It is used to treat excess stomach acid that can cause conditions, such as heartburn, GERD, gastritis, and ulcers. How long has this been going on? Are you on any other medications? I have just been prescribed Omeprazole for suspected acid reflux. As I am still breathless from previous bronchitis, can I still take Salamol (blue) and Qvar (Beclometasone Dipropionate? [my original email address has no capital P at the end of it - the address below is the correct one!] ## Hi Nemo, The two medications Salamol and Qvar, (which are often combined in clinical practice), may result in additive hypokalemic effects. Hypokalemia is a lower-than-normal amount of potassium in the blood. Symptoms: A small drop in potassium usually doesn't cause symptoms. However, a big drop in the level can be life threatening. "Other than that", my research shows that there are no drug interactions found between the active ingredients in Omeprazole, Salamol, and Qvar, I hope this in...

I am a 56 year old woman that was giving omeprozole for acid reflux and gerd. It really did help. I thought it was the best thing ever until here 1 1/2 years later, the Dr was sending me to a heart specialist because my heart rate has climbed so high as well as my blood pressure. I've also had incontinence this year that has made my life miserable. Little did I know until reading more about the omeprazole that all of these problems had come from taking it. I stopped the omeprazole and with in days my heart rate begin to come down, from 123 beats per minute to 87 bpm. My blood pressure also dropped into a normal range, and the best thing is no more incontinence. I didn't realize this medication was causing all of this mess. My Dr. tried to say it wasn't the omeprazole, but th...
Hi. I'm 26 years old and for 7 months have been seeing my doctor for a stomach ulcer. I took Nexium pills to treat it for a few months which worked well for the most part. I hadn't had symptoms for 2 months about until I began experiencing pains and burning once again, this time a little worse. Last week, I visited my doctor an he prescribed me omeprozale to try out. I only took it for 4 days. Today is the 5th day which I did NOT take the pill this morning because the past 4 days I was experiencing side effects that I only now saw were symptoms from taking omeprazole. I've experienced (and still am in some ways): upset stomachs with slight diarrhea. Nothing major. Loss of appetite, lost 4 lbs. nausea in mornings and when I had tried to eat, body trembling for two days in and...
Can ic omeprazole cause one's blood pressure to increase dramatically? ## Omeprazole is a Proton Pump Inhibitor, used to help reduce the amount of acid your stomach produces to treat conditions such as heartburn and GERD. That said, there is nothing listed about it doing this. It is always a possiblity, though, medications do affect everyone differently, but there is no way to say for sure. Have you asked your doctor about it? ## Theoretically, it definitely could. You see, nitric oxide is a substance that the body creates and that regulates blood pressure. It can only be created in the presence of an acidic stomach. Reducing acid in the stomach definitely decreases nitric oxide production and, therefore, can increase blood pressure. See this page to see how reducing acid in the sto...
What to do when a 60 year old male takes an APO 020 (20mg) not prescribed to him? He has been taking 2-3 pills at least once a day for 3-4 days. His symptoms are dry cough, fever, earaches, fatigue, vomiting, black stuff and leg cramps. ## Call poison control or his doctor ASAP. APO 020 Omeprazole is not one of those common "recreational" drugs so he should not get in trouble for it, and they can tell you the appropriate course of treatment. As far as treating GERD (I assume that's what he is taking it for??), he may also wish to consider Apple Cider Vinegar supplementation in the future as long as his doctor says it's okay. My mom was able to get herself off the Omeprazole permanently by incorporating ACV into her diet. Hope this helps and best wishes!
Help, I've been feeling faint, nauseous and dizzy for 2 years now. I can't exercise without feeling like I will black out and I must take several glucose tablets per day or I'm on the floor with flu-like symptoms. Something has gone really wrong with my health and I need help. Should I stop taking omeprazole? Am I experiencing side effects? ## Hello, Bri! How are you? The FDA does report hypoglycemia as being a possible side effect of this medication. You may also experience stomach pain, depression, flatulence and dry skin. You may need to stop taking it, or switch to a different medication, but only your doctor can help you decide what's right for you. Is there anything else I can help with?
I've been taking this tablet for 2 mnths. Before this I was on Nexium. The last week I feel nauseus, my stomach is burning and the last 2 days I've got terrible headaches. Is this from the medication or is my ulcer just not getting better? ## Hello, Natascha! How are you? It's hard to say, it could be either option. The medication can cause nausea, dizziness, stomach pain and flatulence as side effects, according to the U.S. FDA. However, has anything else changed recently? Such as your eating or drinking habits? Are you on any other medications? Have you informed your doctor? ## Hi Verwon. Nothing has changed in my eating habits, I've actually become more concious to what I eat because of the ulcer. I am on a diet pill 'The Secret" but I've been taking it fo...
Re. person with hair loss - I have been on propranalol and omeprazole for a few weeks now and prior to these drugs have suffered hair loss for a few years so can't blame the new drugs. Have taken levothyroxine and atvorstatin for years and wonder if one or both these could be the culprit. I suppose no drugs are without side effects. ## That is correct, all drugs carry the risk of causing side effects, it's just the nature of what happens, when we add a chemical to the body to try to correct a problem. Of the ones you've list, both the Propranolol and the Levothyroxine can cause hair loss, as reported by the U.S. FDA. Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and increased urination. Is there anything else I can help with?
Can I drink Omeprazole in the afternoon instead of the morning? ## Hello, Mari! How are you? Yes, as long as your doctor approves, the time of day doesn't really matter. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain and flatulence. Is there anything else I can help with?
Metoprolol succinate/ omeprazole Together, side affects ## Hello, Sammy! How are you? I didn't find any problems or interactions listed between these medications, but it's always best to double check to be sure. Omeprazole may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, flatulence and stomach pain, as reported by the FDA. Metoprolol may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hair loss. Is there anything else I can help with?
Purple capsule g231. 6 idk what more you need ## Hello, Jason! How are you? Nope, nothing else needed, the description, color and markings are perfect! :-) This capsule is manufactured by Glenmark Generics and they list it as containing 20mgs of Omeprazole in a delayed release formulation. This is a proton pump inhibitor that's used to reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach to help treat or prevent conditions, such as GERD, heartburn, ulcers and gastritis. The FDA lists it's typical side effects as possibly including nausea, flatulence and stomach pain. Is there anything else I can help with?
I was prescribed Omeprazole dr, 20 mg. my friend takes the same Omeprazole 20 mg, but, it's not dr. she wants to give me what she has left being she was taken off this med. Can I take hers, expir. date is still valid. thank you ## The difference is that the DR stands for delayed release, which means that when you take it, it is designed to slowly release in your body over a period of time. The regular formulation would be released into your body, all at once. This means that it may not work as well for you, since you have been on one that lasts several hours, which may better treat your condition. Have you tried consulting a doctor or pharmacist? It isn't that there would be harm to you, since it's the same substance, but it just doesn't work the same. Are there any othe...
