Prolia Side Effects Duration (Page 8) (Top voted first)
UpdatedWould like to know if anyone had side effects from Prolia but they went away - and how long did it take for that to happen?
Re: Nikki (# 106)
Glad to be able to read someone s experience with prolix. I have not taken yet and am really scared of the side effects. There seem to be too many. Some people get along fine, but l am worried that l might not be so lucky. My scan is certainly not good- 33% loss. I am fair, slender frame white, dry skin prone to upset stomachs even though not at present - otherwise pretty healthy- walk about 5 times a week. Have been swinging back and forth with this. Anyone want to comment? See above that l misspelled prolia. Not going back to correct.

Exact thing with me, my feet numbness is also gone most of the time and I am starting to feel better it has been almost 6 months to the day. My blood calcium also dropped hopefully it is back to normal I too had ultra sound of kidney, ultra sound on para thyroid and was exrayed from head to foot and everything was normal
Re: Bunny (# 108)
Hi Bunny~I certainly would not recommend Prolia to anyone. Its side effects outweigh the benefits and it only puts down brittle old bone on top of brittle old bone. Not a winner there. There is a drug I use and it works well. It's called Calcitonin. Drs don't like it very much because it's old and cheap. Your best bet would be to get it from an Orthopedic Dr. It's made from Salmon but has zero fish smell or taste. My Mother was on it from 60 years of age to 98 years of age and never ever broke a bone again although she did fall very often. I am also very happy with it. I fell on the hardwood floors with a hip implant and got up, dusted myself off and kept on going. It does not interfere with our immune system at all and only has one very small side effect that about never happens because it's so very rare. I could not recommend it highly enough. Think about it. It works! Thank you for coming here before you took the Prolia. Be well~
Re: Poodle (# 111)
I am very careful only use organic products and make my own using shea butter and coconut oils. No perfumes anymore as it will cause a rash. I used prednisone at first of rash. No more. I have an autoimmune disorder so i am very careful anyway. Now tho the stuff that never bothered me before does. My MD is clueless. I just use trial and error and listen to my body. In another post Pood you said that the main side effect we suffered would always be there just less.
Re: cindy (# 3)
It is the worst drug ever! It has chemo in the formula. I was never given reading material and kick myself for not looking up on internet. Tell a doctor you have had the injection and all of the side effects. Doctors take up for each other and will disagree with you and your problems. I had one injection 7 months ago and side effects beginning the first week, and sick, sick and all the doctors I went to would not do anything for me as they did not know what to do. I would ask doctors if they knew what prolia was and they would rambled around and some would admit they did not know much about it....Even the orthopedic and gastro doctors. You would think they would know! Three months after the injection I began to have thoracic/neck pain, and after one epidural I am still in pain and yes my arms hurt so bad. Gabapentin for pain was given to me for pain, one each day working up to three each day. I was a walking zombie and could not tell it helped. I went off of that and trying aleve and tylenol again until I can change doctors in january because of insurance.
Re: Bunny (# 108)
Hi Bunny,
My skin is fair, I have a small frame, dry skin and a number of stomach issues along with gluten intolerance and arthritis. My doctor refused to put me on Calcitonin. I tried twice. He said it doesn't work. There are side effects to Calcitonin too, so I don't know.
Currently, I'm not taking anything for the osteoporosis. I plan on going to the YMCA and working on the machines and treadmill but sheesh, I keep getting sick. I had an x-ray this week because I'm having a muscle issue in my left arm. We have no idea what caused it. I think it could be from the Prolia, as is most of the new health issues I'm experiencing.
I'm about to research how women are after stopping Prolia, assuming the information is out there. I'd like to be as prepared as possible in fighting this.
Hugs to you and everyone else who is suffering because of this drug.
Nikki
Re: Nikki (# 116)
If you go back to the Y try water aerobics or something from the aquatic program. Helps build strength but gentle on joints. Helped me as I came off Prolia.
Re: Elaine (# 114)
What I meant when I wrote that certain problems last beyond the half-life of Prolia is that it can cause severe damage to the human body up to and including death. It has zero to do with one cell of Prolia in a human body. Just do not expect to be completely and totally well within six months. If only one inj. and with a lot of help one can feel pretty well after the six months are up because our immune system starts to return to 'normal' again. I am years past the dreaded Prolia shot and living in the wake of its destruction which is my spine breaking and my hair falling out and not recovering -- another thread here at medschat. Be well~
Re: Poodle (# 118)
Hi, What kind of help? It has been a year since my last shot and I can't get rid of the infections.
Take Care
Re: teddt (# 121)
Would you mind asking if the 'jaw' issue (osteocronisis of the jaw) also includes the roots to teeth that Prolia kills before it goes to the jaw bone itself. I lost two and had implants put in. Other ladies here have lost all of their upper teeth and one in Canada has lost her front teeth. Implants are very expensive and it is my opinion Amgen should be paying for them together with the crowns on top. We all of taken very, very good care of our teeth. Thanks in advance, Pood
Re: Elaine (# 123)
Prolia causes our immune system to diminish by knocking out T-cells and T-cell helpers. Will this damage be permanent? I can be if you do not get into an Immunologist to get it corrected. Prolia also causes unknown problems in our DNA to come front and center. Again, an Immunologist is required. I can only thank mine that I am here today After my Prolia injection I was so very sick, throwing up and severe diarrhea along with all the other complaints I developed a gluten intolerance. It was horrid and I could not even smell it. Lost 65 pounds in 3 months and white as a sheet. My Doc ran Immunoglobulins and IgA was extremely low (64). At that point she got with an Immunologist that worked with her to get my immune system working correctly and I can now eat all the gluten I want with no problem. I would highly suggest you see one ASAP to find ways to take yours to where it belongs. Sometimes a small tumor can grow on a thyroid gland that will cause your problem too. Get with an Immunologist and find out how to treat your specific problem. It does not have to last forever with the correct medical help. You can be well but you have to have the correct people helping you get there. You will need a referral to see one and that should be easy. Be well~Pood
Re: Poodle (# 124)
My wife has a compromised Immune system,,,HIV,,,it was under control, CD4 count was in the high 700's. And totally undetectable. Since first Fosamax for 3 months, then a Prolia shot in May 2017. She's lost 100 in her CD4 and is now detectable. She's had a false Heart Attack, skin on her hands felt like leather, inflammation in her Ankles as big as a grapefruit. We are now fully in the middle of the 6th month. The only thing that has left is the inflammation. She can't taste food, has lost 30 pounds, pain all over her body. But she is walking a little better without her cane. I've talked to Amgen, now I've noticed they've changed their website warnings about this drug. But she was never supposed to have been given that shot. All we can do is pray, and hold out for more time.
Re: Poodle (# 122)
I had problems with a crown (pre-existing problem) and dentist would not admit it was Prolia. It was my mouth, Doc. Also had tongue and mouth sores. What a time that was. Jaw popping.
Re: Elaine (# 123)
I agree Prolia affects the immune system. My experience with this drug will be in my mind until I die! It is poison!
Re: Jan (# 133)
Good Post Jan. I am contacting local Attorneys in Denver to sue the Dr. and Amgen for what they've done to my wife. She's been living in a Hell for the last 7 months but things are slowing coming around. Stay strong.
Re: teddt (# 134)
Keep us posted. I hope you do well with an attorney. I called two but none were interested yet. I think it is lovely how you are supporting your wife! I lived in Parker 9 years - have a daughter in Highlands Ranch with a Grandbaby on the way in May. I hope to continue to improve a little each day... I will stay as strong as I can... same to both you and your wife~stay strong(er)!
Re: Jan (# 135)
I will let you know jan about the attorney. There are two in the Denver area that are working on it for us.
Re: teddt (# 134)
So glad you are seeing an attorney about this issue. I fear attorney's do not want to step on doctor prescribing. Actually I asked two doctors if they knew what Prolia is and they mumbled around and said "well I have heard of it". Don't you think a orthopedic and gastro doctor would know? I went to both of these and got no results as they did not know what to say. They disc me. I have a new ortho doctor in January. The other practice will not let me change doctors within a practice, even though my Pain Management Doctor put in a request. Piedmont Ortho in Greenville, SC sucks.
Re: Maritere (# 139)
There was information in this post about Prolia I wasn't aware of. Thank you so much for sharing.
Re: Barb (# 145)
Yes, I believe it does. I saw my GP for severe bladder spasms she started treating me for UTI . But the culture did not have any bacteria growth. That did subside after about 7 days, but the joint and WHOLE body pain is almost unbearable. It has been a month since my last, and I do mean LAST injection. Can't deal.
