since I was 14 I have had multiple chest surgeries including multiple pneumothoraxs, lung recessions, and removals due to AVM's and pulmonary embolisms in both of my lungs. I have been on coumadin since I was 20, but since recently I have not been able make my scheduled doctors visits for INR checks so I resorted to Pradaxa via recommendation from my pulmonary Doctor. I have been on it solid for about a week and a half, and honestly I have had bad stomach pains, inability to eat and mood swings because of it. Also increased bleeding when I cough up blood on occasion. I was told by my doctors this is normal, but it doesn't feel normal. Idk maybe just being a young guy paranoid. Thanks all! 22 year old male, 6'3, 150lbs ## just looking for some recommendations on if Pradaxa is ...
2 REPLIES UpdatedPradaxa at first seems like a good substitute for warfarin ( coumadin ). It does not require regular blood tests and it actually works better. But there's a HUGE problem in the event you develop a bleeding problem whether it be medical such as a stomach ulcer or traumatic such as a traumatic brain injury. In either case it is important that your system be returned to normal clotting function as soon as possible. If you are taking coumadin this is virtually no problem. They merely need to infuse you with an effective antidote, PCC, which will rapidly return your clotting function back to normal. If you are taking Pradaxa, this can be a very big problem BECAUSE THERE IS NO ANTIDOTE FOR PRADAXA that an ER doctor can give you which will reverse the effects of Pradaxa. None. The only thi...
16 REPLIES UpdatedIf you or a loved one has ever taken the drug Pradaxa, please pay close attention to what I have to say because this may be the most important message you ever read. Recently the blood-thinning drug PRADAXA has been linked to life threatening and sometimes fatal internal bleeding and heart attacks. A new study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine has found that Pradaxa was “significantly associated with a higher risk†of heart attacks and acute coronary syndrome compared to similar blood thinning drugs. Over 500 cases of hemorrhaging have been reported to the FDA in the first quarter of 2011 alone. Since this drug was prescribed primarily to the elderly, the number of deaths and serious side effects are much more common among those 65 years or old...
1 REPLY UpdatedI had PE in October 2016 and was put on Pradaxa for DVT. They tried me on it for 6 months, checked my blood work and the doctor said I could go off it. I started to gain weight on it so at the first 5-10 pounds of going up, I cranked up the workouts and protein diet, got my macros in order and the hematologist put me back on it saying since I had it once, PE could happen again. I gained more weight over the course of a year (237 to 256), call it water, muscle, fat, my pant size went up. The doctors were like, "we don't know anything about weight gain as a side effect." Well, brush up doctors, even the FDA has this one logged. I'm asking to go off of it for 30 to 90 days, then recheck my blood work, so if there is a problem I will go back on. But let me lose some weight! ...

How & where can I get this information? ## I had purchased Nusar 50 (Losartan Potassium) with two batch numbers. One batch # is: 16B13010 and another is 16B12009. How can I tell which one is original? ## B.No.2HM3253 MEDICINE EXPIRY DATE ## i want to know manufacturing date & expiry date of tablet cefglobe oz of batch no CEBI004 ## i want to know manufacturing & expiry date of tablet cefglobe oz from batch no CEBI010 ## I am using Pangraf 1mg Capsule twice a day. after 3 month I checked my pangraf level it is below 1.5. 35 REPLIES UpdatedMy mother is 85 years old and her family doctor is suggesting she switch to this drug from Warfin. Are hers chances of a stroke higher or recovering from a stroke with this drug. She no longer drives so getting her INR checked once a month sometimes can be a challenge. Can anyone tell me how this drug is working for them. ## I haven't used the medication, but I can provide you with some more information on it. Pradaxa contains the active ingredient Dabigatran and, when studied were done that compared its efficacy and safety risks to that of Warfarin, it was found to be very comparable and was not shown to increase the risk of bleeding or other problems. You can learn more about it here: It's also been shown to just as effective at preventing clotting, but also to keep the INR mu...
4 REPLIES UpdatedMy 80 yr. old mother had a DVT and was put on Pradaxa 4 mo. ago. Her new Dr. states she's not very familiar with the drug but will "taper" her off it by going down to one pill a day over 3 days. I'm wondering if tapering is necessary or should she just completely stop? Thank you for any answers. ## Why does she wanted her to stop taking it? After having a DVT, it is very important to take steps to prevent a recurrence, and something that helps prevent clotting, such as Pradaxa is usually one of those steps. It may cause side effects, such as nausea, headache, dizziness, stomach irritation, and increased risk of bleeding. Is there a plan to replace it with something else?
1 REPLY UpdatedI am in A Fib and have been for the past 7 months. My Doctor has tried different procedures but so far nothing has worked. Ever since I have been on Pradaxa I have been very short of breath. Even in a sitting position I am short of breath. I did not have this problem before. I don't know it it's the A fib or the Pradaxa, My Doctor doesn't know what is causing the problem. They have done a lot of testing. Has anyone had the same problem? ## We have had other people report such a problem, when taking similar medications, however, there is no way for us to really know if it is being caused by your medical condition, or the medication. Have you seen a cardiologist? They would probably be the most qualified to get to the root of the problem. ## I'm in a similar situation ... ...
35 REPLIES UpdatedIs there any assistance out there which will make Pradaxa affordable? I was able to get the savings card and use it at Walgreens for the 1st month but they say I am allowed to go one time outside my network with Kaiser. Kaiser has it for 211$ and other places have quoted upwards of 425$ for a month supply. That is pretty impossible to keep up with and still pay for the other 4 medications I am on. I wonder if anyone has ideas on how to pay for such an expensive medicine? ## Hello Ron, Fortunately there are many PAP (prescription assistance programs). It does take some research to find them but I would really need to know your current situation to know if you qualify or not. It would just be too much information to sift through listing every possible PAP but there is one that I found on ...
1 REPLY UpdatedI hate that crap. I lost my hair and when I asked the nurse about it, she looked it up and yes that is a side effect. That is the worst thing I have ever had done to me. It should be taken off the market. You can hardly eat a meal without the lawyers on TV telling you to contact them if you have a problem with Pradaxa. ## Hello, Peg! How are you? I'm very sorry about what happened. However, all medications carry the risk of causing side effects, it's just what happens when you add a chemical to the body to try to correct a problem. Some are more hazardous and risky than others and there's no way to know ahead of time, if any given person will or will not experience them. The legal complaints involve bleeding issues, which carry the risk of being fatal. Hair loss is unfortuna...
5 REPLIES UpdatedNow that I am taking pradaxa, I can no longer take arthrotec for arthritis. Is there any other arthritis medication I can take? ## Hello, Denis! How are you? You should be able to take medications that don't cause blood thinning, which the Diclofenac in the Arthrotec does. (Diclofenac NDC code for more information 0054-4223.) The FDA lists the typical side effects of Pradaxa as possibly including nausea, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising. (Pradaxa 0597-0149). What other medications have you tried? ## I have taken no other medication for arthritis except hydrocodone, 1 a day. This does not do much except for a short time and does contain acetaminophen which can cause liver problems. Since the arthritis is long term (30+ yrs so far, I am 62) I am looking for opti...
2 REPLIES UpdatedI have been on for Pradaxa for just under a month. I had gained about 12 pounds from not being able to walk due to new A Fib. Now with Pradaxa, i'm able to walk a mile plus per day. I have been walking again for over 2 weeks. I have lost the 12 pounds and a couple of more. Instead of a loss of appetite, I have a curbing of my appetite, I am approaching my 20 year old weight. ## That is awesome, many report the opposite when taking this class of medications, so the FDA lists the common side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising. (NDC 0597-0149 for more details.) Has anyone else experienced weight loss while taking this medication? ## Still at the same weight loss/12 pounds I take the med with 8 ounces of ...
2 REPLIES UpdatedMy husband took his Saturday and Sunday evening meds during dinner; pradaxa, metopropal tartrate, and flomax. Is this a huge problem? I'm more worried about the pradaxa. I looked up the metopropal tartrate but could not find pradaxa. ## Hi Patti, According to the University of Maryland Medical Center's drug interaction tool, there is a quote "medium interaction potential" between Flomax and Metoprolol. Their warning denotes the following concerns: *Treatment with both drugs may result in low blood pressure (too low I'm assuming) *Using both together may result in an increased risk of certain side effects *Call your doctor if you feel lightheaded, or have fainting spells They also go on to state that your doctor may change the dose or how often you use one or both of ...
2 REPLIES UpdatedWhat have people done who need surgery (probably open surgery for gall bladder) and taking Pradaxa. I have fears about having a stroke if I stop taking it and I know that I will have to take it. Thoughts please? ## In most cases, they have you stop it for a few days, before surgery, then resume taking it, once any risk of bleeding has passed, but you should follow your doctor's instructions on what to do, according to the NIH. Gall bladder surgery is rarely fully open, now, it usually just requires a small incision to insert a microscopic instrument. The amount of bleeding and healing time is usually very minimal. Have you been provided any pre-op instructions, yet? ## No, don't know for sure if I will need it (feeling better). I have a large wide-month hernia in my abdomen (tha...
2 REPLIES UpdatedBeen on Pradaxa fro three months, experiencing severe itching all over. If I stop taking Pradaxa how long will it take for itching to stop? ## Hello, Alexandra! How are you doing? Has there been any change? Many medications in this class can cause itching, due to the effect they have on your circulation and, if you switch medications, it may take a few weeks for the side effects to go away. But please do not stop taking it, without consulting your doctor. Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and easy bruising. Is there anything else I can help with?
1 REPLY Updated2 months ago my doctor prescribed Pradaxa because I have Dvt. I have other health issues therefore I take quite a few meds. After 1 month on Pradaxa, I said to the doc, there are 2 things a woman doesn't want to happen, 1-gain weight and 2- lose your hair. My genius doc said, hair loss is not a side effect. Told him I don't know where ha gets his info. I took it upon myself to stop Pradaxa. I have been off for 1 week & my hair keeps falling out. Anybody know when the hair loss stops and will your hair come back. To add insult to injury I began to gain weight. I am quite crippled due to severe arthritis in my hips so I don't want to carry any extra weight on my hips. Any ideas when that hunger eases up. Thanks. ## Hello, Dee Dee! How are you? I'm sorry about the probl...
1 REPLY UpdatedHi guys, I have been on warfrin for 25 years and am 45 years old. Given warfrin early in life after several failed cardioversion's with afibb and been on beta blockers. Affib has not effected my life one bit other than the INR tests. I have been on Pradaxa for about 2 weeks and have noticed a lot harder and bigger erections. Has anyone else experienced this condition, not that I'm complaining. Thanks ## Yes indeed. I also too. I am 68 years old. I am on Pradaxa for about 2 months and sometimes take Sildenafil. NOW DO NOT NEED SILDENAFIL ANYMORE. ## How does prodaxa interact with meth
2 REPLIES UpdatedI was on Warfarin for 8 months then all of a sudden I was getting wild readings when my INR was checked. Had to go on heparin bridge shots which I had a really bad reaction to. My Dr. then put me on Pradaxa and I felt so much better, but after about 3 months I started losing gobs of hair. I am freaking out. Also have bouts of diarrhea. I am to be treated for pulmonary blood clots. Anyone else have these issues? When I stop the Pradaxa, will my hair grow back? This is causing me great stress. ## Hello, Patricia! How are you? I'm very sorry about the issues you're experiencing. It isn't something that the FDA lists among its typical side effects, but many people have experienced it among real world use reports. In most cases, drug induced alopecia reverses, once someone stops ...
2 REPLIES UpdatedI forgot to take my 8 am dosage of pradaxa and cardizen pills and took them at 5 pm. when I remembered, should I skip the 8 pm dosage and continue on schedue in morning? I missed my morning meds and took them late this afternoon . pradaza and cardizen. I am due a night dose at 8 so do I just skip night dose and start regular rigimen in the morning? ## Hello, Jackie! How are you? Unless your doctor instructs otherwise, the FDA directs that you take the missed dose of a medication as soon as you remember, unless it's close to the time for the next dose, then you should skip it and just return to your regular dosing schedule. The typical side effects of these medications are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Is there...
1 REPLY UpdatedHas any that received a settlement from their claim been asked to send any of the money back to them? ## I have not even received any money yet, feel like I am getting the run around.... ## Even if you were asked to give any of the money back, would you? Especially after having gone through the "torment" associated with their inferior product? Not only that but I'd feel ashamed to hand back claim money to a multi-billion dollar industry who will probably use that money to create more faulty drugs that just continue the cycle of legal settlements. So in a sense, by choosing not to comply, you're essentially taking away from their power. A handful of legal claims probably won't dent their pocket books in the least bit, but the more patients loose faith in their product...
