Breakthrough anxiety and panic from NORTHSTAR generic sertraline. I've been on sertraline for years for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Stop and Shop Pharmacy in Massachusetts switched from CAMBER Pharmaceuticals and other generic companies to NORTHSTAR (made in India) and only Northstar. In two weeks I began having miserable symptoms. Shame on ALL companies that switch to the cheapest thing they can find. I switched to a new pharmacy that provides CAMBER generic sertaline, but it is another week before I can get the refill. In the meantime I have to ride out this misery.

I take lamotrigine for epilepsy. My pharmacy suddenly switched from Taro brand to North Star and I began to experience auras. I asked my pharmacist of a chain store if he could order Taro, but that was out of his power since the chain store buys in bulk. I had my Dr. write a new prescription requesting Taro lamotrigine, but again, they said no. Switched to another store covered by insurance that carried Zydus lamotrigine. Didn't have problems but after reading many comments on the web, Teva and Taro had high ratings. I asked if they could order Taro, same response, the store buys in bulk. Found a store with Teva but it was too expensive and the store was not covered under my insurance program. Found a discount prescription card on the web. RxChat.com has one of their own. Didn't know about RxChat.com at that time. Anyway, I used the other card which made it affordable. Just joined MedsChat prescription card program. On the “Prescription Savings Sent Successfully!” print that page for a larger card. It’s larger than the one sent by e-mail.

My Dr. is old school and thinks all generics are equal to each other and equal to the non-generic med. Little does he know… There have been so many complaints about generics to urge the Food and Drug Administration to evaluate generics. I thought that was great until I found out they are only evaluating it if the drug has the correct amount of the med. They should also be checking how fast a drug is released into the body. All at once or very little over time. With North Star generic lamotrigine, with so many complaints, leads me to believe it hardly dissolves. One person on the web posted that he was finding undissolved North Star lamotrigine in his stools.

By the way, my auras were only occurring at bedtime before going to sleep or the following morning just after I woke up and still in bed. For me, I discovered if I kept my eyes open and was aware of my surrounding, the intensity and length of the aura was lessened compared to keeping my eyes closed. I don’t know if anyone else has had the same experience.

I totally agree about Northstar being like a placebo. I have been taking it since April for an infection. Last week the pharmacy starting using a different manufacturer and I feel so much better already!

Northstar was like taking a placebo. It’s supposed to stop auras and seizures, but it seemed to accelerate them (auras). I was taking Taro with no problems before the Costco pharmacy switched to this imposter of a med. The pharmacy couldn’t or wouldn’t order Taro for me. No insurance coverage at Costco, but still cheap at $25. Went to insurance coverage through CVS and their generic brand, Zydus. No problem until one Dr gave me tramadol for pain after knee surgery and auras set in. I found out on the web Tramadol lowers the seizure threshold. After that, I looked on the web which generics people found most effective. Taro and Teva had high marks. My Dr wrote a prescription requesting Taro. CVS said no. Found out Walgreens carries Teva and cost $762 for a 3 month supply! On the web, I found printable coupons. Price went down to $29.55! Coupon prices are good for 1 year. No problems since taking Teva.

Yes, I have had to change pharmacies because they switched to N. Star. My current pharmacy buys from Zydus and I haven't had a problems with side effects.

I have taken Losartan-Hctz manufactured by Sandoz for years with no adverse reactions. This past refill at Giant foods the pharmacy substituted one produced by Northstar. After a few days I began to note my feet were swollen (not a problem I have ever had before). I then noted an itching all over my body and restless sleeping. Contacting my regular pharmacist it was comfirmed the change and stated the were not allow to request a specific maufacturer. I shopped around (it was a holiday weekendand most were closed) to find one that could request Sandoz. I hope I don't experience that again but what happens if they all decide to eliminate requesting a specific manufacturer.

Publix Pharmacy has now contracted with Northstar for their generic brand.
Northstar was the lowest bidder, with an agreement that they cannot offer another generic...Is this not a Monopoly???
Shame on you Publix Pharmacy!!!!

ALMOST DIED FROM NORTHSTAR GENERIC! Yesterday, I picked up my prescription for 250 mg of Ciprofloxacin HCL. I've always taken Cipro before without ANY reactions whatsoever. I found an older bottle and noticed I had taken the generic Cipro from Pack Pharmaceuticals (the one I never had any problems with). Last night, I took just ONE of these pills and thought I was going to die. My head started to hurt within 15 minutes. Then, my heart began racing (resting heart rate was 118 bpm), and then I had serious trouble breathing. When I called the Pharmacy, they didn't pick up the phone. I called the store who said they would transfer me to the Pharmacy. Still no answer. I ended up calling Poison Control, texting my doctor to request this Pharmacy REFILL my prescription with PACK PHARMA and NOT NORTHSTAR! Never again! Pharmacists will lie to you and tell you ALL GENERICS ARE THE SAME. They are definitely not! I almost died. I had to force myself to throw up and drank tons of water and breathed into a paper bag. Never again, NORTHSTAR! You are the WORST. I will make sure to tell EVERYONE I know to NEVER take ANY generic drugs from this company!

I took Northstar Ambien for three days.
Within a half hour I had swelling and itching if my eyes. Thought I was getting pink eye or allergy to Shellfish, which I had earlier in the day. I had three previous nights of terrible sleep. I am relieved I found this post. The Publix Pharmacy will only carry Northstar as of May this year. No choices on the generic brand. I found Walgreens carries Teva, which does work for me. Too bad Publix is now being ruled by the Pharmacutical Companies, rather then customer needs. When I asked if other's had any problem with this brand, of course I was told absolutely not!! Shame on you for not being honest!!!

Has anyone had any experiences (bad or good) with Northstar RX's birth control pill Setlakin?

Northstar generic Ambien doesn't work. Both me and my girlfriend got RX from Publix Pharmacy branded Northstar. 10 mg didn't make us drowsy like other generic brands. Ask your doctor and pharmacy to not use this brand because it's not effective.

Fyi: Re. the amitrptyline: It turns out (third call in to Sandoz) that Northstar buys their amitriptyline from Sandoz; hence the same exact pill. I tried them and they were as effective for me.

Northstar's lamotrigine was entirely ineffective and quite terrible for me. I've been taking lamotrigine for bipolar disorder for roughly seven years. I initially took the name brand lamictal but switched to TEVA after a couple of months (insurance). TEVA's lamotrigine has been amazing for me. It actually stablizes my moods and helps me feel stable, happy, and normal. I normally fill my prescriptions at Walgreen's but I switched to Target's pharmacy earlier this week. Well, Target only carries Northstar. I started the Northstar pills unaware that there could be an actual difference between generics. Unfortunately, there was a HUGE difference. It felt like I wasn't taking anything. I feel depressed, cranky, abnormally lethargic, and hopeless. This was horrible. I work hard to stay balanced and Northstar threw me off. Luckily, I realized that my depression was connected to the switch in generics. I called Walgreen's and explained the situation. They refilled my prescription with TEVA and now I'm back to normal.

Northstar is pretty scary imo. It's horrible to do what we're supposed to do (take meds) and have our efforts undermined by an ineffective manufacturer. There should be infinitely more accountability for these generic manufactures. I hope everyone reports their issues to the FDA and maybe they'll do something.

I got a refill (that fortunately my pharmacist is replacing because I had stated I wanted Sandoz). I am disturbed by the fact that this pill is the same color with the same numbers on it as Sandoz. Does anyone know if the laws have loosened up that permit two companies to use the same color and inscription? Thank you.

I am so glad I found this page. I thought I was going crazy or something. Northstar is like taking a placebo. I get no relief from my pain with this brand. Oh my, I'm not insane!! Now I have a 3 month supply of an RX I just picked up, how do I exchange it for another manufactuer?

I just got switched to a Northstar generic, on one I have been taking for years. I have had various generic company's in the past for this RX but this is the first time with Northstar.
At first it was It was like taking nothing, I just figured perhaps I was in more pain that usual so the effect wasn't as good. But it continued to happen, and then my hands, feet, ankles and intestines started to swell. (mind you, I never even had swollen ankles with any of my five pregnancies) I then started to get really, really sick, nauseous a little, but itching in my legs and arms. I thought I would lose my mind. It took me a few days before I was able to narrow it down to the Northstar generic. It was so bad I wish it would have just finished me off. I took mega benedryl yesterday and it started to recind, so just for assurance, i took a half a tablet today and sure enough, here comes the sick, the itching, everything. Again, the benedryl and the holding on for my crappy life. My life sucks bad enough I don't need any help from an outside source.

Lots of side effects going on with Northstar. Feel like I'm not taking any meds at all for bipolar ii. Joint cramps, depression, agitated, mild anxiety, bad dreams, headaches, and paranoia. Haven't switched back to previous generic, but will very soon -feel like crap for no reason.

I have been taking the Taro Lamictal for just over a year now for my epilepsy, I was switched to this from Keppra because of Keppra's terrible side-effects. I had a refill that had both the Taro and Northstar in it, I didn't really think anything of it, I started taking the Northstar and within that same week of taking it I has another seizure. My doctor has now put on my script that I can only have Taro, unfortunately my pharmacy isn't carrying the Taro anymore. I don't know what Im going to do, Im having a really hard time finding it. But Im glad I'm not the only one that has had problems with Northstar. My neurologist explained to me that in order for it to be approved by the FDA as a generic that only like 20% of people need to have it work for them..The Northstar made me feel terrible. Im worried if I can't find the Taro what I'm going to do.

I have had the same issue!!! I have been taking the Taro brand for depression for 2 years and have not had any issues (with exception to increasing or decreasing dosage symptoms). My pharmacy switched to North Star and after 3 weeks, I have had terrible anxiety, insomnia, irritability, felt teary for no reason, lack of energy, reduced libido, headaches, joint aching, etc. So I called my pharmacy and asked them to order Taro. They said they would try. I can't wait to get Taro again so that I can feel normal :(
