Pain Medication Cut Downs (Top voted first)

Updated

Is it just me or is all the pain management docs trying to cut everyone down or back!!?? When I went to my last visit the doc had the nerve to ask me if I still needed my Oxymorphone 20mg ER (56). I was like YEAH, what do you think?! This is after they closed down for 3 months and I had to switch to Subutex to not get sick. And I got dropped from the 30mg oxymorphone. And by the way the 20'mgs are garbage. Then my doc asked me to get an MRI on my lower back, which I did the month prior. It just goes to show what a dumb ass he is and how they're so not in tune to what is going on! All they want to do is lower and lower your meds. Has anyone else had their doc try and taper them down or try and lower your stuff? By the way, I'm in south FL.

Yes,I live on the east coast and there isn’t one person I know that’s on pain management that hasn’t been cut down atleast by half OR if they have been getting it from their primary care doctor they are being referred to a pain management center. They are really cracking down and they have no idea what they are doing to patients. It’s a sad world when even terminal patients are being cut back and even denied meds for pain relief.

Keep in mind these three related business expressions:

1. Market forces
2. Extortion
3. Profit Center

Given my degenerative condition, you don't "pass go" without submitting to a scan! Of course one must first qualify contingent upon the provisions of ones insurance policy. Qualification does not exonerate from the omnipresent "copayment."

In my case, I've had four scans within the last few years. (As if a degenerative condition will reverse course), Each and every scan supported the one before. This is where the terms "extortion and profit center" apply!!!

To add to the BS, I've been under pressure to undergo invasive procedures involving questionable chemistries with questionable diluents, and mystery preservatives. As a former medical professional, I respectfully submit that it behooves us all to study up on the adverse effects of invasive procedures. Consider if you will things like the inflammation of the meninges of the brain and spinal cord, lethargic encephalitis, or toxic shock.

While I could correspond on this site indefinitely, I must return to my responsibility as the family patriarch, AS BEST THE REGULATORY POLICE WILL ALLOW!!!

Pharmacology has an answer to my degenerative disc disease and associated compressions fractures! The irony is that someones political agenda has superseded my need to pain relief!

Yes, and I'm in SC. Listen, it is all I can do to keep 50 mg of tramadol. The pain doc put me on Lyrica after two steroid epidurals didn't last. Lyrica is useless and I'm eating like a pig and gaining weight. I am so angry and frustrated I could scream because of the pain in my back. I am a 77-year-old woman with COPD and back pain. Aspirin has destroyed my stomach. The latest MRI was just last week. How the hell did the gov't take over dictating what someone like me could take? I get it about young addicts, of course, but even animals are treated better than we are.

I was just at pm. To go over the results of neck MRI ,, I was told that I needed to make an appointment with the surgeon, and then for the pain was told to use something called Arnica cream !!! I was also asked if I wanted to be cut back from the 7.5 opioid,, REALLY, I honestly am frightened to get surgery on my three bulging discs that are pinching on my spinal cord so bad ,,, every single day is a day that includes around the clock ice packs to ease the pain ,,,why is there a war on chronic pain patients,, why are they making us suffer for a problem that we didn’t cause , it’s really unbelievable that if I was an addict I could get drugs from legal clinics to ease the suffering and withdrawal,,, but legitimate chronic pain,,, get Psyhc therapy and rub ointment on it !!!!! Unreal

Yes it's the new NAZI in charge of the CDC, he is making everyone cut back and wants to get rid of all opiates. WTF, really because 22,000 people die a year on prescription drugs. Which is mostly acute pain patients, not chronic pain patients like us. It's an epidemic, a health hazard, yet it's ok for people to smoke cigarettes for no reason, have 250,000 of them die a year from log cancer, but that's ok... That's because they make billions off it in taxes and trillions in cancer treatment.

This country has gone insane. He wants you to start off with over the counter pain meds which they don't tell the public kills 2x as many people as prescription pain medication. Than try Tramadol? Really? Than try certain procedures which insurance company will not pay for, they could force them but nope.

He is going against 70 years of research and studies. There are major shortages of pain medication in the hospitals. Now surgeons are speaking out and other groups. Too late. Now since new guidelines went into affect heroin use has increased 500% and overdoses 300%. Good job, this war on drugs since 1968 is a joke. The DEA FDA are so corrupt it's sickening. The DEA are the biggest drug dealers in the world according to what Snowden showed us.

Then of course the communist controlled papers and TV's station lie about how many people are dying. Then all people on pain meds become dependent on it? Yeah - so do people on heart meds, diabetic medication, etc ... so what? But this happened because the people on the left voted in Obama and corrupt senators and congressman who then appointed the CDC.

It's like they want people to be in pain so you turn to harder drugs, yet pot, which is a gateway drug they make legal which only proves my point. I have a lot of medical issues. I was on Fentanyl 125 every 2 days, because we all know 3 day patches only work 2 days. 12 hour patches work only 8 to 6 hours. Plus I was on 4 x 30 mg plus Soma for break through pain for a very bad back. Oh, but soma is addicting? B - You just take a dose to go to sleep. It's the best muscle relaxer out there and they know it. The others are crap. Then 3 xanax per day for several panic anxiety attacks, and now after pushing xanax for 20 years you can't take it with pain meds? WTF, come on. Now almost every country has stopped making xanax. They get everyone hooked then take it away.

No, my pain problem can not be taken care of by surgery. My back is deformed among other things and I can't get surgery. 2 hip replacements failed, but they can't operate again until my leg bone breaks. Unbelievable.

Now I am on 75 fentanyl, and 3 x 5 mg oxymorphone which don't work for anything. So now I am house bound, most people on SSDI disability only get $1200 dollars a month and by the time we get to the meds we can't afford other therapies. Again thanks Democrats. The head of the CDC was a Nazi SS in WW2, welcome to the NWO . And he says even more reductions coming next year, closing more plants down, so less pain medications.

My pain doctor (bless her soul) told me about the cut back months ago.
Some of you remember that Jan 1st 2018 our opioids were cut to 120 ME. That 120 is Morphine Equivalent. Celebrate that our ME on Jan. 1st 2019 wili have to go down to 90 ME.

These are NOT our doctors. These are from Medicare and every insurer will follow suit.

With my old meds, I worked with these scripts for 20 years. Now I will be able to get out of bed to make toast then into my chair until bedtime.

I would like to get in touch with someone has some extra (haha) money to do something that MAY get our side heard a little more.

Yes, the insurance company stopped covering my Diclofinic for headaches. It’s the only medication in 30 years that has worked. I have spent 20,000 in 30 years in various tests to determine why I get them. Tried every available drug New and old.
And Diclofinic is not an opioid.

Trump is spewing his opinion as fact, the so called opioid epidemic is not any more of an epidemic than it is a sound byte. He's comparing the opioid epidemic with Crack cocaine epidemic, and nothing could be further than the truth. Crack, like Meth, are made in criminal labs set up mostly in abandoned properties, their own homes really either can be set up anywhere, even right next door. OPIOIDS ARE NOT. You have to start with a supply of opium poppies, which are not grown in this part of the world. This so called epidemic is only possible if you have a Doctor feelgood prescribing and supplying them at the same time, which here in Florida, is very possible. We have MD's here with their own pharmacies across the street from their offices, we see it every day with lines of people forming at both locations that at times will stretch around the corner on the sidewalks, yet nothing is done.

GOOGLE DEA/WALGREEN BUST 2013 and you will see what is REALLY GOING ON. AS A FORMER PAIN SPECIALIST turned patient (due to Florida's use of AGENT ORANGE [2,4D and 2,4D,T-5] on it's commercial vegetable farms across the state)... Since i was exposed in 1990-93 I was forced to quit my career as a trucker and took advantage of Florida's return to work programs for injured people. Thankfully i had most of my credits that were able to put together with 2 more years of college to achieve it. But back to the so called epidemic - it turns out Walgreen's was not the only pharmacy that was guilty of selling opioids to doctors off the books (and for cash). When they got caught all the other big pharmacies immediately stopped taking new pain patients unless you had a script filled their in the last 6 weeks. This is out of the mouths of the pharmacist themselves who I had as friends since going through this nightmare of being poisoned from touching farm plastic during our 3 year hauling contract. The plastic is laid over a pre-made mound of earth that may stretch for hundreds of feet, then a following machine sprays a layer of 2,4D (AGENT ORANGE). Then lastly, a final machine straddles the rows and a mechanical arm inserts the vegetable sprout through the plastic at about 8 inch intervals and after the grow cycle is done the migrant workers roll the plastic up into 10-15 foot high rolls, then we put them in our dump trucks to haul to the burner. Except that's after sitting in the FL sun. The plastic is weakened by UV rays and the wind tears it to shreds driving down the highway, so we as drivers would get the tickets against our CDL's (commercial drivers license), so we were forced to get in the dump beds with this stuff, (we were told the odor was not harmful to us due to the UV rays converting the chemical (they never told us what it was).

3 years later, we lost one of the 4 drivers. He died in his sleep from cause unknown at that time. I got sick, and started having back pain issues, then i had to replace a knee, now i have to replace the other knee, then my hands, i had to put artificial joints to try and keep working. Finally I'd had enough and went to MAYO CLINIC for a week of testing that took my life savings, since MAYO CLINIC doesn't accept insurance (because they refuse to pay for tests looking for illnesses that they will have to pay for when found, so they confused the fact until MAYO said no more). It messed me up so bad that I fractured my spine stepping of a curb and lost every disc in my spine through desiccation. And finally a nuclear antibody study showed the same results as soldiers who were exposed to agent orange with the exception that my exposure was 300 times that of the Vietnam era soldiers due to the fact each load we had to get in and weigh down the plastic with rocks, sod, anything we could find. The end of the story is that this chemical changed the brain chemistry making me opioid resistant and forcing huge doses to control the pain of my crumbling body, like 20 x 10 milligram tabs of Methadone 3 times a day. That is 200 mg X's 3 every 8 hours. That dose would kill any human with out the resistance and that dose for 10 years started the friendship of pharmacists who were dumbfounded that a human could stand that dose without harm. And thankfully the resistance helped me out in this regard.

Due to the size of each months script i had to wait up to a week at times for the store to have that many in stock, so during the last 20 years it happened too many times to count and if i wasn't resistant i would be going through opioid withdrawals so often it would probably kill me with out the resistance (which took 2 years of pain med trials before we tried methadone, and poof, it was as if a pain switch was turned off). Then Walgreens got busted all other pharmacies went into CYA mode, and Walgreens made a deal with the devil that affected every single PAIN CLIENT OF THEIRS. BESIDES THE 80 MILLION DOLLAR FINE, THEY MADE A DEAL WITH DEA to wean their customer base down through what they referred to as the GOOD FAITH policy. They stopped their name brand opioid supplier and made a deal with a recently formed pharmacy in INDIA, CALLED ASCEND.

After all the 20+ years of waiting 5-7 days without a single dose and no withdrawal, 10 days on ASCEND and here comes the withdrawals. In my opinion there was no active ingredient in the ASCEND garbage and a quick look on the net showed i wasn't alone... Everyone who was forced onto this crap had the same problem. Zero pain relief and then the withdrawals, which could easily kill seniors, though their is no opium in METHADONE (it has an artificial ingredient that tickles the same brain receptors as opium). Methadone was an invention of the Nazis during WWII. It was created to allow injured Nazi soldiers to continue fighting without the side affects that Morphine gives, which is why it is still used today to help addicts get off the hard stuff and heroin without the hell that is withdrawal.

Ao this opioid epidemic can only be supported by DOCTORS SELLING TO PATIENTS OR SOMEONE STEALING A PAIN PATIENT'S PRESCRIPTION. OPIOIDS ARE NOT A DRUG YOU CAN MAKE AT HOME FROM STORE BOUGHT INGREDIENTS. STEALING SOMEONES SCRIPT OR HAVING A DOCTOR SUPPLY YOU IS THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN HIT THE STREET, SO THERE IS YOUR FIX. REGULATE PAIN MEDS SO THAT ONLY PHARMACIES CAN SUPPLY IT, NOT THE DOCTORS THEMSELVES, AND PUT IN PLACE A CHECK AND BALANCE SYSTEM TO KEEP THEM FROM DOING WHAT WALGREENS GOT CAUGHT FOR (AND THE OTHERS WERE DOING THE SAME). BUT THEY SHUT IT DOWN THE MINUTE NEWS OF WALGREENS BUST HIT THE AIRWAVES, THE GOOD FAITH POLICY THAT WAS PART OF THE DEA DEAL WAS TO LESSEN THEIR CUSTOMER BASE WHO WERE PAIN PATIENTS LONG TERM, SUCH AS MYSELF. The policy (what a bad joke to call it this) was to tell the patient that their medication had not been included in the weeks medical deliveries, same next week etc, etc, until the customer is now going into withdrawals and forced to find a new pharmacy (which ironically was not taking new pain patients).

BECAUSE WALGREENS GOT CAUGHT, many of Walgreens pharmacist quit Walgreens because of the underhanded way they were treating customers who did nothing wrong except use Walgreens as their pharmacy, leaving us who depend on these meds to have a semblance of a life with nowhere to go. So YES TRUMPS "EPIDEMIC" is bulls*** and can be easily fixed with some oversight of those who supply it, NOT PUTTING IT ON THE BACKS OF THOSE WHO ARE FORCED TO TAKE IT OR LOOK AT SELF EUTHANASIA A.K.A. SUICIDE as the only option as in Florida. Our extremely young FL Attorney general (a woman who has zero medical experience who upon hearing Sir Liealots proclamation of an "EPIDEMIC", she is a trump fan sadly). Took it upon herself to make it near impossible for a pain patient to find a new pharmacy, even when it was the pharmacy that was in trouble not the people who need it. She started what is now called pharmacy shopping as a drug seeking behavior, which will if you get the label put on your information jacket, kill your ability to shop for a new supplier when yours (a well known corporation like Wagreens started the whole issue that got into trumps mouth and like everything else that come OUT of trumps mouth is 100% false), and now compounds the whole catch 22 mess because our village idiot POTUS is clueless that his falsehoods are contributing to the so called epidemic of death. BECAUSE HE OPENED HIS FAT MOUTH ON A SUBJECT HE KNOWS ONLY WHAT SEAN HANNITY TOLD HIM, WHO WE ALL KNOW IS AN EXPERT ON EVERY SUBJECT KNOWN TO MAN, WHICH GAVE THE NETWORK THEIR NOM DE PLUME OF "FAUX NEWS" because it is all baseless in facts...something that FAUX NEWS does well,...almost as well as SIR Liealot himself.

Re: MJJJ (# 69) Expand Referenced Message

Yes i tried several brands, but they were off the Internet and were free trials. Medical Marijuana was finally made legal here, but no one has yet to see any (just the commercial CBD which contains zero THC, the ingredient that helps pain in cancer patients). And if you do sign up for it in Florida, you are forced to surrender your firearms permit (because we all know how homicidal one gets after smoking pot). The dumb asses still use J. Edgar Hoovers description of how pot turns the populace into killing zombies. They are also talking of having to relinquish your drivers license for the same reason if you sign up for medical Marijuana. Florida is a good ole boy network where the sheriffs have incredible power over what laws are passed here. For example, the first time medical marijuana was on the ballot, two hours into the vote count the pot initiative already had 58% of the 60% needed to make it legal. The following 15 hours of vote counting and that 58% never changed, not even by a single point, which is almost mathematically impossible. And guess who had that initiative's vote count stopped? Yep, the Florida Sheriffs assoc. is what we hear through the grapevine (which in reality is former friends from school who now as adults work for FL government).

You must understand, the same assoc. got our Medicare thief Governor (Rick Scott) to bring in prisons for profit to our once lovely paradise (NOW JUST A GIANT PARKING LOT FOR TOURIST TRAPS). The Sheriffs here will confiscate the vehicle you are in if they find a single pot cigarette in the vehicle and will then use that find to get a probable cause warrant to search your residence, and god forbid they find anything, because the sheriffs will then apply to the court (more good ole boys) to confiscate the property, "even rentals" costing the owners thousands in legal fees to keep their property. Welcome to the new police state called Florida where facts don't matter only the word of the sheriffs deputy is what the courts make their decisions from. The poor court supplied attorney assigned to your case won't stand and object to illegal questions in court, because they know they have no power and are just there because the law says they must be. By making these things legal even with the newly gained knowledge of how much help it can be, by legalizing it cuts off the sheriffs department largest supply of money from sheriffs auctions of drug confiscations (the single joint). Which I would be all for if it was heroin, cocaine etc, but pot... give me a break. It is just legal theft. Welcome to Florida.

Rawdog - sorry for your problem. I live in Florida too, but I have an understanding Pain Mgt Dr. I live in The Villages, Florida (senior community) and our Dr.'s follow the new laws regarding pain meds. 30 or 60 pills per month only (whatever your script is) and must come in every month and have your pills counted!!! You are required to come in 7 days before you run out and they count to see if you have 7 days left!!!! THE DRUG ADDICTS OUT THERE DID THIS TO US LEGITIMATE PAIN PATIENTS.

I follow the rules, pee in the cup, and come back every 30 days. It's a big pain in the a__, but when you're in pain, you'll do whatever it takes and avoid withdrawal. I was switched to another pain med - NUCYNTA (did not work for my pain) then MORPHABOND (Worked, but too expensive) - I'm back to my generic Oxymorphone 15 mg 2X a day. It works well for my pain, but I get sleepy during the day. I can put up with that - my back pain & sciatica are bad. I would google pain management in your area and look at their websites. Sorry for your Florida BS!!!

Rawdog, I feel your pain. Without going into a lot of background into my situation, I faced the same problem at my pain clinic. My doctor cut me down from 5 Oxycodone 10 mg a day to 4 a day. He knows I have permanent damage and there isn't any type of surgery that can fix it. I asked him why he was cutting me down and his reply was "we have to show a breakthrough". I've been on pain pills now for over 20 yrs ad you'd think by now they would of come up with a solution. He knows there’s nothing that can be done, so when I said we have no breakthrough he said well it’s "the powers to be" that are making these decisions. It’s all political he said. I have no idea how to get it across to the "powers that be". Don't know if I helped but wanted to get out my experience out.

Rawdog, you are right, pain docs are trying to cut us down on our pain meds. Mine asked me if I am overmedicated the last two times I have seen him. I was thinking the same thing you are. I am sure pain specialists have gotten the word from the Govt to try and wean us down or off our meds. Also, my pain specialist told me to bring in any left over pain meds to his office. I wondered why he would think I have any pain meds left over? I thought it very odd. I am certain you are right in thinking all pain specialists have been given orders from the U.S. Govt. to try and cut down our doses on our pain medications, if not wean us completely off of them.

I know exactly how you are feeling. I take 25 zopiclone sleeping pills a night for over 26 years due to a sleep problem. This has been going on for 26 years they’ve paid for the med. This year a red flag went up for the first time. I will die with out this med.

This is happening in Canada it looks like the govt has turned into doctors overnight. Drs. Here have been limited to what they can prescribe. People aren’t getting what they need and are committing suicide.

I say any jerk who puts fentanyl in a needle is taking their chances and I have no empathy for that because those tweakers.

We can’t get what we need. I will die without this med. Canada is as bad if not worse then the US.

Rawdog, I'm a 77 year old grandmother in South Carolina, with end stage COPD (which means I have less than 30% of my lung function as compared to other women my age and height). My back pain had caused my whole body to decondition to the point that I gave up hope and went to bed to die. They won't let me have more than 4 per day 50mg tramadol, Lyrica, and OTC's such as aspirin, which are destroying my stomach and intestines. Somehow Jesus Christ awakened the life force and I signed up to do pulmonary rehab online. Best thing I ever did for my breathing. I'm telling you this in case you know anyone who might need this. Let me know and I will give you the info. But back to my back. When I take that first step out of bed every morning I cry out to God for help. I scream from the pain. When I sit on the toilet I rub on a cream that helps a little, and then make it to the kitchen holding on all the way, to get a bite to eat along with my tramadol and lyrica, which also helps a little. My questions for my doctor and the government are: Are you trying to get me to commit suicide? Has anyone checked the increase in suicide since they took away the pain meds? What difference could it possibly make to anyone else if I become dependent on pills as long as they permit me to live out my remaining days in relative comfort so I can participate in life as much as my breathing permits? I am asking the pain doc, the GP, and the pulmonary doc. They can see from my MRI why I need meds. Our animals are given pain relief without question (thank God!) but we humans are left to suffer. If they cared they would dispense case-by-case instead of lumping white-haired grannies like me into the same pile as street junkies. I hope to start a campaign to change things.

All the time they lower my dose, then I'm in so much pain they have go back up. I'm sick of this s***. Then the pills you get ain't worth a s*** because they're making the pills weaker and weaker.

What do Democrats have to do with cutting back your pain medication? Lol almost all the politicians are corrupt especially the Republicans who would like to cut the ssdi you rely on... I want the government out of our doctor's offices. They cut out the pills and guess what people switch to... heroin or live in pain. The answer wasn't to stop doctors from prescribing pain meds and stop the Pharmaceutical companies from producing quality pain meds. They should have just focused more on education and offering treatments like Suboxone to people who wanted it. This is nuts what's going on now! My wife never abused meds she only gets pain meds after surgery or a kidney stone attack. She used to get sent home with 30 Percocet or Vicodin with maybe 1 refill. The last time she had surgery they sent her home with 8 Vicodin! Not to mention the generic meds have gotten so awful the past 5 or 6 years it's like most don't even work at ALL!

I've seen the list somewhere. It's been a while but effectively there's an upper limit that they don't want anyone to go over but most of us are already over. The theory is if less medication is prescribed there will be less on the streets. Yes and there will be less for the people that need it but this is their grand plan to save all the street junkies from themselves.

Rawdog, how are you? How are things in FL after Dorian, the b**ch? I want to keep your thread going, so who else is on here that's having problems with their meds? Please share and vent your frustrations, cause that's all we can do here, right? And then we gotta laugh because if we don't then we shut down, and then we go dark. Let's not allow that to happen, ok?

Now that I've been forced to acquiesce to the whims of faceless regulatory bureaucrats and assume my new role as a government dole recipient, I dwell less on issues of petrochemical engineering, and more on issues related to my new role as grocery procurement manager!
The change has afforded my opportunity to ponder and observe.

I can't help but notice the downtrodden, and weather beaten appearance of one particular grocery store employee as he extends his nicotine stained fingers into a shirt pocket where he will extract his drug delivery system we commonly refer to as a "cigarette."

In my assessment, this guy looks like a zombie!

All at once it dawns on me! This guy is in fact killing himself, and his drug of choice is readily available, 24 hours a day, any day of the week, at any street corner convenience store!! He never ever has to provide a prescription! He never ever has to pee in a cup!! As my cerebral functions kick in, it occurs to me that my government is sanctioning this product, and realizing a tax windfall IN THE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS!

I think everyone knows where I am going with this. While my tax dollars support a product of known toxicity, an established pharmacology that I have depended on for 20+ years has become CRIMINALIZED!!!!!

WHERE IS THE JUSTICE??
