Omeprazole Vs Pantoprazole
Updatedadvantages of omeprazole over pantoprazole

There really is no benefit to using one over the other, they both work the same and are in the same class of medications, proton pump inhibitors.
However, just like any other medication, one may work better for someone than a different one does. There is really no explanation for why this happens, but it does.
Has your doctor recommended one of them?

Actually Pantoprazole is becoming more prescribed and the tendency is to make it more prescribed than Omeprazole. The effect of both proton pump inhibitors is similar, but Pantroprazole is more safe when combined with (some) other drugs, since it has a lower affinity for the cit. P450 than Omeprazole, an enzyme responsible for the metabolism of many drugs.

The answer to your question is a resounding YES! I had this exact problem when I went in for my current job. I'm drug and alcohol free and it came as a major surprise to me when I was told I failed. It took some jumping through hoops with my employer but was well worth the effort with the job result. Due to certain Drug lab test procedures Omeprazole will produce a false positive. Good luck and have your paperwork and documentation to prove your point on the spot. In this job market something like this can cost you a chance at a job....or lose you a current one. All the best.
I've been taking Prilosec/Omeprazole Dr for years and it's great, it works well. But a couple of years ago I woke up in the night out of a dead sleep with severe chest pains with it going into my back and neck. Of coarse I thought of heart attack. My husband took me to the hospital and they ruled out a heart attack. I have had about 5 of these episodes. Now the Doctor has Pantoprazolr Dr. Is it going to make a difference?
I have had several of these "attacks" over the years with Omeprazole. The doctor usually just says that it is indigestion. If you are a smoker, I believe the chances of this are higher for some reason.
I had been taking Over the counter omneprazole. can I take my husbands pantoprazole script?
is there any advantage for omeprazole over pantoprazole
My partner takes my pantoprazole and is just fine. She hates taking ANY tablets and is a worrier. There should be no problem but always best to ask your doctor. My only problem is that I get asked why I run out of pantoprazole so often !
The simple answer is yes but only in the short term until you see your own GP. Both drugs are of the same class but are used in differing situations. I have Crohn's disease and so I am on various immunosuppressive drugs and so pantoprazole is given to me because it doesn't stop the various enzymes from going to work that omeprazole would. I am told pantoprazole costs more. I do find that I habe had to double the mg of omeprazole when I take the pantoprazole. I used to take 20mg of omeprazole and take 40-60 of pantoprazole.
You can use it but make sure you are not on meds that are for certain disease and just make sure you see your GP. I often raid the Mrs Omeprazole when I am not on immunosuppressive drugs.
Perhaps. But I'm also taking Plavix (with omeparzole). From what I've read pantoprazole is some what safer. My doctor has just switched me to Lipitor. Which after researching I have stopped taking after 4 days of stomach pain and rapid heart beat. Then I find this other information not only on Lipitor interfering with the Plavix but omeparzole being just as bad. I thought at least my pharmacist would have brought this to his attention as he has in the past regarding a blood pressure medication.
What are your thoughts on this?
Thank you,
Roberta
these tablets have lot of side effects on the heart and bones. Check your vitamin and mineral levels as the acid blocking drugs spoil your absorption of essential nutrition, due to which you may experience chest pain. Check your Vitamin D, Calcium, Sodium, Potassium, Vitamin B12, Iron, Ferritin, Folate levels in your blood.
Thank you. Fortunately I have a Johnny on the spot doctor who checks my blood every three months. If he didn't I'd find one that did. I'm taking it since 2005 when he found an ulcer. The ulcer is healed but I've had sever acid re-flux since I was a kid and ate rol-aids and tums like most kids ate candy. The doctor tried switching me last year to Rx Pepsid..oh my, that did not work at all. In two days I had fire in my belly that I couldn't put out. I put myself back on the omp. and called the doctor and he told me to do the same thing. So it looks like I'll be taking this for the next 30 years. Thanks for your input it's much appreciated-Roberta
I was switched to pantoprazole from omeprazole because of that German study of longterm use in the elderly. I have had loose bowels that I think is a side effect and am thinking of switching back to omeprazole. Is it okay to stop pantoprazole on one day and start omeprazole on the next?
Whats the german study could you share my any link... How is pantaprazole less side effects than ome..? Kindly share if you have any info.
I have been taking Omaprazole for heart burn symptoms for many years. In the last year the Doctor has switched me to Pentoprazole which is cheaper and does the same job, so I was told. It's been working well since and I get no heart burns. However I came across this news from the CBC site that they found out that there is a side effect problem with these drugs and long term use may cause severe problems. Here is the article to see for yourself.

My friend has an acidity problem due to taking Duoluton-L tablets. Please suggest whether there are any effective antacids my friend can take for relief?
Re: Itsame (# 14)
In the last several weeks, my mouth felt like it was full of cotton and I got a rough and cracked lip. I went over what changes I had made recently, and the pantoprazole is the most recent -- about 6 months ago. I checked and apparently those symptoms can be a side effect. I am taking famotidine (Pepcid) before major meals to see if things will return to normal. .
