Prolia Side Effects (Page 108) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
I'm still looking have found no lawyers that will take a class action suit against Prolia but have ONE That might do individual. Also found one set of statistics that had 121 deaths in a trial study of per approx 5000. Reclast had 500 deaths in close to 5000. These drugs are awful and we know it. I am up for continuing to research as well. From going through lists both in class action and privste companies of suits that have been successful, Prolia is only mentioned once so far and I notice suits that seem to be successful are on drugs that have been hurting people for a very long time. So I'm wondering why. Wish I had a friend that is an attorney. My last side effect is hyperglycemia which probaby indicates a tumor or tumors on parathyroid. When I confronted doctor with info he said my calcium levels did not indicate a need for surgery yet, though high enough for concern. So I mentioned a clinic in Tampa that does minimally invasive surgery to remove tumors. He had two patients that went and they are now fine. Why was he keeping that a secret. So next will be a scan of some type on parathyroid here. If there is nothing and calcium is still pouring out of body through kidneys snd circulating as overloads in blood i eill go to the clinic. Anyway this condition seems to be a blow back effect of Prolia which as Denusumab is used for cancer treatment under that name. So this could be much longer but I'm stopping here with the attorney search results so far. Wish I had better news. I don't know how many more will have to be killed or maimed before they take a serious look at the effects of these drugs. Since they are used in the big business of cancer I have a feeling AmGen may be well protected. Sorry I don't have better news. But will keep researching - may be some good news tucked in there somewhere. Sidenote: I am just amazed endocrinologist wanted to treat the parathyroid issue with Reclast. This NEVER showed up in every three months blood tests until 15 months after Prolia. So be alert in regard to your blood tests.
Sounds so familiar to what ice been through. In one injecton of Feb 2915. I now have hypercalcemia caused by more than likely tumors on parathyroid. 20% possibility of cancer. Never had these result's from blood test pre-Prolia. And for some of us it comes with emotional abuse by doctors who deny Prolia or Reclast haVing any side effects. Statistics are close to 1.5% Prolia patients in trial studies die, and for Reclast about 5%. Near as I can tell. Just my experience and research trying to recover from the side effects, after receiving the rejection.
Hi Diana,
Four months after I had a Prolia shot I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I wrote the FDA and Amgen but no respond from either. I searched the internet to see if there were any class action suites but found none. If you hear of any please let me know. Good luck to you.
I'm in if you start a class action.
After 10 months I'm still having very bad aches & pains in my joints & thighs. The hair loss has stopped, I think, but it's not growing back very fast.
Anne, for your muscle spasms, please take 500 mg of Magnesium every night when you go to bed. That should keep that part okay for you. As for the skin condition, many have used Pred short term to get rid of it. I know it is an evil drug too and destroys our bones but that has to be weighed over some comfort. The FDA's phone number is listed on the net and that is the number I used to call them with each and every new side effect I had. I think you may have mentioned that you don't want to take pain medications?? That is the only thing that got me through Prolia plus all of the drugs for acute insomnia. A year and 3-4 months later, my hair still is not right. I've reached a point where I just really hate to wash it because I don't like seeing the results clogging up the drain in the shower. Diana is trying to find a big name firm that is willing to go against Amgen. The smaller ones just won't work. Why this is not on their radar, I cannot tell you. It may be that Prolia is soon new that it just has not hurt that many people yet. I think it came out in 2010 so that is a brand new drug as far as MDs and lawyers are concerned. Hold the faith. We will get there!! Be well~Pood
I was put on hydroclothizide to halo calcium loss from kidney.
I stopped Prolia in March , I took 2 shots, I still am suffering from indigestion , insominia, aches and pain, stomach bloating, etc. When I went for my yearly check up , the Dr it is time for my bone density and I refused it because I am not taking any of these meds ever again, I rather take my chances. I am so sorry that I ever thought any of the pills, and this shot would be worth it. Thanks to Pood , I do take my magnesium every night and upped my calcium. My blood levels for my sodium were low and liver enzymes were a little high, so now under care of Kidney Dr and Gastro ( which I was before) but the whole thing is very scary, hearing about woman getting cancers. I already had Breast Cancer and now waiting for the next shoe to drop. Everyone take care of yourselves. Sheri
One month after my second Prolia shot, I started to have a slight pain in my right groin area. It moved from there to my upper thigh and around my buttocks. The pain in my thigh got so bad I could not walk. I went to several orthopedic doctors and surgeons. The last Doctor saw did a CAT scan and an MRI both with contrast and without. I had fractured bones on my right Femur bone. I have not been able to walk without a walker and cannot go up and down steps. It has now been 7 months and I'm just beginning to feel a little bit better.
I've been doing research and found out that this is possible side effect.
From when I first told my surgeon about the Prolia,he questioned me about it and thought that may be the problem. I never even told him about the bone fractures.
If the fractures do not heal in the next few weeks there is a possibility I might need surgery to insert a rod into the bone.
Has anyone else experienced this? I have also gained weight.
Thank you for sharing your story. I Am so Sorry about what you have been through... The road to recovery from the side effects of Prolia is a long one. Recovery is also so very different yet similar to each of us. It is so important for all of us to support and share with each other...
Hi Trish~and welcome. You are not the first here to have a broken femur from Prolia. Look in the back pages at messages from Canadian. She had one injection of Prolia and hers broke for absolutely no reason at all other than Prolia. The Docs tried to give her a hard time but finally admitted it was the Prolia that caused her break. It did heal well so I expect yours will too. I'm just so sorry you had to be another of us, the Prolia guinea pigs. I sincerely hope that you will stop all Prolia as of now. Be well~Pood
Thanks Pood, I will let you know if I go with a dog. I have been ill I was in the hospital with a diabetic emergency and I'm still not well. I'm having a hard time eating and managing my blood sugar etc. I'm eating soft and liquid foods only for now. I don't think I'll be able to travel now for a while and their have been a few other disasters. I know missing my baby both isn't helping. But I still don't feel ready yet to take on another while in sick. I hope you and everyone are ok or doing better at least or at least not worse. I'll post more later.((((Hugs))))
Thanks Jan, this is pretty rough... I just hope I normalize a bit soon and I can go back to regular foods and eat more. So far as of today I'm on yogurt/jello/hardboiled eggs/bone broth/bananas until further notice ;-) ((((hugs)))))
I am so sorry to hear of your awful side effect from this dangerous drug. I'm 77 & know it's sad to think of loosing precious time to being ill. I had a bad reaction to Fosamex, too & have decided I will no longer take drugs for my bones. Hang in there??
Skittle~Please take good care of yourself and GET WELL NOW!! It's none of my business but is the restricted diet due to any problems you had with Prolia or are they a separate issue. God Bless You and will keep you in my prayers~Pood
Yutigirl~have your Doctors done blood tests on you to check your immunoglobulins? It reads to me that your A is very low and a change in your diet would fix it. It's an autoimmune disease caused by Prolia. I had it and you are writing a lot of what I went through. You could check it out for yourself by not even going to a Dr. Pig out on gluten (foods that contain a lot of wheat) like maybe Macaroni and cheese and some cookies. If it makes you worse you will know. Then back off and eat no gluten -- none at all. You can have oatmeal if you are not terribly sensitive to it but stay away from anything that has wheat, rye, barley in it and see if your diarrhea stops. Eat fresh meats, veggies and fruits as long as the kitchen puts in no wheat. You can have corn and rice. They do not affect it at all. Let's see if that doesn't fix your diarrhea problem. I really believe it will. You also have to be very careful about canned soups too as they often sneak wheat into them. How about a nice piece of meat, baked potato, salad and fruit for dessert. For breakfast it's bacon or sausage and eggs. No toast and a nice glass of OJ. Lunch could be a large salad with chicken in it, 1/2 of a hard boiled egg, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and other fresh veggies. For dessert would be fresh fruit as in watermelon, grapes, cantaloupe, banana or whatever you like. This should straighten our your gut in one day just by deleting gluten. You can also have milk, yogurt, jello, ice cream (depending on kind as Cookie Dough as gluten in it) so stay with the normal vanilla, chocolate, sherbets, strawberry, cherry, etc. Hidden Valley Ranch dressing has no gluten in it so you are safe there. Do this and get back with me please. Be well~Pood
Pops, I think you forgot that I never took prolia thank god. Someone at my doctors office tried to get me to take it but once I researched chef it and found this site I had decided not to. I'm not taking anything for the osteoporosis now. I haven't taken anything yet.
What's going on now is my type-1 diabetes, Hashimotos, IBS, hyperparathyroidism and who knows what else. Supposedly a virus & dehydration put me in the hospital with high Bg and high ketones. I'm still sick and I came back worse this weekend. My Bg is crashing nearly any time I eat so I can only eat small meals with no more than 10-20g carbs, that was happening before the stomach virus. My eosinophil count is very high so it could've an infection or a parasite maybe. I do wonder if something is going on with my adrenal glands too.
I have thought for a while I have celiac or wheat sensitivity and after the type-1 diagnosis I went gluten free. My Kat test was negative but I wasn't eating gluten for 4 months then so it could be wrong. There's a new test in Australia for which you don't have to eat gluten- I hope it comes to the U.S. Soon.
I was exposed to gluten when I was in the hospital by accident with some bread crumbs on flounder. My stomach/bowels got worse again after.
I'm having some scary dizzy spells too. I hope I feel better soon too. Unfortunately these diseases aren't going anywhere. I ruin if I'd have taken prolia it would've killed me for sure. My osteoporosis developed between 2009-12 prolly. When I went into early meno. Way too fast. And I was on hrt for 1.5 years of that time. It may be from primary hyperparathyroidism because in excreting high levels calcium in urine.
Thanks Pood, I posted a long reply but it's not showing up yet, it had to be reviewed.. I think you forgot that I didn't take prolia fortunately. This is all from my other health issues which aren't going anywhere unfortunately. I'll post more later if the other reply doesn't show up. The recent diet is due to a stomach bug or something that probably caused high blood sugar and ketones and landed me in the hospital. I'm not sure what is going on really, I seemed to be getting better and then the night before last I got worse again, hence the diet. I eat gluten free now since type 1 diagnosis, but I accidentally ate a tiny bit when I was in the hospital.
So true, you can't believe what they sneak wheat into, soups, sauces, even ice cream! ben and jerry's regular and new vegan almond milk ice cream has wheat flour in it! It's nutso. A lot of people who do better with gluten free also don't do well with dairy though. I sometimes have trouble with it but I can usually eat cheese and yogurt. Although I had cut yogurt out for a long time too, but added it back in because there is nothing else soft to eat that has some carbs and protein that I can eat right now. I had some in the hospital too and it didn't seem to spike me there, before it was spiking blood sugar too much.
Thanks Jan, My neighbor bought me some of the chicken broth at wholefoods, the pacific brand I think when I had a bad cold 3-4 months ago and I also practically gagged on it, lol. But now I bought some after getting out of the hospital thinking it would give me protein with almost no carbs and stop my blood sugar going up, I need to eat protein every 4-5 hours. But the plain chicken broth has only 1g protein. So then I saw the bone broth has 9g protein which is great. I thought that tasted better than the chicken broth.
I don't know if it is because eating solid food makes me feel sick now and this is very mild and easy to digest. The dietician at the hospital said to try and make my own because it can be very healing. You just take the chicken bones and I guess the left over skin and meat and put it in a crock pot. I don't feel well enough to do it right now and it's just easier to have it ready made.
But I will try it eventually. I put lots of sea salt in mine too which makes it taste better. My kittycat loves it too :-) She came to eat the last drop out of my bowl.
The brands I bought are: pacific organic chicken and organic bone broth and imagine organic chicken broth. The Imagine brand chicken broth tastes better because it has carrots in it with two carbs. I also got the pacific vegetable broth but I haven't tried that one yet, it has 2g carbs. I guess the bone broth has more protein because it has bones in it? I had some earlier when my blood sugar spiked and I had to do a big correction but couldn't eat also but had to eat something. This time I added the imagine chicken broth to the bone broth and Real Salt brand sea salt and it was delicious. I'm going to try adding some vegetable broth to the bone broth next time.
Be aware ladies that most salts have sugar/dextrose added into them as well as another additive calcium silicate that stops caking. I bought what I thought was a good sea salt at WF made by Heins I think and it has these added in, for some reason I didn't read the ingredients which I nearly always do. So I've switched to the Real Salt brand sea salt which comes in a shaker. I don't want sugar and that additive in my salt. I usually get the iodized salt but this one doesn't have it I think. Some of the other sea salts have the natural minerals but I'm not sure if they have iodine.

Antoinette and also Trish and everyone else with eye problems due to prolia,
I agree with Pood, go to a retinologist ASAP, as an emergency if you have a tear. Do not take a chance with your vision. I go to one once per year due to diabetes as well as to my regular eye doc for rx for glasses. He also does a thorough exam and even tested me for closed angle glaucoma for free. The insurance wouldn't pay for it and they told me the know that and they just do it for free. That is a great doctor imo.
