Prolia & Hair Loss (Page 7)

I've just recently had my second Prolia shot. So far so good...a little back pain. I continually have stress fractures on my feet and have also taken fosamax. My current problem is hair loss & I wondered if anyone else was having that problem?
Re: julie (# 349)
I had written that by taking a multivitamin that it seemed that the hair loss I was experiencing after the 2nd prolia injection had subsided. I was wrong. A couple of months later, the hair loss continues and it's not pleasant to say the least, considering that just a year ago I had double the amount of hair. My next injection is scheduled for April 1st--and I'm hoping that there's an alternative. I hope that I did not give anyone too much hope that a multivitamin might prevent worsening hair loss. I am truly sorry having given that misleading information.

I agree!!!!! These prolia injections must be discontinued immediately!!! I had four injections that caused my hair loss in one month. Not a single hair on my head. I am completed devastated at this dramatic shock. Do not listen to the endocrinologists, they receive commission from pharmaceutical companies (amgen) to sell their product. Take my advice and never listen to them. Do not take these prolia shots. You'll regret it. Even after my four injections, my bone density did not increase. There are other ways to get your calcium. This is a warning!!!
Re: dietitian (# 345)
I will try the multi... it certainly can't hurt. thanks
Re: dietitian (# 345)
Glad that helped you. I don't hold much stock in vitamins and supplements, but 6 months ago I did start a multivitamin and some supplements for my immune system. My hair has not improved...nor is it worse. It may be your body is recovering as the Prolia leaves...though I doubt it totally leaves ever.
Re: Goat c (# 164)
I've lost almost all my eyebrow hair after 2 prolia injections.
Re: Lizzie123 (# 342)
I do have a little good news. A month ago, I decided to add a multi-vitamin to my diet. This was a leap of faith for me, because I relied entirely on my diet until now. I noticed that my hair stopped falling out as much, and I attribute this to the iron in the supplement. I also appreciate the opportunity to share with others, and having done so, my anxiety has diminished enormously. The best to all.
Re: Marilyn (# 335)
Vertigo had been a very big issue for me as well. I had to stop getting my hair washed at the beauty parlor as I couldn't stand up after the shampoo. All of those things I also had at one time or another while getting the Prolia shots but I never linked where the problem had came from. I am still messed up with aching bones and hair fall out like a dog. I will never, ever take any treatment a doctor recommends again without checking it out.
Re: Karen (# 339)
Hi. I had the same problem with lumps on my hands and wrist, which just appeared after the Prolia. Hair loss continues, skin is awful with lumps and bumps. Doctors deny it is the Prolia but I know it is. Too many people on this site have the same problem. It's a poison, and never again. I tell everyone I know never to have this treatment.
Re: dietitian (# 334)
I am glad you found some positives! So we can now be bald people with no eyelashes who do not have to shave their legs and have no underarm hair. LOL.... Our misery does indeed love company. I am really happy that we have this site to share our experiences. Blessings and thanks to all who share here..
Re: Marilyn (# 338)
I just went through that cough business in July. I blamed all the flying and the sickness that people say is picked up on flights. We flew to Ma., Canada and home. We flew to Hawaii in September. The cough got worse instead of better. I went to the doctor in Hawaii and was given cough syrup script. It continued in October and finally stopped the beginning of Nov. I had already stopped taking Prolia the year before. I have no idea what caused this but when I was a child I had bronchitis often.
Re: Karen (# 339)
I am so sorry for all of your troubles. I only had one shot but had the hair loss... I have not had a shot for 4 months but still deal with the hair issue. I went to a dermatologist who told me it was dermatitis of my scalp which made sense as Prolia can cause rashes. I use TSal shampoo and take biotin daily. It is an ongoing battle and my hair is really thin. I am not losing hair as rapidly as before, but still shed quite a bit. Hope things get better for you as you distance yourself from the drug.
It has now been over a year and I/2 of not taking Prolia. I had no idea when I stopped on my own that it was not allowed. My doctor was not happy that I had done this. My doctor had not told me that once I had this shot I had to continue for ever. I had the shots for two years and my bone scans showed no improvements in my bone thickness at all. The only thing that changed was my hair and skin. I have gangiloids growing on one arm and bone spurs on 6 fingers. My hair looks like it needs a good conditioner, which it has, and my hair is still falling out in hands full every day. Help? Not one outfit, doctor or any person reading this.
Re: dietitian (# 337)
My ENT couldn't find another cause for the cough or any of the other symptoms that are in his bailiwick. A cough is a side effect I have seen listed for Prolia. He was thorough with allergy testing, a chest x-ray (I've had breast cancer), nasal endoscopy and a head scan. I would have felt better about going forward with Prolia, if I could find there was another reason for any of the many miseries. I cough all the time - it never goes away.
Re: Marilyn (# 335)
Yes! Chronic cough--as soon as I'm over one bout of coughing, a month goes by and then another throat irritation and now I have a cough again. I thought it was due to exposure to my grandchildren, but I'm immune to their germs by now. I am now searching for scientific evidence as to whether diet, exercise, meditation, oral calcium and vitamin D supplements will substitute for Prolia. I will post a link when I find something truly credible.
You are not alone. Everything you mentioned I have experienced and still experience. Prolia may be good for strengthening the bones but the side effects have made me regret going through the procedure. I haven't had an injection in almost a year, before Prolia I did Forteo every day for a year and Prolia every six months for two years. I can't say I have had a good day since I started. My bones may be stronger but I haven't felt physically good since I started on this journey called Osteoporosis. So again ”you are not alone ”.
Re: dietitian (# 334)
I shaved my legs in May and didn't have to do it again all summer! There is no question in my mind and experience that this is all related to Prolia, and it's so upsetting to have my doctor tell me that I am the only one. This is a very large practice with multiple physicians and years of specializing in osteoporosis care and treatment, so I know there has to be others experiencing some of the same things.Worried that I might have something else going on, I have seen other doctors to check out things I was experiencing like chronic cough, acid reflux, vertigo episodes, and fatigue to rule out other causes, and they found no other cause.
Re: Marilyn (# 332)
Now that you mentioned it, my eyebrows are also thinning. I hardly have any lashes even though I applied this product called "EyEnvy" onto the lids of my eyes close to the lashes. It was working well before the 3rd injection. There is a bright side: fewer hairs underneath my chin, and I hardly have to shave my legs and armpits!
Re: Marilyn (# 332)
I have nothing positive to say. My immune system suffered and my hair still hardly grows. My jaw is popping loudly now. I had 2 shots, the last in November 2014. I'll just do nothing and let nature take it's course.
Re: dietitian (# 330)
Not only have my hair and eyebrows been thinning, particularly noticeable after the 3rd shot, but my eyelashes are almost gone. Two specialists have vehemently denied that any other patient of theirs has experienced this or any of the other many side effects I have experienced. My 4th shot was scheduled yesterday, 12/26, but I postponed because I have out-of-town visitors arriving today, but mostly because I have been on the fence about continuing. I feel trapped because of the dangers of rebound fractures, and have been advised that I will need to take something because of that. I know those taking this drug without any problems are the least likely to comment on any online site, but I would have a lot more confidence if I could hear of some positive experiences and outcomes. My doctor did admit to me that there simply are not any really good pharmaceutical options at this time for the treatment of osteoporosis.
Re: dietitian (# 330)
I am now 3 months without the Prolia shot. My hair loss has slowed considerably... Have been taking Body 1 Hair Skin and Nails since the first shedding occurred after the shot... now I just take a biotin supplement. Also had gone to the dermatologist when hair first started falling out.. he said sebhoric (can't spell that) dermatitis on the scalp.. which made sense because skin problems are a side effect of Prolia. Am taking the Algaecal/Strontium but do not know if it will work or not. I am still getting some pretty severe bone pain in various places, but it goes away after a few days. I don't what lies ahead with osteo problems, but I know for now I do not have the overwhelming fatigue I had after the shot and still have some hair. That is enough for the moment!
