Prolia & Hair Loss (Page 4) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI've just recently had my second Prolia shot. So far so good...a little back pain. I continually have stress fractures on my feet and have also taken fosamax. My current problem is hair loss & I wondered if anyone else was having that problem?

Hi. I had the same problem with lumps on my hands and wrist, which just appeared after the Prolia. Hair loss continues, skin is awful with lumps and bumps. Doctors deny it is the Prolia but I know it is. Too many people on this site have the same problem. It's a poison, and never again. I tell everyone I know never to have this treatment.
Re: VerFree (# 356)
I am in several support groups for Prolia and Osteoporosis. Hair loss is actually a frequently reported side effect.
From Prolia—- hair loss, teeth had 4 root canals, almost lost all my teeth. Other side effects almost killed me. If ever they take this company to court for all the problems and sickness for taking this shot, I’m there all the way. Something needs to be done about what happens to people. I’m always ready to share my experience.

Like me, my sister was on Fosamax for years starting in the mid 90s. She ended up with an esophagus that was entirely ulcerated. She was in the hospital in very serious condition for two weeks and her doctors said it WAS caused by Fosamax. My doctor vehemently denies side effects from Prolia, but I definitely experienced hair loss. It has been ten months since my last Prolia shot (the third) and while I am not noticing re-growth, I think the loss I notice when shampooing is a little less. One clear sign that it was Prolia is that I am again shaving my legs after not having to do so for months. The hair loss was but one of the side effects I experienced.
Re: J (# 394)
J, your post made me both sad and angry. Sad for you and mad as hell at the drug company that make this crap! First they scare you about osteoporosis then the doctor presents a cure that is way worse than not treating the osteoporosis. Hopefully, someday, the makers will be held accountable and be forced to pay out to the injured parties. And.....if nothing else, they'll pay in the next life!

Physicians will totally deny side effects from Prolia and tell you that you are the only one who has ever complained, so don't be surprised if that is what you hear. I am in a couple of support groups with thousands of members, and have learned that is the universal response. My third and final Prolia injection was in June of 2018, and the hair on my arms and legs grew back in this summer, so I know the loss was due to Prolia. I still have spots on my scalp that are very sparse, and I am still losing more than I should and can't tell that it is growing back at all. I also have acid reflux that I never had before Prolia, and my gastroenterologist told me that he sees a lot of patients on Prolia with gastric problems. I also had severe joint pain, that started early on in my treatment, to the point that I could hardly walk. That has resolved by stopping as well as the extreme fatigue. I also had an issue with a tooth, which may or may not be related. Bottomline. my overall health took a nosedive when I started this drug. Now I have to worry about rebound fractures which is upsetting to a person who has never fractured before. I feel I am worse off than when I started.
Yes hair loss is one of the adverse event among many others. This drug can attack your immune system at any time in the cycle of injections. It can hit with horrific side effects after 1 injection or after more than one. It spares no one except the adverse symptoms are similar to many other common ailments. Read all posts in this chat room and you will see what I mean. I am almost 1 year since my one and only injection and it is hell for me to function. Every week I have some new adverse symptom, some stay some disappear. I so regret having that one treatment and have reported the physician for negligence and malpractice because she also told me there were no sever side effects and I believed her like an idiot.

I am at two years with no shot now. Am still losing hair but at nowhere near the initial rate of loss. Hair looks normal... I still use a comb with really big teeth and not a brush. Haircut is short with lots of layers which seems to cover missing spots. So--- there still could be hope, it just takes time.
I had seven shots, they were horrible for me. Hair loss yes, back and joint pain! As I have stated many times this Drug Prolia was horrible for me. Falls from the vertigo is caused, I have permanent damage to my whole body. It aged me by at least 10 years. I did not know that it is a form of Chemotherapy! Give to patients with bone cancer! Wish I had known all of the terrible side effects, I would have never taken it and will never take it again! Prolia Poison!!
Hair loss, horrible back and muscle pain! That is just a few of the many horrible side effects of Prolia. As I have stated many times, Prolia has been a nightmare for me personally! It has done a lot of permanent damage to my body., and I now know I will never be the same. It is a form of chemotherapy, used for bone cancer patients. I have reported it to the FDA many times to no avail. Prolia, a nightmare for me! I hope this helps others not to have to suffer as I am suffering from Prolia!
Hi, Yes, I have lost my hair about 2" back all around my face plus general thinning. It started after my first shot and continued after my 2nd until I stopped the shots. I also had terrible leg pain all the time - worse if I laid down. I have been off for about a year and feel great except when I look in the mirror!
Don't start! Have your doctor calculate your risk of broken bones without medication. My endocrinologist did and found that I had a 25% chance of any broken bone and a 10% chance of a broken hip in the next 10 years. I will take that risk as I feel it is much better than what I went thru with any of the osteoporosis medications! My mother was on Fosamax for years and she broke her shoulder, knee, pelvis 2 times and her hip! I like to think that I have a 75% chance of not breaking any bones and a 90% chance of not breaking my hip in the next 10 years. I am now 79.
Hello, Gracie! How are you?
No, this isn't listed from what I can find, but I'll check a couple more sources to be sure and post back.
Are you on any other medications? How old are you?
I have not gone for my 3rd shot of Prolia because of the hair loss, yet! My hair is growing back and filling in the thinned spots. I should have had the shot by January.
I am still not sure what I will do because I recently had a tooth implant and when I returned 4 months later for the post and crown, the oral surgeon said that so much bone had grown over the implant that he had to take some off the implant. This proves to me that the Prolia and the calcium must be working!!!
I am so upset and horrified!! My waist length hair is falling out in masses. I'm 32, got the shot less than a month ago and have had excessive hair loss and don't know what to do. Has anyone experienced the after affects, does it regrow? Hair loss is just devestating.
I had this injection just several weeks ago and immediately started noticing hair loss. I did not make the connection until I started digging and came across this post.
Has your hair loss slowed? How much have you lost because mine is now very thin after a few weeks. Does anyone have suggestions on what to do for the hair loss besides steroids as I can't use them due to glaucoma. I am starting Rogaine today!
I had a Prolia inj. in late March. Shortly thereafter my hair started falling out. Every time I brush it or run my hands through it, or after shampooing, handfuls come out. It is horrifying as to how thin it is now. I firmly believe this is indeed a side effect of that drug, despite the pharma company sales reps' denying it. I was scheduled for a 2nd inj. the end of September and cancelled it. Never again will I get another shot. Not only has the hair loss been terrible, the aches, pains, swollen joints for no reason, closed throat, difficulty swallowing, coughing, blurred vision and a host of other side effects have been a nightmare to live with. NONE of these things were an issue before I received the inj. Do NOT get it.
Christine, I had a dexa scan to determine the osteoporosis. I was taking Boniva with no positive results in bone mass. I was in excellent health with no fractures & certainly no stress involved prior too, however the stress came dealing with the horrible pain induced induced by prolia. Hips, thighs, & groin to the point that I could barely walk. I cried day after day from the pain with no relief in sight. It's been over 12 months now & it is beginning to come & go, but mostly come. I hope your experience & others are not quite so horrible.
Christine~FYI -- Prolia ia a chemo drug. It's twin just has more of the Chinese hamster ovaries in it. What happens when we go thru chemo? Hair falls out. Just because it has not happened to you does not mean in the least that it has not happened to the rest of us. We are not cookie cutter people. Everyone of us is different. Maybe you are younger with a healthier immune system to begin with -- dunno but please do not judge Anne on your experience. Be well~Pood
OMG! I am losing alot of hair and I had baby fine hair in begin with! I took my second Prolia shot in June. I am not going to get another!
I'm going to go on an extensive high protein diet like avocados etc.
Going natural is my way from now on!!!!
Then next year get my 2 year bone density test and see and go from there.
I am a 49 year old breast cancer survivor and am taking Anastrozle that has caused bone loss. I just received my first Prolia shot in June 2016 and I can't get over the hair loss I am experiencing. I went through 4 months of chemo and lost my hair back in 2012. I am devastated that I am dealing with this now!
