Prolia Side Effects (Page 101)
UpdatedI would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.
Afraid I am no where close to Arizona so that isn't an option for me, I live in Arkansas. Meeting with my dentist soon to get the cost estimates on the implants and the teeth.
Regarding dental care, as Poodle suggested, dental schools are an affordable option. They are safe as they are highly supervised. A number of years ago I had six veneers for the price of one privately done.
This was a very well said post. You put eloquent wording yo my own prolia journey,.. January 3, 2015 was the day I had my first prolia injection and the last day that I have e felt like my normal active self. Now it's a daily battle with my

I want my life back from prolia!
Everyday is a bit better-
Thank you for telling my story!
Jan
Thank you, Jan for sharing your story, with a couple of exceptions, it is my story.
2 years ago I had a surgery to correct a lifelong problem. It was a difficult recuperation. Just when I was getting a life, I took Prolia. I too want a life .
So sad.and so many of the issues are others too. The makers of this drug should be in prison. They've come out with another version for cancer patients. Frightening.
Memory difficulty is the first problem I noticed after my second Prolia shot. I would be typing and suddenly forget what word I wanted to use. I'm only 56 but was afraid I was having the start of dementia. That only lasted about two days but the physical symptoms have gradually gotten worse every day. I have popping and grinding noises in my jaw, and my teeth seem to be spreading out. My hip bones ache all the time while the rest of my back goes through waves of strong pain, the worse being my low back, where I had surgery. It really burns all across my upper back, neck, and shoulders. I have to take muscle relaxers and ibuprophen every 3-4 hours just to allow me to lay down and not hurt. If I wait, it takes an hour for the pain to ease and that is laying curled up and very still. It has given me nausea, acid reflux, indigestion, and anxiety to the point of trembling. I am also having to take more anxiety meds more often. When I stand my blood pressure drops and I feel faint. I can't walk very far without feeling weak, and am achy all the time. My vertigo is also worse. I had just started a low carb diet around the time I started having problems and thought it was just the Atkins flu. I tried it for a month but stayed bloated and feeling flu-like symptoms. Even now that I am eating more carbs, I am still sickly. My second shot was in March so I hope that it gets out of my system soon. (The first shot and following six months were fine).
Trojan Unicorn, so sorry to hear about all those symptoms. I tune in here to see if some of the stuff I am still suffering two years later are on line with others - and yep. I'm so sorry you are so torn up. This stuff is terrible. Please call AMGEN and report. They are coming out with something else .....sumab for cancer patients, as if they aren't sick enough I had a radiofrequency ablation on the neck nerves, it helped immensely. They kill the nerve - that's about all they could do. Wasn't a bad procedure. The hip has improved, I could not walk for a while after my first injection without a walker. Had dental work done, but one side of my jaw is still sore off and on. I wonder if this stuff ever goes away. And to make matters worse, when we stop the Prolia are bones go back to the same or worse, I'm hearing from people. In my case, I had a tumor on my parathyroid and thyroid. Once those were removed I felt so much better, and my bones should be up to normal in about 5 more months or so. That is not always the case, but sometimes, its worth having thyroid scanned, PTH levels tested. Especially since Prolia seems to mess with our PTH. I had to go to an Accupuncturist to be able to walk again. Yes, and 9,000 worth of dental work. Good luck on your journey. Just know that you can get better, its a maze, takes a lot of research on one's own, unless you get lucky with a doctor who knows about the side effects and how to work with you.
I would like to share with the group an experience I had yesterday. Perhaps it will be helpful. I had a Lymphatic Drainage massage. This was total body, not just an affected limb. Today, my joints are less swollen. I can wear my rings, and my feet aren't painful and tender. I don't feel like a balloon. For the first time in weeks, I was able to do at least, a gentle exercise.
Well, the only consolation I get is knowing that others are also experiencing a lot of the same side effects as I am. At least I know it's not all fabricated in my mind. As I mentioned, I have a rotator cuff tear in my right shoulder. I had the MRI and just saw the surgeon on Friday. The tear is in an area that can't be sewn as it too large and not where the shoulder joint is. He said the stitches wouldn't hold. I'm devastated as I now will have this the rest of my life. I sometimes feel that when you hit your 70 s the doctors just figure your life is almost over and we're like old horses put out to pasture to spend the rest of our days. Physio is the only thing he said would help. I'm seriously thinking of medical marijuana . It is legal in Canada and I just have to be approved by a doctor if I can find one who deals in this. On top of all of this , my husband who is recovering from a hernia operation and has also had 2 strokes due to atrial fib , had a seizure while I was seeing the surgeon. Very scary and now he has to see a neurologist. The surgeon did give me an injection of a non- steroid but so far it hasn't worked. At the moment I am overwhelmed with everything and am losing hope that there will ever be an end . It will be a year in July since my last shot of Prolia. And no,Poodle, I got the shots in my left arm. I could handle it better if it was that shoulder as I'm right handed. Even typing this pains me. Also my front tooth that had an infection is not aching so like all the rest of you I'll probably lose it and have to have an implant. In the meantime I'll look like the wicked witch of wherever! So much for my "golden " years.
Judy, search Dr.Loren Fishman, rotator cuff .
Perhaps you can get some relief, not a cure but relief.
I am so very sorry for your troubles.
Thanks Sal. I checked him out but as he is in New York and I'm in Toronto,Canada it would be very difficult for me to get treatment from him. There seemed to be no actual directions on exactly what his exercises he recommends unless I missed it. All I could do is email him and see if he knows somewhere in Toronto.
Judy~May I suggest you see a different bone surgeon. I do not believe there is any place in the shoulder that unable to be fixed. I know my Dr. does whole shoulder replacements. He thinks the has a fantastic day when he gets to do a whole shoulder and a knee in the same morning. This is not a big city Doc but one that truly loves his work. I adore him. He did my first knee for me and it's been a honey and that hospital is so clean one can eat off the floors plus 2 full RN's per patient and the downstairs is rehab and they get the cream of the crop there. I'm going up this Thursday to set a date for the other knee that was supposed to be done a long time ago. Please recheck again with another orthopedic surgeon. Be well~Pood

"Treatment of irreparable rotator cuff tears"

Poodle,
I need your expertise. Certainly Prolia reduces immunity; but does it activate an OVER active immune system ?
Since Prolia, all my autoimmune conditions are fired up.
Perhaps my experience will help others
Yesterday, I went to my previous dental practice from when I lived in NYC. I saw the chief of Oral Facial Pain. Right now she is treating me conservatively because my whole body is fired up.
Here is her finding : My shoulder joint and muscles are inflamed and contracted, especially the Scalenes. This apparently is pulling my jaw out of alignment, Thus the pain and tightness.
A course of PT for my shoulder is prescribed. Following that will be a reevaluation. This was an "a ha " moment for me. In addition, I asked about the implants such I had been advised to have. For now that is out of the question. At follow up she will evaluate for other options such as a full night guard and a different partial plate.
I had my first Prolia injection and experimented short term memory loss about 5 months later. Now I am back to normal. I have read this can be a side effect. Will I have it each time I have my injection?
Josephine,
I had two shots, the last one 5 and 1/2 months ago. Memory impairment is still an issue , in addition to a multitude of other negative side effects. No more Prolia for me.
Poodle,
I hope you are doing OK.
Best wishes.
Sal~there is something in Prolia that makes autoimmune diseases show up even tho we may never have had any knowledge of having them previously. Case in point, my Celiac Disease. Had never had it before Prolia and just in about the last month it has gone back into remission where I hope it stays. That has lasted a few years longer than the Prolia did and I also noticed when I forgot to take a pain pill, the muscle/tendon in my neck that was going into my jaw is still there. It's the side where I got the injection. It's not in the jaw area now but it sure the heck is still in my neck. Apparently, certain things can long outlast the end of Prolia because now there are just a couple of molecules left but they are sufficient to cause a bit of a problem. This is scientifically impossible but it is happening and I would swear to God with my hand on a Bible. I curse the day I had that one and only injection of poison Prolia. I got my implants and they healed quickly and well. I have to go back for an X-ray next Tues and I am expecting good news on that front. They had to do more than my usual amount of donor bone but that does not cost more. I'm wondering if you can have 3 implants that hold the denture that is then drilled into the implant and covered with what they use for no see fillings now that become solid with some type of special light dentists have. Two in the back, one on each side, and one in front. It looks and feels like natural teeth. Have you looked at them? Be well and hang in there -- it can only get better. Pood
