infusion of Prolia. You can read my previous posts. I was so against him getting even one unfusion because my dad had had surgery on his small intestine, he had a latex allergy (ended up with severe cellulitis in the arm where he got the infusion within one day of getting the infusion) and he had severe kidney failure. All things that are cautioned about getting Prolia. His family doctor told my mom and dad there were rarely any side effects! It's a really long story. Anyway, it's very important to have your "blood calcium level" monitored. My dad's was only checked once when he was hospitalized and because I demanded it be checked. He almost died.My mom had just agreed to put him on life support. I pulled the doctor aside and demanded his "blood calcium levels" be checked. Blood work was done. His levels were very low. They started him on IVs to correct the blood calcium and within 2 hours he started to be able to breath and his heart enzymes started to correct. The doctors thought he was having a heart attack but he was only having "symptoms of a heart attack" due to the low blood calcium. I feel very strongly about having the levels checked and I will be concerned about you. Please report back on here if you have had this checked as I will be wondering. Are you taking any calcium? This is important also. I hope you'll read my previous posts starting in October 2014. As you can see from all the other wonderful posts on here you are not alone. I post my dad's experience on here to try to spread the word about this horrible drug and to try to help other people. I know many others post on here for the same reason. You can call and talk to a pharmacist at the FDA if you have questions. They seem very knowledgeable and willing to answer. I will pray for you to feel better soon. A pharmacist at FDA told me the Prolia will be be gone (at that magical date of 6 months as the doctors make their patients believe), however, patients MIGHT suffer from side effects of the drug for an undetermined amount of time longer than the 6 months. I hope you will keep letting all of us on here know how you're doing.
Hello Friends,
My doctors are recommending I take the Prolia.
I have read all of the information about it as well as its side effects.
I have been reluctant to take the shot and have held off.
I just agreed to go ahead with this process.
With all of your posts, thoughts on whether I should take this injection?
Any and all posts/replies are welcomed.
My advise to you is DO NOT TAKE THE PROLIA! One in a thousand have no side effects & the rest of us suffer horribly. I am now 5 months & 5 days into the injection & am in horrible pain still. Pain in thighs, hips, legs, muscle weakness & spasms, pain down both legs & can barely put one step ahead of the other. Before prolia, I was a happy heathy active person. Prolia is Poision to most of us. I have reported the side effects to the FDA & Amgen (Maker of prolia) for what good it did. I am now searching to find a class action lawsuit to make them pay for the quality of life that I have lost so far. As strong as the effects are 5 months in, I think they will linger many months after the 6 months are up. Or maybe a miracle will happen -
Moms,
Don't be confused. Be very certain before you allow ANY biologic medication, especially Prolia to be injected into your body. There are other options. There are several oral meds and a inhaled spray that may work for you. Increasing your calcium intake and weight bearing exercise will definitely help.
Make an informed decision and do not be pressured into anything that you are not completely comfortable with. Not by the Doctors (Prolia injections cost between $1100.00 and up, big profits) and certainly not by friends (they are not subject to the consequences).
Good luck Moms
Moms! Are they recommending Prolia for osteoporosis or as a cancer drug for you? If it's for osteoporosis I sure hope you know you truly have osteoporosis or are at risk for it. I've heard that some of the bone scan machines are not so efficient anymore. I'm quite sure my dad was diagnosed improperly for osteoporosis and was given the drug "just because". I hope you'll just be very sure in your own mind that you feel you are in need of Prolia. I'm glad you found this sight and there is so much info on the internet about Prolia. So far I have not heard of one person who has had improvement in their bones due to taking Prolia. I can only see that it's done more harm to people. It has to be your own call after doing much research. You can also research Dollars for Docs and just by chance see if your doctor gets paid from Amgen. Some people say this might be a clue as to why doctors prescribe certain meds, because they get extra kickback from a specific drug company. Just one more thing to check into.
Rrd~ as to calcium in a 'normal' body we need a minimum of 600mg two times per day with 1000IU's of Vitamin D. With Prolia which needs calcium or it will rob it from your muscles and put you in the hospital, you need 1200mg twice per day with the same 1000IU's twice/day of Vitamin D. Perhaps if you take your supplements correctly, you may get a little better here. I cannot quite believe your Doc is so naive. You also need to put some magnesium in there during the week too. It helps keep the nasty muscle cramps down and helps build good bone. Any MD worth their salt will tell you we are deficient in these areas. Hope you up your dose here and get better. When you have your calcium tested, it will be just a tad high but not dangerously high at all and you will be commended for having the Magnesium…just maybe 1500mg/week if you are not getting bad cramps. Be well~Pood
If you are thinking about taking Prolia, please reconsider. The awful things that happen to your body does not happen all at once. It happens after a while.
I have been off Prolia for one year and I am still having a milder rash than
I had at first and still have excema on my legs which I treat daily. I just hope the company takes this product off the market. It does not help anyone.
Victoria~being new to Medicare is a blessing. You are supposed to receive a complete physical exam. In that exam you can ask for a bone scan too since it is an indication of your health, just are the blood tests, etc. Go for it lady~Pood
Anne~I didn't like Trazadone either. That's why I opted for Mirtazapine. It seems to 'agree' with me much better with no hang over effects in the morning. Also, my brain must be a little strange in that I cannot have any Melatonin. It makes me wide awake and very 'nervous'. I just hope and pray that a miracle will happen and you will be 99% well on the 6th month mark. That's all we have with Prolia is Hope and Prayers. You are definitely in mine. Be well~Pood
Thanks Poodle,
I won't take any of those drugs- i'm sure if you have read about them you know they build up the phone density by building up bone on the old phone which causes your bones to be more likely to break! Not less likely… I have never had a fracture in my life in spite of being very active- falling off of horses etc. I have type one diabetes and Hashimoto's – it cost me to go to early menopause I'm sure. I did have a blood clot in DKA so I don't know if I'm going to be allowed to go back on low-dose HRT but that would be my choice if so. No problem saying no it's all of these drugs and I think you ladies should do that too if you value your house those drives a lot of them are made up of the same ingredient as laundry detergent! If you take calcium supplements and vitamins E make sure you were taking vitamin K2 as well because otherwise the calcium is going to go into your arteries instead of your bonus. Also it is better to get your calcium from FOOD not from supplements. If you were not on the poison pro Leah ready of course. My next-door neighbors friend separately I know she has horrible rash is all over her body since the drugs in your system for six months there's nothing they can do about it and of course The doctors deny any of the symptoms are caused by rolling out or the other drugs. Onj can be caused by the other drugs to not just by prolia- well this is Suffolk OK answer another horrible immune depression affects. There is no way I will ever take those drugs! I would rather die from osteoporosis. Mine is more advanced now they said however they are going to have to figure out what is causing it it is not just menopause. And I will do my best with exercise and the supplements I'm taking and possibly more hormone treatment to build it back up. have chronic pain and guards and a lot of other things going on and there's no way I'm taking any of those drugs because I know they will kill me! Please think long and hard before you take any of these drugs or any other drug that your doctor is recommending because I know they are getting kickbacks with these drugs my endocrinologist took over $100,000 a year for fake speeches so ladies this stuff is happening. Many of these people do not have your health status as their best interest- have to be your own doctor trust me.
I know this was going on in the 90's. Not cash money. Just lovely family vacations to Disney World in the winter all expenses paid, etc. Now, it seems to be just MONEY. Spend an hour inside with big pharma and the rest of the time is yours.
Hi Canadian~one good thing. There are class action suits in Canada. I asked a friend of mine that has lived there for 80 years. Also, you can sue Amgen yourself as this is not supposed to happen with one injection and I don't believe it was listed as a side effect until some time this summer. You have to keep your Calcium with Vitamin D constant. Have the Dr. check your level. I don't know about your mouth. I thought I was getting ONJ and my dentist checked me well and it's just a muscle - same muscle that got the Prolia injected into it. You probably should go to your dentist and ask him/her to look around in there and find out what is hurting. It could be like mine or it could be a fungus or it could be many things. You need your dentist to look at it and s/he will take you immediately if you say "I think I am getting ONJ." I took 1200 mg calcium with 1,000IU Vitamin D, two each in the morning with breakfast and 2 again in the evening with supper. My Magnesium was magnesium oxide 500 mg and I took it as often as I needed it to keep my muscles from cramping which was close to every night. The fracture is totally the fault of Amgen's Prolia. It has zero to do with your supplements. It is not supposed to happen on 1 injection. Call around to find a good lawyer that will represent you because Amgen's Prolia severely damaged you with your fracture. In the US it's usually on contingency and you get 60% and they get 40% plus expenses. Call your dentist Monday!! Love to you~Pood
Canadian~yes, the fracture is from Prolia. You did not fall or do anything in any way to break that leg. It takes a lot of force to break a leg as they are strong bones. Even your Dr. said from Prolia. If you were in a car accident, you could get a broken leg or skiing in the mountains but NOT just around home and in town. Isn't this quite interesting? You took a medication to make your bones strong and it broke your thigh bone. In how many ways can Prolia go wrong. Hugs~Pood
Canadian~I just checked the FDA in the USA. Amgen, maker of Prolia, admitted to causing your fracture on 6/15/15. In that document, many more bad side effects were admitted by Amgen. I think Canada is a little more ahead in allowing new drugs than the USA but I don't know where to look. Pood
Poodle, the Dentist did check the muscle and the teech, they are ok and not looseing . No need to do a special x-Ray ONJ now. The sore feeling of my jaw disappeared when I came to see him. Look like the sore jaw has been released a bit if I filled up with calcium and vitamin d. You really don't know what damage will be coming due to this nasty.
As for my fracture, the CT scan showed (less than 1/2 round) crash that doesn't need to do surgery. I made the choice of let it heal without taking any medication. He said, After 6 months, if it is not heal, then I can try the Forteo. My goodness, I would not trust any of the osteo. drugs anymore. The doctor admitted this fracture may be caused by Proia but did not believe Prolia give us such side effects. Any of the side effects should be dealt with ourself. All of the doctors said we are the very small amount of having the side effects, some of the discomfort feelings it may not be caused by Prolia. I told them I didn't have all these side effects before Prolia. This was very fracturating when you wanted to seek help from them. Sorry, my English is not good and hope you understand what I wanted to write. I may
To my understanding from all the doctors, they just neglected all the side effects caused by the Prolia even though they know the possibility of these serious side effects. They even think our side effects are minor and can be dealt with easily. I got quite angry now and would look for reporting to FDA. The Prolia is uncontrollable when it went into your body. I have been suffering for more than 5 months and definately will be getting longer - Plus the fracture of my thigh leg that make me suffered so very much.
Poodle, haven't you seen a posting by Judith that her mom killed by Prolia after received 6 injections. Under the heading "Side effects following Prolia" 17 postings. Another innocent and helpless victims. My best prayer for Judith's family (Costa Rica).
Dear healing tree: You cannot get a single doctor that prescribes Prolia to admit that what you are experiencing is not due to Prolia. It is due to Prolia and you should never take another shot. I quit taking the shots and my doctor has never called to find out what happened to me. I think he already knows because I had complained to him and he said that Prolia would not cause rash and all the side effects that I had. It is strange because I am treating the rash and it does seem to be a little better. The people that make the Prolia even told me that they were getting a lot of complaints and so you see it is not a good medicine to take.
Hi Poodle,
I tried to find the class action suit against Prolia for cancer the only one going is for talcum power. So if you see anything else please let me know. I hope your doing better, this drug is a drug from hell. I have been in remission for 6 months, but with ovarian cancer chances are not good. I am having faith that I can beat this. I have been on a clinical diet study for the last three months, it last 2 years. Hopefully it will help. Thank you for your concern. God bless you.
