Pharmacist Refusing To Fill My Script Of Suboxone. What Do I Do??? (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

I wet to my doc 7 days early because of running out early. I took my new script to pharmacy and said, this is early so I won't be using insurance. My doc said you can call him if necessary. Well no one wanted to. They filled two per day for three days. On the third day I asked to fill the rest on insurance for the next day. I was one day early. When I called the next morning to have my daily two filled the pharmacy manager said no we won't be filling it for another 5 days. Go to the ER for your withdrawals but don't come here because I won't give it to you. Has this happened to anyone else????

I think its appalling that a patient has to put up with pain and get treated like a drug addict too.
There is nothing more demoralising and shameful.
Everyone is entitled to be pain free and to be treated with respect when they need meds.

I agree ,its really made me feel like Im not worthy of proper care, that I am fully insured and pay full co pays and just a piece of trash on side of road,I have no negative history with pain meds or any other reason why Walreens or Walmart (one store) should have ever talked or treated and not refilled or refilled 2 weeks one one occasion except I dont walk in the door all bandaged up but if your were to see under my top are 2 major lumber surgeries removing lower spine (all hardware ) 34 procedures since then, ddeveloped Fibromyalgia, which makes all paun worse, then they took me off Suboxone ,been very sick and still had trouble getting those meds..it s horrible thing to think about the treatment Iv been given for things that are not my fault!!!!

You avoid running out early by taking them as prescribed.

Well ash i havent gotten to that part yet. But ive only been on subs for about 5 months and my dr wants to tapper me already. I feel like i just wana stay on them. Im stable like this. When i try to cut back myself, i get depressed, tired and just feel horrible. And what kind of dr would ask u to start a tapper just before the holidays? Cant this be like a new years resolution, first of the year deal or something? If hes gona make me tapper off i want to be successful but i dont think i will be doing it just now. Im gona tell him that at next visit on sat but i dont know what he will say. I said it last time and he said ok, we start tapper next visit. Come back in 3 weeks. Well that makes this sat, again just before xmas n all. Ill ask for 2 more weeks. I take 16mg a day now. 1 in am 1 in pm. He want me to go to 12 a day. Whew this is anxiety risingjust thinking about it. When u have anxiety as i do its worse although i think it could almost be created for anyone trying to do this. I notice most people are starting a tapper at lower dosage than me. That worries me too. Ahhhh! Goin crazy in my head with worry. Btw i have other names i have posted under depending on what device i am on. Just so u all know who i am. Im also one informed chic and questionable. And rob, i wasnt attacking dear. As ash said its hard to get a persons true meaning from typing, but no harm was meant. It was typed with a happy heart :-)

Thanks so much for the info ash. I will mention those things. He seems to be a very stern straightforward guy and in my opinion is intimidating. It also doesnt help that ive only been able to go see him with one or both of my kids and he doesnt seem to have patients with them either. He was the only doc i could find here to take my ins and not charge me the $300 intake fee. I only have to pay for the drug checks and my ins does the rest. Thats a blessing. But this time im gona go in and have my son watched my my dad, my husband works too much and can never take off or hes fired kinda deal. But ill do what u said, go in and just be honest. Start with something like, "i came to you for help cause i couldnt do it alone and thus far and at this point, these are my concerns....". I was prescribed the opiates i took but was dosed very high for 3 years, even went through a pregnancy with them. My son had no issues, came out fine as if nothing was ever taken, again a bblessing. I had followed doctors strict orders and got put on methadone part way through. But i am very scared of the monster i will be because i know my body still craves the medicine and until that craving goes away, im very scared and what u said makes sence that it takes like 2 years. I mean none of us became addicted or dependent over night so we will not reverse that quick either. Even tho i was prescribed for my discs being messed up in my back, 6 of them, i did start taking more than prescribed cause my doc wouldnt listen when i said i was becoming used to the meds. So i upped myself and ended up running out and we know the mess that causes. The last time i broke off opiates with methadone, i dosed down and stopped it all fine but still felt a void, so i turned to alcohol. I cant drink any now without falling asleep but i did have a problem for about 2 months with it and thats not even like me. Alcohol never did that to me before but i guess trying to fill the void its what happened. So after a while my back got bad again, had a new mri and pain mngt put me back on opiates. This time i chose to stop the opiates. I was tired of needing to up and running out so now i control the pain with heavy doses of tramadol. And the subs work for the other void so i just have been on such a rollercoaster, i just wana be stable and "normal" for a while. Be better for my kids, work on my marraige. I have councilors that come to my home for both my special needs child and my marraige. They arent allowed to talk to my doc or anything but they also believe this is not the time. I just gotta try n get all that out to the doc but i feel like he might cut me off at hello, so to speak. Ugh! But im gona try!!! Thanks again for ur help and research ash. And for listening. Ive never told anyone so much of my story before. We all have different ones but at the end we all connect on some level and i think thats awesome.

Terisita, You cannot mix other opiates with Suboxone. You will either get deathly sick with withdrawals or you won't feel anything at all. You and others must remember that the drug, SUBOXONE is meant to stop people from using opiates. Its primary purpose is not for pain or to make you feel high on. It was made for people who have been chronic relapsers and cannot stop using opiates.

Hello, I have had that same issue in a big chain pharmacy, I was told I would not be allowed to wait! I said I see other people waiting for their scripts ! And the pharmacist replied, go home I'll call you when you can pick it up. She also told me she would have to call my dr. For pre authorization even though I had been with this pharmacy for about a yr. then she said it could take hours or even days as they are very busy! What? But it's already 30 days ! I went home very upset! Then I decided to go back and politely ask for my script back! I went to a different pharmacy and had it filled no problem!

Kid threw it out? Really? Did the dog eat your homework? I'm sober since 2001, I take suboxone, I've never run out, or "lost" them because that's what I have to do. How scary is it that your children have access to your narcotics? If that's true shame on you. Trying hard to fly straight? Wah wah wah. I've got three kids and a wife and a career. Stop whining and looking for pity and "trying" do what needs to be done and suck it up

I agree, it's exactly the same as someone who is still using, leaving needles or drugs lying around for an inquisitive two year old to stumble upon. I live in Australia, I pick up from a clinic, the last thing they say to me as they hand me my month's supply is "please make sure you keep this stored safely away from children etc". By the way, just on the general theme of pharmacists treating addicts badly, I have found here that it's all about the way you present yourself, I get nothing but respect and friendly support from the people at my clinic, they know my kids, they know I work and provide clean urines, hence why I can pick up a month's worth at a time. My partner also picks up monthly and is treated with nothing but respect. If you act like a drug addict, chuck tantrums when they won't fill your script early and stuff like that, then of course they will treat you like a drug addict, because YOURE ACTING LIKE ONE!!!!

Hi bklnbella, Good for you. Allways be polite but don,t be afraid to speak up if your not being treated right.
As for the young ones working there, just ignore them.
Addiction may hit one of there loved one someday and then they,ll learn.

For those of us in terrible chronic pain we are treated like junkies and now any opiod based med is being withold where possible from patient. I say if I wanted to be a junkie I would go to any street corner it would be easier than simply refilling my script! So why would I even bother to go the doctor route then? Obviously because we are not junkies. Anything at any time is addictive.

It's bs that a pharmacist refuses to fill it... if the dr overwrites, the pharmacist MUST comply. To go to ER for withdrawal is ridiculous and violates the doctors plan for his patient and puts his patient at risk health wise. The pharmacist is NOT a dr. I let my dr call and then they can't say to not fill. But to treat people as if... Is disgusting ... It's none of their business, there is nothing shady about it. Again if the dr approves, it's his responsibility.. These knowledgeable pharmacists should go back to school, or be fired. In medicine it's NEVER ok to put a patients health on the line.

The whole idea is that people can have a normal life... Not abusing... There really isn't anything to abuse if you use the meds as prescribed, you don't feel high, or whatever...

I agree...it's just greed basically and old behaviour. I have been clean (on suboxone) for nearly 4 years now, every day I open my little packet and put that orange strip under my tongue, I thank God for the wonderful health system we have here in Australia. I was at the end of my rope when I walked into a suboxone clinic one day, within 24 hours they had me dosed, rang me twice daily to see how I was feeling, was the dose enough etc...I now pick up monthly scripts and my pharamacist is like an old friend. You do the right thing by your doctor and pharmacist, they will treat you the way you treat them, if you lie to them and treat them like you think they are stupid, well then, you only have yourself to blame. This person needs to understand that he is lucky to be getting what he needs off one doctor, trying to then get a little bit extra off another doctor is naive and greedy!

You MUST talk to your Dr. BEFORE the prescription runs out!! Don't wait till the last day and then scream about it. If they must, cut BACK on what you had left. The one guy this entire system of messages have come from is exhibiting over-usage AND drug seeking behavior. There are some pharmacies that could have kept the prescription, and called the Dr. if they feel drug seeking behavior is exhibited. Course it'd be hard to do seeing as the Dr. wrote the script himself...less it was a refill. Tennessee's gotten RIDICULOUS over this sorta s***. If a Dr. writes the scrip, and the patient says he's run out or the script has been changed....the Pharmacist should just fill it and keep their opinions to themselves...or that's MY opinion...especially with the way people take or steal people's drugs and such now days.

No, you are reading it wrong! I have a hard time filling oxycodone and dilaudid at the local chain pharmacy's. They do treat you like a street thug! I'm not talking about filling early either...I'm talking the day I was released from the hospital with a neck brace and hospital tag on my wrist?

Tired of hearing ahhh, we're out, but will have some next Tuesday....or well, we only have 70 of your 180 script...ok can I get the remaining 110 next week. No, you'll need another Rx from your doctor. It is ridiculous!! They get you hooked, collect as much $$ and then kick you to the curb!

I consider myself lucky!! I've been through @ 7 surgeries in the past 15 years and I always get off the meds ASAP. I've been on for 2-3 years & get off for a couple years...round & round we go???

Cannabis does help me with minor pain management - a great fill-in for when I stop using opiates.....good luck all....I know it's a challenge every day!!

Yes been to ER for Pain. Meds I must take having a pain pump just taken out of my body. I got no warnings. Just a bunch dishonesty and stories that did not make sense and when I questioned anything I got rudeness and was dismissed from the store. Now to date I have never been rude or disrespectful..but boy have these Pharmacies employees and most Pharmacists when questioned have treated me poorly in public. Would have been nice to be warned make arrangements for pets and I'm a care giver for my mother now because lack of family ect.Quite frankly I just got out after 60 days with MRSA from pain pump removal operation fighting for my life. I dont want to go back. Same response "go to the ER" and this would happen on the weekend .Uhgg..!.The day before they would say come back tomorrow. ..like its all okay and then tomorrow would be Saturday knowing can't get much done and I would get caught with the we don't have any of your prescriptions meaning both of them in stock and don't know when. You can't see your Doctor. ..so here goes one game " Go to the ER " Guess how the ER treats you there? It's not good at all and the Doctor there at ER has said to me on one visit..".Sure they told you to come here" In a very sarcastic way...Blew my mind since I was new to all of this game playing with lives and these Medical professionals seem to think it's funny, well withdrawals are NOT funny

I have done that. Just last week I was 6 days early so I paid cash for the 6 days. They had to call my doctor and he told them it was ok. On the 5th day I called to get them filled and the store filled them. CVS and walmart would have never did that.
