Stopping Pradaxa
UpdatedMy 80 yr. old mother had a DVT and was put on Pradaxa 4 mo. ago. Her new Dr. states she's not very familiar with the drug but will "taper" her off it by going down to one pill a day over 3 days. I'm wondering if tapering is necessary or should she just completely stop?
Thank you for any answers.

Why does she wanted her to stop taking it?
After having a DVT, it is very important to take steps to prevent a recurrence, and something that helps prevent clotting, such as Pradaxa is usually one of those steps.
It may cause side effects, such as nausea, headache, dizziness, stomach irritation, and increased risk of bleeding.
Is there a plan to replace it with something else?
