Prolia & Hair Loss (Page 16) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI've just recently had my second Prolia shot. So far so good...a little back pain. I continually have stress fractures on my feet and have also taken fosamax. My current problem is hair loss & I wondered if anyone else was having that problem?
I only had one injection of Prolia and have a lot of hair loss. My hairdresser suggested eating collagen from bones (the gel on the top is collagen) but he is very vain and going bald so I highly doubt it works. I use a heck of a lot of mousse -- like 4 handfuls and my hair is pretty short. That makes it look much, much thicker. I have not gathered up all the evidence but my Dr. said it is just old age. I don't think I am that old to be thinning like this. Try it at your own risk. I'm not going to. You also have to be aware that Prolix's twin, Xgeva is a chemo drug and Prolia just contains less of the active ingredient which is made from Chinese Hamster ovaries. Please report all side effects to the FDA in the USA or to Amgen themselves as they are bound by law to report it to the FDA. Be well~Pood
I received my first shot in November 2016. I was sick with nausea and was in bed for a week. Also, experienced exhaustion. Then I started noticing my hair everywhere and texture was different. My husband said he noticed, but him or my friends would say anything til I mentioned it. I had pretty hair and I have been sick about this. This is the only thing new added to meds or my diet. Hope it grows back. So glad there was a blog to share and know others experienced this issue.
I have had five prolix injections. I am noticing that my hair is becoming thin! I am very healthy woman, taking no other medication.
Who do we contact about this problem besides other doctor?
I wish I saw this website earlier; it didn't click to me that Prolia has always been the culprit for my hair loss. OMG, I've already had the 4 shots and am dealing with hair loss. With lots of research and vitamin supplements, etc., it is very difficult to find the cause as I'm diabetic, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, post-menopausal, ovaries removed, thyroid issues on my mother's side, hereditary possibility....and now because of Prolia! Last shot in December, 2016 - when will it wear off? Anyone?
I'm in my 3rd year of taking Prolia and side effects are just getting worse. Now my hair is falling out by the handfuls!!!!
Thank you so much for the information on the page number. You can bet this is going to my doctor. I've had one inj. and I will not have another. I hope this hair loss stops soon.
Had my 3prolia shot 2 months ago and my hair is thinking and falling will not have my 4 shot in October no way .
have been on Prolia for around two years and have suffered great hair loss.
I had Prolia twice in 2015 and my hair is broken off and thinning. It's not growing much either. I had long hair, but I may need to cut it. I stopped Prolia because I was sick a lot that year. I had a terrible ear infection and my hearing in both ears has never been the same. My cousin has been advised to take Prolia and I have strongly told her It's a bad idea. The effects do not go away after stopping.
Yes I had my 3 shot, and yes my hair breaks and it's thinner. No more shots for me.
Well, I have to say after my second year in Prolia my hair is half gone. My bone density is better I went from Osteosporosis to Osteopinia, but I have loss almost half of my hair. I still have a year and half, so I will let you know at the end of my treatment. I rather have my bones strong than hair on my head.
I asked about hair breakage and slow growth. I had two shots of Prolia. I think March 2015 was the last. I stopped it because I thought it affected my immune system which I concluded after I had a virus that included a severe ear infection...both ears...with substantial hearing loss...which never fully resolved. I have noticed my hair is broken off and thinning and brittle. It also grows much slower. I am 69 so I thought it was age related, but it could be the Prolia...it has not improved in 2 years.
This is my third year on Prolia, and I have to say I went from Osteosporosis to Osteophinia, which is a big improvement. However my hair keeps on falling out, and the hair I have is very thin. I only have a choice: Healthy bones or Healthy hair? I guess I am choosing healthy bones, it's easier to buy a wig, than repair my bones.
I have been experiencing hair loss too. I have also taken Prolia twice. Can this just be coincidence?
I had 5 prolia injections so far and my hair has been falling. I actually have half of my hair left, the good news is once your treatment is completed your hair grows back. I am happy to report that I went from Osteoporosis to Osteopinia. Prior to Prolia I also had stress fractures, not anymore.
Thanks for your reply. How long were you on Prolia? I am assuming it is several years? You were extremely lucky to have a reversal from Osteoporosis to Osteopenia. Congratulations! I am seeing my doctor soon and will discuss my hair loss.
It has been 2 years since I had the second Prolia injection and my hair is not growing normally. It used to be almost to my waist in back and now it doesn't even touch the top of my bra closure in back. The only plus AT ALL is that I don't have to color it for almost 10 weeks...before Prolia I colored it every 6 or 7. It's still falling out, very thin and so broken off at the crown in back. I think that stuff makes permanent changes. I know they say you only take it for about 3 years. Also, my hearing has never fully recovered from a virus I got after the first shot. Everyone had this virus...the flu shot was not effective in 2015. My daughter and others also had ear infections with it, but my hearing was nearly gone in both ears for 3 months and then returned partially. I wear hearing aids now. I am not positive it was the Prolia, but I'm concerned it might have made it more severe than others who did not have the shot...because it does weaken the immune system.
I am losing my hair at the crown too. It has been fallen out extremely fast. It is funny that you mention hearing problems. My left ear has been feeling strange. I had my hearing tested a few months ago because I thought there was a problem. They couldn't find a problem, but I am still having problems. Is this all worth it? I am questioning taking this for any length of time.
I have been getting Prolia shots 2 a year for quite awhile and there hasn't been any change in my bone scans. But, as for side effects, there are plenty and none that are good. Hair loss, bone cramps, terrible pain in my cheeks and not my face. Hot flashes and itchy skin in unmentionable places. As to the two doctors who advised this, they roll their eyes. I have quit all shots as of today.
I did read a very small blurb about hearing issues with Prolia, but it was nothing conclusive. I kind of think if you already had a problem, it worsens it. There are bones in your ears too so it makes some sense it would attach to those and thicken them...I don't know if that would cause any issues. I already had some loss and ringing in my ears. Now it's like I have cotton stuffed in them and the ringing is worse. There is nothing they can do about it. I'm hoping the hair will straighten out and grow eventually. Good luck to you.
