Updated

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

Sal~You can have fillings. No problem there. Crowns are a different story as are implants. I was told by my dentist to not come back until the side effects of Prolia were gone. They are 99% gone and I had the fillings done I needed and just a month ago I had two implants put on. I wish I would have researched it well on the net because I could have had only one more implant and the bridge that fits like a natural tooth and does not have wires and junk on it like regular dentists make. Today I went up for an X-ray and visual checkup and everything is perfect and I get my crowns on Sept. 18. He said I should have my dentist cast them now so they will be ready to put on me on 9/18. Check the net well to see what is the best option for you. Be well~Pood

Thank you, Poodle.

Right now, my jaw is so tight the fillings are out if the question; but my mind is at ease for future reference.

On Friday, I will start P.T. for that.

Since my second jab of Denosumab I have been having headaches and difficulty sleeping at night which is very unpleasant also depressing thoughts crowd in while I am trying to sleep.
I'm wondering whether to stop this drug and not have it next time. But how can I stop the osteoporosis without it? My vit D3 and calcium levels are very good and I walk every day and exercise.

Jennifer,

This is a toxic drug. 5.5 months after my last shot I am still experiencing side effects. On fact, I was crying from pain last night. My head hurts so much the pillow caused pain.

Anyway, rather than take anymore of this, I am following an anti inflammatory diet, performing Yoga ( there are specific poses for Osteo.) doing resistance exercises and any type of exercise to stimulate bone growth. Also take supplements for bone support. At least I will resume my program when this period of spasticity passes. Right now I need to stop because of spasms in my hand.

Sal~is there an indoor swimming pool you can use? Swimming is the best way to build up muscles/bone with the least amount of effort extended. Often our Docs will refer us to Physical Therapists and we get the use of the pool free because insurance pays for it. Something to think about. Also, have you tried a down pillow without a lot of down in it. There is one store in the US that makes the best down and there is no smell to it at all. Things to think about~Hugs~Pood

Thanks Poodle,
Water therapy will be next. This is a shoulder/ TMJ issue and I want to follow this Doc advice for now.

I am open to the pool, but a therapeutic program. Medicare will only cover one modality at a time.

My pillow and mattress topper is a Cuddle Ewe. Pricey but worth it. It is wool batting.

Hugs to you,
Nancy

Linda~this is a study I found on a well known site about Prolia and loose teeth.
" Loose tooth with Prolia. Based on reports of 47,512 people who have side effects when taking Prolia from FDA, and is updated regularly." I have not reported it, have you? The other drugs were very small numbers but look at Prolia!! That means there are more than the 47,512 they know about. Way more than I ever dreamed. The reason it is killing the roots to our teeth is due to the fact that our immune system is highly damaged while on Prolia so our body cannot fight this as it normally would have done without Prolia. In how many ways can Amgen's Prolia go totally BAD. Hugs~Pood

I have not reported to the FDA but will tomorrow and think I will call the drug company too. I am sure to no avail, but it will make me feel better.

Poodle, would you please tell me the website address where you found that you mentioned today about Prolia and loose teeth?

My 2 sisters have been diagnosed with osteoporosis and have been meeting with endocrinologists. One has very nearly decided to go on Prolia. It scares me to think about it. They've nearly decided to go with the science--the studies, etc.-- that says that the benefits outweigh the risks, and that the risks of the worst side effects are very rare.
Thanks!

Poodle, I saw the same report! I now have to have my front tooth pulled as it is loose and eating is most difficult, this is the same tooth that had an infection back is January. I was on antibiotics and my dentist recrowned it. He is considerered one of the top in Toronto and said he'd never seen such a bad infection and warned me that the tooth was very precarious. I am devastated. I feel like the wicked witch from the west( or north, as I'm in Canada!) I have opted for a partial permanent bridge as I can't wait for 6 months for an implant and live using a "flapper" as he calls the fake tooth. I'm not seeing the doctor that put me on Prolia. I also read somewhere, maybe in the same report you mentioned that osteoporosis is not a disease but a condition which should not be prescribed with drugs! Finally, in Canada, the press is openly writing about Pharma companies paying big bucks to Drs . So far no Drs or companies have been named. I'm sure those Drs are dealing with major anxiety!
Sal as to shoulder pain, I can relate. I have an extremely painful rotator cuff tear which can not be surgically fixed. This all came on after terrible joint and muscle pain after taking Prolia. The only thing I was told to do was Physiotherapy. I've now spent close to 1000$ for this as my benefits have run out.
When is Amgen going to either take Prolia off the market or own up to the fact that their trials were inconclusive due to time constraints the brass had put on them. Leaves a very bad smell in my nose!!!

The sites where loose teeth from Prolia are mentioned:

If you do like I did on Google - 'what is the effect on teeth from Prolia' or 'What effect does Prolia have on our teeth'. They did not mention that our immune system is compromised and thus unable to fight off what is being done near our gum lines. That we all know is a true and verified fact from Amgen. Hope this goes through~

Judy, I am so very sorry that this is happening to you.

Be well.

I am happy to hear that there is integrity in Canada. In my experience, it isn't until people die that action is taken; as in the case of NSAID's. Such is the power of Big Pharma .

It is my mission to spread the word about Prolia and urge people to utilize other modalities. In fact, utilize diet, exercise BEFORE developing Osteo. Sadly for me, my strong ( enough) bones took a dramatic downturn following a prolonged period of activity due to surgery.

Thanks Sal. My tooth is so loose right now that I can barely eat. I don't actually get it pulled for 2 weeks. Then I have to wait a period of time before I get the implant. Apparently I will be getting a "flipper" until then. Just wondering what others have done while waiting for their implant? At the moment I'm so worried it'll fall out before I even get the root pulled. We have all these Canada Day celebrations coming up and I sure don't want to present myself looking like the wicked witch from the west!
I suppose there's no way Amgen would even consider paying for the whole procedure. Would love to hear how others have dealt with the loss of teeth due to Prolia.

I also have had shots every 6 months times two. I will NEVER take another.

I am again suffering side effects. The muscle and joint pain is beyond belief.
Even my toes are painful.

My plan is an anti inflammatory diet and supplements; also various types of resistance exercises. Problem is for the last 6 weeks my pain and weakness has been so great, I cannot exercise.

Judy~ May I ask how long you have been off of Prolia? I got 2 pulled and implants put in. The crowns will be ready the middle of Sept. I have been off of it for a couple of years now so there are no worries about my immune system, etc. After my 6 months of Prolia were up, I had a cataract removed and also a new hip put in. Why are they making you wait so long?

I just started taking Prolia injections this month. I am experiencing tiredness and muscle weekness. I have fallen twice which is something I never do. I am 56 years old, 5'6" tall and weigh 145 lbs., and healthy other than osteoporosis. Has anyone else had this side effect?

Yes, fatigue and muscle weakness and heaviness. Like my limbs are encased in cement.

This drug has had very negative effects on my muscles and joint; in addition to many other negative side effects.
