A little over 2 weeks ago my long term episodic heartburn become more persistent, so I purchased a 14 day regimen of generic Omeprazole. Its effect was dramatic; I had no symptoms for the entire period. When the 14 days were over I stopped per the directions. The heartburn came back almost immediately, and worse than before, so I had to start taking it again, and again it's working. How can I stop? Lansoprazole is available over the counter and is in the same family of medications, there are even generic/store brands of it, so it's fairly inexpensive. My same problem highlighted on declofenac forum. some seem to suffer stomach upsets from Ameprazole. the very symptom I'm using it to avoid. Looking at a list of potential side effects, I am seeing fever; hoarseness; swelling of the face, tongue, lips, throat, etc; among a variety of other possible symptoms. how do you treat it? I know it's treatable with antibiotics and antacids like omeprazole, but it didn't work for me. ## Hello, Glenn! How are you? How do you know it didn't work? Have you actually been tested for it, again, or are you just still feeling symptoms? It is highly possible that the bacteria was eradicated and you just need a longer course of an antacid to let things heal. And do you watch what you eat, so you stay away from anything spicy or acidic? Do you avoid alcohol?

I've taken Omeprazole from both Dr. Reddy's and Sandoz. Dr. Reddy's works much better for me. If it's the difference in inactive ingredients used, then, in my experience that makes a big difference. ## Inactive ingredients do usually make a significant difference in the overall efficacy of these medications. Certain binders/fillers which may or may not be present in each brand, are detrimental to how the drug is metabolized and used by your body. Due to the sensitive nature of the matter, I'm frustratingly surprised that doctor's and pharmacists don't take any time out to mention this to their patients after giving them a completely different script without any prior consent. I was taking omeprazole that was a 2-toned green color marked "mylan 6150; my prescription was refilled with a pink end marked APO on one end and 020 on the other end. Why was it changed? ## Hello, From what I can gather, the pill you have been given is simply a delayed release version of Omeprazole 20mg. Delayed release basically means that the medication stays in your system longer. I can't tell you why you were switched to this version however, so I would definitely discuss that with your doctor if it concerns you. My mother was taking Omeprazole for about a year for her GERD, and she started to develop a severe side effect which is generally unreported - extreme depression. Needless to say I urged her to stop that medication and take a hard look at some natural supplements for her diet.
