since I was 14 I have had multiple chest surgeries including multiple pneumothoraxs,lung recessions, and removals due to AVM's and pulmonary embolisms in both of my lungs. I have been on coumadin since I was 20, but since recently I have not been able make my scheduled doctors visits for INR checks so I resorted to Pradaxa via recommendation from my pulmonary Doctor. I have been on it solid for about a week and a half, and honestly I have had bad stomach pains, inability to eat and mood swings because of it. Also increased bleeding when I cough up blood on occasion. I was told by my doctors this is normal, but it doesn't feel normal. Idk maybe just being a young guy paranoid. Pradaxa at first seems like a good substitute for warfarin ( coumadin ). It does not require regular blood tests and it actually works better. But there's a HUGE problem in the event you develop a bleeding problem whether it be medical such as a stomach ulcer or traumatic such as a traumatic brain injury. In either case it is important that your system be returned to normal clotting function as soon as possible. If you are taking coumadin this is virtually no problem. They merely need to infuse you with an effective antidote, PCC, which will rapidly return your clotting function back to normal. If you are taking Pradaxa, this can be a very big problem BECAUSE THERE IS NO ANTIDOTE FOR PRADAXA that an ER doctor can give you which will reverse the effects of Pradaxa. None. The only thi...

I had PE in October 2016 and was put on Pradaxa for DVT. They tried me on it for 6 months, checked my blood work and the doctor said I could go off it. I started to gain weight on it so at the first 5-10 pounds of going up, I cranked up the workouts and protein diet, got my macros in order and the hematologist put me back on it saying since I had it once, PE could happen again. I gained more weight over the course of a year (237 to 256), call it water, muscle, fat, my pant size went up. The doctors were like, "we don't know anything about weight gain as a side effect." Well, brush up doctors, even the FDA has this one logged. I'm asking to go off of it for 30 to 90 days, then recheck my blood work, so if there is a problem I will go back on. My mother is 85 years old and her family doctor is suggesting she switch to this drug from Warfin. Are hers chances of a stroke higher or recovering from a stroke with this drug. She no longer drives so getting her INR checked once a month sometimes can be a challenge. My 80 yr. old mother had a DVT and was put on Pradaxa 4 mo. ago. Her new Dr. states she's not very familiar with the drug but will "taper" her off it by going down to one pill a day over 3 days. I'm wondering if tapering is necessary or should she just completely stop? Thank you for any answers. ## Why does she wanted her to stop taking it? After having a DVT, it is very important to take steps to prevent a recurrence, and something that helps prevent clotting, such as Pradaxa is usually one of those steps. I am in A Fib and have been for the past 7 months. My Doctor has tried different procedures but so far nothing has worked. Ever since I have been on Pradaxa I have been very short of breath. Even in a sitting position I am short of breath. I did not have this problem before. I don't know it it's the A fib or the Pradaxa, My Doctor doesn't know what is causing the problem. They have done a lot of testing. Is there any assistance out there which will make Pradaxa affordable? I was able to get the savings card and use it at Walgreens for the 1st month but they say I am allowed to go one time outside my network with Kaiser. Kaiser has it for 211$ and other places have quoted upwards of 425$ for a month supply. That is pretty impossible to keep up with and still pay for the other 4 medications I am on. I hate that crap. I lost my hair and when I asked the nurse about it, she looked it up and yes that is a side effect. That is the worst thing I have ever had done to me. It should be taken off the market. You can hardly eat a meal without the lawyers on TV telling you to contact them if you have a problem with Pradaxa. ## Hello, Peg! How are you? Now that I am taking pradaxa, I can no longer take arthrotec for arthritis. Is there any other arthritis medication I can take? ## Hello, Denis! How are you? You should be able to take medications that don't cause blood thinning, which the Diclofenac in the Arthrotec does. (Diclofenac NDC code for more information 0054-4223.) I have been on for Pradaxa for just under a month. I had gained about 12 pounds from not being able to walk due to new A Fib. Now with Pradaxa, i'm able to walk a mile plus per day. I have been walking again for over 2 weeks. I have lost the 12 pounds and a couple of more. My husband took his Saturday and Sunday evening meds during dinner; pradaxa, metopropal tartrate, and flomax. Is this a huge problem? I'm more worried about the pradaxa. What have people done who need surgery (probably open surgery for gall bladder) and taking Pradaxa. I have fears about having a stroke if I stop taking it and I know that I will have to take it. Thoughts please? ## In most cases, they have you stop it for a few days, before surgery, then resume taking it, once any risk of bleeding has passed, but you should follow your doctor's instructions on what to do, according to the NIH. Been on Pradaxa fro three months, experiencing severe itching all over. If I stop taking Pradaxa how long will it take for itching to stop? ## Hello, Alexandra! How are you doing? Has there been any change? Many medications in this class can cause itching, due to the effect they have on your circulation and, if you switch medications, it may take a few weeks for the side effects to go away. 2 months ago my doctor prescribed Pradaxa because I have Dvt. I have other health issues therefore I take quite a few meds. After 1 month on Pradaxa, I said to the doc, there are 2 things a woman doesn't want to happen, 1-gain weight and 2- lose your hair. My genius doc said, hair loss is not a side effect. Told him I don't know where ha gets his info. I took it upon myself to stop Pradaxa. I have been off for 1 week & my hair keeps falling out. Hi guys, I have been on warfrin for 25 years and am 45 years old. Given warfrin early in life after several failed cardioversion's with afibb and been on beta blockers. Affib has not effected my life one bit other than the INR tests. I have been on Pradaxa for about 2 weeks and have noticed a lot harder and bigger erections. I was on Warfarin for 8 months then all of a sudden I was getting wild readings when my INR was checked. Had to go on heparin bridge shots which I had a really bad reaction to. My Dr. then put me on Pradaxa and I felt so much better, but after about 3 months I started losing gobs of hair. I am freaking out. Also have bouts of diarrhea. I forgot to take my 8 am dosage of pradaxa and cardizen pills and took them at 5 pm. when I remembered, should I skip the 8 pm dosage and continue on schedue in morning? Has any that received a settlement from their claim been asked to send any of the money back to them? ## I have not even received any money yet, feel like I am getting the run around.... ## Even if you were asked to give any of the money back, would you? Especially after having gone through the "torment" associated with their inferior product? Not only that but I'd feel ashamed to hand back claim money to a multi-billion dollar industry who will probably use that money to create more faulty drugs that just continue the cycle of legal settlements.
