Prolia & Hair Loss (Page 3) (Top voted first)

Updated

I've just recently had my second Prolia shot. So far so good...a little back pain. I continually have stress fractures on my feet and have also taken fosamax. My current problem is hair loss & I wondered if anyone else was having that problem?

Hi all~Pood here. One year and 3 months post Prolia and my hair is just barely starting to get better. I cannot have any Pred. as it is what caused my osteoporosis in the first place. Back is getting better and I still take magnesium (500 mg) every night at bedtime to keep the muscle cramps away. Prolia binds to RANKL and that L is a very, very important letter as it means our immune system. With a good half of our immune system deleted we get everything no matter how much we clean because germs and viruses are in the air. I like to take 2400 mg of calcium but my Dr. said I was doing it wrong and wasting it. I need to have acid in the stomach for the calcium to work so a glass of lemonade, a piece of cheese, just anything so I can get all 4 tablets working well. My appetite post Prolia is not overly wonderful. It will end, I promise, but it takes a lot of time to get this poison our of our bodies. It may go poof in 6 months but it's side effects sure do not. Stay well~Pood

Hair loss is not on any website that I can find & I have saved all 198 places I have searched in an offline file. The nearest I can get to this issue is from the National Cancer Institute stating that prolia is a cancer drug & as we are all aware, cancer drugs cause hair loss - Period. Good luck as it has been 1 year & 2 weeks since I had my 1 & only inj. & am still losing my hair. This is the devil's drug.

I noticed hair loss over the last few months, much more than before Prolia. I only recently realized that the two were related. Not sure it's worth the next injection, due in November.

I will never take P again, hair loss was only part of awful students effects.

Diane, It's usually a waste to talk to doctors about prolia's side effects. Most refuse to believe what you are going through because they are still smiling from the check they received from Amgen (maker of prolia). Embedded deep within their 30 page presentation to the FDA (page 19 or 20) there is mention of hair loss with prolia. Amazing how they attempt to hide this from us, prior to the inj. Shame on our doctors for not allowing us to read the med information before we make a decision on taking the shot. There is also mention of developing cataracts as well as cancer. I empathize with you & all of the others out there that are going through the side effects of the devil's drug. It is now getting close to 2 years since I had my 1st & last inj. & am still losing my hair. I foresee a wig shop in my future. Good luck...

I just saw this awful story. I have been getting shots for four years at two per year. I have been losing my hair like crazy. I blamed my statin drug. MY hairdresser blamed my age and said that was normal for someone my age. MY age is 73. I feel like such a dope. IT was my husband who thought of this drug as the cause. My last bill used the name of the drug as something other than Prolia and it sounded.ike chemotherapy. That was when we decided to look up hair loss as I have been so upset. The neropathey has been a nightmare and as Iam type 2 I blamed that. I also have that awful itch but in a unmentionable area. Thanks for all this info.

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU I WILL NOT START PROLIA!! I am grateful for all of your inputs.

Correct. I think there should be a legal suit against the makers of Prolia for not divulging that it causes hair loss. This is so wrong.

Numb and tingling is a side effect from Prolia. It's called 'neuropathy' if I have it spelled correctly. You would have to speak to your Dr. about which drug(s) counteract it to get relief. Others have reported it too. Amgen denies nothing. They believe and our Governments believe that the benefit outweigh the risks. I happen to very much disagree with that belief. Drs. swear an Oath 'to do no harm'. Look what they are doing to us. Is that 'do no harm'?

Sharyl (# 221) --

I am so sorry for the terrible pain you are suffering from. I also feel the drug should be taken off the market or at least people should be warned of all side effects that Amgen know about... I did see whilst surfing the internet that there was a legal case against Amgen ref Prolia, so maybe try and find out about that. I hope that you get some relief from the pain.

Re: Sad lady (# 222) Expand Referenced Message

Thank you for your understanding as I have had no one to listen to me other than my family. I still can’t walk good. Does anyone seem to have any vascular problems? I am having great pains in my groin area. This is an acid they put in my body I feel like. I am talking to an attorney now but if anyone thinks we all should get together and try to get a legal suit against Amgen, I’ll be front row to that! I’d say individual legal suits are going to have to be the case but I will go above and beyond to try and get this poisonous drug off the market. I don’t want to see anyone die or become permanently disabled because of this.

Re: Patricia (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

Hi. I had very similar symptoms to you. I lost all my hair, also had peripheral neuropathy, vertigo, depression, lack of sleep due to the neuropathy and general aches all over my body, particularly the bones. I had just one injection, and am having no more. The side effects are just not worth it. I contacted Amgen who denied any responsibility and said their drug did not cause hair loss. My consultant dermatologist said that it was known that in a certain percentage of cases, hair loss was known to occur. Having checked the profits made by Amgen from Prolia, I understand why they do not wish this to be listed on the side effects. There are so many people out there suffering that it seems a shame we cannot get a case against them for misleading patients and causing such misery to our lives.

Yes. My Dr said she couldn’t find any info about Prolia making hair fall out which is why I asked this group. Apparently the industry is ignoring us. My hair is falling out with the roots attached. I am distressed. I have decided not to take anymore injections. I am taking tons of vitamins. D and calcium.

Re: Lizzie (# 266) Expand Referenced Message

Amgen absolutely deny that Prolia causes hair loss. I have a letter from them confirming this. Of course it is utter rubbish and we all know that Prolia does cause massive hair loss in many cases , but they fear the loss of dollars and pounds more than the welfare of a recepient of this poison. With all the other side effects I wonder how it was ever passed as fit to give to human beings . But as usual money talks .

Re: Barbra (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

Barbra. I advise you to stop Prolia injections immediately. I myself had no major symptoms but lost all my hair at once in a period of two weeks. That happened after my fourth injection. I had no hair loss after the first, second or third injection. It all happened at once. I AM COMPLETELY BALD. This is a TRUE comment and please let many others know about PROLIA. I also stop visits to my endocrinologist. By the way, Reclast year injection will affect your kidneys.

Yes I heard about a lawsuit called "class lawsuit" where many unsatisfied patients may come together and file a lawsuit. So let's do it. I'm devastated and furious for my hair loss.

Re: Sad lady (# 267) Expand Referenced Message

Sad lady, I agree with you that money talks, everywhere, all the time. Money buys justice, money covers every wrongdoing unfortunately. It is sooo sad that people are paying the price. We must fight to have AMGEN admit their wrongdoing and show us where HAIR LOSS is mentioned in the side effects.

Re: Poodle (# 16) Expand Referenced Message

Sorry for all your troubles! I am having the same issues, received prolia in April and have been having issues ever since. Lost tons of hair which as you know is very upsetting. Have seen every specialist to figure out why and have become sick with trying to determine if hormonal or whatever. Also, have developed cysts which I didn’t have before. Horrible drug, trying to flush it out of my body with lots of water. Don’t think that will help. Never taking it EVER.

Re: dietitian (# 334) Expand Referenced Message

I shaved my legs in May and didn't have to do it again all summer! There is no question in my mind and experience that this is all related to Prolia, and it's so upsetting to have my doctor tell me that I am the only one. This is a very large practice with multiple physicians and years of specializing in osteoporosis care and treatment, so I know there has to be others experiencing some of the same things.Worried that I might have something else going on, I have seen other doctors to check out things I was experiencing like chronic cough, acid reflux, vertigo episodes, and fatigue to rule out other causes, and they found no other cause.
